Had a great time, wonderful food at a gorgeous place! The food was beautiful and the drinks were beautiful as well loved the sausage platter and the beef tartare honestly might be the star of the night if I may say! Our main dishes and side dishes were wonderful but was a bit salty for me. The server was nice but it felt somewhat not fully organized here and there but again still had a great time and didn't affect the night. I will say the food quality was wonderful and fresh and all the meats were super tender and juicy!! So highly recommend!
Fantastic smoked meats and sausages! We’ve been here many times and always enjoy the sausage platter. The sausages are huge, flavorful, and each one comes paired with a great side dish, like elote. The servers were also incredibly friendly with our baby—when we asked for a spoon, they brought out several options without hesitation. There’s plenty of street parking nearby, and they also offer valet.
Yum!!! If you are a lover of smoked meats order the pork chop. It was absolutely incredible. We had a hot link sausage as an appetizer but would come back to do a sampler as a meal because it was so delicious. I'm not usually a fan of beans but these were the best I've had. We had great service and enjoyed the atmosphere. It was our first time here but will be going back again.
The Butcher and the Boar has now been twice a memorable experience in my life. It was the site of the first dinner I had in a group called TimeLeft which changed my life at a very traumatic time. Some time later, Valentines Day 2026, it was the site for my proposal to my fiancée. One of the managers there, Jackie, was nice enough to find us seating when none was available. She made it possible for me to propose and made our night magical! The cuisine was delicious and the service extraordinary! I hope to return here many years to come and relive the experience. I highly recommend this place to others. Cheers!
Moving reviews from Yelp. Originally published 10/22/16 and I'm guessing they relocated to this address since I visited last. One of the best meals I've had this year, without a doubt! I came here with some co-workers and the boss for dinner. We didn't have a reservation but we did arrive early enough (1730) that we scored 6 seats around the corner of the bar. In the 15-20 minutes between our arrival and when the rest of the group showed up we probably had a dozen parties try to snare the empty bar stools. By the time we ordered dinner the standing-room only crowd at the bar was about 3-deep. This place has a ton of great reviews so I'm just going to call out a couple of items since the portions were huge and I got a bite or two of a few different things: + Three sausage sampler could have been dinner for two people if you added a side dish. All were delicious but my favorite was the one with cheddar inside. Not flecks of cheddar, whole chunks. Yum! + Wedge salad is different than I've had other places. Picture a small head of lettuce, cut into quarters. Add some creamy and flavor-packed bleu cheese crumbles, a house-made creamy dressing and chunks of thick-cut bacon as large as a woman's little finger. The bacon is smoky, slightly charred and cooked to that point right between floppy and crispy such that the flavor is fully developed. Wow! + Beef rib...yes, it's just one to an order but it had about 17 ounces of meat on it. Cooked perfectly tender, almost along the lines of pot roast, very flavorful and juicy. + Pork chop - this dish won the night! I have never had a smoked pork chop so tender and juicy. I loved the piggy flavor combined with the slight smokiness and the sweetness of the sauce. I may well have ordered the least expensive entree at the table when I selected their fresh catch of the day. It was two pan-fried fillets of Mediterranean Sea Bass atop a corn hash for $35. Served skin-side up to showcase how crispy and light the skin became as it seared, it was very good but slightly overcooked. Without a doubt this was the very best meal I've ever consumed while sitting at a bar.
Food, atmosphere, service all amazing! Definitely the place for a meat eater! Portions are large family style. Between 3 guys we got the Pork Chop and the Beef Rib along with 2 sides, mashed potatoes and green beans, and it was plenty of food for the 3 of us.
Took a cocktail class here and it was SO worth the money!! The food and drinks were out of this world! The staff were incredibly kind and friendly. Tammy, Ethan and Kyle were amazing!! Will definitely do this again in the future. :)
Dinner and atmosphere was amazing. Food was delicious and drinks were good also. Our waitress seemed to forget about us here and there as we had to wave her down instead of being waited on which was frustrating however it didn't impact my feelings on the lovely dinner. Would recommend.
