Went for Sunday Roast with the family , great atmosphere & lovely staff. My husband had the risotto & I had the chicken roast ( delicious) They also do a kids roast , the bar staff suggested mocktails for the kids who were super impressed! A lovely spot will be back 5 *

Food was delicious and service absolutely fantastic. The lady server we had couldn’t have done more to make us have the most enjoyable evening! Thank you we are not from the area and would certainly return!

Faultless experience here last week. Connor was our main waiter and he said was fantastic. Attentive, helpful and thoughtful at every stage. On top of that the food was brilliant quality and the atmosphere was lovely. Booked this as my backup as where I wanted to go was fully booked and I'm very happy about how it ended up. 11/10. Will definitely return

Had a fantastic evening! We went for food and drinks on Easter Sunday because another pub's kitchen closed before we could place an order. The food was amazing and great value for money. I highly recommend the standard burger! All the staff are so friendly, the service was great and I cannot wait to return.

We had the pleasure of DJing in the Standard last weekend. We use to DJ down stairs many years ago and overall this is a beautiful venue based in Loughton. The staff were incredible, Tasmin went above and beyond from the get go. Our client was over the moon and the party was a major success. We had my daughter's 18th family lunch at end of January. We had a table set up and sectioned off part in the main restaurant which worked fabulosly with our 30 guests. The fod was excellent and was exactly the right mix of options. All, young and old enjoyed it. The service was phenomonal. All my (and there were many) requirements were met. Well done The Standard, you're back on the map

Thank you so so much for allowing us to host my cousin's Baby Shower in your venue on Sunday. We had such a great time and the amount of people that complimented the space (I wouldn’t be surprised if you get a few bookings from it haha). I will definitely be using your space again! Communication was so prompt with Dee and we even got to meet in person at the venue so I could view the space before booking. Dee and the whole team on the day were so accommodating. In fact, the bar manager (apologies I forgot his name!) even helped to build our easel board hah, not sure who else would do this. We had no issues and everything ran so smoothly so thank you again! I’d 100% recommended booking this venue!

Very lovely roast with generous portions. I had the lamb which I would definitely recommend. They also come with 3 sides - broccoli, carrots/ parsnips and cauliflower cheese. The drinks were a bit disappointing which is why I have only given 4 stars

pretty tasty roast dinner - roast beef with all the trimmings (potatoes, veg, cauliflower cheese, carrot & swede mash and a yorkshire pudding) for only £19.50 - potatoes were really good, beef was tasty but a bit tough and they didn’t have any steak knives so quite hard to cut. yorkshire pudding was a bit burnt and didn’t taste like much. mocha didn’t have much coffee and the service was decent. all in all would probably recommend for a roast dinner as it is quite good value for money :))

Had a few beers here recently. Nice place, friendly staff. Very central, busy. Lots of bronze Adonis's with duck lips flailing thier arms around looking important.

Gorgeous decoration and a very relaxed atmosphere. The staff were so friendly, they really make you feel welcome. The drinks were also great. I had a Bloody Mary and my friend had an Espressotini, and the presentation was beautiful on both of them. Only took a star off because the food was underwhelming, I paid £5 for lobster mac and cheese but there was no cheese! Overall a good experience.

Pros: Good environment, good service, attentive staff, good quality food and servings Cons: I think it's a bit overpriced. Might just be because it's the Essex-y TOWIE crowd where spending more money makes you a bigger person but as good as the short rib or pork belly were, they're not worth £19.

