Awesome place. Brianna was a total Rock Star. She is a big time credit to her craft of people skills and bar service. Food was excellent and beer was fresh and cold. We will be back to try different foods listed on their menu.

Best selection of craft beers in this city. Irish Pub Style Bar. Bartender was knowledgeable of craft beers. She played great music on the TouchTunes jukebox, so I got in on that, and spent 25 bucks myself playing music, and letting others choose. Great service. I had a really fun, chill evening.

Bar food was fantastic, seriously, we will come back just to eat, but add the amazing team, this is a MUST stop every time we visit New Braunfels! Hands down, Brianna is AMAZING! She had her hands full with our big crew but remembered everyone in our party in addition to everyone else. Amazing attitude and great to visit with! We will be back for sure!

Small pub. It’s a low-key local bar. Excellent food that they make in house (not frozen BS bar food) Always great friendly bartenders! One of the few bars in New Braunfels that has kept prices reasonable.

My husband and I just moved here from Houston two weeks ago. We came here to eat and have a couple of beers, thinking typical bar food at best, boy were we wrong. I had the polluck fish tacos and he had cordon bleu sliders and they were both so amazing. I would recommend the food and service 100%.

This is my favorite spot in the downtown New Braunfels area and very high on my all-time list. The ambiance is perfect, they have an excellent selection of draft beer options, the best Bloody Marys in town, and all the bartenders are always friendly and ready to serve. I highly recommend the Whale and hope to have a beer with you there someday!

If you like Bloody Marys, then you MUST try theirs!! It was delicious and a piece of art!! The food was great too, although the written menu is difficult to understand without going online and looking at the pictures of their food.

So many reviews about the Bloody's and they were right! Perfect for day drinkin'. Great atmosphere and Kayla was a wonderful host behind the bar. We will be back for the food very soon!

BEST BARTENDERS IN TOWN! BEST MANAGER IN TOWN! My girlfriend and I frequent this bar because of it's history and the people that work there and attend this bar as well... I highly recommend, if you are ever in New Braunfels, that you eventually make your way to this awesome local bar!

We had smashburger and chicken skewers both were excellent. I had chili added to my burger and it was good. Old Fashion was nicely made

This was the first time coming here, but the people that work here are so friendly and made me feel like I was one of the regulars. The customers were talking and joking amongst themselves, but there were some more private booths in the back! Will definitely be back next time I'm in town.

Great Pub when and awesome history behind it. Tons of haunted history if you are into that thing. Head over to the library to find out about that. Then grab a beer from the awesome bartenders. There is even a couple of hidden gems. Like a pool table and a outdoor patio. Check this place out !

Fish and chips had the best tartar sauce I'm pretty sure I have ever had. Staff was super nice and chill. We absolutely love this bar and hope to become regulars!

Some places don't try to get to know you. At the Whale you're extended family and its a good feeling. Shilo sets the pace and keeps the drama to a minimum and the bartenders are very attentive, one and all.I hope to have this comfortable establishment always there

I love this bar. I love how dark it is. I love the food here. The wings are amazing. This is where my wife and I end up at the end of our date nights. The customers who patronize this business are my kind of people. The bartenders are wonderful people from day one of this becoming our go to bar they treated us like old friends. Their alcohol selection is extensive and the bartenders are experienced.

Kayla had great energy and the food was amazing. We had the Poutini, Rueben sliders and beef on weck. All were very good but my favorite was the weck.

Brianna is the best bartender ever! She was so attentive and always checked in with us before our drinks were empty! I had the lobster roll which was delicious and my boyfriend loved the fish and chips! She even made different shots for me when I couldn’t decide what I wanted! Great atmosphere and music as well!

Our first time going was pretty great! We sat outside with a big group and had no problem getting drinks. The bartender was so nice, despite having to make our cocktails inside. Cocktails were made just right!

The bartender was amazing! I don't drink often and she made the perfect suggestion. My drink was delicious! The atmosphere was great. You can hang out at the big pretty bar or tuck into one of the nice little booths for a cozier experience. It's priced well and the service was immaculate.