This is my first time in Minneapolis and this restaurant definitely one of the highlights. Sat outside and the weather was nice. The restaurant was located in a nice neighborhood, very cozy. The steak tartar is out of this world. The cold smoked beef gave the tartar a great layer of depth and great flavor. The smoked pork belly is absolutely a must have. Also smoked, the outside is super crispy and the inside is super moist and tender. It's pork belly but it wasn't greasy. The beef long rib was amazing as well and visually impressive. Absolutely delicious! The stuff were super friendly and the music was great. If I have to complain the only complaint I'd have is how the beer was served in a plastic glass lol. And the chairs outside can be more comfortable, add cushions maybe? And more recline so people can lay back
The food is incredible and the service was even better. Naseem knows the menu inside and out and was able to provide me plenty of gluten free options. Everything we had taste better than the next. Do not miss this spot. Definitely a must Minneapolis dining experience! Don't sleep on them grits, the best I've ever had!
I travel around the country exploring restaurants of all types ,last night this stop was definitely i will never forget ..the wait staff needs some training but the chefs are on point. Thank you for an incredible evening ❤️
Not the kind of place you go to all the time, unless you have plenty of disposable income 🙂 we loved absolutely everything. We sat at the bar and our bartenders/ the server was excellent.
First time at B&B and it far exceeded our expectations. Ricky is the best! He was attentive, accommodating, prompt, and went above and beyond in every way. The food was amazing, the drinks were great, but Ricky is the reason we will be back again soon! Thanks for a great date night!!
My husband and I were trying to find a place to eat. We canceled our reservations to eat at this restraunt and we had no regrets. The food was amazing and Kenneth the server was great!! I highly recommend if your ever in the Minneapolis area stop in and dine. The prices and food are decent. It is definitely worth it!!!!
I had the absolute best experience at Butcher & The Boar during a recent business dinner. I don’t drink alcohol but was really craving something sparkling. The non-alcoholic menu didn’t have sparkling options, so I asked if the bar could create something custom. What happened next blew me away. The waitress returned with the most delicious, perfectly balanced sparkling mocktail I’ve ever had. I loved it so much I immediately ordered a second. When she came back to check on us, I asked if there was a way to order the drink again on future visits. We laughed about naming it, and I suggested calling it “The Butcher’s Wife.” She loved the idea, and not long after, the bartender came to our table to check in personally. Right before we left, he surprised me with a handwritten card saying they’d added The Butcher’s Wife to their list of mocktails. It was one of the sweetest, most thoughtful touches I’ve ever experienced in a restaurant. My entire table was blown away. Beyond that, the service was phenomenal, the staff was warm and attentive, and the food was absolutely out of this world — the pork chop especially was unforgettable. From start to finish, the evening was exceptional. If you want incredible food, outstanding hospitality, and a place that goes above and beyond to make you feel valued, Butcher & The Boar is it. I cannot recommend it enough.
We were in town for a long weekend and were able to get a reservation last minute here. We arrived early and grabbed a drink at the bar before we sat. I had a delicious lemon drop martini and the beer menu was very good. The service was perfect and restaurant was beautiful! The food took a little long but once it arrived we could see why and we were very pleased with the outcome! The roast chicken was maybe the best I’ve ever had. They had a great menu with a lot of choices. We shared grilled sourdough, cucumber tomato salad, leeks and onion gratin and the chicken. 10/10
Amazing food, great atmosphere and service from Kenneth I believe and he was great!!! Beautiful Restaurant, probably top 3 I’ve experienced in the state. There’s not enough I can say about the rib even the left overs were amazing. Like butter. So much flavor in everything. Just fantastic.
