Opinions de Calahan's Pub & Pizza New Braunfels
Went this Saturday for the 1st time while in town visiting. Loved the vibe of the pub and great staff. We had the 20 inch sausage and pepperoni pizza. I grew up in Chicago, this was the best pizza I’ve had in 20+ years living in Texas!
Best pizza I've ever had, me and kids get it weekly. My picky grand daughter loves the pepperoni rolls. The service and atmosphere is perfect for NB and us locals are so greatful.
Real great pizza and beer. Full bar as well.
I've been to this place twice. And both times were great. If I lived in NB I bet I'd come here at least once a week. Pizza is Great! One is enought for two people and gives you some to take back to your room @ Schlitterbahn :) Lots of cold beer to choose from or the bartenders can make you any drink you want. Bartenders and all the staff are super friendly and make you feel like you're local as well. Speaking of the locals....always meet friendly people at any of the restaurants in town and this place is no different.
This is such a hot spot for us and our friends and family. It’s never super busy compared to other local bars and hands down the best pizza in town. We love to hang out here and grab some drinks. Always hits the spot and always great and friendly service.
Best pizza in town! I go all the time. Try the pizza rolls worth it I promise. Decent beer selection too!
Callahan's has always been one of my favorites. Amazing pizza rolls, good drinks and friendly staff. Everything is cooked to order so sometimes food can take a bit longer, but it so worth it once you taste it. They also have a cool patio in the back you can bring your dogs too.
After a night out bar hopping, this is the place to come before heading home for the night. The pizza rolls and the pizza just hit! I'm definitely coming back here next time I'm in New Braunfels!
Was so lucky to find this place thanks to my daughter and son-in-law living in the area while we are visiting. I am a thin crust pizza girl and this really delivered. All topping are fresh and crust is crisp but not overdone. Nice beers on tap. Due to covid you order at the bar. Thanks for a great experience!
Very good pizza, not just for an Irish joint either. Great flavor, thin crust was extra crispy. Be warned though: we LOVE spicy hot wings but the last few restaurants have disappointed. SATANS BLOOD hot wings are worthy of being on Hot Ones 😳. Great flavor, but keep your chapstick handy. Will order from here again and again!
The absolute best pizza in town! I've tried em all & none come close to the flavor, the freshness of the ingredients & vegetables, & the crust. The salads & pizza rolls are delicious as well. The atmosphere is super chill & the staff was friendly and professional. The drinks are perfect also!
Calahans is a bit of a local dive, but don't let that stop you. The staff and people are friendly, the back patio is a great spot to catch a game, but the most important thing about this place? The pizza rolls.... iPod pizza rolls from all sorts of places, but I promise you these are the best I've ever had even beating out DoubleDave's.
This was my first time here and it was with a group of friends for my birthday! The food, service, and drinks were all on point! Their pizza, dough chips, and pizza rolls were amazing! All had great flavors and were delicious! Their drinks were made great as well! I truly enjoyed this establishment and highly recommend it I will definitely be back! SOON!
The inside was packed with no available seating on a Saturday at dinner time but the back patio had plenty of room. It was really hot outside but with the awning and swamp cooler it was just fine. Bartender was super cool and gave great recommendations. He did warn us that the food would likely be about 40 min due to how busy it was but with such a variety of draft beer available it gave us plenty of time to keep ourselves occupied. When the food did arrive it was really delicious. We went for the hand tossed crust which was amazing. We saw a thin crust pie being delivered to another table and it looked really good too. We liked that you get a discount on pizza rolls when you order a pie. Once we tasted the 'za it was very clear why the place was crowded. It's just damn good.
PIZZA ROLLS! First time visit. SOOO GOOD! Cold beer too :) I've heard only great reviews and had to go! Went there with my wife and 1 month old around 3p on a Friday. Perfect atmosphere and a good time to go with the little one. Wings are next in my list to try. Also looks like my kind of place after 9p when it's 21 and up only. Next time the family is in town, I know where I'll be taking them.
The pizza was amazing, drinks were good, we'd definitely recommend this place for food and beer
What more can be said about this amazing, New Braunfels go to pizza joint? Everything about Calahan's is top notch! We especially love the outdoor bar area, and the atmosphere(both in and out) is simply the best!! Word to the wise during the summer tourist season...get there early, or call ahead for the best experience as this place gets really busy!
