French cuisine, great brunch place. Will visit again.
One of my favorite places in NJ, try the foie gras.
Great service and awesome food. Will be back soon. 👍🏾👍🏾
Always excellent!! Delicious food and great service
Great food, great relaxed warm atmosphere
Great food, wonderful service, delightful people!
Romantic and special occasion venue for that special person! Excellent, attentive staff.Relaxed atmosphere.
One of the finest true country French bistros in the North East ! Food is exceptional and professional service is a joy to experience. Tonight is a birthday dinner for me with friends and we are having a very special experience now.
Wonderful food and amazing service. Had a trout fishing and it was out of this world. The fish was perfectly cooked and had a lemon shave unlike any I have ever tasted.
Incredible. The food and it’s presentation is unrivaled. The service is professional and most friendly. I can’t say enough about it. A great dining experience.
Went for Brunch. Best orange juice ive ever had. Great fixed price menu and high quality drinks. Very friendly staff
Very upscale, with a wonderful atmosphere and DELICIOUS food. Be sure to watch out for their special price-fixed meals.
Lovely couple own and run the place. Pride of ownership. Husband is the chef and food us great!
Been there few times. I am never disappointed. Food is always great and staff is nice and friendly.
Best French food outside of France and not a pretentious feel for newbies! Great wine list
The best black Angus beef I ever ate. I asked for medium well..perfect cooked
Consistently excellent. Great desserts. A charming, understated dining room.
Excellent food and service. The ambience is conducive to enjoying great conversation over a leisurely meal.
An unexpected pleasure and culinary delight. My wife had the most delicate buttermilk bread crumb dusted crab cakes with Wasabi sauce on the side. We both agreed it was the absolute best crab cake we have ever had. I had the escargot and the portions were generous and the garlic wine sauce was prepared excellently. My main course was the hanger steak ordered rare and the preparation was perfect and the presentation plate it was exactly as depicted on their website. No knife required for this succulent piece of steak. We intend to come back many times in the future
We celebrated my mother's birthday at Verjus and had a splendid time. Food, service and ambience were all excellent. Their wine list is also reasonably priced.
A fine dining establishment. They staff was very accommodating without being overly attentive. The food was flavorful and well seasoned. Next time we may just pay a visit to enjoy some appitizers and a glass of wine!
A special restaurant, intimate with a quiet clientele. Gracious hosts and excellent chef. The chef remains in the kitchen cooking to ensure the quality of the food not walking around the dining tables to “talk it up.”
Verjus is simply a gem. Honestly one of my favorite dining experiences. The food, ambience and service were truly exceptional. From amuse bouche to a decadent profiterole dessert, we were tastefully surprised by the quality of ingredients and excellent ingenuity by the chef. The escargot was divine and I woke up thinking about how to recreate the twice baked potatoes served with the steak au poive. Two thumbs up and we will happily visit again soon!
What an amazing surprise to find high quality, fine dining French cuisine/experience in our backyard. Food was exquisite and packed with flavor. Will definitely return.
This is a lovely restaurant with really amazing cuisine. I have always been pleased here. Owned by the chef and his wife, there is a definitive "homey" feel here. My wife and I had our first fine dining experience here after moving to the area around 9 years ago, and we've never had any complaints going here. Generally a quiet, mature crowd.
This restaurant is an NJ treasure, run by a wonderful husband and wife. They serve delicious (mostly French) cuisine, but occasionally run other themes. We've eaten there many times over the years. Never disappointed. Hope to dine in again, now getting take-out and loving it.
Excellent service. Well prepared and delicious food. The chef and the staff( owners ) were very knowledgeable when I asked about any gluten free items on the menu. Although the beef bourguignon was not on the menu the night that I went, the chef actually remembered that I specifically asked him two days prior if this menu item was prepared gluten free. So he actually saved me a portion for the night that I came in and it did not disappoint. Oh and the other entrees and appetizers were fantastic as well. This is a restaurant that I will definitely return to.
Great meal. Friendly environment sets the mood for a great dinner experience. Turkey great, Beef great. The drink selection was fantastic and the Haunted Bourbon ? was a nice surprise. The desert finish was fantastic and Lavender Creme Brulee and Profiteroles, yum. Wonderful staff.
What can I say... if I died and went to heaven, they would be serving Verjus all day and night. Favorite restaurant. Period. Family owned business, everyone is chatty and personable, right down to the waiters (some of whom are part of the family). Service is prompt and attentive. Everything is held to the highest, most impeccable standard. I've been here at least 10 times (I'm not made of money) and have yet to be disappointed. Every time I go out, if it's not Verjus, I'm missing out. Want to know more? The menu includes some classic French-inspired favorites but has a rotating selection of fresh, seasonal ingredients. Everything may come off the shelf, including white truffles. If you want your favorite dish and it's not listed, the chef just may have it in back. A cozy place that tends to fill up on weekends, so go on a weeknight to enjoy a truly personal and fabulous experience. I've never gone wrong with an appetizer or entree, and as for dessert? Perfection in every selection. I'm not exaggerating in this review.
