Opinions de Sol Food Puerto Rican Mill Valley
I just ordered my food to go. I did not sit inside. I started eating before remembering to take a photo 🫢. I had the bistec (couldn't finish the full sandwich, too big to eat in one sitting), a coconut drink, and coconut flan (didn't like it, which i had gotten the regular flan but was curious to try the coconut flan. The staff was super friendly. The atmosphere was light and friendly and everyone was having a good time enjoying their food. Parking will be a challenge. I parked a couple of blocks over but I didn't mind the walk since I was along the water so I got to sit in my car and eat overlooking the water. The store is next to a plant shop. So rather than posting photos of half eaten food, I took a video of the running river I ate my lunch by, and a photo of a flower for you to enjoy in place of the food I enjoyed.
Coming from a Puerto Rican background and having tasted PR food from home, NY and PR…I can tell you the food is absolutely amazing! I was born and raised in NY and exposed to many Latin restaurants. I very much enjoyed the food and the perfect sized portions. Food was tasteful. Honestly, the restaurant provided the typical sauces, but no need to use them as the food was perfectly tender and seasoned, and SO FRESH! Good job, SOL!
classic marin staple. the bistec sandwich is the go-to but the chicken dishes are excellent. sides are amazing. beans. can’t forget the limeade. oh and that hot sauce is literally the best.
This was my first time at this little Puerto Rican spot, and the food was outstanding. Great flavor, and I will definitely go back next time I’m in town. The staff was also fantastic—friendly people. I really loved it.
My daughter in law recommended we go to Sol when she found out we were vaccinating in Mill Valley. I read the reviews some were super positive and others very negative which made me want to go check it out myself. The food was delicious! We've been in town for a couple of days and eaten a few places and this was the best food at the most reasonable prices. We got more food than 2 of us could eat for around $45. The tostones with cheese and avocados are so yummy. The steak combo meal (half size) is what I ordered and it was more than I could eat. My husband ordered the salad and also had leftovers. I recommend buying a bottle of the salad dressing. It's lemon/garlic and amazing! The service was great. The atmosphere not so good. We did manage to get a seat at the little bar but this is a mostly to-go place. I definitely recommend you go to Sol and give it a try.
Incredible food - just a heads up, this location is primarily to go, although they have a counter you can sit and eat at. Food is authentic and FULL of flavor. Their homage mojo/chili sauce is incredible and worth the visit by itself. I always make sure to hit Sol Food anytime I’m anywhere close.
Sol Food is a must-stop if you're even remotely close. The food is amazing, the atmosphere is electric, and the staff are excellent. You can't go wrong with anything on the extensive menu, and their Pique hot sauce makes literally any food even better. If you haven't been yet, go. And if you have, see you there again soon! :)
Delicious Puerto Rican food. Nice vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options on the menu. The salad dressing is amazing - perfect garlic, lemon, oil combo. The spicy vinegar sauce is so good The combo plates are smaller than I thought- get the large for a meal. My hubby was annoyed that the avocado was sliced but still had the peel on in his salad. This shop is for takeout, nowhere to sit. There are no sugar free cold drinks. Meal tasted fresh and was made quickly. Plenty of parking. The online menu is confusing for sides because the description says to choose between plantains or fries, but the choices are 4 local words. If you want fries you have to choose pepitas. If you want half green plantains and half regular, choose the 1/1. Overall, I'll be back.
Walking in, I was bummed to discover there was no seating. We were looking for a place to relax, so we decided to go elsewhere. The next day we agreed to try it out as we were looking to get food to take home. I was very impressed! The rice & beans were on point. And the pique…. as authentic as it could be🔥 Purchased a bottle to take back home. Great food! They do have another location that offers inside seating. Much props on the system you created for take-out. Great concept.
Bad Bunny pulled up and then I pulled up. The bistec sandwich and plantain chips are fuego, sabroso. Now, you should pull up.

I'm a fan of Sol's in general. Great place to pick up great food. I like this location more than the OG spot. I enjoy the Pernil the most along with the plantains and the lemon and garlic sauce with …

Primarily takeout location. The food and service are great! Very glad I stopped by!!!
Great food and service. Good prices, homey vibes. Ordering for pick up is a good move.

