Opinions de Alpine House New Braunfels
We were so excited to visit Alpine Haus, and it did not disappoint. This cute German restaurant is set in an adorable historic house with a wonderful, cozy atmosphere. It’s a great place to go with friends or family because it’s easy to carry on a conversation without feeling overwhelmed by noise. We visited on a Saturday night and really enjoyed the accordion player — such a lovely, authentic touch that added to the experience. My husband and I shared the sausage platter with sauerkraut, and it was absolutely amazing. Overall, Alpine Haus offers a fantastic atmosphere and a delicious meal. We’ll definitely be back.
This was the cutest town and this was an amazing resturant. The food was absolutely divine, flavorful and cooked with love.
An incredible experience! Having lv d in Germany for a number of years, we know great traditional German food. This is just a exceptional! We are here for a small family birthday gathering. Our server Karen is a delight. This has been a PERFECT EVENING. Wow . .
I've been driving past Alpine Haus for years. Recently, I ran into the owner incidentally, and mentioned how I'd always meant to try it. Tonight, I finally got to, and let me say, it was worth the wait. Saturday was busy, I did not realize it was so cozy a place, and didn't plan ahead with a reservation. They were kind enough to fit me in when tables opened up. An accordion player completed the rustic, old world ambiance. However, more impressive than the atmosphere, was kindness, attentiveness, understanding, genuine care every member of the staff I interacted with shared. Melanie was at the table as often as she could and shared great recommendations, heart felt memories, and a smile able to melt a heart on a cold night. The split pea soup and bread starter was light and delicious. We had an appetizer of soft pretzel and I could probably have eaten just the mustard alone (which sounds insane, I know, but it was fantastic!) And the entrees were as wholesome and feel-good as I could have ever imagined. Goulash can be over engineered, but this was the stew that built a people, a home made delight worth the wait. My partner's entree was fantastic as well, and I imagine everything on the menu is. For those who drink more than I do, recommended pairings are available for every dish and the drink sections dwarf the food menu. I can't speak of any of them, but I would trust the servers and managers to stock only the best after trying the food. Thank you for being a slice of the old world in New Braunfels and bringing that stick-to-your-ribs hardness to our community. I hope to be back for more soon.
Ach Du lieber ya'll ! In New Braunfels with its German heritage, you would expect a great German restaurant. Alpine Haus delivers in spaten! For our first time, we had the brie appetizer to start. Wowzers! An entire brie wheel, covered in almonds with beautifully soft marbled bread. It would easily satisfy a party of four. I had an excellent rouladen (exactly like my German grandmother made!!) Delicious!! and hubby had a tasty chicken Rahm Schnitzel (creamy mushroom sauce with chicken) which was devine. Our server was wonderful, friendly and so helpful. Great German ambiance. Small authentic German restaurant. Come hungry, come ready for an awesome treat.
One of the best German restaurants I’ve been to! Whenever my wife and I are in New Braunfels we make sure to stop here. Fantastic food and excellent beer selection. The restaurant is very cozy, so recommend getting reservations if you come here on the weekend. The schnitzel is excellent, and the sausage plate and pretzel appetizers are exemplary. Desserts are transcendental. You will not go home hungry!
The BESTTT!!! We tried the sample platter, and a little bit of everything, and it was amazing! The service was spectacular Sarah was great! The food came out hot and smelling great! The fried Brie… a dream. I honestly want to come back even though I live nowhere near. I honestly have high standards for food, and this place meets them. Also not to mention the decor and the ambiance was super transporting. 10/10
My favorite German restaurant to get delicious authentic German food. They have a variety of weinerschnitzels with my goto being the Jager-schnitzel with the rich mushroom gravy. The accompanying sides are delicious also: Red cabbage, fresh salad with house-made dressing, soft rye bread with butter, spaetzel. My husband had a very yummy rueben sandwich with a side of german potato salad. He was impressed with his meal and that the saurkraut was so tasty but mild. The staff were all so welcoming and pleasant. The restaurant has nice german music to enjoy. You get alot for your money. We both have another meal to enjoy since the portions were so generous. Don't miss this New Braunfels gem!
