We partnered with Christy and the team at Wife and the Somm for our 10th wedding anniversary dinner and party, and they truly helped create one of the best nights of our lives. From the very beginning, they felt like a real planning partner — thoughtful, responsive, calm under pressure, and genuinely invested in making the night joyful and easy for both us and our 40+ guests. They guided us through decisions in a way that felt fun (not stressful), and they handled the logistics with the kind of confidence that lets you actually relax and enjoy your own celebration. A major highlight was the tasting ahead of time. We did a full tasting of the food, desserts, and beverage pairings, and it was an experience in itself — delicious, well-paced, and thoughtfully curated. It made us feel completely confident going into the event. And the desserts deserve their own callout: they were standout across the board, and knowing that Christy bakes them herself made it even more special. Multiple guests brought them up afterward without us prompting — always a great sign. The night-of execution was seamless: the flow, the service, the energy — everything just worked. Our guests felt taken care of, and we felt present for every moment. I’m including photos because the setup was beautiful, but what really made the night was the care, attention, and partnership from Christy and her team. If you’re considering Wife and the Somm for a milestone celebration, we can’t recommend them highly enough. We’re so grateful.
With guests from abroad, we took back to the Wife and the Som and had a delicious dinner. It was torrentially raining outside, and parts of the corner benches had to evacuate towards the center. But under the loud noise of the rain hammering the roof over the former porch, it felt like an adventure in a tent. Staff impeccable in helping our guests to circumvent a garlic allergy, and the food as always A+. Just really missing the espresso at the end. PREVIOUS REVIEW2: It really is such a wonderful gem in my neighborhood. Not because it is close but because it offers a delightful dining experience. Loved everything from Meat and cheese (with Tomino del Boscaiolo, Caciotta truffle, prosciutto Toscana), the Caciotta Truffle, Ahi Tuna Tartare, Roasted Mary’s Duck breast, Grilled Cuttlefish, and Delicata squash. Lastly, the ambiance is modern and cool but cozy at the same time. And not to forget, the staff provided knowledgeable guidance about the wife’s fortes even if we disappointed the somm. PREVIOUS REVIEW1: A jewel, where one would not expect one, kind of at the edge of a residential area in the Glassell/Mount Washington/Eagle Rock area. But boy, it definitely was a superb choice that had long been on my list. The elegant ambience and design contrast a little bit with the surrounding neighborhood. Even if one focused more on the wife rather than the sommelier, the visit was perfect. The staff was super friendly, so friendly and eager to please that they showed up independently and slightly discoordinatedly to redundantly ask our wishes. But really, the food was outstanding. We took a selection of roughly 4-5 items (bread and butter, Burrata Salad, Hamachi Crudo, Ahi Tartar, and Tomato salad), and for this time skipped on the dessert, even though it looked delicious from what we could see on neighboring tables. Everything was a beautiful combination of colors and flavors, totally fresh and wonderfully arranged. The part that we miss a little bit - coming back from Europe with the never-ending evenings in restaurants - are the longer kitchen hours. Here specifically, it closed at 9 PM with the restaurant closing two new guests at 10 PM. In Europe, in contrast, we entered the restaurants at those times and just got started … (Originally posted by me on Yelp)
We got the DineLA three course meal. Great service, the roast mushrooms were a dream of textures and flavor. Might go back on that alone. Parking can be difficult to find in the local neighborhood, however. Plan to come in a little earlier then expected.
Charming neighborhood spot. There is genuine care service wise from the moment you step in, greeted often by owner and sommelier. The menu is well thought out, something for everyone and curated to pair with an equally well thought out wine list. You can tell the staff is happy to be there and the ambience is quaint, comfortable. Perfect date night or brunch spot. The coq au vin was utterly divine.
Absolutely love this place. Everything we had was delicious and proportioned well enough for sharing. Service and staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. We were greeted by 5 different staff members in passing and they all wished we us a good night, which was appreciated. I highly recommend every dish my boyfriend and I ordered, but if I had to choose, the mussels are my favorite. The sauce is just so flavorful! We were too full to eat dessert there but got the Basque Cheesecake and Chocolate Cake to go. Just the perfect ending to a perfect meal!
