Opinions de Bar Moga New York
Very good bar bites and cocktails. Ambiance not too bad either. Only one problem, takai desune! I wud just come for snacks or after dinner snacks so not to break the bank. But easily best bar food because their stuff is not burgers and pizza but dishes of Michelin Star dreams. Just bring the card with high credit limit.
This place is a fantastic Japanese 🇯🇵 restaurant! Bar Moga has an amazing variety of delicious Japanese 🎌 dishes 🍽️ and drinks 🍸. You absolutely have to try the Omu Rice 🍚🍳 - it is beautiful served and totally Instagram-worthy! 📸 The Sake 🍶 is also fantastic! I wish I came here more often!
This will be one of our frequent visits for sure! Great cocktails for reasonable prices in a fancy speakeasy vibe that doesnt get rowdy. Glad we stumbled upon this bar and we will be back with friends!
Came here for a Christmas date, really enjoyed the dimly lit moody ambience. My partner had the Moga and it was great, I had a seasonal cocktail (forgot the name, had pomegranate in it) and it was great! We also tried the Zireael and the smoke was a fun effect; i found the drink itself to be too spirit forward but thats just a preference thing it was still very well done. We split the omu rice (omelette with veal glaze) and enjoyed that, too. Would definitely recommend this spot!
Laid back with a classy atmosphere, and very quiet for a bar! I've been here a few times over the years and have always had a good time. They generally have jazz playing in the background, and it's quiet enough to hold a conversation easily. The food is also very good. The omurice is definitely the star of the show and tends to be the dish that everyone talks about. The most recent omurice we had tasted less savory and a bit more like ketchup than we remembered, although it was still good. Definitely recommended if you're looking for a good date spot!
Bar Moga is a true hidden treasure in NYC! The moment you walk in, you’re transported to a different era with its vintage, 1920s Japanese-inspired decor. The ambiance is so thoughtfully designed—dim lighting, art deco touches, and soft jazz in the background give it a warm, intimate feel. It’s an ideal spot for a cozy night with friends or an impressive date night. Their cocktail menu is where the magic happens, and the Mist of Ember is an absolute standout. This drink is incredibly complex yet balanced, made with Palo Santo-infused vodka, Italicus, Noilly Prat, pear brandy, a splash of lime, seltzer which adds a subtle sweetness that’s perfectly balanced by the bright citrusy kick of lime. The gentle effervescence from the seltzer lightens the drink, making it wonderfully refreshing. As for the Matsui Single Malt “Sakura.” The Matsui Single Malt “Sakura” is an exceptional whiskey that truly stands out. It’s incredibly smooth, with delicate floral notes that evoke the beauty of Japan’s cherry blossoms, and a subtle sweetness that’s both refreshing and refined. The balance of fruitiness and oak gives it a complexity that’s easy to sip and incredibly satisfying. The finish is soft and warm, leaving a lasting impression without being overpowering. Each sip is unique, almost like you’re drinking a story in a glass—it’s smoky, aromatic, and wonderfully refreshing all at once. The service at Bar Moga is top-notch, too. The staff is attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about the craft behind each cocktail. They’re more than happy to guide you through the menu or suggest a drink based on your taste. It’s rare to find a bar where every detail feels so perfectly curated, from the drinks to the service to the ambiance. Bar Moga is a must-visit for anyone looking to enjoy a truly memorable cocktail experience in NYC.
I had gone on a night where there was a limited menu only so I can only speak to those foods I had in my photos... which were all fantastic! The chef cut the omurice right in front of us and it was just so tantalizing watching it. The pork sliders (translated name) is probably also the juiciest pork I have ever had, and I wish I were exaggerating, because I was not ready when I took a bite.
My brother found this place for “food after the first spot” on his birthday evening. I was greeted by an upscale izakaya, and we were all super impressed. The omurice was delicious, the kani cream croquette was super rich and good, and the katsu sando was the best part by far. I can’t speak highly enough about that sandwich. The drinks were also amazing. I started with a Princess Mononoke, and finished with a Cafe Printemps, and while I liked the first one a lot I loved the second drink. Also wanted to mention that our server was incredible. Loved being there, wish we had been able to stay longer!
