Of all the “OG”-ish places still left in montauk, gig shack still delivers. Great food, friendly service. Fish was fresh and delicious. Burgers so good. Caesar salad always fantastic and cocktails are perfect. Music is a plus when they have it!
It finally happened! I was invited to a local get together to watch the local star Steve Ruiz on Jeopardy and he was there in person! I managed to score a great spot next to him. Unfortunately, he did not win but boy did we have a great time.
This place is so cute and delicious! My husband had the fish tacos with mango salsa and I had the mussels and we loved everything! I want to come back to try more, the whole menu looked amazing. The people working there were so helpful and friendly, great atmosphere. Highly recommend!
Always great food at 668! Loved tge outdoor refresh with the bar style table facing the street for optimal people watching
We arrived right before 11:30, that's when the place opens.. There were already a bunch of people waiting to be seated. It was particularly busy due to the long weekend, however the hostess seated evryone pretty quickly. There are outdoor and indoor seating available. The restaurant decor is beautiful, particularly the ceiling. The food and drinks were served promptly and the live music was great.. Overall our experience was great. Food was great too. We ordered the Lobster roll, blackened fish sandwich, shrimp skewers and some cocktails. The shrimps were really good! It's a little pricey but it was worth it.
Causal, friendly, nice atmosphere and good food.
Lovely, local restaurant! I hade the Blueberry Whiskey Lemonade which was delicious! It had a strong natural blueberry flavor and mild lemonade tone. I love whiskey but this drink hides any hint of whiskey. We shared the Roasted Local Carrots, the Buttered Poached Lobster Slider, Tuna Tartar Taquitos and Pan Seared Crispy Chicken. Everything was delectable, light and refreshing with dinner I enjoyed a glass of Gavi white wine. There was live music and an engaging crowd! The female musician sang a range of songs with her own style and familiarity. We sat outside and enjoyed conversation great food and atmosphere. The server was attentive friendly and although very busy very sociable.
We had lunch here on 4th of July weekend. Service was great and attentive. Best burger I've had in a long time, Thai muscles were tasty, fish tacos were really good. Nice place to sit and people watch and have a few drinks. Do yourself a favor and skip the overpriced "trendy" places and eat here.
Wonderful place to visit while in Montauk. Great atmosphere and equally great staff. Irish bartender always ads to an establishment! Bring lots of money cause like every where else in Montauk, it's expensive!!
Amazing food with fresh fish and wonderful people!
We went here by accident because we were very hungry and I was so pleased of how amazing the food was. We had NO IDEA how good it was going to be. Everything was delicious served fresh and hot and you don’t even care about you water soda drink because the food is so good you can’t stop eating it. Also I didn’t feel bloated after I ate I felt content and definitely full. I went home and passed out like a baby and woke up dreaming about their food and now I’m here telling you all, lol 😂. Highly recommend this place!
Just wanted to thank Grey and team for a spectacular meal. Tonight was my first time dining there since he took over the reins and the quality of the food was absolutely faultless. We ordered the chicken thighs and also the BBQ ribs and both were cooked to perfection, and incredibly tasty, not to mention presented beautifully. Service was excellent and the atmosphere was spot on, with some nice acoustic music too. Congrats Grey, I’ll be back to dine again before summer is over I’m sure.
Food was very delicious! I had fish sandwich and my husband had fish and chips and both were delicious and super fresh tasting. I loved my tomato in a sandwich. Drink were very strong and got us tipsy so I guess they were worth 15$. One less star for a service, we had to wave someone each time we needed something. Edit: thanks for taking your time to explain , make sense so I change the it to 5 stars.
We ordered the lobster roll, fish tacos and the grilled lemon Cesare salad for takeout and our order was ready pretty fast. Everything we ordered was great. Their lobster roll is served in a croissant and it worked great with the light flavored sauce on the lobster salad. The blackened fish tacos were also really great as was the salad. You can expect to spend $50 to $100 plus drinks for 2 people depending on what you order but that's par for the course in a vacation resort town. The atmosphere is fairly lively and not too pretentious or loud. Nice place.
Great service from our waitress! Best Burger in Montauk. They also offer vegan/vegetarian options for the burger (with the beyond meat patty). Amazing cocktail options and nice outdoor seating. There was no wait on a Saturday afternoon. Great for adult and kids. A lot of people got their tacos so that must be great too!
The fries were amazing, they only had one working bathroom while we’re were here and it is a tight squeeze. There was a line and the sink was not draining well. The lobster roll was delish but the kids chicken quesadilla was amazing! I stole quite a few bites. My husband had the fish sandwich also good! The drinks were cold and delicious. We got sat right away but the food took a bit long to come out.