I loved everything I had. I replaced the blue cheese dressing for ranch, and it was amazing. It was crisp and fresh and had a great balance with all of the flavors. The tri-tip was so tender and the chimichurri was SO flavorful. The flourless chocolate cake was good. It wasn’t too dense and the cream added a really good addition to each bite.
Tammy, Ethan, and Kyle (from Exclesior) took care of us in stellar fashion at the Char Bar in back. Will return! Thanks team for a great experience.
Went for a 40th birthday celebration with friends. We went during happy hour on a Tuesday. Drinks were good and house wine was perfectly priced for HH. Not a lot on the HH menu, but we enjoyed the cheddar sausage, the charcuterie (meat focused) and blue crab beignets. All was delicious! We had one issue with a menu item and they were quick to offer excellent customer service. The staff were present when you needed something but also let you enjoy your meal. They went above and beyond making my friend a special birthday drink. Everyone was very kind and knowledgeable. We had a great time! Parking was easy on the street (meter with twins parking price) but they also had valet.
Stumbled upon this spot while on a national tour and was pleasantly surprised. This is a good restaurant in Minnesota! The food was delicious and the decor and atmosphere are well thought out. Cocktails and mixed drinks are expertly crafted by the bartenders! The prices are surprisingly high, but the overall product and experience is solid. My party ordered a beer and three cocktails, one short rib ($85), two sides and an appetizer and the bill was $221 before tip. It was a really good meal, but it was much pricier than I expected to pay. Maybe one should save this spot for very special occasions! With that being said, this is still a good spot and a great addition to the culinary scene in Minneapolis. Check out the speakeasy in the back!
Overall a good experience. Quite possibly the best ribeye we have ever had. The cognac cream sauce would have been good on anything! Green chorizo sausage was very flavorful. Didn't care for the sauce on the Mac and cheese; a gluey consistency. Liked the creative cocktails. There is a 22% service charge. Up front they give you a card describing what it's for. No requirement for gratuity on top of that.
A lovely night of delicious drinks and great food! The market price for the rib was $89 so we opted for the tri tip with chimichurri and we were happy with the decision. I kind of wonder if the MP changes for the rib on weekdays because I’d love to go back and try it. I’d also recommend the chicken salad if you don’t want something so heavy. Great amounts of protein and healthy amounts of good greens! We got the ranch dressing on the side. Our server was great. Host stand is stressful and busy, but hopefully generally friendly. Apricot sidecar was delightful and the Medicina was smooth! 🩷
To start, we had EXCELLENT service from our server Ricky and other staff in the Char Bar! He made every moment perfect from start to finish. We stumbled upon the last round of the Sunday evening meat raffle and our friend Cece took home the beef long rib. Super fun touch to dinner. Drinks were all superb, a crowd favorite being the espresso martini served in the cutest mix of eclectic tea cups. The bourbon selection was top notch and well poured. The charcuterie board and pimento cheese dip were great options for sharing. Don’t skip the blue crab beignets - literally one of the best things I’ve eaten in my lifetime. We also ordered a few items from the Char Bar menu since we dined in that area. The footlong hotdog was so fun and the Butcher burger was tasty and budget-friendly. We had one of each dessert and loved them all. The hummingbird cake and flourless chocolate torte was my personal favorites. Our group had the best food, unparalleled service and a very memorable time. We will definitely be back! To Ricky and staff - we hope the nerds were to your liking and helped speed up any sidework you had post shift! 😆 Your fellow industry friends appreciate you and all you do to provide great service!
Never got to go here when they had their location in downtown, but glad we could make it now. My partner and I made a dinner reservation for a Saturday date night and loved the food. The servings were generous, food was very tasty & all very complementary. Drinks were cold & refreshing, too. We had the: - Blue Crab Beignets - 5⭐️ - these were recommended by our server and they were INCREDIBLE, especially with the sauce! You get 8 per order. - Baby Lettuces - 5⭐️ - surprisingly very refreshing, but very large serving! Enough for 2. The pickled carrots were a really nice touch. - Smoked Tri-Tip - 5⭐️ - great! Perfectly cooked, so much flavor in each bite. Wish it had more chimichurri though! - for sides, we got the Sour Cream Chive Mash 5⭐️ and the Grilled Asparagus 5⭐️ Definitely want to come back for their lunch & HH menus!
