Tried this place for first time, we were not disappointed. VERY tasty food and great service!
Great food any time of day! Always delicious, and happy hour makes it even better.
I went last night with my wife and kid. I ordered a tomahawk steak and wife lobster tail with steak. I must say pretty Damm good. Paid 0ver 250 but it was totally worth it. Excellent service.
What a great place with absolutely some of the best food. The establishment even supported an Autism non profit during the pandemic. Everything here tastes amazing. Don't be put off by the lack of parking this place is a diamond in Newark
My girlfriend and I came here to dine for our anniversary. I made sure to make reservations in advance. This was our first time trying Chateau of Spain and it did not disappoint at all. My gf and I arrived there shortly after 11:30a. The staff was polite and courtesy upon our arrival. Once we were seated our server made sure we had water, fresh bread and butter at our table. I had the sirloin steak sandwich (well done) along with onion rings. My gf order a combination platter which consisted of onion rings, chicken tenders, fried calamari, mozzarella sticks, and hot wings. Our food was well prepared and came out hot. They have a pretty good variety of food and beverages to pick from. The prices are somewhat expensive but Chateau of Spain does provide wonderful and great service. We'll definitely be back sometime in the future.
October 2025 Went back again, and the food was great! Fried Hennessy wings (garlic) was tasty and had a little Hennessy taste at the end. The Chicken Parmesean sandwich was good (8/10), I needed more sauce. Sweet potato fires were good! *important to know is that there is an 18% gratuity automatically charged, no matter how many people you are with. 2019 Food was delicious!!!! Reasonable prices for a big portion of food! I had the garlic pork chops!! Sooo good!!!! My wife got the NY Strip and that was amazing too!!! We Will definitely be back!
First floor is for causal dress. Second floor is for fine dinning. When you go dress like your going to McDonalds or any fast food joint your only embarrassing your self. A shirt that says lazy day every day is hilarious in a fine dinning location. Secondly cell phone should be kept in your pocket and simply enjoy the food and they company your will. If you can't do that why did you come with them? Food delicious. Service very nice Price just right. Would totally recommend. Shall return!
First time here and definitely not my last! Food was amazing! Had the stuff salmon couldn’t even eat it off 😩😩...definitely going back for happy hour...the blue sangria was the bomb! Everything was great!
Excellent food, excellent service, convenient in downtown Newark. I had a steak that was the best I've had in a long time!
Very nice place, the fajitas were really good, service and people have a cool vibe, special thanks to Manuel el chino for the excellent service 👍the best michelada I’ve had in the USA
The Chateau of Spain was a great food experience. The staff were kind and accomadating. The portions for the entrees on the back of the menu are huge as can be seen in the pictures. I had the stuffed soule and my wife had the seafood rice. Both entrees are highly recommended. The restraunt/ bar has been in operation for 30 years. The bathroom was very clean. If you are looking for a more quiet/ intimate setting, the seating upstairs should work well( more formal). We sat downstairs because we were in a hurry to catch a comedy show at Newark Symphony Hall. Music was a bit loud but it is a bar as well and we could have sat upstairs. All in all a wonderful dining experience.
Excellent food! Portions are large and service is excellent!
First time there. MY coworker recommended. Service & food was awesome. I had the Lamb chops & Spinach & it was perfect.
Ahhhh-mazing..quality food and exceptional service. The the stuff shrimp and calamari was wonderful. Everything was great. Will return!
Had a great experience tonight celebrating 10 year anniversary with my love 💓 💘 all the food and 🍸 🍹 were good.
Waitress on checked with us 1 time when we needed napkins, drinks, and even had to wait for a bill with only 2 tablets with other guests
Tried their food for the first time yesterday and was pleasantly surprised yet grateful that they served chicken wings like it ought to be (a whole chicken wing counted as one) the wings were seasoned and fried well. The food temperature was on point. Overall the food was very good. The cashiers were polite. Would recommend and would definitely eat there again. Thank you all!