Everything about this place is awesome! Hands down best pizza rolls in town! I personally prefer them over Inferno's but also the vibe is great in here. They have a decent selection of beer and even a pool table area where you just pay in Quarters. My husband and I will forever come here!
This place is fantastic! The service was great, the atmosphere was just like an old west style bar. The food though, is what will bring me back as it was the cherry on top! The pizza rolls are to die for. Never had these before, but plan to again for sure. Be warned though. They are big! 3 adults and one child were well served by 12 and we had four left over, which tasted great too! And they keep the place ice cold, which is great when coming in out of the Texas heat!! Want some old Texas charm, service and great food? Then this is the place. They do serve other food as well, but couldn't pass on the pizza rolls!
Local favorite. Everyone has been so kind and professional in this friendly pub. I’m not even sure what to call this fun downtown pizza and full bar location but as a newbie to New Braunfels, I am glad I’ve been getting my amazing pizza and drinks here. Pizza is that crispy kind that reminds you of the 80s when everyone knew to make pepperoni nice and crispy. Smiles and families before 9pm.
Did not expect this place to as big as it is. Multilevel rooftop bar with great atmosphere. Very creative setup and super friendly staff. Really enjoyed the place and its overall vibe!
Pizza rolls are huge and puffy, stuffed with cheese and pepperoni, and will having you coming back to satisfy that craving. The cheese pizza, a classic the showcases the great dough recipe, and the cheese is flavorful and layered perfectly. I also rave on the Chicken Alfredo pizza, as the robust savory flavors and buttery crust makes you want more. It does take about 30-60 minutes for you pizza to be made fresh, but the wait is absolutely worth it! This is my second time back.
My go-to place for some Pizza! Delicious pizza, good on-tap options and cool vibes for checking out the downtown scenery with their big windows 🍕🍺
My Fiance and I have been coming here a couple times a week for the past few weeks. The food is spectacular and the service is great. We had a food quality issue last night, which was quickly resolved by Elissa. She is very attentive and we appreciated her help! Definitely coming back for more meat rolls!
I've been eating pizza here since it opened, and I've been drinking beer here before there was pizza. Some how the pizza keeps improving every single year. The Butcher Block (thin crust) is my favorite. Boggles my mind that I haven't try anything but the pizza rolls and the BB.
Great pizza . Great staff. Brian and Rachel are amazing people and run a great ship.
I have NEVER had a better pizza. The sauce was excellent and robust, the cheese had stretch, the crust was lightly buttered. I had to take it to go, but it traveled well and from the first bite me and my boyfriend loved it. The scent is what drew us to this place as we were walking by and the inside of the place is great. Hardwood floors, a good amount of tables and chairs and decor that absolutely fit the place. They even have pool tables so if you wanted to you could enjoy your drinks and play a few rounds. Definitely a place to unwind and enjoy. Come for the food stay for the pool.
Pizza and pizza rolls are unreal! Really the only reason I go here Is bc of the pizza rolls and pizzas. The staff however is rather rude, and crabby. And this is not based on just a one bad day run in with a rude bartender etc. they’re consistently unfriendly, and it comes across as if they would rather be somewhere else. So don’t get you hope up that the food matches the attitude here. They don’t do half pizza customization with their specialty pizzas, so you have to build your own. Which comes out more expensive. It’s a joke, and they inform you while they roll their eyes bc it makes you question their logic behind that idea. Good pizza and pizza rolls are worth it in my Opinion. However don’t go in with the expectation of friendly atmosphere. Just pick up and take it home.
Pizza is top notch! Service and atmosphere were AWESOME! We are from Houston. Search out pizza joints on all our travels. This is MOST DEFINITELY a return again establishment!
I come here often and just have to give a shout out to some AMAZING bartenders! Granger and sierra are AMAZING!!! I’m in the industry in the area, and they are so professional, knowledgeable about drinks, so welcoming, and are very prompt with orders no matter how busy they are. They are so attentive. For being a casual kind of bar, I feel like a five star guest every time I come in! Keep up the good work granger and sierra 🫶
We love the pizza rolls. We come and get them every few months. Service is always great and quick.