Soooo glad I found this place! Came here for the first time and ordered the steak and asparagus. The waitress was very attentive and helpful. The food arrived fairly prompt and was absolutely amazing!! 5-star meal! I would highly recommend. Everything was exquisite. I would definitely return! 10/10.
We had a party of 6, and we all agreed the dinner was wonderful. Our server Jackie (sp?) was absolutely a pro, she knew the menu and had lots of recommendations (and not the high dollar items) and she was great at every turn. Occasionally we were looking for her and couldn't find her but that was more about us thinking "hey we want to talk to her about something now" vs her needing to serve her other tables, so no real complaint here. To those other reviews who have said the food was bland, either they listened to you and stepped the flavor up or there is something wrong with your tastebuds. Our party had the sides of Brussel Sprouts, Beef Mac and Cheese, Dirty Rice, Grits, and Cornbread and all of them were great. Entrees were Pork Belly, Salmon, Charred Chicken, and Blackened Mahi Mahi. Everyone raved that their dish was wonderful, though everyone other than the Salmon orders had leftovers to take home. My Pork Belly tasted great, but the top surface was seared to the point that I thought it was bone at first. If I had an improvement to suggest it would be to slow down the cooking on the Pork Belly. That said, the rest of the food was SO good! Yes, the prices are high but they have made sure you get the best possible service and some dang good food. If you can afford it, you should go here because you will love what they do. Edit: We parked ourselves without the valet and did not get charged. I saw other reviews that said they got charged even if they parked themselves, so I wanted to say we did not have that experience. Their parking lot is expansive, it was so much better than other downtown restaurants!
The service and the atmosphere was Excellent! I didn't want to leave. Music was perfect 70s 80s. The menu had lots of choices. They were out of baked oysters appetizer at 530p... so they probably couldn't procure them to their standards. Pork chop was enough for four people! Long tart for dessert was served cold.. -It was good but they should warm it a little. Server was very nice and attentive. Best for a party of four or more with all the sides choices. We will come again!
Exceptional experience. We held a business dinner at Butcher & The Boar and were delighted with the evening. Classic cocktails, exceptional service and delicious food. Highly recommend!
Mac and Hunter were fantastic. Mac made us a custom cocktail when we asked about one of the vodkas on the drink list that was amazing. And Hunter was wonderfully accommodating. The food was also delicious, I highly recommend the mahi mahi with the side of dirty rice. We will be coming back more often in the future when the mood to go to a nicer place strikes us.
The food was fantastic! The sausage sampler was delicious, the the smoked tri-tip was tender and flavorful, the grits were so creamy. Everything we had from the drinks to the dessert was delicious! Our server Kimia was great. She gave us great service and offered us great suggestions. We will be back!
Went as a business group on a quiet Sunday night. Everyone was very attentive to our needs, drinks were good(a bit spendy though). Bacon appetizer was great as was my hangar steak. Especially want to so a shout out to our server Kimia. She was very personable and great on recommendation's(dirty rice and brussels sprouts!
