The waiter was great the best service I have ever had in the past 5 years coming here !!!

Stopped by here for lunch after church. Service was great! We were sat immediately with chips and salsa and water to follow. Food came quickly as well, and my chicken tacos were yummy!

Surprise this is my first time trying this place. And I won't lie this is WAY better then that Christina restaurant! The cream and queso tasted like actually Mexican cheese! The chips have FLAVOR?!? WHAT?!? usually I hardly eat burritos but this FAT burrito was.. HEAVEN! Anyway I recommend it💝💝💝💝💝 Also they STUFFED IT WITH LOTS OF MEATS INSIDE THEM😍 thank y'all!

We eat here about once a week. Their chips and salsa are awesome. The chips are tasty, thin and crisp. Their service is promt, food is consistently good, and prices are reasonable. We always enjoy. We did not always have good experiences at other locations.

I visited this location for the first time yesterday and it was a pleasant experience. Our server, Greg, was very friendly and attentive to his entire section and not just our table! Which is 20 times better than MOST restaurants in Mesquite!!!! The chips are tasty too! The food was fresh and hot! But speaking of heat im not sure if they were experiencing a/c problems or what but the restaurant was very warm. Other than that everything else was superb!

I have been going here since I was a kid. It is one of those places that you can take your family and know everyone will find something they want to eat. If you have room for dessert order the sopapilla's (with ice cream is good too 🤤). If you do not have time or your too full to have dessert there I recommend buying some of the pralines at the checkout counter. Just an fyi the pralines are a rich buttery caramel goodness, but very messy. Do not attempt to eat it in your car. 😭

El Fenix has consistently good food, and the Mesquite location has the best, most friendly service of all! Servers are always so friendly and nice. Their chips and salsa are legendary--that's why they sell them at the checkout. Enchilada special on Wednesdays comes out fast and hot. Always a treat to eat here!

I have been a regular at this location for about 30 years. The people get to know you and come visit and say hi even if they aren’t serving you. The food is never wrong or bad quality. They know what good service is and they never leave you hanging like most places in mesquite, wondering where the waiter or waitress is. Never the case here. The people that work here stay here you can get to know them and they care about their customers and the experience you are having. I only wish every place could be at this level of comfort and communication and family atmosphere. They deserve more then 5 stars. I came here with my grandparents when I was a kid so it’s more then just a good experience for me now that they are gone. I hope you find the same.

Let us not sleep on the old faithful. Ate here today, food was fresh my server he was an older Hispanic male, sorry didn’t get his name, but they know who he is. He came when it was necessary. The atmosphere is authentic and nice. The fajitas were seasoned. The $2 margaritas on Thursday are awesome. 5 stars easy for today.

I’ve been coming to El Fenix restaurants for more than 60 years, And I’ve always enjoyed coming here, this one’s in Mesquite, but I was mostly used to the one in Casa Linda and the one downtown Dallas! The atmosphere is always pleasant, the service is always good and I always enjoy the food! Tonight I ordered steak fajitas and they’re more than filling and tasty! I did ask for a side of pickled jalapeños, which added some heat to this dish! It’s nice to come to a place that’s consistently Great!

The food was very good and they accompanied me with curbside service and the young man that came to my car was precious. I will only visit this location because of their professional service and the kind respect they show their customers. Maria is A Queen in my books. The food was delicious! We ordered the combination steak and chicken fajitas, with corn and flour tortillas. The steak was well seasoned and tender. The chicken was full of flavor and moist with a chard smoky after taste. We shared an enormous amount of sautéed bell peppers and onions as well. Our server Amelia was extremely patient with our repeated requests for additional chips and salsa. No one can match the light and airy tortilla chips El Fenix provides with just the right amount of salt. We met the manager Maria who was making her rounds throughout the large restaurant ensuring everyone was enjoying their dinner and in this family-friendly atmosphere. Unfortunately, the HVAC system was not working and the facility was really warm and semi uncomfortable. But that didn't stop patrons from filling up to the point that all the background noise was laughter and good times! I highly recommend this place, especially on Enchilada Wednesdays.

Wow!!! Wow!!! Wow!!! This place is super great! I don't usually leave a review about the tortillas chips but this time... Yes! Very well done. The meal ingot was tortilla fajita. I oved it! The beans were very well done unlike other places where you feel like you're eating a bean shake, but here all the food was perfect, well cooked and flavor was so yummy! I highly recommend this restaurant. It's very well cleaned, tables, floors and it looks fantastic! It makes you feel you're not in Texas, but somewhere in Mexico! Great job!