My wife and I met friends for dinner at Alpine Haus while visiting New Braunfels last week. Right off the bat, we were charmed by Alpine Haus’ cozy vibe and our waitstaff (Melanie?), but the food—y’all. The FOOD! My friend had the Sausage Platter with a jalapeño sausage and a beef and cheddar sausage. Her husband had the Sauerbraten. I could tell by their reactions they loved their food, and after being offered a bite, I can see why. Both sausages were juicy and flavorful. The wine-marinated beef of the Sauerbraten pretty much fell apart as I picked some off the plate and goodness gracious did it taste great. The juices made for a tender and delectable bite. My wife really loved her Schweinenbraten but I didn’t manage to steal a bite from her. (Admittedly, I do have a serious cabbage allergy. She said she didn’t want to endanger me since her pork came into contact with the sauerkraut, so… I guess I’ll believe her!) I had the Jager Schnitzel because well… mushroom gravy! Lemme tell you, it did _not_ disappoint. The pork was perfectly fried and that mushroom gravy was so rich and decadent. I enjoyed the spätzle but those potatoes? Oof. Delicious! I’m swooning just remembering it. We concluded our dinner with a couple of light and airy Alpine Delights. It was the perfect finish to an incredible meal. Seriously, y’all. That meal was probably one of the best I’ve ever had. I cannot wait to return to New Braunfels so I can begin eating my way through the menu. Thank you, Alpine Haus for an incredible dining experience! —One very appreciative Fort Worthian.
My daughter treated me to lunch at Alpine Haus Restaurant in New Braunfels, Texas. She has dined here many times with friends. Our meals were outstanding! I had the grilled chicken salad, my daughter had the Schnitzel Sandwich lunch special. The mushroom soup and marbled rye bread was delicious! I asked for a second basket of the rye bread! The service was quick and excellent. Highly recommend this gem of a restaurant and we will be returning!
Sauerbraten and Jagerschnitzel are a must. Both were tender and savory while the Spaetzle was sweet and tangy. Cherry Strudel was sweet and a nice treat to end the night. The beers and wines are all German, by far the most authentic German restaurant I have even dined at. I would give more than 5 stars but Google will not let me. The owner visited me for a few minutes and you could tell he puts every ounce of energy and passion into every plate.
I originally came in for a different dish, but I hadn't had Suaerbraten in ages. It was delicious! I guess they are going to change the recipe, but I love the sour taste, so I hope not. While not a German dessert, they have an Alpine Delight which is a family recipe. Highly recommended! If you leave this place hungry, you are doing something wrong.
We celebrated our 33 wedding anniversary here, today! Today! 😍. The foods and service was excellent! We will be back and with friends! We were here mid-day. No reservations needed. Very chill vibe! Nice German music playing. The fried brie is a meal in it self. Have a schnitzel…you will be happy!!! The alpine delight was just that!
We haven’t been to Alpine Haus in a while since we moved to Florida so we were happy to make a trip to New Braunfels to eat lunch there. We lived in Germany for 8 years over 2 military assignments so we miss the food. Alpine Haus is pretty close to the food there which is why it was our favorite place to eat German food. The restaurant is in an old historic building which adds to the experience. The service was friendly and first class. We had the Jaeger and Rahm schnitzels with spatzle, blue cabbage, sauerkraut, salad and mushroom soup. All were very tasty and the portions were big. We definitely recommend it if you like German food.
This is not the tourist attraction German restaurant in New Braunfels, its far superior. Alpine Haus serves authentic homemade German cuisine. The schnitzel is amazing(all variations) and the wursts are all clearly handmade. The location is comfortable and cozy, not a biergarten style with a decent bottled beer selection. Alles schmeckt ausgezeichnet!
Enjoyed a wonderful dinner here w family whilst n town and it was great to see the culinary traditions of Germany and Austria in full swing here. We had the pleasure of being back n Germany this past year visiting friends and our little village we used to live in for a few years, and the offerings here really took me back to our home away from home. I’m a huge fan of veal schnitzel and very much enjoyed their take on this dish. The sides all are prepared with their own version of seasonings, etc and thus it was nice not to have usual stock offerings u find at other joints. The bier selection here also had some of my favorite jefe’s and that was an added bonus. Service was wonderful, and reservations are recommended during busier holiday months when the town is packed w river visitors. Prost!!!