Delightful dinner out! Highlights were the calamari, and the steak and shrimp on the specials that night (maybe every night?). My wife got the Paella which was enormous and full of seafood, enough for at least two ppl.
This is one of my favorite restaurants. The food is reasonably priced and absolutely delicious. They have dining set up downstairs and upstairs, they have more of a fine dining set up.
I went to the Château Spain for a work event, and I am so glad that I hosted the event at this place. We ordered a specific event package which included food and drinks! The options were delicious and we ate everything.
Great place, good atmosphere, delicious food and desserts. Fantastic music by DJ Midnight 🎶🎵🎵🎼🎤🎧. If you're looking for a restaurant with that in mind look no further. Chateau of Spain is an excellent choice 👌 👏 👍🏽
My first time here and I was beyond pleased with everything. Food, service, atmosphere everything was great! The chicken wings were huge and so good, the burger was delicious and the Ssngria, I'll just say we had more than 3 pitchers! Everything was so good! Definitely a vibe and a good one at that. Next time I'm in town I'll definitely be back for a visit.
Nice staff and nice place. Certain dishes were hits certain were not. Decent prices be ready to pay about 20 for apps and 20-70 for entrees.
Went to a friends sweet 16 birthday party here and the setup was really nice. Thank goodness it was on a Sunday because parking would have been tough. We were on the second floor. Tables were set up according to the number in the party which we had about 20. One thing that was annoying was another party that was there was very loud. I mean laughing and talking as if they were they only ones there. It would have been nice if they asked them to calm down a bit but nope we had to deal with it until they left. The food was really good. No one at our table had problems or complaints. We ordered a pitcher of red and white sangria. Neither tasted flavorful like a sangria should be to me. Maybe they put to much ice 🤷🏾♀️. Overall a great place to eat and I do plan to return.
Food was great. Got the garlic shrimp and stuffed mushrooms. Food came out really really slow however, attitude of one of the waiters was not very good, seemed bummed about his job. The man with the glasses, his service was excellent, super polite, props to him. Overall an OK experience. If you're in the area come here but maybe not worth going to from a distance.
This is related to a small family gathering on a Sunday. The elevator made it easy to transport items to upper level. Staff greeted us at the door to assist with cake and signage. The staff was pleasant from beginning to the end. There was another gathering in the same room after ours and my biggest concern was turn around time if I were the later party I would not want to walk into a mess. The staff was diligent in the clean up and linen changes without rushing us to clear the room. There was a need for another table and the staff accommodated the extra senior guests quickly and without disrupting the flow of the event. The only uncomfortable thing in the upper room ( back) is the fact this is where the bathrooms are located so everyone walks through that room. There were no problems but that needs to be considered if you are considering a private event in this particular room.
The place is good for when you see a show at Prudential. Better make reservation. Big portions. My friend and I ordered one appetizer and a seafood Paella we have leftovers to take home for both of us.
I'm mixed on this place. The name of this restaurant is a complete misnomer. Make sure you spend time looking at the menu, so you're not surprised by the odd mix of cuisines. This is not to say that the Chipotle wrap, the Caesar chicken wrap, or the Chicken Parmesen were not good meals, but what's with the name of the restaurant. The fact that "chateau" is a French word, not Spanish, probably should have been the sign of what was to come. Nonetheless, the food was good. The servers were attentive and very welcoming. The R&B music playing from the jukebox was fitting for the potpourri-style theme of this restaurant. I have no problem recommending this place for a good, casual place to enjoy good food. Just do not expect a fancy Spanish restaurant as the name might imply.
Very good spanish, food 2 of our 3 plates were very delicious. They need to improve their paella valenciana, lots of room for improvement. The salmon was delicious. The stuffed jumbo shrimp also very good...service was on point.