They have a pilot pay service where now the server comes to your table with a card swipe device. You can now pay at the comfort of your own table! PLEASE READ my prior review below! Visit! Eat! Socialize! Went to lunch today with one of my coworkers, and boy, we had a great meal! Arrived right at lunchtime and we were immediately greeted by friendly waitresses and staff. The food was "Classic" El Fenix (which I love). I had the classic sour cream enchiladas with rice and beans. It's a staple of their menu. I have fond memories way back from childhood eating here with my parents. I can remember El Fenix as far back as seven or eight years old. That was over forty years ago! The location was clean, food was hot, and staff were awesome! It was the first visit EVER for my coworker (originally from Washington state), and he was impressed as well! Definitely recommend giving this location a visit.

My 1st time dining here. My friends & I enjoyed our server Natasha T. She is Friendly, bilingual, caring, not just our table but all those in her section. Very pleasant experience, food was well seasoned, sizzling hot, no issues to complain about. We will be back with more friends. Keep up the good work 👏

They serve high quality Mexican rice. Tortilla chips with guacamole is perfect. Big servings, food is gratifying, service is great and price is reasonable. Try their Chimichangas with chili con carne or queso.

Went for a family celebration with a party of 10. It was a Saturday night at 615pm. Not a lot of patrons inside when we arrived. The place was clean as usual with a friendly atmosphere. We have been to this location several times. This time the service rated only three stars. Our waiter was not the best. He kept disappearing and was therefore very inattentive to our needs. Our food was ordered and arrived in fair time. He forgot parts of the order. But corrected the situation. Our drinks kept going empty because our waiter was not around. We needed napkins but it took awhile waiting for our waiter to show up. Three of us ordered the puffy beef taco and it was not at its best flavor. So food only rated four stars because of this and a few other plated disappointments. Can't recommend it at this time for service or food. Maybe in a couple months we will try it again.

One of our old go-to restaurants, especially when we get together with friends or family. Great, dependable service, usually get us in without a wait. Menu is standard Mexican fare, not exotic, simple, with some variety. Good Margaritas and beer choices. Been there for many years and hope it will continue to be for many more.

One star less because of location traffic and highway construction. Their chips, salsa, queso dip, margaritas, and enchiladas are the best in DFW. This is the same for all their locations.

Excellent food and friendly staff. Their homemade chips are some of the best I've had. Highly recommend the Fajita Steak Burrito and the Spicy Brisket Enchiladas. If you want dessert, try a slide of the Lemon Ice Box Pie

Service at this restaurant was great! The server was very attentive and efficient. 2 other workers also checked on our table to ensure we were doing well and ask if we needed anything.

Well you know that since The Martinez Family sold the company "little munchkins" have changed the recipes for the chili con carne that goes on your cheese enchiladas. They have thinned it in both broth & meat! On top of that, if you buy a bowl of this said chili to go it is $21.00! I forgot to look at my reciept when we ordered it at the table. Thats Robbery! The Luna Tortilla Factory has been the sorce of their wonderful chips for eons, but when the machine breaks down we boycott the restaurant. So if there are no bags of chips up front we ask if the machine is broken. The salsa has remained the same. If you ever ate downtown on McKinney & Alfredo (Michael & Faustino's son) should happen to come sit at your table for a visit you were in for a treat. Sometimes he would share his picture book of old Dallas history, but when he walked away your waiter would bring you a complimentary lemon icebox pie. Our good old days are coming to a screeching halt. Old habits are hard to break though, so I'll be back for the cheese enchiladas & ice tea chips & salsa.

The food was great in fact spot on , service was super our hostess and waitress were super courteous food was brought in a timely manner but they could really improve on getting some hot salsa and sitting in the center area was hot not enough cool air circulating we were literally sweating even after asking the hostess we could've been told or allowed us to change tables to the back or front of the restaurant. But hey it was our first visit and we really did enjoy our dinner. To the El Fenix staff God Bless you guys. I have never witnessed a true hard working staff to assure their customers are satisfied. Loved the vibes and the warm welcome from the staff! The food looked better than it performed — kinda like a movie trailer that promises more than the film. Still, not a bad spot to check out.

