Opinions de 12 Matcha New York
One of the best matcha you could find in nyc. The place would like to spend time to measure the matcha powder and water, use right ratio to mix it whisk the matcha by hands, and present you the amazing matcha, comparing lots of places just use blender or machine to make it, 12 matcha really takes care of their matcha drink. I also love their matcha basque cheesecake - creamy, soft, perfect texture and taste. Definitely good pair with their matcha.
Best matcha in NYC. I have never had matcha this smooth! The ambiance inside is incredible and the staff are all so friendly. This is such an amazing experience. Highly recommended!
Alright, I understand the hype now. This actually is a special place, mostly because of the service, ambience, and their obvious commitment to perfection. It feels like an experience. Quality wise: not too sweet and not a hint of bitterness in the matcha; it was super smooth and creamy. And they use 6g of matcha do they don't skimp out.
I’m actually coming back to leave this review after having matcha at 12 for the first time, loving the effect it had on me, and then trying matcha somewhere else. I only took two sips of the other one — it was sandy, lumpy, bitter, and undrinkable. By comparison, this is really, really good matcha. At 12, the place was packed, but I loved watching them prepare it right in front of us. A supervisor was even training someone on proper whisking technique — you can tell they care about quality. The matcha was creamy, buttery, perfectly smooth, and didn’t need any added sugar. The staff was incredibly kind as well. They noticed I had a bag and seemed unfamiliar with the space and offered me a tray, telling me to take my time. Despite being busy, it felt calm and peaceful. Kudos to the team. Five stars.
Superb experience!! Went there on a winter storm day and the place warms me up🥹 I got matcha latte and matcha basque cheesecake. They whisk your matcha in a performative and therapeutic way and the cheesecake is so rich in flavor. Absolutely recommend!!
Make sure to come with time! They usually have a line but it is so worth it. One of the best and purest matcha’s I had. They do put 6 grams of matcha powder unlike other places that put 3g, so keep that in mind.
I came on the recommendation of a friend and let me tell you - it did not disappoint. I arrived a little before noon on a weekday and there was a line outside of about 6 guests ahead of me. I waited a little less than 10 minutes to go inside but honestly I enjoyed passing the time appreciating the architecture of the building. This is one of the prettiest blocks and across from where Bohemian used to be (RIP to the best steak ever 😢). Anyways I digress. The whole experience was incredibly impressive - from the gorgeous ambiance (that staircase!) to the impeccable service - I was floored by how everything seemed to flow and move seamlessly. There are two floors and both floors were filled with guests enjoying the space and their drinks/pastries. I chose the matcha latte and was given a choice of sweetness level (I forget the term but I chose mildly sweet). After which I waited for the barista to call my name before watching the most detailed process of matcha-latte-making I’ve ever experienced. Look - this place is not for someone who is trying to grab a quick drink on the run but if you have the time, it is completely worth it. The quality of the matcha was incredible and the latte was smooth without a hint of bitterness. The matcha latte alone is worth a visit and was initially the only reason why I stopped in. I had zero intention of getting anything else but seeing the trays of basque cheese cake slices being carried up the stairs swayed me and I ended up getting two 🤗 - a matcha slice and a hojicha slice to share with the family later. Looking forward to coming back!
I usually only like strawberry/mango matchas and not plain matcha lattes, but this is TOP TIER. Best plain matcha latte in nyc. Rivals Off Peak for me Came on a Sunday at 10:30 am, and there was barely a line, but it started getting busier around 11 am. Overall vibe of the place is so nice - tall ceilings, spacious, good amount of seating. They make the drinks in front of you - like a mini experience. The barista was so nice! - Matcha latte w/ oat milk: 11/10, best matcha latte in nyc. Sweet, but not too sweet, and the actual matcha flavor is rich but not grassy or powdery. Very smooth and creamy
definitely worth the hype!! I was lucky enough to not have to wait in line & met up with my friend who also loved this place (even though she isn’t super into matcha!) the menu is really simple but their matcha is unreal! The green color was so vibrant and gorgeous! Also, the staff were really friendly and answer any questions you have. What really impressed me was the interior, layout, and space! From my experience, most matcha places (and cafes) in SoHo are really small but 12 matcha was relatively spacious and really well designed!