We are in town visiting and saw a pub stopped in. It’s 14 of us…so I already feel when we walk in there like….thats a lot. But Brianna got our IDs check and bam went to work. I like this place because of the people. It's a simple drinking establishment with indoor and outdoor seating. Locals enjoy mostly it seems. Most impressive to me, at first visiting off my motorcycle and since is the care how the stewards took care of me especialy when drinking like if too much. I respect that so very much. They keep a good eye on that. Good people there.

Slipped in out of the heat for a cold one and it was a treat. Nice place and cool! There were several TVs going but in the booth we were sitting in it was quiet enough to talk so by my standards this place gets a top billing. When we walked back out into the expected heat a thunderhead had rolled in dropping the temperature by a quick 15 degrees and the walk to the car was quite pleasant.

Bailey was soooooooo awesome! I Was having a rough day and Bailey just lit up the room. She was friendly and efficient. The Wurst sampler was 10/10. Cant wait to come back!

It’s hard for me to say this, because if I leave an awesome review everyone is going to find my favorite watering hole, but at the same time the Black Whale Pub deserves all the praise. Without a doubt the best establishment in Downtown New Braunfels, with amazing food, great drinks, and the best staff around.

Shilo the owner is absolutely amazing. Super friendly, attentive, and genuinely makes you feel taken care of the whole time. You can tell they care about the customers and the energy of the place. My family visited New Braunfels from Corpus for Thanksgiving. We ordered the Thanksgiving meal from Black Whale Pub. The food was so incredible, we all agreed I needed to leave a review! From the creamy mashed potatoes to the pecan pie to the turkey, every single thing was absolutely delicious. The food tasted homemade from scratch. Our four adults and three kids all ate like crazy! There was a ton of food for the cost, which also happened to be a better price than any surrounding restaurants we could find. The cook was awesome and gave us direct instructions on reheating everything and even threw in some cranberry cornbread (also fantastic)! We will definitely be ordering from Black Whale Pub the next time we are in the area! Thank you for making our Thanksgiving so dang tasty!!

We stopped in to take a break from shopping. We did not expect the great experience we had. We started off with a couple of beers. They have a good selection of local beer as well as a full bar. Then we decided to share a sandwich, so we had the Beef On Weck. It was so good and filled us both.

We went in on a very busy Saturday. The bar was wrapped and all the tables full. The bartender, Bree, came out from behind the bar to tell us a table was closing out and to get our drink order. She was really great at managing the bar and the tables and keeping the friendly banter going in both places. The food was a cut above normal bar fare quality. The four of us ordered different plates and shared. We were all satisfied but the pork tenders stood out. We've been looking for a spot with good food and drink and service, and we found it. It's a 40 min drive for us but we will be making it often.

I found me exactly what I was looking for... Fish and Chips. The beer was poured perfectly, the Eagle Rare was priced nicely, and the food was great. No frills, no need for them. Just a good old bar with good bar food and good people working. Definitely will be back!

Heard so much about this local Pub, we just had to check it out, and we are so glad we did!! Met another couple there for drinks and dinner, and my first impression was great!! The atmosphere was cozy and fun, maybe even slightly nostalgic. We all had the Bloody Marys and I must say they were excellent!! Our waitress/bartender was on point so that was good. We got the homemade chips and beer cheese…..very good!! For entrees we ordered the Chicken Skewers with the Bloody Mary dry rub which were great as well!! Will definitely will be going back!!

This place doesn't have enough 5 star reviews. My girl and I traveled to the 'Black Whale Pub' on a Sunday aftternoon. The inside booths were entirely to small for me legs, but accommodations were made in the back where we got the fire dome turned on and ate Chicekn Skewers and a whalsandwhich. Great job Brianna Allen and awesome job to the cooks!!

Cool beer joint on the square in New Braunfels. Inside seating as well as a nice patio area outside. Small restroom so if it's packed you'll probably have to wait in line.

