Opinions de Maria's Melissa
Very authentic and fun place to dine. The portions were very generous and delicious. Service was excellent as well.
Great restaurant that was busy. Had plenty of staff and the food was brought out quick and tasted very good. The process were absolutely reasonable.
I honestly enjoyed my experience. I went during week for lunch. The servers were very nice. Food was brought out quickly and hot. The flavor was great and everything was cooked well. I really have no complaints. Oh, and the price was very fair for lunch and a lemonade. I had enchilada plate with beans and rice and my total was right around $11. Can't beat that nowadays. I will definitely stop by again when working in that area.
Great place for TexMex food. Food is delicious! Very reasonably priced. Salsa is good. I love their Queso. Their Margaritas are great. They also have beer and wine. It's our new go to Mexican Restaurant.
Perfect for a restaurant that's not a chain. Food is always prepared very quickly and it's always been great. You can't beat their service and their prices are great. Everyone there is always friendly and prompt to greet you, take care of whatever you need and just an all around pleasant experience every time. Would recommend to anyone. They might even sway a non Mexican food lover over to their side of the food industry. It's that good y'all!
Maria's Mexican Restaurant in Melissa, TX is hands down one of the best Mexican food spots in the area. The food is delicious and fresh, the service is friendly and efficient, and the atmosphere is cozy and inviting. Whether you're in the mood for tacos, enchiladas, or anything in between, you can't go wrong with a visit to Maria's. It's a great spot for a casual dinner with friends or a family outing. Highly recommended!
They serve you warm fresh tortilla chips with salsa while you decide what meal you want. When you order a hot meal it comes out on a very hot plate to keep the temperature of the food warm while you eat. Prices are very reasonable. I’ve eaten here twice and would recommend if you’d like a nice warm meal.
We always love Maria's! Food is always fresh & flavorful. We always have great service. The only complaint (which is not really a complaint) is that sometimes they're so busy! But that's just because they're so awesome!
Enjoyed a nice dinner! Food was amazing!
Nono's is THE dish of a century. Run. Don't walk. Delish! Line goes fast. Service excellent. Great chips! Only downside... Noise. It's sooooo loud.. concrete floors etc.
Fajitas for two could’ve fed at least three. Delicious salsa to start.
First time at this restaurant and I really enjoyed it. My fajitas tasted great, the Mexican cokes were cold, the customer service was outstanding, and their restrooms were clean. A baby changing table with a privacy curtain was also available. 👍
Great food and service. If we ever go back to the area, definitely going back!!!
This is the best authentic mexican food ever. Just come to melissa and try it... You will not be sorry. In the owner is a hard working lady.
Great food and super friendly staff!
Fast friendly service with good food.
This is the best TexMex in Melissa!! We have been eating here with our family for years. The food is always delicious. If you like spicy food ask for the hot salsa with your chips, you won’t be disappointed!
I was appalled by the quick service we received. Lulu was great and our food was good and delicious, came out within 10/12 mins. I also had the strawberry daiquiri and it was great. 😊
I'm not going to lie, the location itself didn't initially catch my eye, but don't let that fool you—this spot is a hidden gem! The service was top-notch, and the food was absolutely delicious. A standout perk was the complimentary chips and salsa, and the fact that everyone got their own salsa dish was a thoughtful touch. I ordered the flautas, and they were phenomenal! The portion size was generous, served with a side of rice and beans, making it a meal that truly delivered on value. The flautas were incredibly fresh, packed with flavor, and perfectly crunchy—even with all the toppings, they didn’t lose their texture. As an added bonus, they tasted just as amazing the next day as leftovers! This place exceeded my expectations, and I highly recommend checking it out. You won’t be disappointed!
While making a run to the amazing Green Acres garden store (5.0 rating!) we decided to hit a local Melissa restaurant and Maria's was our choice. We experienced fabulous food, excellent service, and a charming Mom and Pop atmosphere!!! My only recommendations would be to add bacon wrapped camarones brochette to the menu and remodel the bathrooms. Otherwise, grrrreat place!!!
Great restaurant and great owner! Yesenia cares about the food and the people! Food was awesome
Absolutely the best local Mexican food has down!!
Great Mexican food. We go there every time we visit Melissa. Highly recommend it for the quality, value, and friendliness.
Great food! Great prices
I have finally found a Mexican restaurant in the Dallas area that is as good as those I miss in Houston, where I grew up. Everything was flavored so well. I had the best tamale!
Chips n salsa was badass! The Asada Ranchero goes hard in the paint. Been there once and would go back again for sure. Great lunch/ dinner!!!
