Opinions de Violet Bistro Los Angeles
My son treated me to a birthday dinner at a restaurant of my choice. I didn’t hesitate to choose Violet. This is definitely my favorite French restaurant at the moment. I don’t think you can beat the atmosphere and decor. The staff was friendly and the food superb. I highly recommend the steak au poivre, the duck, and sitting on the patio with all of the twinkling lights.
This was my 4th time there so I thought I'd better write a review. Every single time the food, the service and the atmosphere were a 10! So much attention to detail, incredible ingredients cooked to perfection, kindest staff... Loved my burger, tried my sister's steak au poivre (cooked to perfection! She lives in Paris and said it was better than what she usually gets there!)...and even the often boring green beans had some flavorful herbs that made them so delicious, we were fighting over the last few pods. I liked the people I was surrounded by: engaging, animated. And the atmosphere is so intimate, celebratory and chic. Going back on Friday to celebrate a girlfriend's birthday! Big Thank You to owner Dana for dreaming this gem and brining it to life!
What a lovely place to escape from the mayhem and foolishness! Small menu, but to be expected (it should expand as things improve). What they offer is full of flavor. The chef brings over fresh catch from Santa Barbara. The staff is attentive and engaging. (Julia is fabulous) The restaurant opened JUST before COVID and have worked really hard to provide an environment that spirits one away. They have outdoor, indoor and Atrium seating to accommodate all. Really lovely.
They had a great little courtyard area that’s covered and heated really intimate spot with great food. We would definitely go back.
The steak was absolutely amazing! I’ll definitely be back the next time I’m visiting from Kentucky
Holding our breath in wonderment as we sat in the charming patio feeling that we were in Juan-Les-Pins with Scott and Zelda. The food/wine was magnificent and the staff so lovely and a attentive… And as the sun set to the west the stars danced our our plates! I will be back for sure!!
Love this place!! This is a fantastic new restaurant in Westwood village, which never happens. I highly recommend this place. The ambiance and decor is lovely, you feel instantly transported to Europe. And the food, I have nothing bad to say. Everything we ordered was more delicious than the next. We had the baguette with butter, heirloom tomato salad, summer ratatouille, mac and cheese, plant burger, halibut, flat iron steak frites. Mexican chocolate cake and the Pavlova. It was all perfectly seasoned, balanced and fresh. Plus, everyone from the hostesses to the GM is great. Don't hesitate....go now!
Violet is an absolute gem! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by the warm and friendly staff who made us feel right at home. The atmosphere is cozy yet stylish, with just the right amount of charm and ambiance for a memorable dining experience. The food was incredible—every dish beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. You can tell they use the freshest ingredients, and the menu has something for everyone. Dana, the owner, is very sweet and kind, making sure we has an amazing experience. Whether you’re a foodie or just looking for a great date spot, Violet is a must-visit. We can’t wait to come back!
Had my birthday lunch there and was completely amazed by how great everything is! What a secret gem! The menu is a mix of traditional foods with an edge...the flavors are so fresh and unexpected! The drinks are really fun, especially the cocktail that is a purple color-a MUST HAVE! The waiter was so attentive and really recommended key dishes that we shared because the portions are quiet large! And love the romantic and intimate, cozy courtyard....felt like France! Def going back 100% and would recommend to anyone! Great date place or fun girls lunch!
Atmosphere was amazing. Almost felt like you were in a movie. The place so much charm and style. Food was excellent. We started with several salads which were some of the best I have ever tasted. We all ordered the Salmon and they were cooked to perfection. All 5 of us had nothing but 5 star reviews after our meal from the ambiance to service to presentation to quality and quantity. Violet Bistro will be seeing us again and again.
Beautiful ambiance, amazing food, and Simon was top notch service. Great experience.
Violet is without a doubt the best restaurant in Westwood Village. The atmosphere in the patio is one of a kind. The food and wine selection are fabulous. As soon as you enter the extremely friendly staff makes Violet a delightful experience.
I went here before the holidays with two friends. I had not heard of it before (neither had my friends, and we are all local). I was shocked in the best way. The best service, I have experienced in a long time. Perfect service. Excellent food, with perfect portions. Best baguette in LA! The owner was very hands-on, and the atmosphere was so comfortable and pretty. I am going again this week and recommending it to all my friends.