The food was delicious with the exception of the rolls... How do you bring out cold rolls with cold butter and say you don't heat/ warm the rolls? Never have I ever heard of that... The sangria was watered down... I'm not a drinker and it didn't even give me a buzz... lol
Was my first time eating here and was a good experience. We had a large group as we were celebrating a birthday, so we were seated on the 2nd floor. Nice ambiance, vibe and decor in the restaurant. The staff is very personable, attentive and helpful. Once we placed our orders, the food & drinks came out pretty quickly. A friend and I split an order of calamari, which was good. We all order a few pitchers of sangria for the table and those were pretty good. For my main course, I ordered the Stuffed Salmon (stuffed with crabmeat) with the Saffron Rice and Vegetables as my sides. The Stuffed Salmon was really good! I'm glad I ordered it. Also, the portion sizes we're huge! I definitely wasn't able to eat all the salmon there. Overall, good food & dining experience. Would recommend and go there again.
One of my favorite go to local restaurants. The music , the ciroc sangria, the food all are great. I truly enjoy when I can get a seat at the bar. Chino the bartender is great. The dining servers are ok. I will continue to come back.
Parking is a problem at this place so it's better to take a taxi or Uber or Lyft. The place was nice, clean, interior was very clean. My server was very nice and professional, her name was Chris from Brazil. I had ordered veggie burger, to me it tasted as if the veg patty was a little Over cooked. Otherwise everything was fine
We went here before the Blake Shelton concert. There appears to be a downstairs and upstairs area, not sure if they're the same or not. Anyway, we were seated upstairs. The menu we were presented was different than what's offered in their online menu. When asked, we were told it's the night of an event, and they take certain things off the menu. It appeared to us that burgers and wraps, etc, were taken off. A lot of prices are "market" prices which change daily so you have to ask what the prices are. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. The menu clearly states how long appetizers and main dishes take to prepare, no separate checks, 20% tips included, and a 3% charge for credit cards. The ladies split the combo fajitas platter, which they enjoyed, and the amount of food was plentiful. My buddy had the pork chips, which he said were excellent. I had the fish and chips, 4 pieces of fish along with homemade chips, and one other side. Overall a good experience.
The food was okay. The service was marginal at best. This place can not decide if it is a bar with food or a restaurant with a bar. If you want a quiet evening not your place to go.
Perfect location to hit up before a hockey game for apps and drinks. The sangria was REALLY good. We ended up ordering some of their Portuguese food and unfortunately were really disappointed with the lack of flavor and high price (we spent $145 on 1 glass of sangria, 2 entrees, and an appetizer). We’ll probably come back before another game but instead get the fried chicken like everyone else 😅. Just a heads up, gratuity is automatically applied to your check.
The service was not good. It's hard to get good customer service when gratuities are already implemented. They said it's was real crab 🤔meat and it was not for😡 $35 it should have been.
Service was excellent. All staff members were friendly and helpful. Mussels Diablo were ok. Seafood paella was disgusting. Overcooked, soupy, and testless. Do not recommend it at all. Interior decor could be better.
We came at 9 to grab dinner while in town for an event. We all had the stuffed sole specials. Originally one of our party ordered swordfish but the kitchen ran out. It took them 45 minutes to tell us this so it took over hour to get the food. We were the last people to leave the restaurant. The food was good. But not so good to make up for that really long wait.
I would have definitely given 5 stars for our server Dijon. He was very attentive to our needs and a personality to warm your heart. With that being said they should teach others that work there the proper way to handle a person's food. You do not allow your fingers in my plate. Once I brought it to the young man attention his attitude changed and he in turn sent someone else over to assist me. Poor customer service skills. Needless to say the food was delicious, the stuffed scallops were ok, the Jumbo Shrimp Scampi (OMG) very flavorful. That Watermelon Ciroc Sangria was very tasty. When you have poor service you tend to see a place differently. Again Dijon came over and made everything better. Thank you Dijon!