Tried it 3 times. This place is well run. Consistent food and service. Salsa has a bite like it should, no pepperless tomato mush. Tabasco, Valentino's, Cholula on hand. I can't say enough. Thank You Maria's.
Incredible service and amazing foods! 10/10
This place is very good every time my family goes.
Always a good and affordable meal.
Great food and wonderful people!
Looking for restaurants between Sam Rayburn Mckinney and Melissa, found this gem. No paper memu scan the code..! Super. Awesome choices and willing to customise everything.... Virgin Margaritas..Yes Non-meant entrees with lots of fish and shrimp options...Yes Loaded avacado...Yes Large portions and lovely drinks... Worth another stop..Yes Totally !!! You will see me again and I recommend people 👍👍
Y'all. So good! Kind of a hole in the wall looking place but do not let that detour you. Go inside and find out for yourself and your tastebuds will appreciate you. We love our Mexican food and this place is one of the best around. The prices make this place even better. You definitely get your money's worth here. Nothing about the presentation is fancy but who cares when the food is good. My daughter got thr lunch fajitas and was appreciative of the veggies (onions & bell peppers) that came along with the fajita meat. Some of your fancier Mexican restaurants are lacking when it comes to that. I ordered a combo plate that came with 2 enchiladas (one cheese and one chicken), rice and beans. The chili con carne sauce for the cheese enchilada was spot on. We live in Denison and tried this place on a whim while headed to McKinney. Honestly wish we lived closer so we could eat here more often. It is definitely worth the drive for a return trip!
We love Maria’s! Everything is great! I had Chicken A La Parrilla, but I like to add some of their salsa on top to kick it up a notch, and the side of veggies, is just what I was looking for. My husband had an Enchilada combo dinner which never disappoints. The chips and salsa are great, fresh warm chips and just the right level of spice to the salsa. Sorry, I didn’t think to take pictures, but trust me, it was really good! Highly recommend!!
This unassuming restaurant sits behind an Exxon gas station and beneath a water tower. I'm expecting service station tacos experience ie good food and modest surroundings, but inside, it's like a different world. Huge space which can sit up to 150 guests and it's almost full, for a weekday lunch. The service is prompt and courteous, the lunch specials inexpensive and good. It's early so we didn't try their bar. Restrooms are clean too.
Great food, fast and polite service, what else could you ask for?
Secret favorite! Love this place! Great food, fun atmosphere, and wonderful service!
5 star - excellent food - staff - building - very clean - feels like home - thank you all for always being so kind
I have eaten at Maria’s many times and never been disappointed. The food is good, the staff is so nice and attentive. The place is always busy. If you come for lunch, parking is a bit of a headache but I’ve never waited more than 5 minutes for a spot. Just a good local place to eat.
Highly recommend the food is amazing and the people are very friendly worth every dime you spend. Also, you should tip them very very well because they are GREAT🤎. This will for sure be a go to for me the steak is cooked to perfection thanks for making me feel welcomed.
Really good food and service! The food came out so hot and fresh. My margarita could have been a little stronger but maybe that’s just me lol. I got the beef fajitas and I was shocked and very impressed how tender the beef was! Really enjoyed the rice and beans My boyfriend got the verde carnitas and he really liked them. Normally when we go to Gloria’s he can’t find a dish he likes. We will be back for sure!
Great food, great service, and excellent value!
Never been in here. It's definitely worth it. Very friendly and great food. The prices are very good.
Maria’s is one of our all time favorite restaurants. The servers are so sweet, the food is delicious, and their menu is well priced.
Maria’s Mexican Restaurant absolutely delivered. 🔥 We ordered the combo fajitas for two as a pickup and it was only $40 — which is beyond reasonable for the schmacking quality they gave us. The portions were generous, everything was fresh, and the flavor was on point. The meat was tender and seasoned perfectly. The peppers were cooked just right — flavorful with that perfect bite. Every single part of it was straight up schmacking. Service was phenomenal too. Nothing but happy faces and great energy when we picked up our order. You can tell they care. And I’m convinced the chef was wearing a smile while making this meal, because that kind of flavor only comes from someone putting love into the food. Real schmacking food like that doesn’t happen by accident. We’ll definitely be back. 🌮🔥
Great food, Great service, Great prices and the most wonderful staff.
It's the best family like atmosphere. Best food. Best service. Did I say BEST yet?
Maria’s is my favorite local Mexican spot. This isn’t Tex mex, it’s actual Mexican food. There’s a reason why their parking lot is always packed. Their lunch specials are a great deal. Some of the best salsa around too. But my favorite is their soup. Service ranges from barely tolerable to great depending on who you get.
