Talk about nostalgia!!! Been here every. Since I was a kid. It was such a treat to have a birthday cake from them. Just came by recently to pick up a sheet cake of their reknown strawberry shortcake 🍰 for a work retirement. Every one loves it, there was no more to take home!!! You have to pay homage to Phoenix bakery whenwver you go to Chinatown
Nothing beats a charming bakery with a line out the door! I placed a large order for a Lunar New Year celebration, and Lorna made the entire experience seamless from start to finish. She was incredibly kind, offered thoughtful recommendations on what to order, and delivered exceptional quality and flavor in every baked good. Truly a 10/10 experience. Thank you, Lorna and to your wonderful staff for making my first visit so stellar, and tasty! I’ll definitely be back and can't recommend this bakery enough to anyone searching for delicious baked goods in the DTLA area. Happy, auspicious New Year, Phoenix Bakery!
Today's desserts from the bakery that was the place for our childhood bday cakes. I see it had been a while since I visited because today I stocked up on slices I had never tried and saw all the cookies & pastries they sell. They still have the yummy almond cookies & sugar butterflies (if you like buñuelos endulcados, you will like these). Thankfully others have posted pictures of the cakes because I sure forgot too. All my selections were delicious & almost ate them all, but sharing with mom. My fav is the mystic Hawaiian one that was selling out fast and had coconut on the outside with 3 different fruit jams & the cream horn, the cream is delicious. I saw pictures here of 3 leches & tiramisu slices too, will have to look for them and try their version one day.
Phoenix has the best cakes and pastries. Haven’t been here in years and nothing has really changed. They are the original Asian style strawberry cakes!
Wonderful Chinese Bakery that I always stop by while in L.A. Lots of sweet n delicious pastries to choose from but, I come in for only one thing they're delicious almond cookies. I pickup and take back to Houston at least 3 dozen. Airport security always looks at me like I have issues. But, when I bring them back I always share them with Friends and Family. If you have a sweet tooth be sure to stop by to desfrutar they're Bakery.🍪🍰🍪
Every time we visit L.A I HAVE to go get my slice of heaven. Honestly it doesn't matter what you get EVERYTHING tastes AMAZING! Growing up my mom would always get me my strawberry cake! 🍰 If you haven't been you need to go. You won't be disappointed.
We had such a lovely evening dining here. The staff was welcoming and seated us right away, making us feel like valued guests. The food was excellent, with portions that were generous and flavors that really stood out. The atmosphere was lively but still comfortable, creating the perfect balance for a night out. Every dish was presented beautifully and tasted even better than it looked. This is definitely a restaurant I will return to again and again.
This bakery has been a staple in my life since infancy and I'm so happy they're still around. Known for their cakes crusted in thin-sliced almonds, the cakes aren't overly sweet but instead light and airy. I still order from them for birthdays and they've maintained the same service and quality for decades. I highly recommend stopping by for a slice (or a whole cake!) of their fresh strawberry and creme. Their cookies and other small desserts and amazing too, you just can't go wrong. Wonderful, friendly staff too!
Just recently I gave a shot to this cozy bake shop and was instantly charmed by its warm, inviting ambiance that blends modern sleekness with subtle hints of traditional Chinese dcor. The subtle aroma of freshly baked mooncakes and sesame pastries filled the air, making the space feel both lively and soothinga perfect backdrop for a quick coffee break! The atmosphere was thoughtfully designed, offering a calm retreat that felt like a brief pause from the market hustle
The strawberry cake was so delicious!!! Also, they gave my daughter a set of macaroons for FREE! The lady was very sweet. I have 2 daughters and I bought one 3 piece set of the macaroons, she then handed one to my other daughter so that they each had one. Overall all the place was welcoming... all their employees seemed sweet. The cake was delicious...all of my family loved the taste. Will definitely come back
Very cool store! Saw Phoenix Bakery the news and came by, 100% worth the trip! 🎂 the cakes were tasty yet not too sweet! Saying that, I give it my highest compliment. They put thoughts into the texture for sure, it looked plain but 10/10 on the exquisite texture and after taste. 🧑🍳 The staff packed the slices so nicely! 🚙 there is a small area where you can park 👍🏽 love it
This place is great! The cakes are always very fresh, fluffy, light, and delicious, with perfect whipped cream, the almond cookies are the best I've ever had, and the mochi and macarons are worth trying :) staff is always very nice and quick. This is a place you have to try when in China Town.
Strawberry whipped cream cake with almonds / 5 🌟! Tiramisu cake - 5 🌟! Phoenix Bakery is an LA iconic bakery. They have been in business since 1938! And I just tried them for the first time even though I've been LA for 23 years. I have no excuse. I'm a dummy. These guys are awesome!! They are known for the strawberry whipped cream cake, so I had to sample that one. It was amazing. I love sweets and I love cakes that have good icing and fillings. This cake has both. You can tell right away why they've been popular in LA for a long time. With cakes this good, there is no need to change things up. As much as I enjoyed the strawberry cake slice, I think I liked the Tiramisu slice even more. It had a lot of filling and icing, and when you add in the sweet condensed milk that makes tiramisu its thing, it gets even better. The bakery is on the outskirts of Chinatown. Parking is tricky, but patience pays off. If you are looking for a bakery that has served generations of LA sweet fans, give them a try.
Great selection of sweet treats and a wonderful staff. They made sure headcount was reasonable and had a well thought out system for making sure the line moved quickly. Can’t wait to come back in September for their delightful moon cakes. Highly recommend the sesame balls and their infamous almond cookies.
Probably known and rated as the first widely popular Chinese bakery in Los Angeles' Chinatown. This old-school favorite is just one of the best places to get that simple Asian sponge cake creation. Either out of the case or a special order, they will accommodate with a well-loved cake, light and airy with simple whipped cream. Personally, far better than any supermarket cake available. Pick your favorite fruit toppings, and you'll please your party, and you'll appreciate the value. Other Chinese favorite bakery items are available too. From Almond cookies to pastries, everything is good. Parking can be difficult as street metered parking is Chinatown crazy. There are a couple of parking spots in front of the bakery if luck is on your side. There is an alley adjacent to the bakery if you know what you are doing or are bold enough. Run by a second generation of folks and bakers who have been doing a great job for decades, it is never disappointing here. I hope the goodness remains here for more generations to come to enjoy. I know I have.
A wonderful and fun bakery in the heart of Chinatown. Love the design and vibes, but also the cookies and cake! Nothing super special other than a fun bakery in this area. Good prices and all. I think i wouldn't place it at any top favorite bakery of mine here in LA, but one i won't say no to either.
Been coming here since I was a kid. December 2025, last time. Zero cakes for purchase. Wait times was " at least 2 hours if want one made" They were angry that other customers and myself were wanting to spend $ at their bakery. Its as if were an inconvenience for them. Not only the owner but her employees rolled their eyes at everyone. Wow! There are other bakeries people, time to find another all time favorite. Good luck to this establishment moving forward, we refuse to be back.