Can confidently say Violet is one of my very favorite French restaurants in LA. It’s located in beautiful Westwood Village and the atmosphere is truly special, it’s the sort of place that you will want to stay awhile. It’s designed really well on the inside with a beautiful bar, an outdoor atrium in the middle of the restaurant, and lots of great design touches including white brick walls, and chandeliers. Our server was extremely polite and was very prompt. They don’t have a dedicated parking lot, but street parking is easy to find in this area, we were able to find a space directly across the street for a 7PM Saturday dinner. They have a lot of great options on the menu. It’s a traditional Bistro so they have many of the classics. For our dinner we chose French Onion Soup, The Bistro Steak Au Poivre, and the Quiche. The French Onion Soup was exactly how I like it, rich in flavor and almost sweet at the same time. They use the traditional mushroom stock instead of the deeper wine stock so it really adds a meaty and layered taste profile to the soup. The Bistro Steak was incredible and probably our fav dish of the night. It was cooked perfectly, and the au poivre sauce was so good that it was almost drinkable. The Quiche was also one of the very best that we have ever had, and we have had many. All the flavors were balanced really well and the outside was pleasantly crunchy. Overall a terrific French bistro in a great part of LA. I would recommend to anyone for any occasion and certainly plan to be back in the near future to try more dishes.
EVERYTHING AND MORE! The food here is impeccable. Salmon was cooked to perfection laid on a base of lentils, carrots, and onions. Flakey and buttery through the whole fillet. Truffle fries were divine. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Truffle sauce was rich and zesty! Cheesecake was creamy, with a sour twist from the blood oranges. Definitely on the pricier side, but worth every penny! The chef takes bold leaps on traditional favorites. Gorgeous interior. I felt transported to a the French countryside. Music selection is classical/jazz and is top notch. I felt all the stress from the day pour out of me enjoying this true culinary experience. Violet bistro is officially added to my rotation, it’ll be added to yours after your first visit too.
WOW. this place is great. One of the best meals I’ve had in recent memory. The scallops and the duck were both seriously incredible. We were less blown away by the steak but also good. Great cocktails, great wine list, beautiful patio, and great energy all around. Minus one point on service because the woman who took our order was a bit rude/impatient. But the other server who we had for the majority of the night was great. Can’t wait to go back Eat here if you can!
To say that this is the BEST French restaurant I’ve been to, will not be enough! My wife and I used to work at Les Halles in NYC years ago, after it shut down it has been hard to find a place to match its unique flavors until Violet! The onion soup it’s AMAZING! My wife had their Bistro steak, and I had their burger, we also shared truffle frites and they were delightful! Our server was super sweet and knowledgeable of everything. I would give this place a million stars if I could. And to top it off, you guys were great accommodating us to the needs of our son's service dog. We live in San Diego and go to LA often, so trust me we will be back OFTEN! 🩵🩵🩵
A beautiful French oasis in Westwood. The ambiance, food, and staff take you away to a café in France. The trout was buttery, with a kick of citrus & toasted almonds - very craveable. The duck was perfectly cooked with a delightful savory sweetness from the whole cherries & forbidden rice. We were too full for desert- but we will be back soon with friends! An ideal place for an intimate meal with people you love.
I love this place. Such a cute ambience and great service. A little piece of tranquility in Westwood. After a scrumptious lunch, the latte was delightful. I am not from this area so I made the mistake of parking in a building across the street. Pricey. Take your time and you can find parking that is cheaper.
We went to celebrate and ended up enjoying one of the most amazing nights of our lives. The food, the atmosphere and the service. What a treat. We had the most amazing table, in front of the kitchen, admiring all the action. We didn’t want to leave, but we are definitely coming back!
The duck was very flavorful and delicious, so does the port, ice cream was pretty rich flavor of vanilla bean, anyways, a perfect light meal. Service was also excellent. Will definitely be back.
This is an excellent place; phenomenal food, exceptional atmosphere and good service. Their food is great. We tried their fromage, warm baguette, salade mizou, champignons and French onion soup. All were exceptionally great. However, almost everything had little extra nuts. For main course, we had their steak au poivre - good steak but little salty. However, you’d expect more flavors and less salt. Make sure you try their Brussels sprouts and truffle fries. What makes this place a great place for a date night is the quiet atmosphere where you can definitely enjoy a conversation! Make sure you order dessert!
Wow! Truffle Fries were incredible and nobody could stop eating them throughout the meal. Classic but unfussy French with just the right touch of new flavors. Micro flower on my oysters. Yes please! Great hidden and open atmosphere with a fancy vibe. Like being transported somewhere along the Mediterranean. Will be back!