What a great meal! We stopped in while visiting town and were pleasantly surprised. The salsa was fresh and flavorful, and the fajitas were tender and tasty. The atmosphere was relaxed, with background music that didn’t overpower conversation. Overall, a solid spot for excellent food, I would recommend 👍
We moved to Anna in April. We knew that we would love Salsa Tex-mex after living in Frisco. I was told by a friend of mine to try Maria's Mexican Restaurant because it was the best Mexican food in this area - north of McKinney. Tonight was our 4th visit back to Maria's because it has been great each time. They did not disappoint. Everyone from the hostess, to our server, Theresa, and the person at check out. The food was hot and delicious. I'm having my brother come from Plano just because he wants to eat at Maria's. Any other time he won't come see me because I am too far. HAHA. UPDATE: We went again to Maria's this past Friday 6/6/25. Fajitas for 2 was the best Fajitas that we have ever had and we eat at a lot of Mexican restaurants. Service was outstanding. They know exactly how to place the food on the table. I even made a comment to my husband that they all love their jobs and want to make sure that the customer has the best experience ever!
Older restaurant with limited parking. Restaurant is clean and in good order, as are the restrooms. Wide selection of entrees at reasonable prices. Wait staff was attentive and polite. This is one of those hidden gems of small family Mexican restaurants that put the high priced chains to shame. Very highly recommend.
A bit difficult to get into the lot. Menu is large. Salsa is hot. Food is ok. Service was good but needed split bills. Even though we went at an off time, it was reasonably busy.
Food was good, prices are reasonable. A lot bigger on the inside than it looks from the outside
Great prices! Good food. Not so crazy about refried beans. Overall great place to eat!
Great food for the price. Parking lot could use some more lighting.
The food was good, but nothing exceptional. We had to wait for food a little longer than I'd prefer considering how empty the restaurant was, but the employees were very kind and courteous.
We drive over from Paris just to eat here. The food and service is soon good! Hands down the most tender steak ranchero I've ever had. Very flavorful. The price was good too.
This is a hidden gem. The food is great!! It always comes out hot. I recommend the chicken in anything that you order. It's all white meat, tender, and cooked to perfection. The service is on point. Very friendly wait staff. And the drinks are pretty dang good as well! The parking is kinda sketchy, as it is kinda behind a store. Which is why I call it a Hidden gem...lol. But once you taste the food, you will get over the parking pretty quick. This one comes highly recommended as it's as authentic as ya get. Had to share this one with yall, until next time...Y'all keep the rubber side down, and will catch yall next time ....✌️
The service at Maria's is top notch. Love the bright colors and Mexcian decor. It's a little tricky to find. I wouldn't drive a long way to eat here. However, if you're in the area and craving Mexican absolutely stop. The food is good. Nothing great, but certainly not bad. The portions are huge and loaded with fresh veggies.
Had a nice dinner. Enchiladas and tacos were both good. Service was okay.
Had dinner with a friend there. Was there for kinda of a short meeting.. it felt as though our waitress was trying to rush us from the table.. took my plate without asking if I was done. 4 bites I'll never get back.lol
We enjoyed our dinner here. It was a busy Friday night, but there is a lot of space inside, and the wait was less than 10 minutes. The staff worked extremely hard, and everyone was so friendly. Food was yummy. I didn't give it 5 stars only because there's so much Mexican food to choose from, and this wasn't our favorite, but the chips/salsa are at the top of our list, and the margaritas are large and you feel them :) Thanks for a great dinner out!
I tried Maria’s for lunch to switch things up and really enjoyed it. The food was good and flavorful, and the pricing was reasonable. I did a to-go order, and while they missed my chips, everything else was correct and well prepared. Overall, I’d recommend giving it a try.
We had the sour cream enchiladas with chicken and the carne a la tampiquena. We also ordered a bowl of queso to go with the chips and salsa you get. The queso seemed like it was just bagged or canned Rico's. Not bad but with a decent home recipe you could really wow some people. The enchiladas were great you can't really go wrong with that choice. The filet mignon honestly is just skirt steak in my opinion, but it is honestly kind of what i expected for the price of the plate lol. Either way it was seasoned and cooked nicely and had a whole lot of flavor so it was still a great meal. The server was very nice and attentive and definitely helped the good vibe of our meal continue till we left.
I've come here a couple of times. The food is fine, but I haven't had anything there yet to make me feel like I need to tell people they need to go try this place. But it's a local restaurant and if you would like to support a small family owned business, this isn't a bad one to support!