Visited over the weekend after 10yrs and it seemed alot has changed. We were served w stale chips and salty salsa. I ordered chicken flautas and had to order side of rice, but before use to be served along side refried beans. The rice was cold and tasted like it was sitting for awhile. All in all the food cured my hunger but wont return.

Want to try the oldest Mexican Food Restaurant in the U.S.? Well maybe I should say the oldest Tex Mex - anyway it’s El Fenix! Not that the menu has stayed the same all these years, of course it’s been modified and updated … but my point is you can’t go wrong with El Fenix, if you wanna try Tex Mex as close to original 19th Century food recipes you need to come here. It’s interesting to note that the El Fenix reputation, famously brought 20th Century celebrities to Dallas to sample these then rare plates. Always crowded on a Sunday, The El Fenix restaurants cater to family dining and the church crowd. The setting is comfortable with only a touch of the facade. Most meals will be familiar to you - the complimentary chips and salsa, cheese enchiladas, a burrito for the kids - very familiar dishes, no big surprises like menudo soup…I don’t think. So many of my reviews shy away from the food itself which may seem counter intuitive to most readers, but I find that I usually focus on and recall - the dining experience. For example, todays lunch was with kin folk and Ill always look back on this lunch as “family time”, that’s what I’ll remember, not the fajitas. It’s who you spend time with. And in a restaurant, any restaurant you inherently want the host to “double click” that memory. El Fenix really is a part of culinary history and a history exclusive to Texas, you should try it. But I bet years from now when you reflect on your time here, it won’t be the enchiladas that spark your memory…it will be the important people that you spent time with that you’ll be thinking about.

Everyone has a bad night, but this is my 2nd and last time dealing with the Mesquite, TX location. Placed an order online,got there and was told our order wasn't ready. Waited for 15 minutes for the next person to come assist us, order had been there ready for pickup all of this time. I knew I should have check it, but we didn't. Got home all of our food for the Maximilian's Delight wasn't there, all we had was 2 enchiladas and some refried beans, which had bean asked to be replaced with charcoal beans. Called to get a refund on the order that was messed up, the manager kept treating me like I was from Door Dash. Finally got her to understand, we were not making another drive to pickup missing food, there will be no next time we'll be coming back, and to issue a refund for the full amount of the Maximilian's Delight and extra crispy taco, which was ordered and also not included in the order. I have to now wait and make sure we're refunded as promised. HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!

03.12.21 - Ordered 2 Chicken Fajita Plates with a Side of Chips & Queso... However when getting home this was the amount that had been served. When ordering an extra of Queso one would expect more than just half or less than half a cup. Somewhat disappointed with my experience but at least the food was good 😔

They were a little busy, but they were well-staffed so it seemed unnecessary to have waited as long as we did for simple things like napkins, refills, our food, etc... Unfortunately, the food wasn't any better than the service. ⭐⭐⭐ Sorry, El Fenix. Hopefully it'll be better next time. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Wow I’m very disappointed at the mesquite location. I’ve been a customer for over 10 years. I went in today and this location has changed the chips for the last 2 months and they didn’t have straws and served cold butter. And it smells moldy. I will not be returning to this location again 😞

No complaints with service. Food was ok. I ordered Pan Seared Fish Tacos and based on the description and how they looked I had high hopes , unfortunately the taste was not there. Fish was not seasoned enough. Sauce that accompanied it was more sweet tartar than creamy chipotle. Fajita combo was good steak was seasoned well and soft. Drinks (mango margarita and pina colada) we're ok, not special.

The food was pretty good. It took about 10 minutes before we were asked about drinks and another 20 for my wifes daiquiri, which was in a soda glass and full of ice clumps. The only complaint about the food is that the fajitas we ordered were served on a plate instead on a sizzling pan so cooled off pretty quick. The service is where the rating gets the 3 stars. Many employees were standing around talking, which is probably why it took 20 minutes for a daiquiri. The waitresses was nice but said all nut 3 words.

The food and service were spot on as usual. My only complaints is the sewage smell. I could hardly enjoy my food. I could smell it very strongly out back when I was parking and inside the restaurant, especially in the restroom. Just made the whole experience horrible. Couldn’t wait to pay and leave.