Violet LA is a rare find in LA — a cozy, chic French bistro that strikes the perfect balance between elegance and laid-back charm. The ambience is warm and welcoming, effortlessly stylish without a hint of pretension. The staff were exceptionally attentive — polite, easygoing, and genuinely thoughtful throughout the evening. I ordered the dirty martini, French onion soup, steak au poivre with truffle fries, and the loup de mer. While the martini and onion soup were solid but not standout, the rest of the meal was absolutely phenomenal. The steak was cooked to perfection with a spot-on peppercorn sauce, and the truffle fries were addictive. The fish was beautifully done and paired wonderfully with the forbidden rice. I briefly met a lovely woman who I later learned was the owner — I wish I had a chance to thank her personally for creating such an inviting and well-executed space. I’ll definitely be returning and would recommend Violet LA without hesitation. A true neighborhood

Beautiful outdoor dining experience in a courtyard had us feeling like we were in the south of France. Wonderful food and service. In addition to the items pictured, the duck confit special was also very delicious and I liked the little salad paired with it. The pommes frites were insane, some of the best I’ve had in the city.
Amazing restaurant: onion soup is a must have—you should definitely try it. Book outdoor table as the vibe and view is amazing. Reddish salad was fine (they could do better). Wine was fantastic. Bread was not fresh: I like my bread and butter warm and delish.
We are fortunate enough to eat at Violet regularly and always love it. Yes, it is a bit pricey, but the food and the ingredients all taste so fresh in a way that is truly differentiated. The Salad Mizzou is unbelievable - it is probably the freshest salad in LA and I don't understand how they make it taste so perfect. The Smashburger is equally incredible as are the chicken and the Chicken. Great for a small group, a date, or a business meal!
Best French restaurant I’ve been to in a long time! Everything is wonderful - food, service, atmosphere. Setup shows the great taste of owner Dana and her team. Even plates and napkins are amazingly beautiful! They also run a cooking school upstairs and over zoom - would love to attend. Finally, tips are calculated based on pretax amount, and there is no additional charges of any kind.
Absolutely loved this wonderful little bistro. Everything we had was delicious. We especially loved the truffle frites! All the vegetables from the dishes were fresh and excellent. The chef and crew did a wonderful job. Our server was excellent as well.

A lovely little charming restaurant, with great ambiance and very good food. We had a very memorable time! Look forward to returning.

I caught myself wanting to ask every employee’s name just to brag about how great they made our valentines night. Tayte was our server, anticipating all our needs like bringing an extra spoon for our soup almost intuitively knowing we would want to share! Food was excellent and truly worthy of a restaurant that teaches the skill itself. The atmosphere was inviting and created a cozy yet chic chance to celebrate our love day. On our way out Holly which I believe was the GM took the time to take some photos of us that will be printed and in my 2026 album forever! Thank you for making this once in a year day so memorable.
Great restaurant with a lovely atmosphere. We ordered duck, a steak, cocktails, and a Caesar salad — everything was delicious. The only downside was that the steak was a bit tough, but it didn’t affect the overall experience. The waiter was very polite and attentive. Excellent service, and the food was served very quickly. We would definitely come back.
I’ve heard about this place for quite a while now but this was the first time I made it in. I went with a business partner for a simple lunch and it was anything but. The atmosphere was amazing, the service was great and the food was just as good. My partner had a perfectly prepared omelette (which is hard to find these days), I had the soup and the rotisserie breast of chicken. I look forward to my returning and trying out the rest of the menu. If you are looking for a great little bistro this is the place.
The two of us ate here for dinner in late September. Reservations are a good idea. We sat in the inner courtyard, where it was quieter. Bring something to wear for the chill. There are ceiling heaters, but it was a bit chilly. The bar looked very popular, but was a bit noisy for us. People were eating at the bar. The food was superb. I mean truly delicious. I had the pepper steak. Best I've ever eaten. The cauliflower was also a big hit. It's whole head, so share or consider it your main course. Our server was either a trainee, or poorly supervised. There's valet parking.
Cozy hidden-gem French bistro. Even though I’ve lived in the neighborhood for years, I somehow never noticed it until a month ago when I happened to walk by and it caught my eye. We went the next day without a reservation and the place was already full, so we sat at the bar. The staff was very friendly and the vibe was great. Drinks were solid, the salad portion was generous, and the steak was delicious. We liked it so much that we made reservations and went back the following week. This time I ordered the burger also delicious, though it could have used a little more salt. Overall, I really love this place. It feels very local, cozy, and authentic.

Violet Bistro on a Friday night, why not? The interior decor grabbed our attention and made us want to dine at this cute, chic restaurant near UCLA. I loved the neon sign outside with herringbone tile leading you inside their chic indoor dining area that is darky, moody, and romantic. We dined in the outdoor courtyard area that had a lot of charm. We ordered the following: - Oysters - my favorite 🤩 of the night. - Fromage : okay 👍 - Champignons a L’Antoine : loved this play in escargot. Mushrooms were juicy and quite flavorful. - Le Double Smashburger : Perfectly cooked and seasoned burger with great cheese pull. Pomme frites were ordered to accompany and were satisfying. - Dirty Martini : highly recommend using the Botanist gin 🍸 Overall a great double date night with good vibes, good food, and great location.
