So I just used DoorDash to order a pork combo. I wanted a plate with all rice but I guess I ordered it wrong. When I got my food there was a note attached to my food and they got exactly what I wanted. To the employee who wrote the note THANK YOU! You’re an amazing employee. I will definitely be back with great service like this. Thanks again
This L&L is the best! I've been to so many and have been disappointed at more than expected. The long Beach location was an embarrassment to the name. This location is always great. It was even better than the one in Oahu. Its always busy, but it's worth the wait. The servings are good size and the staff are the best out of every location as well. I usually get the kalua pork, it's been awesome every time here.

First timers here at L&L Hawaiian Barbecue! You absolutely cannot beat the price for the amount of food that you get. Aside from that, I'm sure you're wanting to know how it tasted? It was simply incredible. We orded the Seafood Combo Plate along with the BBQ Beef plate. Every meat and piece of fish was beyond tender. You did not need a fork or knife to cut the meat. It fell apart with ease. It was filled with endless flavor. Although this is probably preference, I wasn't a fan of the rice. It didn't provide much flavor - but that's not really too important for what you get. The macaroni salad side that's included was simply perfect. Not tangy, not too sweet. My only complaint was that it was cold - the door was wide open for the dining area. The food and portion sizes are simply incredible for the price.
It’s not the greatest looking L&L aesthetically, but the food is the same quality as the other locations I’ve been to. The macaroni, rice, and chicken plate is hard to beat when you’re starving. It’s consistent, filling, and flavorful. Not my first choice, but definitely not my last. A reasonably priced decent meal. The staff is chill as well. I don’t know why people say they’re rude, they’re really just very busy and trying to keep things organized.
Food is good but pricey. After trying to order a family pack for $125, they wanted to charge $2 extra per scoop of rice being swapped to Mac which makes zero sense. They claim it’s $0.50 a scoop when you buy a normal meal but 4X more to swap the same amount when you pay $125 for a family pack. Instead I called Eastlake where there was zero charge and I have never been charged for swapping it.
Ok, soooooo I prefer the bbq beef plate here at this location. HOWEVER the customer “service” leaves A LOT to be desired. So my plan was to call ahead to place an order for my lunch. Welp they have to actually answer the phone to make that happen. 4 YES 4 calls later at 11:10am someone rudely answered the phone then placed me on hold. She comes back a few min later. I felt like I was in a SNL sketch. It was so annoying it was comical! So I’m placing my order for bbq beef plate. Goes a little something like this : Me: Can I order a REGULAR bbq beef plate for pick up? Her: What size Me: REEEEEGULAR Her: IS THAT IT? Me: can I have the meat chopped please ? Her: IS THAT IT? Me: All Mac on the side please Her: IS THAT IT ? Me: Oh and no Cabbage please Her: IS THAT IT ? Me: Yea, thank you Her: 15-20 min ( hang up) Uuuuuuummmm ok ……. So theeeeen I go into the store. After 4 calls and a 3 min hold and a 5 min drive. NOT ONE PERSON was in the store NOT ONE. I thought the line would be out the door . She says “ ya, they all just left” with a spider lash eye roll ( the comedy of the response ) So I pay and get my lunch. Look in the bag NOT A FORK IN SIGHT. No Sauces at all ! I got back and ask for a fork, napkins, and two teriyaki sauces. She looked at me like I asked her to empty the cash register! Then she repeats “two sauces” uuuuuh yes please “two sauces”. Guyyyyyyys I know you are like the OG spot but come ooooon. Everything has gone up tremendously EXCEPT your level of service. Let’s get it together and do better please and thank you in advance for your cooperation!
Can’t believe the prices went from $8.99 for a large chicken plate in 2018, to $16.99 in 2026. Haven’t had a meal here in a long while.