Like the food best for a small country town. Today I went to place an order and the lady Jessy at the check out desk was so rude! No smile no eye contact… she seemed annoyed and like she was not wanting to help. There was an older Hispanic lady that stepped up and was soo nice! Love my Hispanic ppl, as I am Hispanic too.. but that girl Jessy has to fix her face and attitude!
Food in comparison to price was good. They badly need to work on customer service especially the one that works out front taking the money. Just remember people if it's a Mexican restaurant and they give you store-bought tortillas it is not an authentic Mexican restaurant just a fast food Mexican place. Handicap ramp far away from the door. Sweeping around the table while I'm eating was a turn off. I wish them well in all of their endeavors
Maria's has been a staple in Melissa ever since we moved here over 15 years ago. Of the three Mexican restaurants in Melissa, it appears to be the most popular. Quite frankly, I'm really not sure why. I would rank Maria's as a clear 3rd of the three Mexican options. You will leave Maria's full, but you'll never walk away telling friends about the amazing meal that you just had. Perhaps it's popularity is because it's more of a Tex-Mex style than the other two, and that is the preference around here. Or it could be that it's run by a very kind family that always makes you feel welcome. I don't dislike Maria's like my wife does, but it's never an option we would choose. If you're looking for a great local hangout, this is the place. If you want amazing Mexican food, look elsewhere.
Been going here for 4 years. Enjoyed the food and it was good. Our last visit on this past Wednesday, the salsa was not what it was in the past. No spice and no salt. Their food seems to have gone down hill. Maybe they have a new cook. I can't complain on the service. It was exceptional. Bring back the good salsa and food.
I have to say this experience was somewhat of a mixed bag. As we entered the staff was friendly and greeted our large party of 7. Our server was really friendly and provided silverware and drinks promptly. The chips and salsa were meh at best , but it was just the style of salsa that I didn’t like. Really no one’s fault but my own. As the server came back my party had some questions/ requests , considering it was our first here, and the server was incredible!! He answered questions , made suggestions to accommodate the kiddos, he was great! Once the food arrived … the food was a good temperature but the flavor of the food lacked. It came off bland. I ordered the enchiladas and , which I wouldn’t usually order and the taste just fell flat. Considering the service was great and the atmosphere was ok… I would definitely try this place again. Maybe I’ll order something I usually order and that may help. Have to say the service was the saving grace and actually swayed me to give this place another try
Definitely Tex- mex but food is not delicious nor has good taste to it. I have been to a lot of restaurants especially true Mexicans since I’m Hispanic and this was by far is one of the worst I have stop. The only good thing there was the tostadas and salsa that they give to you while you wait for your food. But other than that I do not recommend it. I’m not sure why a lot of people say is good which makes me think that they have never ate a true Mexico dish. For reference my family of 6 spend around 100.00 Kids nachos - horrible they were dry and just ugly Flautas- sour cream should be prepared so it’s not too thick and guacamole also was way to thick and serve in a little tiny cup? It should be in top of the flautas and serve a decent amount for the serving. Shrimp plate- just horrible saggy and overcooked
Cold food, imitation cheese, refried beans blah, need anything more. Won't be back.
The food is sub-par. Chips taste like old oil. Other items are blah. Service was meh, which contributed to the 2 stars. The atmosphere was good.
Ordered several items, the best item was the rice. Nothing to rave about. Service was good until checking out. Was charged for salsa verde and when asking why, the man said we don’t give away things for free. Isn’t the chips and salsa free? His rude demeanor was enough to not come back and try other items.
We were rushed to order, our waitress was inattentive and had to flagged down and reminded to bring stuff. I’m Chicana and eat Tex-Mex at a few restaurants and this will NEVER be one I would recommend or go to in the future. A big disappointment and served horrible Mexican Rice and refried beans had some weird seasoning, and the chicken fajita meat ordered for my granddaughter was cooked to crispiness.
Food gave my husband violent food poisoning. When we called to let the staff know, the owner himself got on the phone and spent several minutes arguing with us about how unlikely it was that we got food poisoning from that restaurant. I want to say our experience wasn't all bad, but knowing now how the owner treats customers and foodborne illness, I can't find it in myself to say anything nice. What I can say is that if there's an issue with your meal, chances are, you'll just have to suck that up. Smh.
Food had nadty I was very disappointed. I will never eat there again
Been eating here for 12 years. Never again. Guy that took my to go order turned 3 of my items into meals resulting in a $25+ over charge. When I got home with the food and called to explain, he remembered me and acknowledged his mistake but said there was nothing he could do. Said he talked to the manager and the manager said "we assume everything is a meal" I will take my business elsewhere from now on. Somewhere that doesn't rush you off the phone and charge you for things you didnt order and will own up to their mistakes.