This is a fun laid back place with a nice back patio. Staff is welcoming and we didn't wait long for drinks. The only drawback is that it is hard to find seating for a party that is larger than four.

A nice collection of a eclectic cuisine, with an interesting selection of beers. It also sports a bar for the mixed drink enthusiast. Drinking and dining may be enjoyed at indoor and outdoor tables as well as stools at the bar.

Pretty cool little pub. Usually have live music on the weekends from local artists. Have a few bar games. An upstairs party room, available for rent if needed. Great drinks, I recommend a bloody Mary. Atmosphere is nice!

Popped in for a quick point on new Year's eve. The local crowd and friendly service will bring me back here upon my next visit to the area.

Food was delicious. Service was friendly albeit slow for a slow day. Double check your bartender if you need virgin drinks. Back patio is also nice but more people than tables so we went inside. :)

Friendly bar right in the middle of town. Robust selection of liquors and beers for your evening pleasure. Ample seating within the bar, outside in the patio, and even upstairs when it is open. We received great service from the wait staff while we waited out the rain. I ordered the fish and chips and it was very tasty. I heard good things about the Peruvian Chicken Skewers, but I wasn't able to try them for myself. I also hear that this was a great karaoke spot, but it wasn't going on while we were there. Maybe next time.

Service was great! Food was even better! Only downside is 1 ladies bathroom with 1 toilet.

Went in on a Tues night. They closed early cause it was slow. The manager who was working was nice to me. My friend however. She wasn't. I will say my friend is a hard person to deal with. But she let it be known many times how she didn't like em nor cared for him. I'm sure she's a sweet person. Just having a rough day. Said she just lost someone. So maybe in time she won't be so irritable by things and people. We both had food. It was delicious. She said they're a scratch kitchen. Everything is made to order and fresh. They also have a outside back area that's also available.

We have lived in New Braunfels since 2012 and this is the first time we have been here. Wish we had gone in sooner, food was very good and they offer plenty of beer options. Definitely recommend the fish and chips!

Intimate booth seating is nice. Kind of an ugly biergarten out back that faces the rear parking lot. Kinda feels like hanging out in your friends garage. Looks like there is a heater back there. Their bloody Mary is massive and delicious but full of all kinds of vegetables. Its like a meal in itself. They always play old music here, typical of the older party crowd, sometimes you get something good like rolling stones, dire straits, or pink Floyd but I'm not really into the genre as a whole. Tends to attract an older 40+ crowd but its new braunfels and I don't think there is a bar that really caters to any other age group. I think they play sports upstairs.

$5 for stickers? The bartender said "I'll give you two for one." My personal opinion is if you're buying drinks, maybe one free sticker? $5 for two stickers. If you're not a regular, you're not in the club at this bar.

The food tasted pretty good and the bartenders was very friendly. However, there was a strong stench and we think it may have been from the drains. We almost left.

Cute place. We went to the karaoke part upstairs. It was cute but very small. If you have any type of claustrophobia it may be a problem. It gets extremely packed.

Food was mediocre, but service was great. <3 I got the fish and chips with a side salad- the fish was soggy so that was disappointing, and the fries were over cooked and wayyyy over salted even for fries. The salad was also weirdly salty??? I love Caesar salads but it felt very salty for some reason. My partner had the Beef on Weck, I took a bite of his and found it to be flavorless meat that was mostly just “texture” and cheese and onion, likely to disguise the lack of flavor in the meat. The actual chips were salted perfectly but a bit over cooked and many burnt. Considering every other review says the food is amazing I plan to come back another day and see if it’s any better.

The family and I went here to eat on a Saturday afternoon and was turned away immediately because we had a 2 year old. We wanted to sit down and have lunch. The lady told us that anyone under 21 was too much of a liability. They must have recovered so quick after the pandemic that they can afford to turn away business. I guess I’ll have to wait 19 more years before we can go as a family for lunch.

It has been awhile since I have walked in and been served and helped in a timely manner. The bartenders are unfortunately rude most of the time.

