I absolutely adore this place! Every visit leaves me wanting more. As someone hailing from New Jersey, I can't help but wish for a branch to open back home. The restaurant is in a shopping center so I was a little skeptical at first. The inside is cute and there was nice music. But honestly I was amazed with the food. We ordered a few tiraditos, the house salad, a sushi roll and the salmon tartare. Everything had amazing flavor and the portion sizes were incredible. My husband and I have big appetites and we exercise so we always complain about portion sizes and such little protein. Here they give you generous amounts of salmon and tuna in every dish. Our waitress, Jennifer, was also super attentive, very pleasant, and made great recommendations. The only downside is that they only have sake, wine and beer but I ordered a white wine that was actually pretty good. Other than that I highly recommend this place. Delicious food :)

Excellent! My family and I went Wednesday, June 6 around 2:45pm and it was a great experience. Our server Diana is very knowledgeable of their menu and was willing to help. The chef Marcelo did an excellent job with the rolls - probably one of the best I have eaten. They customized my son’s plate for him to have noddles instead of rice. The restaurant has a good ambience and it is well decorated. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Kokai is always a great option if you are in the Doral area and are craving sushi. The house salad and tuna tartar are a must! Jenifer was our host, she was very friendly and made our dinner even more special. A win-win, I highly recommend this place for good food.

I picked this place to have a birthday dinner while I was in town after a cruise. I was hesitant at first when I read this was Latin/sushi fusion place to be honest but what a pleasant surprise this was! I absolutely recommend sweet plantain on top of shrimp tempura and seaweed salad as well as chocolate lava cake. Very chill environment, fabulous staff, and phenomenal quality. I will make this a must stop the next time I'm back in town!

We went as a spur of the moment. The rice cake app was AMAZING. 100% RECOMMEND. We also.had 3 rolls... Tsunami, Dragon, and Ebi) Ebi was the best although kids loved the Tsunami. Happy Hour drinks were nice surprise. Service was quick, helpful and great (he brought me my Sangria at happy hour time without a reminder). Would go back.

Have always been curious about Kokai since I frequent the small Taiwanese restaurant, Red Shallot, next door and decided to give them a try for lunch with my boyfriend. The ambiance of the restaurant is really unexpected and cozy, perfect for an intimate date night or a special occasion with family. Their menu offers plenty of traditional Japanese options and latin fusion dishes that were really unique to what other places are doing. We started with the Aderzo de Ajonjoli $16.50 as an appetizer which was PHENOMENAL and my favorite dish I ate there. Thin seared slices of tuna were served tataki style in their house sauce with black pepper in a stunning display with seaweed salad as the center of the plate. Alternating pieces of tuna had tiny droplets of sriracha and their house mustard (this is where the fusion comes in) which I was skeptical about tasting at first but once I did, I fell in love with the flavor profile! So unsuspecting! This dish is definitely big enough to have as a large meal in itself and was even a big appetizer for my boyfriend and I. The next roll we got to try was the Kioto $13.50: tuna, krabstick, and cream cheese topped with tuna, krabstick, white fish, shrimp and avocado. We loved this dish especially since it was alike to a rainbow roll which is a usual favorite for me! I don’t usually order rolls with cream cheese but they do it perfectly here but using very small limited amounts that don’t over power the fish you’re eating which I really appreciated! The last roll we tried was actually part of their lunch specials which is everyday during lunch hours for $10.99 and the choice of the chef daily. The day I went the lunch roll of the day was their Miami Chef (usually $16.25): shrimp tempura, chopped krabstick, scallions, and masago topped with krabstick and eel. It looked a little messy and essentially like a seafood salad on top but it was surely delicious and well worth the price for lunch! For dessert we had their leche condensado (condensed milk) cake that was so good that I still think about it sometimes and how I need to come back here just for that cake! Also, the fresh green tea they have is quality and definitely the ultimate hangover cure! I would definitely come back here; especially for a nice occasion!

Simply the best!!! I soon as I walked in I was approached by Diana who was my server! I can say every time I come here she makes me feel like family!!! She recommended the hibachi and a Yakisoba for my friend! There are no words to describe the food!!! Amazing is not enough! Its the freaking Best!! The chef Maria did it perfectly! Came all the way from Vegas to get this Sushi. The atmosphere, the music and the food is great. Every time I come Miami I will be visiting place. Treyma was a great server and made sure we were well taken care of.

Was in the area, and as I often do, search G.Maps to see what's good in this "hood". Kokai had the most positive reviews so without hesitation I hit start on the directions. Actually got there just as they were opening. So got a great look at the place before anyone was seated. By the time my first appetizer arrived and the Iced Green Tea, the place was already showing signs of a lunch buzz (and it was only 12:15 pm). Shrimp shumai was good as expected, with a twist of hot mustard on the plate. The edamame came out steaming hot with the right amount of sea salt. And my 🍣 sushi was above expectation on presentation, flavors and portion. Overall great experience. Just a note... a lot, and I mean 95% of the sushi rolls have cream cheese in the ingredients. I asked them to swap that out for avocado 🥑 in my roll. No problem for a $1 fee (which I don't even think they charged me). It was just a bit surprising that I had to search for the 2 or 3 rolls that didn't have it and just ended up substituting it. Was very happy that it was an easy thing to ask for. Will go back to try some of their unique fusion sushi with madura, as well as the latin-esque flavors. You will do a double-take as you hear a steady flow of beautiful Español in an Asian restaurant. But so goes the wonderful spectrum of our human experience. I stopped looking for "Authentic" Japanese, or anything ethnic with an original "face" in the kitchen decades ago. The food here was great! Good portions as well. My sister and I had 2 giant hand rolls, steamed gyoza, and 2 sushi rolls. I also had a Sprite, and we spent $80 for the meal. The only thing was the service was weird. The waiter was very helpful beforehand, and then after the food came, he never returned. We finished our food and had to call them over to give us the check because no one came back even after picking up our meal. Other than that, it was pretty good, and we will return.