This place is crazy good! We arrived early for our reservation and asked if we could be seated in the bar booth instead of the main dining area (more our vibe). The hostess was so friendly and accommodating; showed us to our table, then asked if we wanted to see the speakeasy - of course we did! So we walked back to the back to the Char Room. Wasn’t your typical speakeasy as it is open, but with dark woods and lovely smoky smell from smoking their bourbons. On the food! We started with fire roasted oysters with a thick farm bread to ensure none of the butter escaped and then the grilled shrimp. Both were insanely yummy. Only thing wrong with the oysters is there was only four and the shrimp need a new name that describes them better as having an amazing chilled flavor with a spicy white sauce. Sam, our server, recommended the shrimp which we had to thank him for -amazing! He also suggested one of the specials, the top sirloin and added that the spicy white sauce from the shrimp would pair with the steak nicely. It certainly did not disappoint! The top sirloin was perfectly cooked, mouth watering and melted in our mouths. As a side, we got the green beans which were sautéed in garlic bacon and a light cream sauce which we could’ve used for bread dipping but we were so full! For dessert (the liquid kind), we sipped on a 2oz pour of the Old Fitzgerald bourbon 7yr Bottled in Bond. All the wait staff were so attentive and friendly. Sam was awesome, from his sense of humor to his recommendations, all superb. This is a place simply can’t wait to come back to!!
We had been wanting to try this place for a long time and finally made it happen, and everything exceeded our expectations!! We tried several menu items and each one was so amazing! The entire experience was made so much better by our friendly, knowledgeable, and personable waitress, Kimia. Good food can be found many places, but people who make your dining experience better is rare!!
Me and my girl celebrated our engagement here with some friends and had an amazing time. Naseem served us and made the ordering process so seamless. She’s the best! Great market prices and the food was amazing. Underrated side was the grits … 10/10 delicious.
Butcher and the Boar definitely lived up to it's expectations! The restaurant looked absolutely spectacular both inside and out. The ambiance was fantastic and lively especially out in the main dining area. However, if that was too much for you, there certainly seem to be adequate seating in more private spaces. The service was as expected. Fantastic! Our waitress was attentive, thorough and very considerate. Food did not take long at all to come out. Our table of six each ordered our own meals along with a few appetizers and four sides to share and believe it or not there were leftovers for those sides. The food itself was on point at least for me. There were a couple of individuals at our table who thought that their dishes were a tad bit spicy. This was specifically in reference to the sweet glaze on the salmon and the pork belly dish. I could tell that the glaze on the salmon though sweet did have a tiny bit of heat but could not taste it in the pork belly dish. The tri-tip was absolutely amazing, this is coming from someone who routinely smokes tri-tip at home. I had asked for mine to be cooked to a medium rare which it was, but I think the difference Maker for me was the amazing sear and crust on the outside. I was blown away at the overall flavor. The chimichurri even though it looked to be piled on top of the meat did not actually detract from how well it tasted. I was able to try each of the dishes that our table had, which included the pork belly dish, the beef rib and some of the salmon and everything tasted wonderful. The sides are table ordered where the mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, grits and brussel sprouts. That was a really big fan of the brussel sprouts and grits, the mac and cheese and mashed potatoes were okay. The potatoes probably could have been a bit warmer to make it easier to melt the butter in it. I think one of the highlights of this night was the Northern Thai sausage which came on a delicious bed of vermicelli noodle slaw that tasted amazing. This was ordered as an appetizer for us. The flavors of this dish were absolutely reminiscent of other authentic Thai dishes I've had, citrusy, herby, with some heat. I could eat this over and over again! Other appetizers we ordered at our table were the Blue Crab Fritters and Hot Link Croquettes. I always get a bit skeptic regarding Blue Crab dishes because sometimes it can taste a lot more fishy that what I would like, which I know is a bit odd. Biting into the fritter, you can clearly tell on the inside that there was plenty of blue crab. The fritter was fried to perfection, and the overall taste was amazing. You can taste and feel the texture of that blue crab and it was delightful. The croquettes were also very good, I have nothing bad to say about them but probably because I was still rolling in my amazement over the Thai sausage dish and fritter. My experience overall at Butcher and The Boar was great and I would absolutely go back without hesitation. The only drawback I have for this place is the parking. You can either choose $10 valet parking or you could choose street parking. I was considering doing the valet parking, however there were two vehicles that were blocking the entrance so I opted for street parking instead and had to drive around for a little bit before I found the spot about a block away. So make sure you arrive a bit ahead of time for your reservation to make sure you're not late. Thank you Butcher & The Boar for a great experience! We'll be back!