My wife and I went here on a whim and were pleasantly surprised! I had the fluke, she had the spanakopita, both dishes were delicious! I have been a chef for over 20 years so I’m usually critical when eating out, but I literally had nothing to criticize. Food was awesome, service was awesome, will definitely come back!
Delicious food. Main courses were ample in size but the empanada appetizer was around 7 for two of them which is a bit pricey. Friendly staff, a lot of seating, clean restrooms, good food and drink menus. Great place to stop by if you're in the area the croissant grilled chicken sandwich was delicious and the spicy mayo? Sauce is gooooooood
Completely underrated, top notch sea food. Super super fresh. Tile fish tacos unbelievable.
Been here for lunch and dinner on different occasions. This time we sat at the bar with friends for drinks. Staff was awesome and friendly.
The food is mind-blowingly good, service is amazing, and atmosphere has a distinctive charm to it. I fell in love with this place (and their FOOD) and would absolutely drive 3h just to eat there again. The Lamborghinis are art. I forgot what type of cheese they add, but it tasted heavenly. Fish tacos 🌮 are an absolute bomb. And the breaded fish 🥹 chef’s kiss 🤌🏻 Can’t add any photos: our plates were emptied within minutes.
We had a great dinner here on the patio. All of the food we tried was a riff on a classic. From the Mediterranean we had Spanakopita it was a light and delicious, on a bed of hummus and giant couscous. Thinking of Baja, Tuna taquitos - delicious triangles of tartar goodness, and straight out of SoCal the blackened fish tacos with a mango salsa they were super fresh and not too spicy with a yummy slaw. For dessert we split the reminiscent of Amalfi Marscapone and limoncello cake which just topped of a night of fusion and fun! (And our wine was French!)
Omg! Loved this restaurant. Plenty of space outdoors and indoors. Great place to quickly grab food and go about your day. Restaurant is in the central location of Montauk and easy to get around other places afterwards. The duck confit wings were absolutely delicious as well as the rest of the food and cocktails we got. Menu is kind of limited but good selection of foods to eat.
Already can't wait to come back to this place! It had a great atmosphere with delicious food. I ordered the ribs with cornbread & coleslaw and it was really good! Others at my table ordered scallops, the fish tacos and the lobster roll and loved their meals as well. Service was great and we were happy we picked this spot for dinner!
We visit here for Restaurant Week, they're normally packed out door during the season, so this was a good time to visit. We had the clams in a wonderful warm Curry broth, we had the curry chicken empanadas, tacos, and the hamburger. Everything was done exceptionally well and quite satisfying. The restaurant week was an excellent value. Otherwise the pricing is on par with other Montauk establishments
Super hungry when arrived here. Had the tuna tartare taquitos, Panko breaded fluke, montakos, side of fries and cookie w/ gelato. The food was amazing!!!! The montakos could have used a little more spice in the fish but the breaded fluke and veg were perfectly seasoned. Would dine in again
Stopped here with a girlfriend for lunch and we could not have chosen a better spot! You are welcomed by beautiful beach decor and a friendly staff. Our server recommended the Billy Goat Salad which we ordered with the Lobster Roll (you must try it). It was so flavorful with beets and goat cheese, certainly one of the best salads I've ever had. The lobster meat paired perfectly with the fresh croissant it comes with. The food quality, quick service, friendly staff, and picturesque decor makes this the perfect lunch stop on your day trip or weekend in Montauk. P.S. the cocktails are just as creative and tasty.
Whenever we visit Montauk we make sure to stop at the Gig Shack. Great food, service and vibes! Very family friendly and good gluten free options too.
Put it this way, there's no going to Montauk and NOT going to The Gig Shack... particularly to eat these tuna tacos! Aside from that, this place is just cool! The vibe, the staff, the music is all on point and then the food and cocktails are delicious as well! Check out the Lamburghinis too ~ Delish! Please don't ever change XO
hands down the best restaurant in Montauk - no need to look any further. extremely fresh and creative dishes that are amazing every single time. most of the ingredients for their menu items are local!! either coming from local fishermen or farms, which is amazing and so unique. it really makes all the difference in the food quality. any restaurant that has seasonal menu items i trust!! i love that they change their menu and specials based on the seasons. staff is 10/10 and family vibes are 10/10. you feel like a real part of MTK community here. will always be back!!
Very unassuming restaurant. Looks like a dive bar messed with a local eating spot. I was not expecting such an elevated dining experience. The pricing was pretty affordable. Ate the mussels that came with toasted bread that I dipped back into the sauce -absolutely amazing. Scallops salad was mediocre. The scallops were over salted. The Lamborghini sliders were really solid. The overall surprise was the key lime pie. I am from South Florida and consider myself a key lime aficionado. I was quite surprised at how the custard filling was so smooth and the crust was nutty and right on. They have my seal of approval.
