Opinions de Old Krause Building New Braunfels
We stopped by Krause’s Café for breakfast on a cold Saturday morning and really enjoyed it. There was a fun farmers market happening outside, and it was nice to step into a warm, cozy restaurant afterward. The atmosphere was inviting and comfortable. The food was very good overall. I ordered the traditional egg platter, which was solid and satisfying. The apple fritters were tasty but a bit doughy for my preference. The standout, though, was the Bloody Mary — absolutely amazing and well worth ordering. Our server, Amber, was super friendly and helpful, especially when it came to recommending places to visit around New Braunfels after breakfast. Later in the day, they even had live music, which added to the fun vibe of the place.o A great stop for breakfast with a lively atmosphere and friendly service.
Reuben fries were exceptionally crispy and of course the Reuben that went with it perfectly tender and yet not too overwhelming. Attentive bartender. Ambience of the beer garden was pretty cool. Had some very smooth dunkles
Absolutely the best quality food and service. Everyone here is extremely kind and helpful. It's a big place, so it can get busy during holidays and weekends, but the staff are always accommodating and professional, while still being friendly and fun. There is always something fun or festive happening in the evenings, and the happy hour is usually from 4-6 on the weekdays. Great for lunch, business meetings, friendly catchups, huge family dinners and so much more. 5 stars all the way!
Krause's Cafe was a fun experience for my whole family. We chose to sit outside and listen to the live music. My children are picky eaters and they ate all of their food. We all ordered something different and tried as much as we could. Everything was so delicious. We will definitely be going back. Sorry I don't have more photos, when the food came out it looked so appetizing that we all just dug in.
Delicious food with a unique flavor! Love the variety of dishes you can get here. My favorite was the pretzel :)
Great German Experience. Our first time to visit. Our waitstaff, she was very attentive and made good recommendations. Food was fresh and the sausage sampler was tasty with flavorful seasoning. My wife wanted to taste a bit more vinegar flavor in the sourkrout but she knows this a personal preference. We bought 4 lbs of (4 different kinds of sausage) to take home and enjoyed it that evening at home. We saw that serve breakfast and have live bands on weekends so we will definitely be back again soon. -JR
We came here for the first time on January 18th. We came here for dinner and the food we had was very very good. It was much better than we expected. There are a lot of really good beer selections too. The young lady that was our waitress was very friendly, informative and attentive. We will definitely come back as often as we can.
This is a wonderful, kid friendly, live music having, 100 plus beer option, inside or outside sittin' kinda place. Went on a saturday around noon. There was a fast moving line to get your name on their list. 5 minutes later we were texted w our available table. On some Saturday mornings , a farmers market is also happening in the same parking lot. The food is great, German style dishes. Our server was great. We chose to sit outside on a warm Jan day. They offer flights of beer, and of course, the big mugs as well. Parking all around for 3.00 for 2 hours, $5 for a litgle more or $9 plus change w taxes for 24 hours. But there is also plenty of free parking (less during market days/hours).
We came to celebrate the New Year. Our group shared the large Bavarian pretzel, KARTOFFELN, SAUSAGE & BIER CHEESE, and sausage plate entree. The beer wall never disappoints. Parking on site and being able to get it validated for the entire time we were there was great. Our waitresses Madison & Amber were perfect, any questions we had, made recommendations that were helpful, and ensured that each person in our group had the best experience possible. We will definitely come back!
We tried Krause's for the first time, and we were back 4 days later. They have the largest beer tap selection I have ever seen, and half priced German beers on Tuesday... the day we returned. The best pretzel I've ever had, also half priced on Tuesday. Brussel sprouts are way too delicious to be healthy... we ordered them on both visits. Jalapeño Cheese Venison Burger is gourmet, not gamey. Texas Schnitzel with jalapeño cream gravy is a duet of cultural cuisine. German Meatball and Rueben are must have. We loved the authentic German beers, especially the Festbier. We'll be back for my birthday! Prost! 🍺 🍻
They have such great atmosphere inside Krause’s Café. We sat out in the beer garden section to enjoy the live music, which was lots of fun. There were also two other dining areas, so plenty of seating for a multitude of people. They could easily handle large groups. FOr our meal, first, we ordered the large Bavarian pretzel and shared it. It comes with three mustard sauces to dip the pretzel into and they are all delicious especially the spicy one with a little horseradish in it. For our main course, we ordered the bratwurst pretzel platter which comes with sauerkraut, roasted brussels sprouts, a large pretzel with all the sauces to dip into and loads of bratwurst. It is easily enough to feed four hungry adults. Additionally, one person ordered the grilled chicken sandwich with fresh fruit, another ordered the biergarten salad, which comes with herb vinaigrette and we also ordered a spinach salad. Everything was so delicious that you really need to go there hungry to consume all of the food you are served. We would definitely go again!