El Fenix has been around for a long time. An aunt of mine (long since deceased) loved going there more than any place. So our family was familiar with this restaurant. 30 years ago, the atmosphere was pretty classy and enjoyable. What I experienced this time, when I stopped there for lunch with my mother, was very different. There's nothing particularly wrong with it, but it's basically like every other restaurant now. The thing I noticed most, when I walked in, was how loud the music was. Even my mother, who is slightly hard of hearing, agreed that it was rather loud. The loud music, in turn, caused the customers to speak loudly at their tables, in order to hear each other. So, basically, the atmosphere was loud. I'm sure some people probably like that. I don't. Aside from that, the food was fine.

The food is just OK! Its’s not like it use to be.

My enchiladas were burnt on the inside and very chewy instead of being melty. Our server was also slow, impatient, and failed to bring us 2 simple things after we asked many times. Ice and lemons. Instead of writing down our order, she just listened to us. Then came back 3 times to make sure the order was said correctly. Disappointed

Generic, overpriced mexican food. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad, per se, but it's definitely nothing special. Just tastes like any other Mexican place. Service is great, though. One thing of note- not the best place to order take away from. Pretty much got black guac to go which has to be the most unappetizing thing lmao.

Assigned Waiter: ( White Older Male Black Mask) - ignored us chasing tips on table attending another’s empty tables or vacating customers to rush to pick up tips Then after asked what our drinks would be took a while to receive our drinks Served us wrong drinks when he returned Waited a long time to ask us what we wanted to order , then after ordering it took a long time to receive our food. Mind you my food was cold. When I received it. Then after my family and I was served the food but no Utensils to eat with we had to ask for it. I held my anger I let my family eat there food who was also disappointed I asked for a container to reheat me food at home. The waiter apologized multiple times and offered to make me another plate. I declined then he tried to give us sopaillas for comfort as an apology. I also, declined his offer old white male wearing a black mask. I didn’t come for a discount nor free food all I wanted was a hot plate of food I didn’t have cook my self. - I Just wanted to relax and enjoy family time I still tipped the waiter clean the mirror my son placed his hand on. His manager a Hispanic male acknowledged my anger because of the disappointment on my face. His manager still trying to give us sopapillas which that was a slap in the face instead of apologizing in person and acknowledging the issue. You knew he knew because they just don’t offer free food just because. Back to the waiter: Since the waiter was worried about money more than customer service I left him a big tip. I didn’t complain to the manager I swallowed my anger and left with my family while they were preparing free sopapillas. Not everyone wants free food or a discount I just wanted to be served with comfort and enjoyment with family, I paid in full and tipped when they didn’t deserve it. Now eating a cold meal and messy after I dropped it being angry. By accident El Fenix Staff in all needs to be fired and rehire someone who really wants to work. From the Young male and female hostess to the waiters Completely Unhappy Customer this location puts El Fenix to SHAME. Reporting to BBB and to the city health department after reading other reviews that has gone through what i went through they need to be shut down. Because of service and of improper Food handling I should reach out to others in review El Fenix making it a habit not an accident just pure laziness that can lead to food poisoning. My husband and I went for a visit last night and this will be my last. The service wasn’t terrible and the food actually didn’t taste bad, but after about the third nacho I began to feel very funny, by the time I made it home I threw up three times and I felt miserable and weak.I should’ve left when I kept hearing one of the workers coughing really bad inthe back. Please work on your sanitary issues. I’ve looked through the reviews and see that undercooked food has been one of you alls issues.

Do you mind sealing up your delivery orders? Getting a delivery order in an unsealed bag and the chips aren’t even sealed is ridiculous. Edited to add: the owner needs to stop telling people to use the link to submit a complaint, they do not respond. I decided to pickup my own order this evening. Even though they have curbside when you call they ask you to come inside. Instead of having a dedicated pickup line, you have to stand in a long line while other people order. The girl was bringing orders from the back but had nowhere to sit them, I thought to myself why don’t you see who is here to pickup their order and then you will have room to sit the new orders Einstein. The chips still are not in a sealed bag. I don’t know of any other restaurant that just gives an open bag of chips. On the Border seals their bag with a sticker why can’t you do the same. This place is a mess. I am going to find a local Mexican restaurant with good customer service and sanitary practices because El Fenix is not it!

Went on Mother’s Day with my mother-in-law and a party of five. The hostess tried to seat us at a table for four, and after finally getting a proper table, the service was awful. We waited forever for our server, had to ask another waiter (who never returned) for chips and salsa, and I eventually had to go into the kitchen myself. Our server barely checked on us, so we didn’t leave a tip. As we were leaving, the manager rudely confronted us about it, mentioning the server makes $2 an hour. Worst service I’ve ever experienced. We love El Fenix, but hate this location as we have never had good experience

The smell in this place was unbearable—I can’t imagine how anyone could sit there to work or eat. I couldn’t even eat my food; I lost my appetite, paid for my queso, and left. Never going back.