We live in SA but we LOVE the pizza rolls here!!!! Whenever we can we will order about a dozen rolls to take home to the family. Their pizza is great too but my kids are partial to the pizza rolls so those are always a must!
Blanca made the best espresso martinis!| recommend asking her to make you one if you go here. I've had them at The Sidecar before and they are just not as good. Blanca said it's her favorite drink to make and it shows! 100% will go here again just for the martinis.
This is BY FAR my favorite place in New Braunfels. They have the best outdoor patio that has secluded seating, they're always playing great music, and their pizza is to die for. I swear by and would die for this place.
We had such a great experience at Calahan's Pub and Pizza in New Braunfels! Not only was the food absolutely delicious, pizza was hot, fresh, and full of flavor. My son had just lost his shirt at the waterpark, when we got here, they kindly told us he needed a shirt to dine in. Before I could even stress, they said not to worry and gave us a brand new shirt, no questions asked. That kind of kindness and customer care is rare and so appreciated. Great food, amazing people, and a place we’ll definitely be coming back to.
Definitely my new favorite pizza place. We had the butcher block pizza on thin crust & and order of pizza rolls. Crust was perfect, perfect crispness. Pizza rolls are full of flavor and big enough to be a meal on its own. Definitely bigger than the usual pizza roll appetizers at other places. I love that you can bring kids in during the day. Customer service is great everyone was very friendly.
Amazing pizza rolls and pizza pies! Great service and atmosphere! Calahan’s is one of our go to spots downtown. It’s our tradition to come and have pizza and pizza rolls after we float the Comal River. They also have a great Greek salad. First couple of days off when I’m home I always have to go get a thin crust pepperoni and jalapeño pizza!
Calahan's is a great place to just hang out with a beer or cocktail. Typically there is a game on the TV. Casual and welcoming. I really have to try the gluten free pizza sometime. I just can't get past the cocktails to get to the food. Give it a go!
I’ve been here a couple times. Pizza is ok, beer by the pitcher is nice, but the service is meh. You don’t walk away saying to yourself, “wow that was great”. There’s better pizza and service close by.
I go every few weeks. The pizza rolls are my FAVE 🤤 The bartenders are always friendly when I go. My go to spot for pizza and rolls. I love this place is versatile. We can have mommy dates with the kids during the day or have group hang outs after hours for adult nights. (No kids after 9pm)
Been going to Calahans for the food. Service has always been an issue. Last night, they had a guy name Wade and he was awesome! Attentive, putting the customer first, and having conversation while taking our order and making our drinks! Don't lose him, Calahans! Good food plus good service makes for a great time!
Looks like a bit of dive bar from outside but nice enough inside. Lost a star because shiner bottle was 7.50 which is way more than other bars in town that are nicer. Too expensive for what it is.
The pizza here is delicious! Their garden delight is my favorite, I just wish they would let you get it with green olives instead of black olives, kinda like how you can choose between fresh or sun-dried tomatoes. Service is a little slow and the lady behind the bar could be friendlier. There are not as many places to sit if you’re a group of two without taking up a huge table. It would also be nice if there were more draft cider options. Otherwise, it’s a great place!
Such a yummy change of pace from the main chains. The pizza is delicious and we love the pizza rolls. A few times the rolls haven't been thoroughly cooked, with raw dough in the middle however this isn't always the case (as with the picture below). When they are cooked properly it is 100% the best pizza rolls ever. Their house made ranch is amazing.
How have we missed this gem in New Braunfels? I thought we had tried all of the area pizza places, but this surprised us. The “kitchen sink” pizza was excellent, along with the good variety of beers on tap. The ambiance is certainly old school pub-style, but that comes with being in the historic Main Street area. The had as many orders go out the door as dine-in customers, so they must do a good job of prepping take-away food. We’ll be back, along with friends next time!