Krause's in New Braunfels is a must-stop! This German beer garden offers a perfect blend of great food, refreshing drinks, and a lively atmosphere. Whether you're here for the pretzels, bratwurst, or just to enjoy the outdoor setting with a cold beer, it’s a fantastic experience. The friendly vibe and spacious patio make it a great spot to relax with friends or family. Highly recommend!
We love coming to Krause’s Cafe for the huge beer selection and food! As an added bonus, they have a vegan option we love—the sausage plate with Beyond Brats. It’s an extra $4 but a delicious treat! We drive over an hour to come here and always bring out of town guests. In all the times we’ve visited, we have never been disappointed.
I can't recommend this place enough! I've been only a handful of times and it is always fantastic. The atmosphere feels like you've taken a step into an Oktoberfest celebration, especially if you come on a weekend while there is live music in the patio area. Amazing beer selection and the staff are very knowledgeable in guiding you to the right beer if your unsure about trying something new. The food is always of high quality, and I haven't had anything off the menu that I didn't like. The parking can be a bit tight on the weekends so be aware of that, especially if you're coming later in the afternoon.
My family and I love coming here on Sundays, especially during the farmer market days. Their breakfast is filling and delicious. We get the usual chocolate chip pancakes, biscuits and gravy, and the skillet. We especially love the open area as it creates a welcoming atmosphere for the family.
A dining room, a beer hall, and a beer garden —take your pick. Their massive list of beers focuses on German brews but has features many Texas brews too. As the Bavarian custom, two sizes are available: liter or half liter mug. My Munchen Hofbrau Dunkel went well with delicious sausages, sauerkraut, and potatoes. Next time I may try one of the schnitzels. Seating is mostly in long rows of wooden tables, which is authentic for a beer hall. Waiters were courteous and attentive just sit down and they will come find you. The polka band was entertaining but rather strange with its accordion versions of Free Bird and Purple Rain. Prices were reasonable. Frankly the beer was priced to drink all night. I genuinely enjoyed it. It’s not Bavaria, but it expresses the German heritage of this Texas town.
I’ve lived in Germany and been to several beer hall/gardens in the United States. This spot is definitely a gem. There are a variety of seating options available. A great place to bring a large group or kids. There’s a very large menu with many options including several things that are vegetarian. We only wanted to get drinks and some light snacks and enjoyed spatzle, kraut and a pretzel. The flags that are hanging all around the main hall are from founding families of the area and they list the state of Germany that the family originated from. Definitely worth the drive!
My husband and I shared the pork shank, Texas Schnitzel and a beer flight - his favorite being the Chasing Broncos. Overall quick service, pleasant waitress and decent German fare. Would done here again 👍🏼
I love Krause's breakfast, so I decided to stop by for lunch today. My boyfriend ordered the sausage sampler appetizer for us to share. It was okay, but I probably won’t be ordering it again. There wasn’t enough sausage to really be called a sampler. While there were plenty of sauces and bread, I was expecting a little more variety in the sausages. I was also surprised to see saltine crackers on the plate; I expected a better cracker or pita chips—literally anything other than plain saltines. For my meal, I had the spinach salad with salmon and a bacon balsamic dressing, which was delicious. The portion was perfect; I felt full but not overly stuffed, and the salmon was cooked just right. My boyfriend ordered the steak sandwich and was very happy with his portion. He said the steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare and, like me, he felt full but not too stuffed. Our waitress was amazing—friendly and helpful. I believe her name was April. She made sure we got our parking validated and checked on us several times. Our drinks were continuously refilled. I will definitely be stopping by for lunch again, although I’ll probably choose a different appetizer next time. My only wish is that they served breakfast all day.
Having lived in San Antonio for 8 years, I never tried this place but was back for a trip to San Marcos recently. They have an incredible number of German beers on tap, and with pricing that is very reasonable given the import challenges. Beer came in a frosted mug and was delicious. I ordered the sausage sampler, and there were some things on the plate that were amazing, including the array of pickled cucumbers and peppers. Sausage was also quite good. Scratching my head as to why they would put saltine crackers and cubed domestic cheeses on the plate. Very there were three side slices of pumpernickel bread which was good. I did ask for butter but it was straight from the refrigerator so pretty hard to spread. Impressed with the service and atmosphere. Will go back and explore a little further in the future.