Bar Moga is a 1920s inspired Japanese cocktail bar modeled after a Taisho era jazz bar in Japan. --- 🍳𝐎𝐦𝐮 𝐑𝐢𝐜𝐞 $𝟐𝟐 (𝘊𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘬𝘦𝘯 𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘦, 𝘷𝘦𝘢𝘭 𝘣𝘢𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘥𝘦𝘮𝘪-𝘨𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘴𝘢𝘶𝘤𝘦) This was probably the best omurice I've ever had! Very authentic, just like the ones I've had in Japan. The demi-glace was rich with a deep meaty flavour, and the rice was soft without being too wet. The staff also cuts the omelette table-side with a long sword-knife! 🍛𝐆𝐲𝐮𝐭𝐚𝐧 𝐂𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐲 $𝟒𝟖 (𝟽𝟾 𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘣𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘳𝘺 𝘴𝘢𝘶𝘤𝘦, 𝘴𝘪𝘮𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘦𝘦𝘧 𝘵𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘶𝘦) This super aromatic curry left me speechless. The stew-like curry was both umami and sweet. With 78 spices you can expect an explosion of flavours. This well executed dish was paired with simmered beef tongue that melts in your mouth! Truly a must order!
We visited Bar Moga for their famous omelet rice and what we found was some of the best made Japanese comfort food we've ever had. Thinking about it more carefully, it should have been obvious given that a place serving perfect omelet rice (it's no easy feat to cook a perfect omelet to cut in front of EVERY customer) would also prepare all other dishes at a high level of perfection. The panko batter mixture coating the croquette and the menchi katsu was light and airy. The grilled caesar salad was actually made with a head of lettuce that had been GRILLED. The seafood gratin was full of seafood and not just a bunch of pasta. There's nothing magical about the food prepped at Bar Moga, and the price is definitely high for the serving portion, but the impeccable quality of food is what really impressed us.
The omu rice exceeded my expectations. I’ve seen this dish all over Instagram and it was a must have. Commonly found in japan. If you’re Hispanic like me.. think arroz con huevos. If you’re Hawaiian.. the flavor kind of reminded me of a loco moco cause of the gravy. Basically it’s an omelette over fried rice with a rich gravy. The egg continues to cook once cut open and the hot gravy is poured on top so it’s not as runny when you eat. Don’t miss out on the rice burger either! Buns are made of rice patties that are crispy on the outside. Loved the flavor on the burger. So simple but familiar and different all at once. My friends and I ordered the uni toast, the omurice and strawberry shortcake. I really loved it. The omurice cutting was nice and theatrical, but more importantly, the taste and texture was absolutely fantastic. The egg was silken and custardy, and the demi glace added that nice salty, meaty oomph. The fried rice underneath had large, distinguishable pieces of chickrn, which I enjoyed (I do like larger chunks). And the uni toast was quite rich as well! A bit pricy on that one, but very salt-creamy and flavorful. The strawberry shortcake had a sear on top that conveyed a rich almost-burnt caramel flavor and an almost hard chewy texture. I really wnjoyed that, though I think one of my friends would have preferred a more traditional shortcake. All in all, a good meal, but definitely get a reservation. It looks fairly popular.
So relieved that this place remained open since it is one of my absolute favorite spots for Japanese comfort food and cocktails. Choose anything on the menu; you cannot go wrong. One requirement though - if you’re ordering food you MUST get the omurice. It is out of this world. Pictured: Arcade Smash, Otsumami Toast, Hamachi Carpaccio, Curry Doria.
Brought my husband here as a surprise to eat the Omurice. He loved it and said that the demi glaze set it apart from other Japanese sauces he's had elsewhere. We ordered a couple of drinks including a Roku Gin and Tonic and a Black Manhattan during happy hour, and ended the night with a must-try duck prosciutto, a Nikka Coffey Malt Whisky, and a rice whiskey to end the night. Little did I know that I would be shaking hands and talking to the restaurant owner and having a great conversation around Japanese whiskey and a cocktail they presented at the whiskey convention in Brooklyn. The interior was a nice surprise, and I don't think photos can do it justice. We first sat at a table, and then moved to the bar. The restaurant had consistent traffic when we were there on a Saturday night, and we were glad we were able to make reservations and thrilled to meet the owner who stepped in to help at the bar when the kitchen wasn't so busy. We had such an amazing time. The staff and owner were friendly, courteous, had fun when the customers were having fun, and professional.
