I visited based on the high recommendation of a recent client and was not disappointed in the least! The chicken was fresh and perfectly seasoned and fried. I got the 4 piece that I thought was too much food and surprisingly I nearly ate the whole thing, it was so good. I’m definitely going to enjoy eating the rest later!

I absolutely loved this place. This guy walked in wearing VT merch (I wear VT stuff for the hockey team only and am from Roanoke VA) and I thought this was the greatest place to stop in for some lunch. As I watched the locals coming in and it was getting busier and busier you just couldn’t help but feel you were sitting at your Granny’s table while family was all around you. I swear it felt like I was welcome and it sounds silly but I felt like I had been there many times before. Wonderful place and wonderful people. I even bought a shirt lol

Edited and updated for typos. This place is 45 minutes from my house and I would gladly drive it every other day to get their chicken fingers. They are perfect. First of all they are huge. Secondly, they are tender! No woody chicken going on here! A family member chimed in to tell me that their bacon cheeseburger is "to die for". But the way I see it, why go to a chicken place and not order chicken? It's like going to an Italian restaurant and ordering a burrito. You just don't do it. The service was, as always, amazing. I didn't catch my server's name because it was Sunday afternoon in the Bible belt and that means the place was packed to the gills. She did an outstanding job and I never had to ask for anything. (Including a to go box when I couldn't eat everything.) Oh! One more very pertinent piece of information: my brother and his wife live just outside of Luverne and I asked where was the best place to get a good milkshake. They said The Chicken Shack has the best shakes in town. So on the way home, I stopped back in and ordered a shake. They weren't fibbing - it was absolutely delicious. Probably the best milkshake I've had in years. That sonuvagun was THICK, too. So thick I wasn't even able to start drinking it until I got through Brantley. (Btw, slow down through Brantley. They are NOT kidding with those "Strictly Enforced" signs...)

Delicious food, friendly service and reasonable prices. This is a hometown favorite that has been serving up comfort food to residents of Crenshaw County for many generations. My grandparents were regular customers. I make a point to stop by when I am in the area visiting relatives. The fried chicken is their specialty, but the vegetables and other sides and desserts are also quite good. We visit for the lunch specials and are never disappointed. I recommend this restaurant. Update 8/6/2023: visited once again for a Sunday lunch and the place was packed. I had dark meat chicken, turnip greens and cream corn. The portion sizes were very generous, the service was incredibly fast for such a busy place. Every spot in the parking lot and every seat inside appeared to be occupied, but the entire restaurant is run like a well oiled machine. There was almost no wait to order, to get our food and there was almost no wait to check out. This is still my favorite restaurant in Crenshaw County.

This place is a real gem. My husband was thrilled to see that they had country ham on the menu! He asked for it with red eye gravy, and the chef obliged. It was absolutely delicious! I had their chicken tenders, which were huge, moist and lightly breaded. They were some of the best I ever had!

Found this place by accident after GPS took us off the main roads. Did not disappoint. Food was great. Staff was great. They were really busy at lunch and for a good reason.

True southern Accent

This a great Southern Restaurant. They don’t mash the potatoes they cream them. Best fried chicken and best sweet Tea. The banana pudding was great.

Oh my! Really great fried chicken and better yet...the prices are great! They have many comfort food sides to choose from to add to their specials. Like Lima beans, collard greens, rice, slaw, mashed potatoes, peach cobbler. Etc. You won't be disappointed. 4 adults, 1 child....bill $22....including drinks . The parking lot is on the north side of the building. Take-out is in front and dine-in is in the back. Enter in the back to seat yourself anywhere you can find to suit your number of guests. Very friendly staff and great service. Crowded on Sundays after church lets out.

Old timey place with excellent fried chicken. A couple of the sides were just OK, but the potato salad was really good. Don’t get the mashed potatoes unless you likerehydrated potato flakes. Fried dough balls and smashed cold rolls come in every basket. Definitely worth the stop and relatively inexpensive. Again, great chicken!

Ordered a big order of chicken,coleslaw ,fries and Okra. Food was great but did not receive rolls. We called back and did I did not order rolls. I did because I ask what else goes with. The girl said rolls. I said ok a dozen. So then we go for rolls and ordered banana pudding and we were given banana splits instead. If you do not know the difference between the two some retraining might be in order. Mistakes are made but when it is every order There is a problem.

DON'T DO IT.... If you are looking for soul food, this is NOT it. You will be mad. Big Mama isn't in the kitchen. The people were friendly. The service was decent and, the bathrooms were clean. However, the food left a lot to be desired. If you just are dying to try it, stop by Dollar General and pick up some seasonings on your way.

To many different cooks has made this business with a low view salty food burnt grease when cooking the fried food ! I will certainly rate the chicken shack rate of 50 percent they really need to step up bc Jack's chicken is much better all day long! The chicken shack has gone down real talk

We wanted so badly to love it. Chicken was really bland for our taste buds. We got the 1/2 livers and gizzards, half chicken, and chicken tenders. Came with slaw and a roll and onion rings. MAKE SURE TO ASK FOR CONDIMENTS, you’ll need them. The coleslaw is different, made with sweet pickles. Spent about $36 for all 3 meals. Service was wonderful and the best part of the meal!!