Great place for a date night. Service was exceptional. Menu is meat focused. Food was delicious.
I have heard great things about Butcher & The Boar and saw an opportunity to try it out during the MSP Magazine Restaurant Week. Upon entrance, the place is moody, cozy and inviting with hanging warm lightbulbs that add a nice touch. We were seated in a comfortable booth across the bar which gave us access to the Happy Hour menu, from which we ordered the curly fries that were delicious to start. Everything else we ordered was from the Restaurant Week Menu, which shares similar items with the regular dinner menu, just special pricing and portions. We tried the Smoked Salmon Spread served with a side of toast, this wasn’t our favorite, as it was a little greasy and lacked some flavor. We also tried the Blue Crab Beignets these were very enjoyable and were served with a remoulade sauce that enhanced the flavor and paired well! For entrees we tried the Catfish which was good, it had a cornmeal crust and was served with Dirty Rice and the remoulade sauce which were both delicious, the Catfish itself could’ve used a little less breading, and the lemon on the side took it up a level and enhanced the overall flavor. We also tried the Flat Iron Steak, which was the highlight of the night, it was cooked perfectly as well as soft and tender, served with chimichurri and the fluffiest mashed potatoes, would definitely recommend it. To end the night off we had the Ice Cream Sundae, this was so fun to order and another highlight, all the toppings were served on the side and you could build it yourself, we chose the Salted Caramel flavor which had more of a Toffee taste but was still delicious. The Flourless Chocolate Torte was tasty, it was dense and packed with all the good chocolate flavors, yet it was soft and melted in your mouth, super delicious! Overall, we had a nice time visiting and would try again!
With the exception of the “chicken and waffle” dish the food was served lukewarm and without steam 🧐(4stars) None of the items listed below were on the brunch menu. Mackenzie took great care of us most definitely going back to check out the dinner service!
Loved the location, ambience, complimentary valet and the welcoming atmosphere (coat check upon entry with nice decor and smoky scent in the air). However, for the price point - it warranted better food. We ordered a sausage platter (good), wood fire oysters (ok), lamb shoulder (too salty) and some sides. The cornbread and sweet potatoes sides I thought were over cooked. The 24K cocktail, Brussels sprouts and the banana foster dessert were the highlights for me (all 3 unique). I like the original butcher and the boar a little better (used to live right by it and I was told the original ownership sold the restaurant/brand to a new group). Good to try out once and check out if you’re in the area, but not sure I’d come back for the food.
Had New Year's Eve dinner here. The staff was excellent—they did a great job explaining the menu and making suggestions. I ordered the Wagyu Denver; I normally prefer medium-rare, but the server suggested medium for that specific cut. I took the advice, and it was excellent. Overall, a great experience. The food was delicious, and while the entree portion was a little small, everything else was fantastic.
We were a party of eight enjoying a dinner among friends. The service was excellent, and the place itself is stunning, with truly impressive décor. That said, the prices are quite high—so if you're looking to spend less, this might not be the best option. I ordered the tartare as a starter, and it was tasty. However, my main course was chicken, which unfortunately arrived completely raw on the inside. I left more than half of the dish untouched—there’s simply no way to eat undercooked chicken. I have a culinary background, so I can clearly distinguish between “succulent” and “undercooked.” I would return for the service and the ambiance, but not for the food. After sampling several dishes from my friends’ plates, none stood out as particularly impressive.