Ordered queso with peppers , no peppers in queso, tasted like nothing but cheese, so I told the manager and he said this is how they serve it. And walked away with a smile. Edit: I ordered the pork-chops, that were paper thin and chewy, service was horrible food was terrible. Management was bad as well. DO NOT GO HERE! Taco Bell is better
Really poor service and bland food. I saw 2 people at table next to me walk out because their order was incorrect and no one was taking care of them to fix it. They ordered a #1 and a #3. I remember it clearly but somehow only one plate came out and wife's plate was getting cold for 15 minutes while man was sitting with nothing. Not a good date night for them. The greeter at the door doesn't welcome and acts annoyed that you walk in. As I am writing this my waitress rushed up and told me that she gave me the wrong check... just don't bother coming here. If the food was good... but it is super bland... so, thumbs way down on this cafe. Photo is of my empty glass of tea waiting for someone to refill it... so... if you are tired of living and want to die of thirst... this is an option.
I am very sad to say, but my family got very sick after eating here. My 8 yo daughter vomited and my wife and I had diarrhea, no appetite, and tremendous weakness the day after. It did not taste bad as we were eating but we definitely had some sort of food poisoning with bacterial toxins. We came near closing but did not expect to eat toxins. We ordered crispy tacos, sour cream chicken enchiladas, cocktail shrimp, rice and beans. We are new to DFW and were just trying out a new local restaurant to try and support.
If there was a contest for the most disappointing Mexican food in town, this place would take first prize without even trying. The queso came out as one solid block of yellow, with zero seasoning, and possibly no jalapeños at all. Honestly, a jar of Tostitos queso from Walmart would have put it to shame. I ordered the chimichanga with fajita beef—big mistake. It looked sad and tasted worse, like the cow had given up halfway through life. My date’s enchiladas weren’t any better—the chicken was somehow bone-dry, despite being drowned in sour cream sauce. The refried beans were pale and looked like they’d been cooked by someone who’s never seen a bean before. The cheese enchilada tasted like someone hacked off a slice from a block of government cheese and hoped the oven would finish the job. Spoiler: it didn’t. The service matched the food—mediocre at best. I had to ask several times for water, even while the server made eye contact with me, like we were in a silent stand-off. Save yourself the trouble (and the stomachache).
We went to this restaurant for a family dinner hoping to enjoy a nice meal together. We ordered three dishes: a cheese enchilada, a vegetarian entree, and a chicken dish for my cousin. When the food arrived at our table, we were shocked and disgusted to see that all three dishes—including the cheese enchilada, which should have been completely meatless—had beef mixed into them. This wasn’t a small trace or a tiny mistake; there were clear pieces of beef in dishes that were supposed to be vegetarian. We immediately called over our server and asked to speak with the manager because something was seriously wrong. When the manager came to our table, he told us they cook everything on the same grill without cleaning it between orders. Even worse, he openly admitted that if they’re busy, they don’t bother cleaning the grill at all. He actually said, “We don’t clean our grill if we’re busy and don’t care about the customer,” which was shocking and honestly unbelievable to hear directly from someone in charge. This experience showed a complete lack of care and respect for customers who are vegetarian, vegan, or have religious or cultural reasons for avoiding certain meats. It’s not just disrespectful—it’s also dangerous. Cross-contamination like this can cause severe or even life-threatening reactions for people with food allergies. Anyone who thinks they’re ordering a vegetarian meal could unknowingly end up eating beef, which could lead to serious health problems or go against their dietary restrictions and personal beliefs. What’s even more concerning is that when we questioned how they could be allowed to operate like this, the manager told us they had passed health inspections. I honestly don’t know how that’s possible if they admit to not cleaning or sanitizing their grill between cooking beef, chicken, and vegetarian food. It’s extremely unsettling to think other customers could be eating food contaminated with ingredients they didn’t order or can’t safely consume. Restaurants have a responsibility to keep customers safe and respect their choices, whether they’re made for health, religious, or ethical reasons. This restaurant clearly doesn’t take that responsibility seriously. Based on what we experienced and what the manager openly admitted, I don’t see how anyone with dietary restrictions, food allergies, or even basic expectations of clean cooking practices could feel comfortable eating here. I absolutely do not recommend this restaurant to anyone—especially vegetarians, vegans, people with food allergies, or anyone who simply wants to know and trust what they’re eating. Our experience showed they don’t take even the most basic precautions to keep different foods separate or safe, and they clearly don’t value the health or well-being of their customers. I hope this review helps others make an informed decision and that it pushes the restaurant to completely rethink and improve how they prepare food before someone gets seriously hurt.
