Entre por casualidad, y quedé sorprendido. Había pasado muchas veces por allí, ahora entraré cada vez que pueda. Me gustaron muchísimos las gambas, la rapidez, el hambre te de bar madrileño abarrotado, pero a pesar de ello, el buen servicio, y la simpatía de los que estaban detrás de la barra. Incluso me lo encontré por la noche en otro lugar, y me saludó con la misma simpatía. Un 10 de servicio, volveré sin duda.

Unas de las mejores gambas al ajillo que he probado, lo hicimos en la terraza con un poco de fresquito, por lo que nos supieron a gloria bendita, la ración son 18€, lo valen y la ración es correcta.

Gran descubrimiento. En el centro de Madrid. Las gambas al ajillo sorprendentes con pan calentito y todo, pero... las croquetas.. las croquetas de camarón, ESPECTACULARES. Los camareros súper atentos y muy buen servicio. Una taberna centenaria, de las de toda la vida. Volveremos, sin dudarlo.

Pedimos unas croquetas de camarón, gambas al ajillo y unos boquerones en vinagre y estaba todo muy bueno, lo mejor las gambas. Pero aún mejor fue el servicio: nos atendió Rubio, súper atento, cercano y profesional, haciendo que la experiencia fuese todavía más agradable. Sin duda, un sitio al que volveremos.

A must-visit in Madrid! We had an incredible experience at La Casa del Abuelo. The atmosphere is authentic and warm, and even though we came with our 2-month-old baby, the staff was extremely welcoming. The food is legendary for a reason—the 'Gambas al Ajillo' (garlic prawns) were the best we’ve ever had, perfectly seasoned and served sizzling hot. Don’t miss out on their signature sweet red wine; it’s the perfect pairing. Excellent service, amazing food, and a very heart-warming hospitality. Highly recommended for everyone, including families with little ones! 5 stars!

We stopped at this tapas spot in Madrid and tried their prawns (gambas) cooked over fire in a clay dish with olive oil and garlic. It was the only dish we ordered, but it was excellent — full of flavor, perfectly cooked, and served in a generous portion. Simple, authentic, and really satisfying. Busy with locals and tourists Luckily got a solo table outside just as someone was leaving. My waiter was great - on point and quick. I got what I came for, gambas al ajilo - and was in seafood heaven. A meal for 1, a share for 2 or more.

This bar is famous in Madrid because it has been around forever (OK, not forever but for over 100 years). We sat outside, they have properties on both sides of the road. The staff were efficient, hard working but very polite and welcoming. The bar is famous for the garlic prawns, honestly you better like garlic as you can smell them from half way down the street. Absolutely delicious. A really nice way to spend a bit of time in the afternoon with a couple of beers, some prawns and bread and watch the world go by.

Came here for tapas and a concert broke out! Great atmosphere, lively bar. The waiters are very friendly, helpful, and also get in on the music! Tapas are very tasty and drinks are refreshing.

Such a vibe! A perfect little spot for great food, atmosphere, and people-watching. We had the shrimp (so good), the sweetest fresh tomatoes, and washed it all down with a couple of jugs of sangria. It’s laid-back, fun, and chatty—the kind of place where you just sink in and enjoy the energy. If you’re uptight, this joint (or honestly, maybe even this city) probably isn’t for you.

Came for the garlic shrimp! Didn’t disappoint! I don’t know why all the bad reviews! These people are crazy. The shrimp was fresh and delicious. Freshly made! Lots of garlic (bit too much even)only complaint is about the bread: it was a bit dry but at 8pm it was probably not just baked so it’s fine. The waiter is a vibe! He is whistling, shouting at people in Spanish! 😆 Loved it! He made sure I got a table as soon as I got to the restaurant. I came at 8pm so just before the dinner crowd but still only 2 tables were left outside. Inside full of locals! Very nice experience! 18€ for shrimp with bread and 3€ for a glass of wine!

Service was excellent! We tried their garlic shrimp, and the shrimps were incredibly sweet and fresh. The bread was perfectly crunchy on the outside and soft inside, amazing when dipped into the olive oil from the shrimp. We also tried their homemade wine along with the regular wine; the homemade one was sweeter and paired nicely with the food. Highly recommended!

Great restaurant in the heart of Madrid, amazing prawn Al ajillo. Really really nice food, quite expensive, for 3 of us it was around €120. Don’t expect 5 star service, it’s old fashioned and simple, the staff bring you nice food, you just eat it, it’s 5/5 in its own way. Un clasico en Madrid para tomar gambas al ajillo, siguen siendo una delicia. Eso si se han subido un poco a la parra con el precio: 2 cervezas y unas gambas 24 €.... pero muy recomendable.