Just came back from our first dinner there. Our first impression is fantastic. The quality of the food and the service is comparable with those best restaurants in Manhattan. In the past we could say what we liked and what was so so, but in this case we have to say that everything was excellent. We are definitively going back there. Four people sitting close to us were also making plans to visit this place soon. Ah! Have I mentioned that the owner is the Chef and his family serve?! No wonder the food tasted soooooo good!
Quaint, welcoming and personal are what you get immediately upon entering. The restaurant is turned away from the street, seemed odd at first but the atmosphere and food allow me a french country perspective. I have not been able to find better pate, which was made from duck liver when I was there. Although not exactly french their own smoked salmon is one of my favorites as well. The well placed bold spices work well with the hint of sweetness. The steaks and fish are fabulous, but my most remarkable experience to date has been the venison which was so tender and flavor filled that I still enjoy the memory. The wines are carefully selected and are very consistent from year to year, suggesting some attention to detail. But the biggest secret of all, is the lunch menu where you can get great service and food without the large volume of food ( or pricetag). My favorites include the burger, the bisque and the french onion soup.
The service was perfect, our glasses were never empty and they kept the table clutter free. We were lucky enough to get the only table with a window. We were not rushed in any way even though we were there a half hr after closing time. It was such a fun and fancy night with my girlfriends of 20 years. Thanks Verjus for a great night out!
This place may not look amazing from the outside but is more than worth a visit. Phenomenal food that is consistently on top lists for NJ. The service is attentive and the drinks are delicious. It is great for a celebration or to elevate from the usual lunch out.
Food was excellent. Service attentive. Bit of a lag between courses.
Review for dinner on Saturday 3/23/13: Overall: Excellent. Partner and I went to dinner for 8:15 reservation we were seated within 5 mins. To start we each had a salad (mesclun; frisee with blue cheese, beets and walnuts). I had the halibut wrapped in ham and Napa cabbage, it was perfectly cooked, but would've been just as good without the ham and napa. My better half had the hangar steak medium -- and she said it was AWESOME. For dessert, the profiteroles lived up to their billing and the fresh strawberry and blueberry crisp with creme fraiche ice cream didn't disappoint either. It was our first time to Verjus and certainly won't be our last. No pretense just excellent food in a comfortable atmosphere.
One of the best French restaurant you can ever visit outside of France. Had the escargot as appetizer and duck as entree. Melt in your mouth
Consistently good. I am even getting used to getting the food in plastic take-out containers these days—still very nicely arranged—though we eagerly await dining inside again.
The food was delicious and outstanding. The server was nice and knowledgeable. The food did take longer than usual to come.
Good family owned-operated establishment. The food is quality french without the intimidation.
Far from the Madding Crowd Excellent seasonal menu. Quiet and charming service. Family owned. Fresh ingredients, French with American haute cuisine nuances. No bar scene (a good thing.)
My husband took me for a couples night. The food was exceptional, the ambiance was good (not romantic), it seemed to be a place that has regular guests and is frequented by friends and business colleagues. My husband and I were easily the youngest guests; we are in our 30's and we placed everyone else in their 50's/60's. We know French cuisine isn't trendy right now - but what a shame! Everyone should give this place a try, I have recommended it to all my friends. The Escargot was so good that I wanted to order a second appetizer! The night we were there the specials included Sweetbreads (pancreas). It was my first time trying this dish so I don't have a great frame of reference, but I thought it was delicious! Tender with excellent flavor. The wine list was short but has some great choices. The owner walks between tables, greeting repeat customers and conversing with new faces. We will definitely go back!
My boyfriend and I went here for our anniversary dinner on a Sunday night. I LOVE that this restaurant is family owned, and that they were all working. Once I heard that, I was head over heels for this restaurant. The owner is so sweet, full of smiles, and cracking little jokes here and there. Very apparent that customer service is a priority. Everything was delicious! The bread was served warm, one of the best mushroom soups I have ever had. And dessert! The chocolate mousse is a must! My boyfriend doesn’t like desserts at all, and nearly finished it himself. We can not wait to go back!
The food was underwhelming for somewhere with so many great reviews. Also overpriced for what you get.
Desserts were really good and everyone was nice but this place feels like it may have been good a decade ago? Nothing i got was great, especially relative to the high prices. Duck was overcooked. My cousin didn't like her scallops. The branzino was quite tasty. Apps were fine. And cocktails were disappointing.
Nice charming place, my food came out burned. I've been to Paris and other places in France before and I've could of made the food here.
The food was just average. I could give it 3 stars, but the high price simply redudes the "total value" to 2 stars for me. My family ordered the fish (very good), steak (good) and coq au vin, which was below average. I had way better French cuisine. Disappointed.
Every survey i completed had expired how annoying after getting all of my information. .