Staff is great, food is amazing, I’m only rating it a 2 because of how hot it always is in this place. The poor employees have to endure the hot and moist atmosphere, while it’s 98 degrees outside, while next to grills all day. They are very humble employees who don’t seem to complain, but the sweat on their foreheads tell you speak for them. They move slowly and it’s definitely because their bodies have been working so hard in this heat. When I asked the cashier if they get AC to make sure it wasn’t just a fault or outage, but they just said the owner is old school.. hello? It’s 2025, what business as big as L&L who has been running for so many years. They definitely make enough money to at least treat their employees to the environment they deserve. To not care for your employees who bust their asses for you is extremely selfish. Stop treating workers who are already underpaid like animals, and even then shelters treat their animals better than these companies treat their hard working employees. SMH, extremely disappointing.
Food is not asgood as it use to be.Meat is chewy not good quality meat . They use cheap quality meat. Their macaroni salad was so bland. It had no taste. Don't think ill be eating there anytime soon.
Super expensive Spam musubi !!! 4.99 for 1? Thats doesnt sound right!. Also the place looks old and in need of new trash cans and chairs, it also has no restrooms.
Got a barbecue chicken plate for my son. Im very disappointed because my son's plate had hair in it. That was nasty!!!. We threw plate to the trash!!. Not coming to this place again.. dont want more hairs in our food!! Cant even enjoy food in peace ...not sure if cooks wear hair nets for head or facial covering.
My boyfriend and I came here for dinner because we love L&L, but this visit was very disappointing. The cashier, Jemima, was extremely rude and unprofessional. We arrived at 8:00 p.m., a full hour before closing, yet she rushed us through our order, spoke to us as if we were stupid, and gave us dirty looks. She didn’t care to help with the menu and was literally sitting on the counter while taking our order. The whole interaction made us feel uncomfortable, unwelcome, and like we didn’t belong there. It’s unfortunate, because we’ve always enjoyed L&L, but this experience left a really bad impression.
Ordered a BBQ Plate (thinking it was the mixed bbq) with a mini Katsu over the phone. When I asked at the counter if it was the BBQ Plate to verify, I was told yes. Got home, I Checked the receipt and it says BBQ Chicken. I also checked Their website menu ONLY shows BBQ Chicken and BBQ Mix, NO BBQ PLATE— so how was I supposed to know “Plate” means the bbq chicken and not the BBQ mix because the manager Jess or Jessica confidently said - No, BBQ plate means BBQ Chicken I suggested they clarify with customers like Me who may have had the impression that it was the mixed plate since I never specified Chicken BBQ so in the future to avoid any confusion. Instead, the manager (Jessa/Jessica) sarcastically said: “I’m not a mind reader and I don’t know what you’re thinking.” I wasn’t asking for a refund—I was offering a simple solution and suggestion , She said just bring it in and we will Replace or refund... I live 25min away. Unfortunately, customer service these days seems quicker to be defensive than accountable. Disappointing experience.
I have been a National City resident for over 30 years and L&L has been one of my go-to spots when it comes to their food. Every time I would come here, it was always a pleasure and I've never had a problem until this week. I am one who is real big on customer service and take it very seriously and that's one of the reasons that would keep me coming back to a business to receive my business. But, the girl working the front register area was very rude and looked like she did not want to be there by the way her body language was speaking. Not sure if she was a new employee or what but if you are going to have an attitude like that working with the public then this isn't the type of job you should be in. No customer service nor friendly at all. People working in the front are the face of the business and that puts a bad image for all who works there. She also had the audacity to talk under her breath to another employee right in front of me, the customer! Thinking I wouldn't hear anything, but I did. You'd think she would wait until I was out the door and then said something. But, clearly she doesn't care or she would've held her tongue. You won't always get those easy going good customers, you will get some that will be difficult, etc. That's how working with the public and customer service is. Overall, this place has gone down bad over time. Such a shame because this used to be the spot. Not anymore for me after this experience. I will be taking my business elsewhere
Quality of this location has gone down! Walked in and it looked like a storage room with boxes and chairs stacked. Mostly all signage is hand written. The food quality was terrible. Rice was old and hard, very clumpy. The pork chop that is now served rather than the spareribs was dry, beef was high in fat, and the chicken lacked lots of flavor. Disappointing because this used to be our go to spot.