This is O.K. Not bad….not great. Service was ok. Not warm but ok pace. The pizza was pretty good. For a bar the selection of beers was lame. Mostly national beer and very few craft beers on tap. They were also light on the alcohol in their mixed drinks. It does have a pool table and dart boards
There's a lot to like about this place, both the pizza and drinks are very good. What I didn't like was: (1) trying to order a 16" gluten free pizza that my wife and I could share, but they only made them in 10" so I had to buy 2 pizzas and (2) my wife doesn't like green peppers, so I tried to substitute green olives for the green peppers but they wouldn't do it unless I basically ordered a 'build you own' pizza by specifying all of the ingredients. Both cost more. Not sure I'll go back.
Their drinks and service are good. I liked the pizza rolls a lot. The lime they put in my margarita was bitter and strange tasting but I still enjoyed the margarita. The one thing about this place is that a double of liquor costs $25, which is insane. They also don’t give you an itemized bill so you get handed your extremely expensive check and have no idea why it costs so much. I’ll be coming back here for the food but not the drinks
Beware, $9 a for a pimt of Guinness; service and pizza are good though.
We showed up a group of 10 at 10:50pm and they got upset we asked for food. They said kitchen was open til 11 and bar open til 1. They said they’d only give us 1 order of food from our group of 10… awful business sense and terrible service. Good food but terrible employees that don’t understand make money when you can. We had 10 grown men ready to order a dozen pizza rolls each and they only allowed us to order 1 dozen. If I was the owner I would be pissed about the missed opportunity because employees didn’t want to do a little extra work, 1 night. Owner wasn’t here, but if they were, would have asked why not make money when it’s here in your face.
Thin crust pizza over cooked. If I had ordered it I would have sent it back. I ordered pizza rolls -delicious. While closing tab our designated driver ordered another Jameson on the rocks. Both his wife and I said no that he was driving but Rachel served him anyway. That cost her a decent tip. Not a fan of this establishment
Food was good atmosphere was what one would expect from a sports bar. Service on the other hand was lacking, I've had better service and a fast food restaurant than here! We ordered drinks and NEVER got them it seemed like the bartender just didn't want to serve up our drinks.
$7.14 for one domestic bottle of Michelob. Rude staff who treat regulars disrespectfully. This place has really gone downhill. Go somewhere else! DO NOT RECOMMEND.
Went here for my friend’s birthday. The waitress was rude & had an attitude everytime we ordered food/drink. If you like waiting 10 minutes for a beer to be poured & 45 minutes for a pizza you’ll love it here. Do not come here unless you’re looking for college grade service.
This place is way over price. It’s been a while since I’ve been here and probably will be a while till I come back. One drink and an order of meatballs (which were small, dry and not that great) cost $28. My drink was one shot of Lalo with lime and plain water…$14. That is absolutely ridiculous. Lalo is good but not that good where it’s top shelf. A 700ml Lalo is roughly around $42 and that is the bottle they had. So $14 per shot they are making $224. This is way more expensive than it should be for a drink.
The staff was noticeably unfriendly, and when we asked specific questions about the types of pizza available, they responded in a dismissive and condescending manner, making us feel as though our questions were unwelcome or foolish.
I’ve come here many times before and had positive experiences, but this time was very different. I came here with my friends to get some pizza after floating the river. We did not order alcohol, we only ordered pizza. My friend had a headache after being in the sun all day and a bald man who was running food to tables came over and SCREAMED at her for having her head down. I understand that as a bar you have to be mindful of your patrons and ensure nobody is too drunk, but this man was clearly on a power trip and it was absolutely inappropriate. We will not be back.
Food was below average, especially since we didn’t take any leftovers home. Surprised that the wait was so long, considering the quality of the food. All the staff had negative attitudes, making passive aggressive comments as they were serving us, just overall not a great experience. Save your money (and time) and just go to Infernos in Gruene.
Don't eat here. These people yelled at and kicked out my brother and his wife because she had a driver's license that was 7 days expired and would not serve her even though she's legal age. They were polite and courteous to the waiter and staff but the staff were rude and cruel to them and treated them like children - belittled them in front of the whole restaurant, made a scene, yelling and screaming at them... Horrible people, do not recommend, absolutely awful. Can't believe anyone would treat their customers this way.
Ordered an appetizer that states it comes with a side dipping sauce, it doesn’t say that you need to order a certain amount to receive a dipping sauce or if your order so many they are going to include less dipping sauces.. which is exactly what happened and when asked to include what was stated in the menu the only answers were excuses and up charges for extra dipping sauces from the original order.