A few months ago I booked the upstairs function room for our baby shower. I found that Michelle (the staff member that handles events bookings) was very responsive when booking the venue but much less so thereafter. There are no formal viewings of the function room that you can arrange before the event. Instead we were told to walk-in and ask the restaurant staff to show us the space, only they are naturally very busy. So we had to view the space in a rushed fashion, and the restaurant staff were unable to answer any questions we had about event planning. We were also sent a video of the space floor plan but not all the furniture in the video is included in the space on the day. There is no capacity to plan what furniture you need - and we were told that we had to have the room how it was laid out on the day. On the day we found the room was not well cleaned. The furniture which has a velvet upholstery was covered in stains and glitter. I asked Michelle for a vacuum to try and clean the furniture myself - but this was never provided. And finally, I think I found the communication with Michelle quite abrupt and rude. The only way to contact her is through WhatsApp or by calling her mobile number. As I work full time - I would often message Michelle in the evenings/weekends. Naturally when messaging a business you expect them to pick up the query the next working day - so at no point was I expecting an immediate response or did I call her out-of-hours. However each time she would send me the message "please feel free to call or text me tomorrow during working hours to discuss," and seemed to expect me to resend the message. I found this bizarre because as a restaurant I was unsure what her "working hours" were as they do operate in evenings/weekends. Also, if you're providing your mobile as your only contact, then possibly just wait to respond when you're next "working." Otherwise possibly use an e-mail or an alternate work number to communicate with clients. Overall although the event went well - I wouldn't book another event here. I found organising the event with Michelle was unnecessarily stressful and unpleasant. I will say that the serving restaurant staff on the day were lovely. We also found that the food was a big hit and reasonably priced.

Came here for a baby shower with some friends & family and was horrified when i saw that the upstairs women’s toilet was covered in thick mould !!!!! The hand dryer was something from a horror film! It was vile & made me feel incredibly sick. We were also informed that the upstairs outside deck area (how you had to entire the room might i add) was out of bounds, you could not drink or have a cigarette and we’re asked to walk down slippery wet (it was raining off & on) metal stairs & stand next to the road. Not only were the stairs themselves incredibly dangerous but to stand next to a busy road when you’ve been drinking alcohol is something else entirely. The staff were very nice & polite however and did apologise for the circumstances but quite frankly someone saying sorry for a bucket of mould doesn’t really cut it.

I visited with a friend and was greeted with a warm welcome from the waiter. Once the menu arrived I was surprised by how little choices there were, only 7 main course items. I opted for the lamb which was a small hot-Pot dish with red cabbage. The presentation was disappointing to say the least, a small pot on a plate with a scoop of red cabbage,. The dish itself had very little meat and what looked and tasted like diced frozen veg,. The staff were attentive and friendly but the atmosphere isn’t one of a restaurant, more of a wine bar with loud music so not conducive to having a conversation with your meal. I do hope they improve with age as the venue itself looked welcoming from outside.

We booked for a 40th birthday paid £750 for food as your not allowed to bring your own also paid the hire the room and had to reach £2000 at the bar or make up the shirt full, the room was dark light bulb hanging no shade just a bare room 2 tables just plonked, when the food arrived as photo, it was not what was ordered, 4 plates of chips and 4 pizza which weren't ordered microwave boa buns still hard in places, look at the photo when the manager came he agreed it wasn't tight and refunded £200 that still left £550 for crap food, wish I had seen reviews birthday will not be forgotten but not for the right reasons, not got anywhere with establishment, disgusting!!!!

I enquired about booking the upstairs for my birthday in early august for my birthday mid November. I was sent details about pricing and the tour straight away to which I said I was keen to book. I was also greatful at how quick Michelle got back to me, I asked if they take Amex to which I got a reply just saying ‘no’ I then asked if I could I put this booking in place as I was happy with how the venue looked (I used to party in this venue wayyy before it was the standard and back when it was ‘Luxe’ and ‘minx’ so was happy to have this as my 30th birthday venue. I asked if I could pay the venue hire fee on the Thursday ( This was the Tuesday) to which I got absolutely no reply. I then asked them to send over the bank details so I could make the transfer… no reply.. I text again asking if she had got my message about the transfer details. She replied with an abrupt message saying the date is gone because she gave it to someone else. When I questioned why, as I was asking for bank details and was keen to book in, ( She did not give me a sense of urgency or say at all about timings or other people were enquiring about this particular date) all I got was a rude and passive aggressive reply. Certainly says a lot that a lot of the reviews on here are about this woman’s people skills and being awfully rude. When I said this is not how you treat a potential customer who was waiting to pay the hire fee, (and the fact she didn’t even tell me I had to keep checking in) all I got was “ There is absolutely nothing wrong with our business” The humanly decent thing to do, is to reply to messages or at least say we cannot hold the venue for another 2 days, or I’m sorry if you don’t pay within X time I have to give this to someone else. There was nothing. Then to come back with a horrible message like that and not even an apology, her rude and abrupt manner has left me in tears all afternoon and stressed to high heavens about booking another venue. Absolutely horrific service, I work in customer service and would never speak to a potential customer like that or be rude and just not reply to messages. Think this manager needs a CPD course on people skills.