We were lucky to have our last DineLA experience at Wife and the Somm. We sat in the lovely patio with our dog, but next time, we want to sit at the bar inside, because it was happening! The service was exceptional: three different people answered questions and made great suggestions about wine and food.
Wonderful DineLA menu with a great wine pairing. A variety of textures, flavors, and a little experimental with food with good approachable wines. Can’t wait to go back!
Very cozy diner with great atmosphere. Love the food with seasonal ingredients and creative flair, all very delicious. Great for friends gathering and a big menu for a lot of choices with different price point. Will love to come back if i was in town again!
Lovely “neighborhood” joint with really thoughtfully prepared dishes and an incredible wine list. My friend and I ordered 2 appetizers, 1 entree and 3 side dishes and were sooooo stuffed! Definitely get the mushrooms and the duck as they were the star of the meal; they were both to die for!! The decor/ambiance were also top notch.
DineLA brought me into Wife and Somm and their food, service and wine offerings will bring me back. My friend is gf and it was not an issue at all. They didn’t miss out. I recommended to a friend after my experience and I was thanked profusely. So good!
Fun spot for a delicious dinner with great wines. Service was friendly and super timely. Love the space, comfortable and airy. Cooking is excellent and will return soon for another dinner. Best dish may be the shrimp plate.
Wow! The food here was fantastic. I brought my friend to celebrate her birthday. It’s a casual restaurant with an elevated atmosphere. We arrived an hour early before our reservation and the staff kindly let us partake early. We ordered the yellowtail collarbone and the sausage pappardelle. The hamachi was not dry at all, and a very large portion. Cooked perfectly. The pappardelle was also deliciously made and full of flavor. My friend likes that pappardelle is generally made with fresh pasta, which was the case here. She’s also a pretty good cook, and gave her seal of approval. A bit of an upscale place, perhaps I’ll have to bring a date? The only downside is there isn’t a parking lot, so you’ll have to find parking on the street. We parked in a neighborhood nearby. They also apologized for not having music, but I think it’s better that they didn’t, otherwise would have to struggle to hear anything
This place is that good, I wished I lived here, just so I could come back again and again 🤤 Bone marrow toast ✅🤌🔥 Burrata and beet salad ✅ Mushrooms ✅ Asian style shroomies with a tangy sauce 👏 So much more, including dessert, everything was just perfect. And honestly quite affordable for what it was. For a table of 4, a bottle of wine, a minimum of 6 shareable dishes and 2 desserts, still came in at around 300 bucks including tip.
This is our go to neighborhood restaurant to bring friends and date night. Recently came here for DineLA and early valentine dinner date with wife. Nice to have this restaurant in the neighborhood.
Wow! Hands down one of the best meals we’ve had as a family in a while. We went on Sat without a reservation but arrived early around 6:15 and they had a table. We ordered the octopus, sausage pappardelle, cauliflower, steamed mussels and cacio pepe. Everything was amazing but the steamed mussels and octopus were the clear stand outs. We also had a little room for dessert and ordered the pot de crème and basque cake which are not to be missed either. They also have a Tokaji desert wine which you need to have with the basque.
Absolutely delicious and a really great space. Chris (the somm) is fun to talk to about wine with and generous with the samples! The octopus was phenomenal, and sausages had a ton of flavor! Would go again!
Another great experience at this wonderful restaurant. Every time we visit it gets even better, and seems like LA is finding out about Wife and Somm. Can't wait until our next dinner here.
Wife and the Somm hosted our wedding reception and I couldn’t have asked for a better evening. From our trial, to menu specifications Christy had everything covered. The night flowed perfectly, with amazing wines, incredible food, superb hospitality (they played perfect wedding music all night). My husband and I love to eat and having a great meal was really important to us. Wife & Somm knocked it out of the park! The food was spectacular and we left with plenty of delicious leftovers for our honeymoon. Christy’s service and baking are both to die for and we can’t wait to come celebrate with them for our anniversaries and beyond!