I so wanted to love this based on the reviews. The flavors were there but the quality of meat was awful. First thing that was off putting was a $15 valet, no comp with dinner so you are paying to park and eat. The charcuterie was not explained after it was set down, if mystery meat turns you on, so be it. The smoked salmon was delicious, the bread was delicious, the charcuterie meat with anise was off putting to 2 of 3 at the table. The most disappointing was the smoked beef long rib, yes, a big hunk of smoked meat fell off the bone in one chunk but thereafter it was tough and even my steak knife could not cut off the small pieces of meat from the fat and gristle. We sent back about 20oz of bone and gristle of the 26oz rib. The sides were supposed to be shareable but were small. The staff were busy and did not check in with us or the table next to us who also sent the long rib and its detached hunk of gristle to the trash. I asked the buser to let the chef know that this was the worst cut of meat I had ever experienced and still no one came to check on us. Our guest asked to taste the difference between the house red and a blended red, the sample was a spit in the glass which is great if you simply want to smell it. Paid, left, and can compliment the valet for getting us the heck out of there fast!
I understand a tri tip is fatty but not that fatty. Thought service at the bar would have been better. The speak easy is great
Wanted to love this place as we are big fans of places offering smoked/grilled meats. Weekday date night exploring a new place. However, we were not wowed, it was a meh experience. Starting off with being forced to pay for valet on a practically empty lot, $15 plus a $3 convenience fee. The vibe and aesthetic of the restaurant is pretty inviting so we were excited. Then you start the meal and have immediate disappointment that the $80 Smoked Beef Long Rib is way more fat than expected and lacked seasoning. The Cole slaw that accompanied the Rib was lacking flavor. We ordered the green chorizo sausage and that was dry, needed a lot of the crema to add some moisture. The best thing, although I'll share quite small, was the shareable cucumber salad. We ended with a chocolate torte and apple crisp, both did not meet expectations. The apple tarte was soggy. We only had 2 drinks and the bill was $200 (3% fee for paying with a CC). Service was pleasant but not as attentive as we would have liked.
I give them three starts because of their service. Our waiter was very unprofessional. He was setting up the table incorrectly for different courses. Like he didn't know the correct way to set the silverware up. The food was good. The portions were big. My favorite dessert was PEAR CRISP. The bartender was very knowledgeable and recommended great drinks. Highly recommend the bar area!!
This review should have been 5 star because everything with very good... BUT the 4% charge for credit card use left a bad taste in our mouth/experience. Credit cards companies charge-back about 2%, so why are you asking us to pay 4%? If you need to make more profits; go ahead and negotiate better cost for your product, increase productivity, or increase your retail price… we just want to be treated honestly!
We came here really looking forward to a simple, special New Year’s dinner. The service was kind and the ambiance was great, but the food felt a bit overworked for what it was. Both the steak and the pork chop were buried under heavy sauce and large amounts of garnish, which made it hard to just enjoy the quality of the meat. On top of that, the pork chop was unfortunately quite dry and overcooked, which really took away from the experience. From someone who really loves and appreciates good food, sometimes restraint shows more confidence than complexity. A great cut of meat does not need to be hidden under layers of flavors. It just needs to be cooked well and allowed to shine. Cleaner plating, lighter saucing, and more attention to doneness would make a big difference. For the price point $200, we expected something more focused, balanced, and truly special, especially for New Year’s.
Came here to celebrate a friend’s birthday, but the experience fell a bit short. Despite having a reservation, most appetizers and entrées were unavailable. We ordered what was left and had to share, but the flavors were off - the brussels sprouts were undercooked, and the long bone steak didn’t feel worth the $85 - none of us could stomach it since it was slimy and the smell/aroma did not do it for us. We had a lot of leftovers. The cocktails were good and I did appreciate the complimentary grits, as well as a complimentary cocktail for the birthday girl, which felt like a kind gesture on an otherwise disappointing experience.
I went to the original Butcher and loved it. This is nothing like the original. The bacon slab wasnt flavorable. The sauce with the long rib was broken and lacked flavor. The cauliflower was underwhelming. The Mac n cheese and old fashioned were good. For spending $750 for 4 people with tip this was wildly disappointing especially since I know what it used to be. The server was subpar. I’d encourage people to go to Butchers Tale over Butcher & the Boar.