We visited for the first time Easter 2025. We live in Switzerland for a while and got to appreciate Germanic food there and in Austria and Germany. We are a bit picky. We picked up the college yute and headed south to New Braunfels. The restaurant is unassuming from the outside. There was plenty of parking. When we went inside - boom - we were transported to a restaurant in Europe. Wow. The tables were mostly full. Be sure to make a reservation. There are several rooms with tables. The inside is decorate with brick and decor just like a place we like near Zurich. Very nice looking. The service was excellent and efficient. We started with some fried zucchini - I don't mind saying the best I ever had. The appetizer is very large and easily fed the three of us. Then the yute and I had a side salad with a fantastic dill dressing. They lady had a mushroom soup that she liked. A pumpernickel / rye type of swirled bread was served also, with butter. The lady had pork Jager schnitzel and mushroom gravy, potato salad and red cabbage. She said it was great, but could only eat half and got the rest to go. The yute tried the double sausage plate (smoked and bratwurst) with German potato salad, red cabbage. It came with a mustard and a cheese dipping sauce. He enjoyed the smoked, but like the bratwurst better. I had the chicken zigeuner schnitzel with spaetzle, and red cabbage. Let me take a moment - that schnitzel was so large, flattened, moist and cooked perfectly that I don't think I had it better in Europe. Cheers to the chef. I had a Hungarian type gravy with paprika and peppers. Delicious. The red cabbage was excellent - not too sour or sweet. The spaetzle were fresh and just great. I had my gravy on the side in a small bowl as I wasn't sure what it would taste like. I would recommend for everyone to get the gravy on the side so you can share flavors. We were so full we forgot to try a dessert (next time). I am not sure how long Alpine Haus has been in business, but it was a great experience with delicious food. Good job.
Wow! A little slice of heaven. If you want to feel.like you are back in Germany, this place does the trick. The food was so good and absolutely authentic. The people and the atmosphere made the entire experience wonderful. We couldn't have picked a better place to celebrate my wife's birthday. Thanks for a great experience.
Very nice atmosphere. Dinner was great. Sorry no picture but couldn't wait to dig in. A nice meal and experience. Husband and myself loved it

We celebrated our 11-year wedding anniversary with Alpine Haus tonight. It was our first time dining there. When we booked our reservation last week, I informed the hostess on the phone of our special occasion, and again when calling to confirm our reservation today. When we arrived, we were seated by the manager I’m assuming, who simply asked us our name and quickly whisked us away to our table. Not once during the entire meal did a staff member recognize our anniversary. I didn’t expect our server to know, because I doubt she was even informed. This review would have been a 5-star experience, but at $100 per person after tip for two people, I find that pretty unacceptable. Additionally, we had been looking forward to Apple streusel for dessert, and all they had left at 6:30 pm on a Saturday was alpine cake. This experience aside, the food and our server were all wonderful. The jager-rahm schnitzel and beer selection were fabulous and the vinaigrette they use on their side salad is so good we bought a quart! The live accordion musician singing German songs was also a very nice touch. Overall, if you’re craving authentic German cuisine, Alpine Haus is the place to get it. I would choose to have your special occasion elsewhere however, because the hospitality just isn’t there for the price point and your special day simply will go forgotten and unrecognized.
Really good German food. Small so get a reservation. Really liked our server. Sadly, they did not have Strudel or cake. If this is what you aree going for call ahead.

Charming 1800s house with old world service and traditional German recipes! One of the last remaining reminders of New Braunfels German culture.

Today was my 4th time coming here & very disappointed with my rouladen. The man in my party was very disappointed with his Saurbraten and potato balls. The bill was about $123 after tax before tip. The other woman in my party liked her Scnitzel. The saurkraut and marbled rye is the best. It took a good while for the bread to come out to the table the initial time, but I appreciate the refills. I don't know if this time it was a not so good cut of meat or if my meat was overcooked or undercooked or if it was just a different cook in the kitchen. Very different this time. My meat was tough, rubbery, very fatty, and there were very many clumps of onion with the pickle spears. The onion seemed undercooked, many crunchy and some tough & unchewable. The rouladen was way off today & didn't satisfy my craving that I drove from San antonio, TX to have today. I noticed from the time I tried to cut into it to let others have a taste. I needed up taking 3/4 of it home & recooked it in the air fryer. Didnt help much. We didn't want to send our plates back to wait for something else or get "special" replacements so we "toughed" it out lol. I came for rouladen. His saurbraten was tough and dry. I appreciate the marbled rye and saurkraut are always delicious. I appreciate the bread refills & the real butter pats. The waitress was nice. Last time I got a glass of wine.I didn't know was $15 And it might have been filled a third of the way. I won't do that again. The dessert was pretty good. A few times ago, my family bought extra loaves of the Rye bread. They probably buy it from a local bakery. Not sure If we could go to that bakery and get it or if they only sell to the restaurants. I wish either the bread or the butter was a little bit warm, so the butter would spread easier but I really love the bread And that butter. Hopefully If and when I make it back again, it will be better next time since It is pretty expensive even though most of the meals are large portions , except for the goulash/stew I got 1x, I could have eaten more of that for the price. Also, I notice that the rouladen seems to be different sizes each time lol. Maybe next time I get the pork schnitzel. The spaetzle, potato balls and gravy are ok. I just didn't care for the red cabbage or the fried potatoes. Haven't tried the warm potato salad yet. I didn't eat about half of my rouladen :/ I got tired of picking thru it and spitting grissle out. Couldn't just eat it with a fork like the tines before.