Beautiful, upscale, fancy, super nice place for dinner in Glassell Park! Gorgeous interior, there's trees growing out of the ground and lots of seating indoors & outdoors. Amazing service, wonderful staff, yummy food and wine of course. Highly recommend. Come for a date or with friends. It's wonderful.
Amazing new head chef, ambiance, and food. It’s only been open for a couple months and it’s been packed by just word of mouth. Great attention to detail, flavors, quality, and friendly staff + great service.
The wines are beautiful, naturally. The pasta was one of my favorites, it tastes like something my grandma would make! The dessert was a bit too heavy (flourless chocolate cake) for my taste , so I'd probably advise a different option. Overall, it was a really beautiful experience. The portions can be smaller, but it's good for sharing bits of everything.
Absolutely love this place. Wine selection is incredible, and there’s great prices on the rare and vintage list. Food is excellent - especially loved the roast chicken.
A really beautiful new restaurant in the area. Sake, beer, and delicious wine. Food and cheese boards are delicious!!
Really cute East LA spot with an excellent wine selection and really knowledgable staff to help you choose the perfect glass… definitely recommend any of the seafood, especially the shrimp and octopus
I found this lovely restaurant searching for something special for my husband's birthday. We reserved a spot for the Tasting Menu and Wine Pairing. The food was amazing. Each dish was unique and seasoned to perfection. The portions were not skimpy, which can occur with multiple courses, and the wines truly complimented the flavors of the course. Having a sommelier, describing each pour was a treat. She had extensive knowledge, of the wine and the region. It was also impressive that they called to confirm my dietary restrictions (pescatarian) prior to our reservation. I had booked on Open Table. We plan on making this gem a regular eating spot and can't wait to go back.

This place is fantastic. The owners are hands on and super helpful. The waiters are super Knowledgeable and kind. The food and wine is AMAZING. We did the special Pinot flight and it was absolutely delicious. I bought a bottle. We will be back for sure!
Overall no complains. We beat the evening rush and had a wonderful time talking to the staff, Getting personalized recommendations, and enjoying a calm afternoon. The wine selection was incredible. I was able to meet a lot of staff, share som stories, talk palettes and enjoy a splendid evening. Ambiance is wonderful. Food is solid. Perfect evening out
What an incredible dinner! Miguel was a phenomenal guide to the menu and made sure we had a well rounded meal and the perfect wine to match. Every dish hit. Standouts were the charcuterie, mushrooms, tuna tartar, crispy potatoes, pork belly and the short ribs are something I’ll be dreaming about. Bravo!
The food was amazing from the server to meeting the owner and his wife, great atmosphere. We even got to meet an actor who works there. My daughters recognized him, and asked our server if that was who they thought it was. He was then brought over and played a little joke on us.Looking forward to going back.
Spring peas with sugar snap peas and pea shoots salad; if that doesn't speak to you then maybe twice crispy Weiser farm potatoes would. And, every bit of the menu is inventive, imaginative and, yet, familiar. The care and attention from the kitchen, to the hosts, to servers and the somm is delightful and refreshing. The wine list is amazing and affordable. All in all, I highly recommend this place. Bravo!! Update: while the fall offerings grace the menu now, rest is amazingly consistent and delightful as the first time.
We had the most wonderful meal. The service was over the top. Incredible! We particularly joyed the pork cutlet. The potato dish was an amazing taste treat as well. We sat on what was considered the outside but we will be back was really a lovely space filled with Vines growing up the wall. This is certainly a place you could get dressed up and have a fabulous time but also dress more casually and just enjoy a fine meal or some wine and a light bite in a wonderful space. Make sure to save some room for their cheesecake.
This place is a really awesome spot! I've been here for brunch a few times, and for dinner a couple times. The food is tasty, definitely get the potatoes with aioli! The wine selection is exceptional. The cheesecake is very delicious and light. Also,I have always had amazing service. Anessa, you are awesome. Also Brenda, David, & Nemesis! Thanks for amazing service! We continue to love coming here.