I recently booked The Standard after checking the website. Sunday lunch was £9 a head and a veggie option. When we got there, The music was too loud, hard to talk. The veggie option was just veg..with veg! The prices were much higher than website. We asked to turn music down a bit and was told No! We walked out. Went somewhere else and had lovely lunch

Went to the Standard last night. Absolutely shocking experience. Something has changed in this place. The food was inedible, old and cold. Had stomach pain all night. Are you trying to poison people? If you do not have enough staff you should close the kitchen. One person working in the whole restaurant. And one in the kitchen. Glasses were dirty on the tables. Very disappointed.

First time I dined here , I would have given 5stars for food . Second time it was it was good . This is third & last. Cold food , overcooked food . Service non existent . How hard can it be to cook & prepare a traditional roast dinner. Burnt hard potatoes This was poor , poor , poor.

We went there to have couple of drinks on a Saturday. When we walked in straight from the door they asked ys for id and told us if we don't have it they can't serve us . My girlfriend forgot hers and we offered to show a photo of the id but the waitress said no no we don't accept this . Nevertheless we've decided to have non alcoholic drinks and stay there for a minute. When I've ordered my drinks at the bar I've asked for couple shots of baby Guinness and i was told i can have only one like I'm some 14 years old boy... I did order one and after 10 mins the bartender came back and said they don't have Bailey's and i just walked out at this point. Very unwelcoming atmosphere since we walked in to be fair , very poor service from staff and in general just a let down. Won't be stepping there again. I've been in hospitality most of my life and that's now how you make happy customers. Go to The Maze in Waltham abbey and you'll see the difference of service straight away

I booked the upstairs function room for my 30th birthday and was sent a brochure with the different options of hire. I chose the full private hire, which stated that we would be allowed access to the roof terrace all night. Michelle sent a video of the venue which clearly included the terrace and this was a huge selling point for me. The night of the party we were not allowed on the roof terrace at all and were told it was closed. At no point during our communication was i advised the roof terrace was closed so advertising something that was unavailable. On arrival the toilets were blocked and clearly hadn't been cleaned, with no locks on the doors. To top it off, at the end of the night I was told that we had not met the minimum spend of £2k and ambushed with a bill of £400. They did not communicate to me at any point before the end of the party that we wasn't close to the minimum spend otherwise I would have paid it and told my guests the drinks are paid for the rest of the night. Instead I was ambushed at the very end of the night so that they basically take your money and don't want you to drink their alcohol either. When I tried to explain this to Michelle I was met with an unprofessional, disgusting, confrontational attitude. Overall disappointing experience as the confrontation I had to deal with the next day completely tainted a great night made by friends and family. Was not dealt with in a professional manner at all.

Do not bother going to this place. Save your money and time. Food is gross taste like leftovers for dogs. Rude staff. Poor customer services, if you dare to ask they ignore you. Toilets are dirty and smell like mould. Do not be fooled from the outside. My foot would never step there again ‼️

I put 5star for food because I didn't eat there and so I can't comment on that one. PROS: -The lady behind the bar was really nice. -Good music. -Good location CONS: -No wine list. How can you run a bar/restaurant and not have a wine list ? 🤦🏻‍♀️ -Thick cheap glassware!! -Very open inside. Basically its just one big room. They could do with segregating certain areas so it feels more intimate. -Bright lighting. There's potential for it to be a nice place, but as it stands its not great.