We decided to go here and try it out for our anniversary, after hearing it was the best authentic German food. The atmosphere in the restaurant is very pleasant and has a nice German look and appeal. The salad was fresh and somewhat close to a German salad. Our food was piping hot and kinda resembled the schnitzel from Germany. The schnitzel had no seasoning on it but a lot of gravy. I love splizel (noodles) but only received a small amount. We heard a lot about the dessert so I asked about the dessert. Sadly we were informed they had no dessert. I said are you serious and was told there were none by our waiter. I said what a way to spoil an anniversary. He said Happy Anniversary and walked away. Being in Germany for over 10 years sadly this was not it for us.
We went to the Alpine for our office holiday lunch, and honestly, it was a bit underwhelming. The food is somewhat overpriced, though the portions are generous. I ordered the Cordon Bleu Schnitzel, which was pretty good, but the potato dumplings were bland and the gravy was a little watery. I should've chosen the fried potatoes my coworker had—they looked much better. I also tried the cabbage: the portion was generous, but it was completely flavorless. Our waitress, Kim, was wonderful—very attentive and helpful with menu suggestions. I'll probably only return with the office, since my coworkers seem to love it. Atmosphere, decor and service was great. Our server was very sweet and attentive. Now, I’m German (not german descent or born in Germany and raised in the US). I only moved to the US 12 years ago and absolutely know what simple German food should taste like. First things first, the baked Brie was amazing, definitely enjoyed it BUT its traditionally served with compote Lingonberries. Now if that’s not available Cranberries will do, but raspberry jam? Seems lazy and cheap to me. Nonetheless we really enjoyed it and was willing to actually just ignore the jam. Now onto the The Schweinebraten. Oh my. First things first. The sauce, gravy whatever you want to call it was barely existent, Color was off (nice dark color would be ideal) and there war zero flavor. I had to add so much salt and pepper to even make it edible. But then I cut into the meat and lets just say it was dry as an off tasting that I had to order something else. The waiter was super nice and let me order a Schnitzel which I enjoyed, but here again the breading (Panade) definitely lacked flavor. (A little s&p is all it needs). The dumplings were ok, nothing special. Definitely had better. Bratkartoffeln are just fried potato cubes. Now onto to the Cordon Bleu. My husband was first shocked to see the cheese and ham laying on top of the super thin Schnitzel and we laughed it off since we never tried it like that before, but was disappointed with the first bite. It’s definitely a lazy and overpriced schnitzel that I could have cooked better myself. The special thing about a cordon bleu is when you cut in and the gooey cheese melts from in between your two layers of schnitzel. There was non of that. One layer of thin schnitzel with a layer of cheese and ham on top. Takes less than 3 min to prepare this and therefore tasted absolutely underwhelming. For the price we paid we expected more and definitely better food. Overall this restaurant could do better as it’s a really simple menu. P.S. adding parsley to every dish is also lazy.

I was very disappointed with my experience at Alpine German Restaurant. I ordered the schnitzel with Jäger sauce, red cabbage, and spaetzle, and unfortunately the meal did not justify the high price point. The schnitzel itself was extremely thin, consisting mostly of breading with very little meat, and tasted primarily like fried coating rather than pork. The Jäger sauce tasted premade, lacking the depth and richness expected from a traditional preparation. The red cabbage was bland and seemed jarred rather than freshly prepared, and the spaetzle was overly greasy. As someone who grew up with German cuisine, this was particularly disappointing. Authentic German food should reflect quality ingredients and careful preparation, especially at these prices. The overall value felt poor, and the cost was frankly difficult to justify given the execution. For those looking for a strong schnitzel in New Braunfels, Fork and Spoon still delivers the better option in town