This place is still really solid and has the best...Cubano...ever! And super efficient...much shorter wait than the one in San Rafael.
I've been here several times as well their other site in San Rafael, but this one is very convenient to So Marin. Tons of parking, right near a liquor store and across Miller Ave from Whole Foods. …
Delicious food, great atmosphere, comfortable prices and excellent customer service. The pique is a wonderful surprise!
Love their chicken and rice! Salad and hot sauce also really good and the kids love the limeaide

They still offer an excellent steak sandwich. Other than that there isn't a enough to stay passionate on the menu, or, for décor in or around this tiny shop. "About a girl" is it's vibe.
Tasty food, friendly service, clean atmosphere. We got the Cubano, the Steak and Onion Bistec, rotisserie chicken, side salad, cilantro lime mayo, fries, and the pico hot sauce. The food was all great. We mixed the pico hot sauce with the cilantro lime mayo for dipping the fries into and dunking our sandwiches. The service was friendly and fast. The staff seemed to be smiling and happy. The whole house seemed to run like a well oiled machine. Ladies in teh front were knokcing out in person and online orders while the guys in the back were cooking and cleaning up a storm. The decor was nice and the place was clean. No seating at this location, but there is seating at their other locations.
Got the Paraíso sandwich that was really tasty. The sauce and plantains weren't evenly distributed within the sandwich. I think because it was takeout it made the eating experience less than optimal. Would be interested in going to the locations with dine in next time. A little on the pricy side for takeout only but the portions are pretty large and everything tastes fresh.
Sol Food is a well known Puerto Rican restaurant chain in the North Bay Area and came well recommended. This location is a convenient stop on your way to Mill Valley but heads up it’s only takeout, there is no seating inside or outside. We ordered some of the popular options including the bistec sandwich and the pollo combo meal. The steak sandwich was good especially the meat, but overall was a little too greasy for me. The chicken combo was the healthier option though the rice, beans and salad tasted a little plain to me. You have to use lots of their delicious hot sauce to get some flavor out.
Delicious but too greasy. I got a sandwich with the plantain bun gluten free option and it was dripping with grease making it quite difficult to eat. Delicious but perhaps they could make it with less oil. The shop is decorated nicely, there’s a bathroom, and they are nice.

Teeny Tiny, mostly take-out as there are only 8 seats at a counter. Sadly landlord won't allow then to put any tables or chairs outside. Massive menu, limited beverages and nothing you would be famil…
I don’t understand the hype. The rice was very solid and the beans were tasty. But the way they cook their beef is honestly a disgrace to the cow, a lean cut cooked beyond well done. I have to imagine there are better options around - that I’m guessing won’t have a line out the door either.
The food was great! It’s a little expensive but you get big portions and it’s very unique. The service was a bit bizarre though. It seems like they really don’t want you to dine in. They had all our food in to go containers and bags with missing utensils even when we said we would be eating inside. It was also pretty hard to get people’s attention to ask basic questions. But it’s an easy fix. If you order here, just grab the food and go!
Service was spot on! Very friendly. Unfortunately my sandwich wasn’t what I was expecting. It was fine however I think it would have been a lot nicer if it wasn’t just deli meats. Effectively it was just a ham and cheese grilled toasties, I was hoping the meat would have been home cooked like the rice and beans.
TLDR: this location is takeout only and the food was just ok I have come to sol food before but in San Rafael so when we stopped by this location, we were deceived because the pictures show dining area but there isn’t any, it’s only togo. We ordered the mofongo and it was pretty dry. The sandwich we ordered was the best part but a bit too much sauce made it a bit salty. The drink was refreshing but a bit sweet

Food is delicious here, however it's ridiculously overpriced. Most families can't afford this
Not for me. This was my first time trying Puerto Rican food, but it wasn’t quite for me. I ordered the Bistec sandwich and the rotisserie Chicken combo. They forgot to include the utensils I requested, which made it very inconvenient to eat. If you’ve ever had a sandwich from Little Lucca, you will be very disappointed with the sandwich here. The fried chicken tasted very similar to Costco chicken, so it was okay but nothing special. The staff was friendly, but I don’t think I’ll be coming back.
It's been mentioned already, but takeout only! (Have to let the algorithm know) Food is average at best? A lot of decent individual components that aren't meshed together well. The fact that everything is in separate containers doesn't help them out. I also struggle to see the Puerto Rican influence. It's a nice meal for the money you pay (especially around the bay), but I would pass on a second visit.
Poor quality service and the meat was dry and tasted awful. I tried their chicken and beef and both were the lowest quality but they charge as if they're serving quality ( it's not and I worked in …
No place to sit, no place to wait, and felt unwanted the whole time while ordering. Had staff ask me to move while looking at a menu, watched multiple people walk up expecting them to have dine in.…

I’ve been a longtime fan of Sol Food in San Rafael—the food there is consistently excellent. However, the Mill Valley location has been a major disappointment. In our last three visits, they’ve messed up our pickup order every single time. That’s not bad luck—that’s a pattern of carelessness. We drive over an hour to get to this location, and after yet another frustrating experience, we’ve likely made our last trip. If you want the real Sol Food experience, skip this spot and head to one of their other locations. To make matters worse, management resisted issuing a refund for an item they failed to include in our order. Hopefully, they’ll do the right thing and refund what we paid for but never received. When you’re charging $28 for a half chicken meal, the least you can do is double-check the order.