This was an excellent find! We wanted to try a new place for Sushi Rolls and chose this based on reviews. I made a reservation but it wasn't needed as there were tables available for a Saturday dinner. The service was great, the food was delicious and fresh, and the place is inviting and cozy. The one thing I wish I knew was that their rolls are on the large size so we over ordered. But now I know for the next time. I think that any of the rolls we got could be split with 2 people. We had Miso soups, edamame, and steamed gyozas for appetizers. The Kani kyuri maki, crab meat rolled in cucumber which many people may know it as Kanisu roll, was delicious. Rainbow, Dynamite Deluxe, Viñedo rolls were also fantastic. And the Fire Roll was spectacular! Definitely one to order again! We also got a Madre E Hijo Temaki and it was very tasty. I'm glad I found this place and will add it to our rotation.

In particular, whenever I go to a place, one of the first things I evaluate is the service, how they make the customer feel comfortable, this place provides excellent service. Regarding the food, you get a very good variety of rolls that you don't usually get, but nevertheless I feel that it lacks a spatial touch in the flavors. i really love sushi 🤤

This restaurant has a beautiful touch and very clean. The staff is friendly. The food was just so-so. I found the sushi of different varieties to taste almost the same. And one of my sushi roll did not taste good but kept wondering why and realized that the seaweed in that roll was giving it an awful taste so I took the sushi apart to throw out the seaweed. Also if you order a bottle of San Pellegrino, just know that it is almost the size of the Kikkoman soy bottle.

Place is good, it has a very big menu. The banana appetizer roll was the highlight of the day. Be aware that GRATUITY IS INCLUDED, and at the end of the payment process in the electronic device, it asks for tip 🤔 I HATE WHEN THE GRATUITY IS INCLUDED AND THEY DONT TELL YOU ANYWHERE. THIS SHOULD SHOW ON THE MENU. Service was blah, so Im not coming back for sure. Note: My party was only 2, so I guess the server decided to include the tip himself!!!

As a sushi lover & worldwide tastings the sushi in this hidden gem was spectacular. Super fresh & flavorful. The soup was excellent. The stars are 2 because waiter at first took a longer than reasonable time to assist, was nowhere around after the sushi was brought, drinks were finished & no one would look. Finally when waiter came out the chef saw me waiving & i could not finish my roll because we had drank all the drink & water. It was late & place was not that full, wish i could have enjoyed such awesome sushi. I told the waiter kindly and he offered a free coke, but by then we just wanted to take the rest home.

This place shouldn’t be allowed to say that it offers sushi. The food is awful. If you’re looking for authentic Japanese, stay far away. Cream cheese on everything. Overwhelming sauce on everything. Toppings that make no sense. You can’t even taste the fish. Although, that may be a good thing because it isn’t really fresh anyway. Visit if you like completely misinterpreted “fusion” sushi.

My family have been a loyal customer of the restaurant for years. Since I started using the online ordering system it’s been a horrible experience. The Sauce app they use is not reliable and not user friendly. One time the delivery left my order in a completely different house and didn’t bothered to contact me. Another time we tried to used the 10% off of online order coupon and there’s no place in the website to apply the coupon when I called the restaurant I spoke with a third party customer service and all they could say was that they contacted the restaurant and that they coupon was expired. When I picked up my order they gave me another one of the coupons even though there’s no way to use it. Got Home and my order was missing items. Tried calling the restaurant and they didn’t picked up because it said they were closed. When my husband arrived there after driving another 30 minutes and the manager basically told my husband that he was lying and that they did gave us the missing roll. Like if we need to drive 30 minutes for an 11 dollar roll. The entire staff is incompetent, the manager that was on call didn’t know how to handle the situation and because of her actions the restaurant lost a very loyal client. we will stop going to Kokai and tell all our family that started going because of us to stop also. Such a shame.

Worse sushi i ever had. We are big sushi fans order at least two times a week from our favorite restaurants. Tonight they were not receiving order via uber eats so we decided to try this restaurant. First of all $95 for 3 rolls and appetizer overpriced the rolls were bland and no flavor one of them was just rice and shrimp amd the other two were horrible.

The staff was lovely but the food truly was not good. My order: chirashi and hot green tea. It’s not often I post a negative review, but I think the food is deserving for the following reasons: 1) the raw fish was lukewarm- which makes me concerned for food safety. 2) the ikura had an unpleasant fishy odour , so I did nit even try it (there should be no odour) 3) the eel was cold and had minimal sauce 4) water (assuming thawed frozen fish) was dripping from some of the fish. All of this for an eye-blistering $32. Also the entire menu was way over priced. ($7 for miso soup are you kidding?) Service was fine, however. I would not recommend, and I definitely will not be back.