If I could give this place more than 10 stars, I would! The Gig Shack in Montauk is hands-down one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had — and that’s saying something. We started with a local greens salad with figs and plums that was fresh, vibrant, and bursting with flavor. The sweet potato, eggplant, and fried leek curry was a rich, comforting masterpiece, and the local sourdough bread with vegan whipped butter was so good we were tempted to ask for a second loaf to take home. Every bite felt both thoughtful and inspired. The music set the perfect mood, and the entire team was incredibly accommodating to our vegan diet — not just in words, but in execution. The chef and owner personally came out to greet us, making sure we were happy with every part of our meal. That kind of genuine hospitality is rare. This is a 10/10 restaurant in every way. In fact, if there’s one place in the Hamptons that truly deserves a Michelin star, it’s this one.
My family and I have been coming to 668 The Gig Shack for a couple of summers now, and it never disappoints. The dishes are authentic, unique and flavorful and the staff truly goes above and beyond. Tonight was extra special — the entire staff including the owners were incredibly warm and attentive, making us feel right at home. We even bonded over our shared love for ethnic food, which made the night feel even more personal and memorable. This place has heart, great vibes, and the kind of hospitality that keeps you coming back. A true Montauk gem!
Tommy the bartender was a sweetheart and made a yummy whisky/lemonade. We got to meet the phenomenal chef Joshua and I was able to rave to him about the fact that I’ve been obsessing over his smashed potatoes and the BEST Caesar salad I have ever had since I first had them 2 years ago. They were still my favorite and we also tried the Lamburghini’s( lamb sliders w/ aioli), just delicious! My favorite spot in Montauk! Don’t miss this spot!
Food was amazing!!! Smashed potatoes, ribs, burger were all so delicious. Margarita was great! My little also enjoyed his grilled cheese and ate every single fry 😂 Presentation was great too! I wish we lived here to eat all year round but sadly we’re on vacation. Loved the atmosphere! Sitting outside was so nice. The weather was perfect. Will definitely be coming back to eat here every time we visit MTK!
The bartenders were attentive and made very good cocktails. I love the clean ingredients with the margarita. The live music was fabulous and it really lends to the atmosphere of the place. Everybody was having a great time, you could tell. We didn't eat here we just went for cocktails and the music but it was a great time! Highly recommend.
Friendly staff, great food. So good, in fact, that I forgot to take pics before we started to eat. So the pics im posting are after we started :-) I got the lobster roll. Absolutely fantastic. They def DID NOT skimp on the lobster meat. The sandwich was one of the best I've ever had. The Cole slaw salad and chips that came with it were home-made and delicious. My wife got the lamb sliders. WOW! Super good. My wife also got a regular margarita and a watermelon mixed drink. Both had a good amount of liquor. Highly recommend.
Pretty cool little place in the heart of town. Sat at the bar and watched the tennis match. Had a lobster slider, which was buttery and delicious. Cheesburger with fries. Washed it down with a Stella and capped off the night with a Jameson. It's definitely worth checking out if you are in the area. The wait staff and bartenders were friendly and efficient. I try to come this way once a year from Texas and will definitely revisit when I am back. Thank you, Gig Shack.
Came here on 6/30/20 for dinner. Showed up right before they opened at 5pm. Sat right away as a party of 4. We had lobster roll, ribs , chips with guacamole (appetizer), burger, and kids grilled cheese. Chips and guacamole were yummy but for $16, I would have liked more guacamole. Similar to other reviewers, the food was good, but seemed over priced. Nothing that WOWed me, not even sure I’d return. Ribs were good and recommended by our waiter- the meat sure did fall off the bone and I ate every single one. Husband said he’s had better lobster rolls elsewhere. Also- my cornbread that came with the ribs had a small black hair baked into the crust. I didn’t complain, but just would be nice to not see something like that in a meal that cost $38. Ice water was fresh and cold. Nice ambiance! Felt clean there (we sat outside) and the server was so friendly.
Great place to chill, good food and great service.
Service was great!! Food was very tasty! Good menu choices but Very very expensive!! (and we shared) The goat cheese salad was delicious but was a little disappointing because it was mostly lettuce. The Ribs were small and really delicious. Liked the Funky decor! Great music but there was some other music playing in the background at the same time. Distracting !
The mussels were truly delicious. The lobster roll, for $36, was not sensational, as it should be at that price. And the fish tacos were good but very spicy. The service was excellent and our waitress was especially engaging. And we did bring our dog. That was great.