Wife and the Somm was a delightful surprise from start to finish. The tuna tartare was absolutely amazing—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully balanced. The potatoes were another standout, with a sauce so good we ended up pairing it with the pork, which, while well-cooked and tender, could have used just a touch more seasoning. That little sauce swap made it perfect. The crudo was also excellent, bright and refreshing. The ambiance strikes that sweet spot between casual and classy, making it ideal for both a relaxed night out and a special occasion. The wine selection is thoughtful, varied, and—most importantly—reasonably priced, which is rare these days. Overall, a wonderful dining experience that blends great food, great wine, and a warm atmosphere. I’ll definitely be back.
We had an amazing experience, from start to finish. A beautiful gem of a restaurant in the Glassell Park area, we found parking just across the street. We sat at the bar area, Miguel was wonderful, very knowledgeable and engaging. The wine list was very unique, every wine we chose was fantastic. We ordered a charcuterie plate, it was very filling, definitely a good value and very tasty. We can't wait to go back, I definitely recommend The Wife and the Some to everyone, you definitely won't be disappointed, in fact you will be extremely pleased.
While we're lucky to have Wife and the Somm as our neighborhood go-to, it's been great to watch it grow to become part of the fabric of the Los Angeles dining scene. The magic of Wife and the Somm is that you can make dining there as fancy or casual as you want the experience to be. Grab a seat at the bar for Wednesday's burger night (and then go play some pinball at Revenge Of across the street), hit up happy hour, or reserve a table in the back patio for a special occasion. The open and effortlessly chic interior will always make you feel cooler than you are the moment you walk in the door and the regularly updated menu is always full of delicious surprises. There's no shame in ordering one of everything to share with the table.
I loved everything about this place—the food, the atmosphere, the Christmas decorations, and even the wine display and interior design. Everything felt warm and thoughtfully curated. The only downside was that we were seated near the entrance, and cigarette smoke from people smoking outside kept coming in, which was a bit uncomfortable. Aside from that, everything was excellent. It’s a restaurant I’m genuinely excited to see listed as a Bib Gourmand in the future.
We had $55/pp DineLA menu and sat at the bar. Food came slow but service was rather attentive. Prawns 🦐 were cooked perfectly. Too much “fruits” in appetizer. Mushrooms were a bit overcooked. Highlight was the juicy pork chop! Great vibes and good food, but timing could improve.
Not a place I would have found without truly looking. Known for their fine wines and charcuterie, we went for tapas as we already started that earlier. The table split, the delicious Wagu Steak, July pork chops, poached pear salad ad the sautéed mushrooms, and a side of potatos. for dessert, we had a delicious chocolate cake home made on premises. the service was amazingNot a place I would have found without truly looking. I recently visited this restaurant with high hopes for a wonderful dining experience. The ambiance was undeniably charming and had a romantic touch to it. However, I must admit that I was quite disappointed with the food. It felt as though the chefs were not at their best on the day of my visit. The meat, unfortunately, turned out to be dry and lacked the succulence that I had hoped for, the salmon lacked the flavor and finesse. The shishito pepper, which I had tried at many other establishments, was unusually spicy here. If you're seeking a lovely spot to enjoy a glass of wine and soak in the atmosphere, this might be the place for you. However, if your primary focus is a satisfying culinary experience, it's best to explore other options.
Cute wine bar . Amazing wine selections. Food was okay . Had the pasta dish and octopus. Server Izzy was amazing and attentive. Will definitely be back to enjoy wine and vibes.
Great ambience and lovely experience. The food, although very good, didn’t quite meet all of my expectations. Overall still a very good restaurant.
I almost don't want to alert too many people about this place because it seems like a local spot, but it's too cute and tasty not to share. I had my birthday brunch here and Nemesis was a freaking delight. She was so bubbly and had great recommendations (both food and clothing lol)! I went looking for soft scrambled eggs and sadly found them to be a bit lacking - not very "soft" and a little under seasoned. Not hugely important as the biscuits, bacon, and French toast were big hits with both my husband and I. The interior is beautiful and the patio is super peaceful. You will see us again for burger night!