The hospitality was terrible. Bartender acted as if she hated her life... didn’t greet us when we approached the bar to order, make eye contact or even smile. Definitely do not recommend.
I'd heard such great things about the pizza here. Went with my wife and daughter at lunch time on a Saturday. We went in and there were only 2 other tables already eating so the place was dead slow. We ordered a 12 inch pizza, half cheese and half pineapple and red onion (my wife's choice of toppings) for my ladies and a meatball sandwich for me. After 20 minutes waiting in a dead eatablishment, we start getting impatient. A couple more minutes waiting I get up to go to the bar to see where the hell the food is and they're coming out with it at long last. The pizza was half cheese and half PEPPERONI and red onion, despite my receipt clearly saying pineapple. We were hungry, so we decided to just eat it because we weren't waiting 30 more minutes for them to fix it. My meatball sub was not great. Meatballs were chewy, and the flavor wasn't great. Pizza was also just ehh. No excuse to get the food wrong and take so long when the place is dead, on top of being average at best. Needless to say we won't be back
Ordered 1 pizza and 2 cokes, and I’ve been waiting 45 minutes and counting… And they came to told me to wait 10 more minutes. They didn’t even offered me a treat or something as excuse for the wait… I guess that’s why they charge you FIRST, and then fulfill the order
Last time coming here! The reputation for ordering at the bar is that they always overcharge. Next time you pay notice that you get two receipts but neither are detailed. When you notice that something looks odd about your total, ask for the detailed receipt. They most often make an expensive mistake. I am over having to play the “may I have the detailed receipt game” here and finding they “made a mistake”.
Who knows about the food. Took over 30 minutes for an appetizer. I can get a beer anywhere. Nothing special. Won't be back
You'd think after 25+ years in business, they would have figured out a way to get 6 pizza rolls out in less than 1.5 hours. Saturday night is definitely a busy night for them, and has been for 28 years. How have y'all not figured out how to speed up ticket times, knowing what a Saturday night looks like, for almost 3 decades? Every order took 1+ hours, even for one pizza, let alone half a dozen pizza rolls😂😂😂 great food, great staff, and atmosphere, but absurd wait times. Order takeout.
Don't go on a random Friday evening unless you want to wait 15 minutes for someone to take your drink order and be told that its over a 1 hr wait for food. Unexceptional service considering I was at the bar flashing cash. All the staff wanted to express was how bad their day was an continually passed us over for table drink orders. The only plus side was the Guinness was poured correctly. I will not be going back.
Got a simple pepperoni pizza and 2 pizza rolls. The pizza and the roll weren’t cooked through. Both were still doughy but the pizza rolls were so undercooked we didn’t eat them the pizza was just chewy. Also supposed to get two sauces with your rolls and then We ordered two extra. So supposed to have 4 sauces only received one. And side note the spicy marinara is just marinara with hot sauce added. Photo is from after we put them in our oven for awhile.
I have been coming to Calahan’s for years. Their food has always been solid. Drink prices amazing. Tonight, not so much. It’s 7pm-ish, not busy, no line. We decide to order off the menu, 4 shot specials, 2 espresso martinis, a gimlet, and food, apologize for my large order. The bartender takes our order. As I’m standing there waiting for my order I overhear her talking to another customer saying “what is this the sidecar?” While making my drinks. I felt extremely uncomfortable and unwelcome after that, even if it’s not directed at me it’s not something I should have to hear. I’ve never felt so uncomfortable at calahans before. She’s right, I should go to Sidecar from now on.
Came here for date night dinner and a few drinks… come to find out that some of the beers that were not priced out in the fridge were $20 dollars, no kidding. Asked the server if that was a mistake, but it wasn’t. I also asked to speak to a manager or owner, but conveniently none were around. It is absolutely ridiculous charge that amount for a fruity beer and not have clear prices displayed anywhere. All, please avoid a costly mistake coming here. Pizzas are ok, also on the high price end, $25 for a 16” pie… Will definitely not come back and won’t recommend this place. Owners are just getting too greedy! Disappointing to have such establishments in this community.