Vibes? Immaculate. Service? Excellent. Salads (baby gem and Caesar)? Stars of the show, 10/10 no notes. Smashed potatoes also slayed. As for drinks, any spot that uses maestro dobel in their spicy marg is a yes from me, dog. The thing that kept this review from a 5 star was the spicy Thai mussels. Quality of the mussels themselves was excellent. Sauce was boring, too thick, lacked Thai flavor, peppers were odd in it. Recommend sticking with the classic white wine sauce. Overall, def recommend this spot!!
Really Good food and nice atomsphere (we had a table outside). I took a pasta with shrimp and chorizo that was really good! There where only 2 negative things with this restaurant: there was a weird smell all over the restaurant (couldn't really place it, somewhere between wet dog and burned food) and we got served water out of single use plastic cups instead of real glasses. Not good for the environment and not a nice experience! Otherwise I really liked this place! Would recommend!
The most reason why I'm here is this place is dog friendly restaurant. I took my spoiled puppy with me on a small vacation trip so everywhere I go. They welcomed me good. In the summer can be hot so the table under the shade isn't a lot so ppl is a bit afraid to bring their dog close to my table. But we were able to manage 3 dog tables to be sit close by and be peaceful. Mostly work credit to dogs owner not a restaurant staff. Service was just ok, I had to ask for water and stuff but they gave me everything I asked for that was fine. Food was fine. Overall, this place is good, if you travel with your pet, this restaurant is one of the places you can bring your fido to.
I came to Montauk to have a bromantic getaway and mend some broken relationships with my buddies. This place created a warm atmosphere and provided us with good food and service. The ribs were smoked and flavorful The striped bass was clean and savory The the mussels with french onion bread dipped in some mussel cream sauce was the best
The gig shack makes great fried foods and burgers. But it is way overpriced, and cash only no credit cards. Lol 😅
Food was fine but a little pricey. However, the service was abysmal. We got seated before 9. We had to ask for water 3 times after we got seated. I would have sympathy if the staff was overwhelmed with the volume of patrons. But the staff was just chit chatting to each other. Staff did not explain the menu well. I was surprised the fried fluke intentionally came with cold cooked vegetables. The key lime pie was good tho!
One small empanada for $12 crazy. We asked the waitress to give our friend a desert for her birthday , but we never got it. So sad.
Nice atmosphere and friendly service but the food is just ok and very expensive for what it is; the spaghetti with clams was especially expensive and lacking flavor. They also charge more than the menu says and then add a charge for using a credit card without any indication on the menu. Not cool.
Everyone was pretty happy with our food but we had to wait 15 plus minutes any time we needed anything from our server including paying the check, we had to finally walk up and ask them to charge us. Saturday night and it’s was slightly busy but it’s not a large place. Maybe a dozen tables, it didn’t warrant the slow service. Member of our party suggested it was because we had a party larger than 6. Meaning 20% gratuity was going to be added and they could focus on other tables to get more tips. Hostess up front was accommodating and even saw us trying to take a group photo. She stepped in and helped. Could have used faster service or schedule more servers so the others aren’t overwhelmed.
One of the worst margaritas I've ever had, and it was $18. One of my friends had to send hers back because she couldn't drink it. For $4 less I can get an incredible margarita in Manhattan. My chicken sandwich was burned, too. Montauk is all hype now it seems and this is the perfect example.
Food was ok. Not the best for this price, but tastes ok. My biggest issue was the service. The team was acting with attitude, which is not acceptable. We ordered 4 burgers. They messed up and brought us 2 incorrect burgers. When we said we didn’t order that, they didn’t bother to apologize and left unhappy and with attitude. Afterwards they brought us correct burgers, but well done, instead of medium. I was fine with it being cooked incorrectly, but the attitude the team acted with just made the whole experience very unpleasant.
If you are a reggae artist, please do not accept a booking at this venue. The soundman will keep turning down your mic, turn off the bass of your sound, not have a mic cable and the patrons will completely ignore your performance.
$11 a beer, $49 lobster roll? No happy hour? Unenthusiastic service and no smiles? Ripoff - abusing tourist economy. Skip this.
Food is decent, but apparently customer service is optional here. We stood outside for 10 minutes waiting to be seated — restaurant practically empty, no line, just us. Four different staff members walked past without so much as a hello. I finally went inside to find four servers hanging out behind the bar, only to be told, “____ is helping a table, then she’ll seat you.” Right… because clearly no one else could possibly walk us to a table. We took the hint and went elsewhere. If you’re looking for attentive service, look anywhere else. In response to owner: Lol. Usually a highlight of my summer, but this time you took the season off. Hopefully you’re back in form next year.