We’ve dined here several times when visiting LA, it’s always been a standout choice for us. Unfortunately, tonight was disappointing. I made a reservation weeks ago, yet when we arrived, we were met with a film crew and a table dining that was set up for what appeared to be a reality TV shoot. No one on staff acknowledged what was happening. While we were likely seated outside the camera shot, the whole atmosphere felt off. As we left, we noticed a waiver and liability sign placed to the side of the entry door - something we hadn’t seen when entering. It basically informed us that by entering we agreed to this. It’s disappointing that we weren’t informed of the filming when booking, confirming the reservation the day prior, or even upon arrival. I understand this may bring in revenue for the restaurant, and it’s LA, but customers deserve the choice to opt out of that experience. Not having made a drive to the restaurant and maybe or maybe not see a sign - what would have happened if we had seen the sign and decided not to enter? Do we get penalized for a “no show”, do we need to make last minute dinner plans at 7:30pm on a Saturday? It’s disappointing. We’ve always enjoyed dining here, but based on tonight, I’m not sure we’d return.
The atmosphere and service were definitely on point. The staff was attentive, and the ambiance was well thought out, making for a pleasant dining experience on the surface. Unfortunately, the food didn’t live up to the same standard. Overall, it was quite mediocre. Some dishes were noticeably bland, while others leaned too heavily on the salt, making it hard to enjoy the flavors. Nothing particularly stood out, and sadly, the meal was largely forgettable. A bit of a letdown, considering how promising everything else was.
3.5/5 This is a beautiful space. The restaurant was much larger than it looks and was quite full. They have an impressive wine list (hence the name) but the food was honestly underwhelming. For the starters, the golden and red beet and burrata salad was simple and nice. Broccolini was also simple but well cooked (had a crunch). Ahi tartare was probably the most flavorful item I had. It was served in 2 ways (tataki and tartare) on top of a puffed chip. I kind of wished it was presented like a traditional tartare (round mold) with the chips on the side. Lastly the entrée I tried was the Hamachi collar. It came out smelling fishy which made me believe it is not fresh. Lacked flavor but good portion. THE BEST ITEM I HAD: Basque cheesecake. I forgot to ask the server if the desserts were made in-house. So delicious. I'd probably come back one more time just to give it another chance, but not my first choice on returning.
Been here 4 times now and it's gotten worse each time. They seem to want to give you what they want you to have, and the prices...wow, the prices. Last time I was there I was with three friends and we ordered a decent amount of food and wine. The bill was $700 and I didn't eat a thing that I can remember fondly. The ribeye had an odd flavor. The salumi and potatoes were the most serv(ice)able items. We drank wine that they seemed to want us to have. We paid almost $700 for four people. Every restaurant is dealing with higher costs, but it's turning out that only a few find other ways to make us, their customers, feel that we are getting our money's worth. If you're going to pay this much for a meal, you can do better.
Great atmosphere. Food was unique though a bit put off with how it was advertised. For example they have a great scallop dish that they say is $4/scallop. Well the scallops are quartered meaning you’re only getting a little sliver per serving. Little disingenuous if you ask me.
Service and Atmosphere was great but food was not impressive at all. Yellowtail Crudo? Too many complicated flavors that still could not mask the subpar fish quality. Grilled Broccolini? No charred textures you’d expect from grilling. Only texture was oily and wet, like it was pan seared on low heat. Bologna’s Pasta for 2? Just as an impressive as a meal prep pasta from a blue apron / hello fresh subscription. We decided take the pasta and broccolini to go to so we eat somewhere else lol. I felt robbed paying $100 for this dinner last night. Pasta will be a decent leftover work lunch. I just gave away the broccolini to a hungry homeless person as soon as we walked out the door.
Buyer Beware. The server clearly knew we were looking at their low end glass of reds, between $13 to $16 a tiny pour, but when my date said “I’ll just have the cab” the server brought the one only cabernet by the glass from another menu that was $55.00. Never thought to mention the price to us or point to it on the listing menu or offer the suggestion we buy the bottle after we ordered a second glass, thinking it wouldn’t be more than $25, based on the menu we were given (still an outrage for the size of the pour). I could go on about how cold the place is and feels like a dental office waiting room, which is where I needed to be after eating their rock filled mussels. Can’t wait to relive this experience when I see the $400 on my Visa bill. No to this place.