The front of the house staff is incredible, warm, friendly, and very accommodating. For instance, we needed help moving our reservation time and they were able to make it happen. The ambience of the restaurant is so beautiful lighting tables light music. Everything was working very well until we sat down. The waiter we had was a tall gentleman with a European accent while he was friendly, he was not very accommodating, for instance: we had to ask for our water to be refilled. also, he never asked about whether our food or drink was satisfactory, only “are you having a good time?“ Strange. It was almost as if he forgot to put our ticket into the kitchen, it took quite a while for a food to come at one point he came over and he probably thought I was going to ask about the timing, but I was asking for more water instead. We noticed that there was some “lively conversation” in the kitchen. The head chef seemed to point over to our table several times. My theory is that our waiter forgot to put in our ticket and now the kitchen had to make our meals on the fly. It was our anniversary dinner, and while the front of the house staff was very congratulatory, our waiter made no attempt to congratulate us on our anniversary or bring us anything special, even though all the tables around us were also celebrating birthdays, anniversary, etc., receiving desserts with candles. We received nothing of the sort. We felt very forgotten and excluded. it seemed as though he was very commentating to the regulars/people who ordered lots of drinks or and or bottles of wine. as soon as we did not order any alcohol, he seemed to lose interest immediately, which is unfortunate because as people who are transitioning from alcohol, we don’t appreciate the pressure to drink. anyway, the food was amazing. Can’t be more happy about the quality and taste as a food. I got the steak, maitake mushroom and truffle fries all of which were five out of five stars. My wife got the roasted cauliflower, which is also incredibly tasty. So while I highly recommend this restaurant, if you end up going, hopefully you won’t get the same waiter as us.

Ate lunch here in two different occasions just one day apart. The place is beautiful. Both indoors and outdoors, but the outdoor courtyard is really cute and makes for a great relaxing setting. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Especially the ladies at the door. Server staff is also mostly great. Food was fine. I think I might have ordered the wrong items. The burger was fine. Fries too. Good even, but nothing to write home about. The ceasar salad was a disappointment, mainly because of the chicken. I saw it the day before and ordered it, but for some reason it looked quite different than the one I saw, as well as others I saw served around me. The chicken was quite dry. Everything else tasted good but a ceasar salad only has so much to bring to the table; so every ingredient has to count. I told the server who just said “oh ok, I’ll let the chef know”. He never got back to me. There was so “sorry” there. That was the entire handling of the situation. Just a bit unexpected since I expected more from them after my first visit. Anyway - it’s a great place, but would be amazing with the last couple of touches on service/food.
Classic French bistro fare. Their patio is the better seating space. We had duck and steak entrees, which were good sized portions. Skip the mushrooms, too much garlic and I could not taste the ‘shrooms. The Brussel sprouts were good. The caesar salad was fresh.

We love French cuisine and had high hopes, but left disappointed. The courtyard was lovely and the service attentive, but the food fell flat. Champignons à l’Antoine tasted processed and smothered in breadcrumbs, the loup de mer was overcooked and drowned in a ketchup-like sauce, and the menu was both limited and overpriced for the quality of cooking. Long waits between courses only added to the frustration. Beautiful setting, but not a place we’d return to.
Made reservations before the play at Geffen theater, and did not get a chance to check their menu, what a mistake. The restaurant is very cute inside, had a nice ambiance, but the food has nothing to write home about. First, the menu is so small, literally 6 apps, 3 salads and 5 mains. Second, the majority of the dishes are not french at all, and for all mains you need to order sides separately. Everything is portioned, so if you want substitution or something extra or added, forget it. To add raw onions to expensive smash overcooked burger was impossible, as the chef used the onions for cooking other dishes and there is no leftovers for special requests. Rediculous!!! I enjoyed my overpriced onion soup, but the rest of the dishes were either overcooked, bland, or just meh. The dishes were asked to be ordered at the same time but served separately for our party of 6. Surprisingly, the restaurant was busy, but may be because of lack of anything decent in the area. Not worth it for me,and I would not recommend nor come back.
I ordered a Ceasar salad and my mom the omelette Absolutely tasteless both . We had to add salt and dressing and the chicken was sooooo dry . On top of it we paid $80 for 2 terrible dishes . Don’t be fooled by the ambiance .