The food was "Ok". I expected more.... The sangria was definitely tasty, the liquor that was used to mix it, was very strong. I didn't like that there was no parking garage (only metered street parking.
Service is good but food is average. If you expect authentic Spanish food, this is not the place. Chicken wings, chicken sandwiches and similar on the menu and a few Spanish items. What gives it a three star is that tip was already added to the bill (we were only four), and they try to make you double pay the tip - shame on you.
Ever seen an authentic Spanish joint with fried chicken on the menu? Neither have I! But that was the only decent food here and that’s not saying much. A friend and I stopped in for dinner, it wasn’t busy at all on the weeknight we went. Sat near the bar and started with their shrimp in garlic sauce, which was bland, definitely nothing like the real Gambas al Ajillo you’d get from an authentic Spanish restaurant. This version had frozen shrimp which weren’t very good and the sauce was bland, no spice and hardly any garlic. Based on this and the pics I saw online, I opted for fried chicken for my entrée. Their fried chicken was hardly battered, mostly just fried chicken skin with a very lite, unflavorful dredge, if any dredge at all. Their “saffron” rice had color, but no flavor. Their black beans were also rather flavorless. Thankfully they had decent hot sauce, because that’s what I used to give my dinner flavor. Service was adequate. Definitely would never return here. I’m sure this place is run by Spanish folks, they just de-flavored their food and use not-so-fresh ingredients that it just really negatively affected the flavors and overall experience.
I have been going to the Chateau since the early 90's. Let me start by saying that the food is always great! However, besides the portions growing increasingly smaller and smaller, the price has been rapidly increasing! I bought 2 dishes to go and if you look at the picture you'll see it's a very small portion full of rice and fries for the price of $36 dollars for each dish. I will think twice next time when I get the urge to travel so far to get their dishes.
Had dinner here last night with my brother, food and service was good no complaints there. Last time we both had dinner here was probably in June we both got the fajitas and although very good, it was just too much food so we thought we would split something this time. Upon informing the server that we would be splitting an entree he told us there was a 10 dollar split fee. As a fine dining server typically fine dining restaurants charge a split fee and they split the dish for you in the back and add more sides this covers the fee. The dish was neither split for us nor any additional sides added. They only bought out an extra plate and when questioned we were told “well that’s how it is”. I’ve also been to this establishment with a friend a few times and we typically sit at the bar and split entrees but as I mentioned previously I work in the restaurant industry and I didn’t want to cause a scene. Please beware
Sadly, we wouldn’t come back here again… To start off, the service and ambiance were excellent. But we ordered the mussels diablo in green sauce, and the mussels were foul—expired or contaminated in some way, and giving off a STRONG bad smell. We wondered how the cooks didn’t notice this, and they served it to us anyway. Sent it back. Someone can get seriously sick. We had ordered the seafood paella at the same time, and when it came, the same expired mussels were in it. There’s an issue with quality control… However, the other dishes such as the white wine sangria, calamari, and chicken cutlet with garlic sauce were nice.
I haven't ordered from this place in so long and today I ordered my usual and I'm so disappointed with the little food they gave for the $51.34 I paid. They even made the pan smaller. Wow I use to love this place because the food was good and you use to get a bang for your bucks.
The food was ok my shock my wife got a sangria there was no price in the menu and she was charged $18 for that’s absolutely crazy.Horrible place to find parking.
Ordered pickup house salad & vegetables they just put anything in the salad oranges, apples, rotten avocado, I only wanted a regular salad, I asked for sautéed vegetables in garlic sauce given over cooked broccoli and carrots, and stale bread. very overpriced I only ordered sides, not an entree and paid $70.00. The salad and vegetables were not that fresh disappointed ☹️
I ordered chicken Parmesan and pasta because I had it before, It was delicious back than about 5 months ago.but today oh my God it had know good taste to it. I was very disappointed and it cost me $31.00. wasted money on my part but they got paid. Yuk