Bartender appeared to be intoxicated. Place was packed wall to wall. The booths are nice and the restrooms were clean. Not the ideal setting for live music by any means.

First time visiting and the food was not that great. The fish and chips was not up to Amy standards. The beer batter was flavorless, and way undercooked. The ruben sliders were ok but nothing to rave about. The soft pretzels and beer cheese were good but way over salted. Was disappointed that there were not more Irish imports on hand like Magners cider. Will not be returning.

2 stars because the staff was friendly. Place smelled like a old mildew club, lighting was dark as if going to sleep or dark so people don’t notice how dirty this place really is but you can smell it. Just the smell alone was enough to not want to come back. If you like old, grungie, smelly, dirty bar, then come here. If you have a standard or just self respect, go somewhere else.

Upstairs is a joke. If your not flirting with the dj or a regular they barely let you karaoke. The dj lets people cut in front of you even tho he told you an hour ago that your next. This has happened every time. Then when it’s your turn to sing on stage....the regular weekend drunks are trying to sing with you on the other mic and the dj says nothing. While there I’ve heard others complain about the same thing. I’ve tried to give it a chance time after time but it never fails. Other than that the bar is a wonderful place and the bartenders are super welcoming but if your looking for karaoke you might wanna look somewhere else if you aren’t a regular here.

Our first bartender holly (i think. Tall blonde) was great then the bartenders changed to a bearded guy that passed us by 4 times and served around us. Let's say we are else were and to bad for holly as we would have stayed longer and tipped 30%.

My husband and I brought our friends who are visiting in town. We talked the place up beforehand because we come here often and never had any issues. Rosemary was rude to us all and slammed our waters to the table making it known we weren't welcome. It was embarrassing and I resent bringing them. I will no longer go back.

Weather was nice, restaurant door was open. Two men went outdoors to smoke their cigarettes. I'm allergic to cigarette smoke and was not able to eat my meal. Paid our bill and left the Black Whale.

I noticed that the flat top looked a dirty and made a comment to the friend I was with and the manager overheard and kicked us out. Where I've been you don't attack your customers for noticing something. This was highly unprofessional. Such a shame because otherwise it was pleasant and the bartenders were freindly.

Me and my wife tried to visit here tonight and were turned away. Was quite embarrassing, the door guy was less than polite. Wish we had a chance to talk to the manager. We love visiting New Braunfels and have frequented Wurstfest and other local establishments for many years. One less stop to consider next time.

Our group of 6 came in and the bartender was incredibly rude and condescending. She was targeting myself in particular because I was speaking loudly. She was unnecessarily telling me "sweetie I could ask you to leave". We were not being rowdy. We were not being crude. We were just talking with friends. We were only here for about 30 seconds before she continued to share her sense of authority and telling me she could ask me to leave again when I questioned why I would be asked to leave. It was unnecessary and had no reason. We left on our own because she obviously didn't want us there to begin with. I've never in my life been asked to leave a bar or been treated this way by a bartender. It was absolutely absurd.

Double charged my card. I called in four times and was still unable to get a hold of the manager. When I finally got hold of someone who said they could reverse the charge, they refused to do so because they claimed the payment had still not fully processed (meaning that it was processing, not that the charge had not gone through).

Good luck getting anything to drink. Not sure if it was racist or just stupidity on the female bartender last night. Maybe both. After discussing the different types of bourbons she all of a sudden decides she cannot serve one of our friends. We clearly were not causing any issues and had a DD sitting right beside us. First and last time visiting this dump of a place! Good luck getting service

Walked in and sat at the bar. The bartender came over to us and started talking and some other people walked in and she immediately stopped talking to us, said a very excited hello to the people barely through the door, and took their drink order before they even sat down. Needless to say we got up and left, and not until we were out the door did she try to acknowledge us. This isn’t a post to be a “Karen” just really bad service, especially since I’m a bartender as well. I get saying hi to regulars but when you’re already talking to a customer maybe just finish up with them first. Let me add this was during the day and there were only 2 other people in the bar when we sat down. So she had plenty of time to get to her “friends” after us.
