Opinions de Castillo's Mexican Restaurant Mariposa
I came here for my birthday dinner on Feb 5! The food was good! I had vegetarian quesadillas, mango margarita and the most delicious dessert as pictured. I forgot what it’s called. Has raspberry in it! Our waiter was nice & surprised me with the dessert since it was my birthday. That really made my night! I highly recommend this restaurant up the hill! Nice atmosphere filled with rich mexican cultural paintings & art.
We had a great experience at Castillo’s Mexican Restaurant in Mariposa. The place has a welcoming, family-style atmosphere and friendly staff who made us feel right at home. We ordered the shredded beef burrito and the chimichanga, both were excellent! The shredded beef was tender and flavorful. The chimichanga was perfectly crispy on the outside and full of flavor inside. Everything tasted freshly made, and the portions were generous. Service was fast and attentive, and prices were reasonable for the quality and portion size. Overall, a great spot if you’re craving authentic Mexican food in Mariposa. We’ll definitely come back next time we’re in town!
Visiting from Southern California with a brother from Oakhurst, they recommended this location and they didn't disappoint. Janet took great care of our group. Service was outstanding and my Chicken fajitas was delicious 😋
Passing thru on our way from Sequoia and Kings Canyon to Yosemite. A long day of driving and we were hungry. Half a block off the main drag, a hidden gem. We sat outside, greeted immediately by a great wait staff. Food was more than we could eat. Flavorful. Good GF options for daughter. Charged us up for the rest of the drive. Spent about $23/person. Would go again.
They know hospitality!! We had a day filled with hiking that soon got cancelled by our rental car battery being dead. We were standstill at the house and this place made us food for 7 people and delivered it to us within 35 minutes! Thank you Mariposa Castillo’s, you saved 7 people from starvation 😋 The food was delicious and devoured within what seemed like 10 minutes 😂
My daughter and I were visiting Mariposa, CA, for two nights, and we went here for dinner on our last night in town. The food and service were excellent. The serving sizes were large, and prices were reasonable. We would visit here again the next time we are in town.
Found this gem of a restaurant by accident , good thing we made a good choice , Amazing food and staff was very nice and attentive to us. Food serving was good for two ( unless you are a big eater ) , highly recommend to anyone visiting this small town.
Okay we were staying in Mariposa to allow us to visit Yosemite National Park and we checked out at the hotel. We're looking for a place to have lunch before we get on the road and we remember seeing this little Mexican restaurant on the previous night walk around Old Town Mariposa. So we went to it today and it turned out to be an excellent choice! :-) the place is very well decorated and clean and bright! The service was excellent and the food was excellent as well! :-) definitely a place to check out if you are ever in Mariposa!
Excellent service at Castillo's. I ordered the Chile verde chimichanga. It was delicious 😋 Tables are a little tight. If it gets too crowded go to Nayo's down the street. Has more space.

Welcoming, friendly staff, tight quarters inside on a crowded night. They oopsed on my order but fixed it right away. They were able to accommodate gluten/dairy allergy and made recommendations to find a good option. Tons of flavor packed into the enchiladas, rice and beans. Lots of food, reasonable price. My friend really liked the salsa as well (I didn't have salsa/chips due to shared fryer, but fried on site was a plus for those without allergy!).

Great suggestions by the staff to make our dinner gluten free. We do recommend the corn tacos and enchiladas. Stick with the shredded beef and sauteed vegetables, both were excellent. Their shredded chicken was ok flavoring but very dry. Skip the ground beef, it missed the mark.
Excellent, authentic Mexican!! We enjoyed our food and house margaritas!
I was really hungry after my hike, and for a place to sit down and dine in. The restaurant is small, but their portion sizes are not. You get an order of tortilla chips and salsa. The staff is really friendly too. I ordered my food and in about 10 or so minutes I was served my meal. The items on the menu are priced reasonably and the portion sizes match it too. Overall a good place to sit down and eat at.
Visited here with my family! It has nice ambience. Good food. They have vegetarian options as well.

Food is average, American-Mexican fare, but decent. The friendly service and charming atmosphere won me over. Overall a nice place.
We wandered in hoping for a good meal. It was nice enough, nothing special. There was lots to eat which was good, unfortunately the main dish of vegetable fajitas was overly salty. We tried to eat the vegetables without the sort of gravy, to lessen the salt. The rice was nice and so was the salad with the guac. I wouldn't rush back, but it was alright.
We were looking for a meal after a morning in yosemite. It was a hot day and we needed somewhere with fast service and cool drinks to clench the palette. We saw that there were 3 Mexican places in town and choose this one due to it being near the main drag of shops. The server was nice and we were the only ones in there for a bit. Their air conditioning was the highlight. The margaritas were okay and so was everything else. The beans were a tad bit salty and the sauce on the burrito tasted more gravyish. Have public restrooms for patrons.
After a long day of hiking, my girlfriend and I needed to refuel. We chose Castillo’s as we were really hungry and just wanted something familiar. Sadly, the food was just alright. The food lacked flavor and the margaritas could have been stronger. The service was pretty decent but I was pretty letdown with the overall experience.

Service was good, but overall, the food didn’t deliver. The salsa had large tomato chunks that made it difficult to eat with nachos. The avocado taco came with cold vegetables and a deep-fried shell, Fajitas were decent, and the fries were more like potato wedges.

The Tostado's ground beef wasn't fully cooked. Wouldn't eat it. The Chimichanga was ok, very basic beans, shredded beef and cheese. The pico de gallo was good, but had no salsa. Unfortunately I can't recommend this location.

White servers, English music, a “burrito” with tomatoes chopped to the size of an apricot, and unchopped salsa. I was so shocked I was laughing. My Mexican friends told me to run, but we’d already ordered food, so we stayed. It was quite the experience, and I wouldn’t recommend, unfortunately; unless you’re seeking a salad in your burrito and bland food - sorry Mariposa Castillo but it was laughable.

I hate to leave this but my chili relllano was really bad. Who ever the cook was on Thursday Dec 18, 2025 did a terrible job. I had pork pieces on top and the coating was not done and just aweful.