Riquísimas las Gambas al Ajillo y las croquetas con jamón. Este restaurant tiene varias sucursales en Madrid, solo visité esta pero tengo entendido que la calidad de la cocina española es excelente en todas sus locaciones Fuimos en familia y el ambiente es muy agradable aunque la atención un poco lenta ese día. Volvería por esas gambas de todas maneras.

Eso si, las gambas al ajillo, increíbles! recomiendo ir un día a tomar un chato y una ración de gambas. Los chipirones plancha un gran acierto. Las croquetas de gamba roja demasiado rellenas, eran un poco empalagosas pero buen sabor.

Came here for their famous garlic shrimp (Gambas al Ajillo). They serve it in a sizzling hot pan and the flavor is incredible, though it was a bit on the salty side for me. A few things to note: It is definitely a bit pricey, and be aware that they actually charge for the hot pan/service, which adds up. There are a few branches of this restaurant very close to each other in the same area.

La Casa del Abuelo surely a very popular place for locals and tourist to go. As I sat there so many locals eating their Tapas and enjoying themselves. I went there for the shrimp. I was disappointed with the price €18.50. I’m sorry that was too expensive for you and I had to go around the corner to find one for €14. But I have to say that the quality looks pretty good, but the price for me was yo no! Now they have two locations just across the street from one another, and you can see the action and the vibration is a little bit higher there with the workers shouting out to one another sitting people down. You can see in the main location how they prepare the food if you want. They have these funny little tables in the middle of the room where you can place your food and drinks and stand and eat if you like Also seems like a place where locals come eat a bit drink and have a chat. For me, it’s like a local scene bar from the city To be honest with you, I just sat and had a beer and felt the vibration and had a nice time, but was disappointed that I could not try their shrimp thing because of the cost. Hopefully this review will give you a good idea of the location if you’re not worried about money go have a good time. The service just a snappy as it can be. I do recommend this place, but I warn you is expensive

We came here to try their garlic shrimp. They cook it for you right there through a glass and it looked Delicious. But once we tried it we were instantly disappointed. The shrimp was soooo mushy and just not pleasant to eat. The sauce and garlic was very good but the shrimp just did not have that crunch and freshness that it should have. I made it aware to the workers there and all they said that it was because they dont cook it with butter. I understand that but when I cook shrimp without butter at home my shrimp are not that mushy. It was really disappointing. Do not recommend here for garlic shrimp.

Overpriced and mediocre food. Was told the octopus was out of stock so only ordered the garlic prawns and then felt guilted to get a bread. La comida es buena pero pedimos 2 bocatas de calamares y nos llegaron 2 bocatas de chipirones (adjunto la foto). Pensamos que era un error y al irnos se lo comentamos al camarero para que lo supiesen y cual fue nuestra sorpresa cuando nos contestó: “es que aquí los hacemos así”. Teniendo en cuenta que está dibujado el bocadillo en la entrada con calamares y que consta así en la carta, igual deberían poner bien el producto… porque hecho así puedes pedir lo que quieras de la carta y te pueden traer cualquier cosa “porque allí lo hacen así”

Francamente decepcionados. Las relación calidad precio no se corresponde. El servicio agradable pero unas gambas al ajillo mediocres junto a un vino de toro de igual categoría no merecen el precio que nos cobraron: 3,90€ por vino y 10,90€ por una cazuelita de gambas al ajillo. Creo que no vamos a volver. Somos de Madrid.

Una experiencia totalmente nefasta.Sitio para no repetir en la vida si no quieres salir decepcionado con gente que se dedica a la hostelería tanto por falta de entendimiento en la dispensación del bebida como conocimiento del producto que sirven,pedida una ración de gamba de 24 unidades daba una mezcla entre miedo y lastima verlas aspecto pasado se hacen en una freidora que tiene color asemejado al de una coca cola por no hablar de la capa de costra de los fogones. En la misma tanda te fríen las gambas y una ración de torreznos.Y como broche final al pedir la cuenta resulta que por la triste ración de gambas te cobran 45€ y solo falta decir:alto esto es un atraco.Vmao digno de visitar por inspección de sanidad.

Had quite a disappointing experience here in spite of all the accolades and recommendations. The famous gambas al ajillo was not very fragrant from garlic or olive oil, there were lots of shells still on the shrimp, and also a lot of sand in the shrimp and oil/sauce. The huevos rotos also had unevenly cooked and greasy potatoes, overcooked eggs, and very salty. The mushrooms were overcooked too. Very expensive for very poorly executed food. Not worth even a one time visit for a traveller in Madrid.