((4.75 stars)) 12 Matcha is where the traditions of matcha travel over the centuries since it was first brewed to modern day NYC. welcoming people to the matcha culture by sight, aroma, sounds, touch, and taste of its quality matcha drinks and eats menu coupled by the experience, itself. the elevated experience begins as soon as you step through its doors on Bond Street into a carefully designed and curate interior. a sun-soaked calm interior showcases its matcha bar and ordering area as well as the areas to sit and enjoy items from its matcha-centric menu. there is also a downstairs space with more seating options as well as a small private tea room which is used for events and such. the vibe is very much where tasteful design meets modernity in a calm welcoming way without trying too hard...almost effortlessly (though we know much effort was needed to make this all happen). a lot of thought went into every aspect of the 12 Matcha experience from the matcha being served and how it is served to the details in the seating. before you even get to enjoy the menu, the interior makes its presence known and it is charmingly a gem. been here several times. highlights to me are the Matcha Americano and the Matcha Basque Cheesecake. after placing you're order, a matcha barista will call your name and you get to watch the ceremony of your drink being made during which you can chat with the matcha-maker. the process is very carefully done from the filtered water being poured to the high-quality-and-grade matcha powder being whisked to the eventual pour into a cup for you to enjoy. from the 6 grams of emerald green matcha powder being spooned into each drink, met Matcha Americano has this smooth fresh matcha flavor that had subtle sweetness coming through the bright complex creaminess of each sip. keep in mind, the Matcha Americano is so good and the only ingredients are matcha powder, water, and air. you can also enjoy the matcha in the form of Matcha Latte. if there is a must outside the Americano, i would say get the Matcha Basque Cheesecake--you get the slight bitter of the caramelized exterior of the cheesecake, but then the smooth creaminess of the cheesecake with matcha flavor flowing through each bite. the cheesecake is sweet without being overly sweet or sugar...bites of the cheese cake are airy, silky, and rich. the service at 12 Matcha is kind and welcoming from the ordering to the final presentation of your order. though 12 Matcha opened in the Spring/Summer of 2025--there are persistent lines even in the crazy cold weather of the current winter. my advice, come early or on an non-weekend days. though the past few times, i have stopped by, there's been no line, but getting a seat is tricky. either way, it's worth the time spent to enjoy this very thoughtful experience and story that is blooming on Bond Street, despite the season or weather.
The matcha here is strong and really good!! I recommend coming in the morning since the matcha is so strong. I had a hard time falling asleep after having it in the afternoon. It was a little hard finding seating despite having two floors but we eventually found some seats after walking around a bit, took us around 30 mins to get in
Anyone giving less than 5 stars is definitely nitpicking IMHO. While the matcha is not the supreme best you can find on earth, it is certainly a top grade suitable for milk lattes and usucha and among what you'll find at viral shops across Japan. Great to have stateside and to see the attention to detail from the hospitality to the brew water and the precision technique with a reasonable price tag. I have immense respect for this establishment
12 Matcha is widely regarded as one of the premier matcha establishments in the city. During peak weekend hours, wait times for entry can range from 30 to 45 minutes. The matcha itself is exceptional, and we highly recommend consuming it on-site rather than opting for takeout. This allows you to observe the meticulous preparation process and engage with our friendly and accommodating staff, who are dedicated to ensuring a comfortable ordering experience. We strongly suggest pairing your matcha with our cheesecake, which perfectly complements its flavor profile. While the venue is intimate, we encourage patience. Seating is available on both the main floor and a lower level. To optimize your experience, we recommend that one individual places the order while another secures seating to fully immerse yourselves in the ambiance.
My husband and my favorite matcha place in NY! We visited August 2025 (dine in) and December 2025 (take out), and we loved it both times. The matcha flavor is nice and strong, and the sweetness is just perfect. The Basque cheesecake is delicious and the ice cream and flavorful and creamy. We visited when the lines were pretty short, so we waited around 30 minutes both times. But worth the wait!
The matcha and the pastries were far more than amazing! The cheesecake was DELICIOUS!! Although we had to wait In line for over 1 1/2 it was totally worth it. We got greeted by the owner and felt welcome. The only negative thing I can say would be the matcha package we bought hardly had any product inside. Hoping to visit this place again
WORTH THE HYPE! Their matcha is 10/10. Perfection. Amazing quality, and their service is wonderful. It takes some time, as they make each drink authentically right in front of you, but it’s worth it! Avoid going on the weekends, as I heard the lines get long. I went on a Wednesday and there was no line. I didn’t catch their name, but whoever made my matcha December 3rd around 12:30 PM was so lovely. We had matching nails :) They had a lot of seating (including a downstairs area that I did not get to see). I would love to try their ice cream next! For sure will be back.
I visited this place with my gf for her birthday, and got an unique experience of watching our matcha being made in front of us. The place is beautiful, nicely decorated, and well put together. The matcha itself is very bright colored, and has a rich creamy taste. Yes its a long wait. We’re waiting for an hour, but we came for the experience. So its worth the time and price. The barista named Marcella had our hot drink, while explaining some matcha making process. Cheesecake was good. Will come back later, but probably on the weekday to avoid long wait time.