We went there on Saturday August 14 around 3pm to the Town East location for lunch there were about 6-8 tables occupied. It was slow no wait, the service was decent. I ordered my food then went to wash my hands and this is what I was greeted with. The ceiling was leaking everywhere from the employee kitchen entrance to the restroom. Absolutely deplorable and disgusting. Restaurant have had plenty of time during COVID-19 shut down to get their act together. The place need to be closed immediately. Business has dropped off tremendously anyway before the pandemic. I will not be returning … Sad , outdated and plain nasty. 🤮

Horrible first time experience with this El Fenix. My stomach is in a knot as I write this review and I don’t know if it’s because I’m grossed out knowing that I also ate some of this food or if I was served some raw chicken as well. We ordered take out from here and I ordered the chicken tender kid’s meal for my son. He was eating his tenders and fries and kept inspecting it and finally said there was something wrong with it. I looked over at his plate and to my disgust saw a raw chicken tender with a tendon hanging off the side. I told him to spit out what he had in his mouth but unfortunately he had already eaten almost two tenders before realizing something was wrong. I called the store and asked to speak to a manager, the manager offered to refund or replace the meal but it seemed as if it wasn’t a big deal to her. Also, they forgot to give us the drink for my son’s kids meal and over charged me for the queso that was quoted to me over the phone. My husband and I were too grossed out to continue eating our meals and instead had peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for dinner. Please check that your food is properly cooked before consuming anything from this restaurant.

I highly do not recommend this place 1)There was a hair in my enchilada dinner 2)The chips are no longer the same ones. They seem like they’re straight up from the store instead of the one that used to have. Very DISAPPOINTED

-10 stars, nasty. You would think with covid and all the hoops restaurants have to go through to be open that this would not happen. Obviously they are not cleaning. Went there for lunch yesterday..found a roach in my soup. We told the manager, he did not really seem to care. Thank God I look at my food before I eat. We left and will never go back there again. My husband has been a patron of this place for 14 years. 🤢🤢🤮🤮

I ordered a taco salad to go online. The beef on my taco salad was poorly cooked. It was pink. I didn’t have time to take it back because I was on my lunch break. I’ve ordered from this location many times but I won’t ever go back. I removed the meat from my salad and attempted to eat the taco shell, lettuce and pico but couldn’t do.

The people get 5 stars, they were very nice, But If you like flavorful food and spices, go else where. We sent the Guac back because it was absolutely flavorless and was made with hard unripe Avocado. The appetizer plate was.. over greasy and also unflavored. Not at all worth $16.00. Very dissapointing for some place with such high reviews. We were there for a total of about 25minutes ,most of which was discussing weather we should just leave or dare ordering an entree', clearly we left. .

The waitress was the only positive thing going. I ordered the appetizer with chicken nachos. The plate was warm, but the chicken on the nachos were not. The waitress came back apologizing, asking if I wanted them to redo my order. The manager came over asking what was wrong. I explained the chicken on the nachos was cool. He got agitated telling me no, they keep their chicken heated at 160°. If I needed proof I could come to the kitchen. No lie. I told the manager it appeared as if they took corn chips, put shredded chicken from the fridge, sprinkled shredded cheese over that and then popped it in the microwave. I tried showing him the water running off the chicken but he walked off saying they will just remake the nachos. You can tell it's not oil because the oil is beaded and not mixing with the water. The first and last time I will go there.

We added a cheese enchilada to our chicken enchilada dinner and they buried it in the same box. I had assumed it would come separately since it usually has a different sauce on it, but here we are 😩

Very inconsistent with food, you can taste how they are cutting corners to keep costs low. Make sure you get everything their menu tell you are supposed to get, every time i come here i have had to remind them that my usual order is supposed to come with a particular item, and they ALWAYS try to not give it to me. Also, menu prices do not match up with what they actually charge you for food, prices are going up while food quality and service go down

Why y'all change the chips! Disgusting! We were so excited about having lunch only to be given a nasty tasting chip. Mexican food should always be known by their chips. I passed on the queso appetizer because of that. The rest of your food great and service was great. Fix the chips, everyone was not happy about y'all's chips