This is serious Matcha...it's practically made in front of you, ceremonial like. The color is super green, taste is amazing. It's similar to high grade matcha I've had in Tokyo. Location is well designed and has a great vibe. They have lower level with additional seating. They have a small selection of pastries that looked amazing. Staff is also very friendly, so if you like Matcha it's a no brainer.
I really enjoyed my experience here. It was a very clean, calming, modern space and the presentation of drinks and food fit so well with the atmosphere. I would only go again if I knew I was able to get a seat and savor my drink . The matcha is just what you expect, nothing mind blowing but the presentation and atmosphere make the experience better. The matcha basque tastes more cheesy than matcha so I won’t be getting that again. Maybe I’ll try hojicha next time. The matcha drinks are also quite strong just fyi if you are sensitive to caffeine you will def feel a jolt.
Definitely top 3 matcha in all of New York. 12 matcha has an attention to detail that is so refreshing and often seen in places like Korea, Japan, and Malaysia that I’m so glad to see finally come to New York. From their water purification to their privately sourced matcha, I’m so impressed. As a matcha lover and connoisseur I can’t recommend this place enough. When I visited I was explaining to a friend who had never had matcha how it’s made and good brands etc. The owner happened to be there and overheard and was really cool! He added some of his own knowledge and insight and it was a very nice chat! On top of that, the staff are also very good at making and immersing you into the creation of the matcha. I enjoyed watching each step and enjoyed the taste even more. I got the cheesecake to go with the matcha and I LOVED it. I normally don’t like cheesecake so this was extra amazing. My friend who had never had matcha became a matcha over after that as well. The only thing I can think of that isn’t great is the amount of table. With its popularity it was difficult to find a seat but it wasn’t bad after some people left. Just be prepared to wait and maybe if you’re not solo, get one person to secure a seat while you wait for your drinks.
It’s a unique experience being able to watch your matcha made fresh right in front of you. A very popular spot, so expect a line—but there are quite a few seats and the space feels comfortable. It can get a bit crowded, but it’s a great place to try with friends and chat over some quality matcha drinks.
What a gem for matcha lover. Could taste the umaminess from the matcha latte instead of latte so you know they have grasped the balance and ratio of powder and milk well. I went three times while I was in NY and tried both cheesecake and ice cream. Great matcha dessert guys. Keep it up. Perhaps consider opening up in London lol 😂
I went early on a Saturday morning and got there 10 minutes after opening----no line! I got just an iced matcha latte and a plain croissant. Both super delicious! The croissant was soft and didn't flake off and make a huge mess. Great pairing with the matcha latte--the matcha flavor is very present and delicious! Would love to come again but I come from slightly far away and am a bit worried about wait times.
Incredibly busy spot, expect about 45-60 mins wait at peak time. However, the matcha is very good and I can see why there's hype for this spot. The space is beautiful (2 floors) and the atmosphere is quite serene inside despite there being a long line outside. Would recommend the iced matcha drink with oat milk and unsweetened. The cake wasn't too memorable to me, but the ice cream was, especially the hojicha flavor. The service was excellent though. We were given umbrellas and cold water outside while waiting in the sun on a hot summer day, which was very considerate. Overall, really enjoyed the experience here.
This cafe has a stunning interior and provides a whole experience with the matcha. There were three baristas and you would get called to watch your matcha be prepared. The latte itself was great, but tasted a little watered down in my opinion. It’s definitely worth a try, but I’m not sure if it’s worth the wait to get in. Once you were in, you also felt really rushed and not able to really enjoy the space inside.
A must-visit for matcha lovers! The drinks are high quality and prepared right in front of you, which makes the experience even better. The flavor is quite intense — they use a generous amount of matcha, so it’s rich and slightly bitter. Personally, I enjoyed it, but it might be a bit too strong for some people. The place has a clean, minimalist vibe. It does get crowded, so expect a bit of a wait, especially on weekends. The desserts were the real highlight for me — the matcha cheesecake and hojicha cheesecake are both absolutely delicious: balanced and beautifully flavored.
I waited about 40 minutes in line to get inside. The interior is absolutely stunning and very aesthetically pleasing! I got both unsweetened and sweetened matcha lattes with oat milk, and a matcha basque cheesecake. I now understand why it takes a while to get inside—the staff take their time making your drink in front of you, so you get the full experience! The unsweetened matcha just wasn't it, and the sweet version was only a little bit better but more watery. I would say the wait isn't worth it, as I've definitely had better matcha. At least the Basque cheesecake was decent 😕