The service is stellar. Everyone on the staff were welcoming & attentive but unintrusive. Happy hour menu had many drinks to offer. The Black Manhattan and the Tom Collins were both really standouts. My colleague ordered a seasonal drink from their last menu, and they were able to accommodate us happily. The venue is unique and really nice to take the time to gaze at each of the details. It has a cozy, sophisticated atmosphere. The drinks were made with such precision from the Bar staff. It is also really intriguing to see their focus in creating each beverage. I appreciated the sample tasting of a drink on the menu. Ordered Omu Rice. For my first time, I really enjoyed it. Appreciated the house made ketchup on top. The crab croquettes and pork belly sandwiches were really good too. I would go again, as it was a wonderful experience.
Had a great Saturday night with a few friends. Cocktails are solid 5 ⭐s - truly unique combination of ingredients. We ordered "Fly me to the moon", "Dress up for the night" and "The moga" and they were all great. Strong drinks, but the alcohol was not overpowering. I ordered the Omu rice (egg over rice) because it looked fun, didn't have much expectation but it has got to be the best Omu rice I've had! Really fluffy and creamy eggs. Cannot wait to be back.
I love the vibe of this place! We live in the area and have been to it a few times already. The cocktails are great and the decor and service are also outstanding. I am also a huge fan of their non-alcoholic cocktails. They have a good selection of these and the zero prof cocktails are actually good and upscale!
Had to give Bar Moga’s omurice a try. The egg is perfectly soft and the garlic rice’s homemade ketchup has some extra kick that’s delicious. Reminded me of the omurice I had in Japan! The katsu sandwich was also tasty! They have an extensive cocktail menu and other dishes as well. Awesome meal all around!
The vintage upscale Japanese feel is fantastic, the whisky selection is unbelievable, and every food item we tried on the menu were excellent (the wagyu katsu sando was out of this world). Service was also great, discreet and efficient. Everything on the menu is on the pricey side, but worth it!
This is a must try place which has rocketed up my top 10 dining experience in NYC list. The menu changes seasonally and features extremely interesting and well done flavors. Service was excellent, drinks were good (although expensive, since when did we all accept that cocktails should cost $20?), and the star of the show was the food. We would happily come back for a special occasion.
If there is one thing I pride myself in it is my ability to find a FIRE japanese cocktail joint that serves small bites. Truly nothing makes me happier. Bar Moga makes the cut any day. The cocktails are phenomenal (they have great off menu mocktails as well) – special mention to my fav, Cafe Printemps which is their espresso martini with a citrus twist. They also have Pisco Sour on the menu this season which was so special because I loved having them in Portugal. The food at Bar Moga is great – this duck (pictured) was as good as it looks. Pretty pricey so def not a regular go-to, but I do love it for a special occasion. Highly recommend!
I came here with 2 friends on a Wednesday and it was so lively, definitely make a reservation in advance in you can. The atmosphere was really cool and causal. We started with a few drinks, I’m a fan of fruitier/refreshing flavors - so I opted for the neverending summer. My friends got the dancing crane which was also a good one. The espresso martini was strong! For dishes my favorite was the omurice - you must get this if you visit. In order of favorites, the Katsu Sando, Uni Toast and Seafood Gratin was delicious. The only dish we didn’t feel was worth the price is the duck as it didn’t look like the photo in the menu and compared to all the other dishes that were so rich in flavor this was one just didn’t shine. Overall we had a lovely time and can’t wait to come back!!!
Every time I come back I keep thinking to myself "man I gotta come back more often". I've never ordered a cocktail I haven't liked here. The staff is SUPER friendly and knowledgeable as well. I ordered the Ichigoni this time around (pictured here) which is their take on a Negroni, they added strawberry in the drink and it came with a little Choco tart with strawberry jam to complement the strawberry in the drink. It was awesome. So good.
Excellence in customer service with a great complimentary menu. Stopped by this spot after enjoying an omakase meal near by. Was only going to get some drinks but what the hell, I’ll order some food too for funsy. I enjoyed the black Manhattan. Good enough for me to order another glass. For something to nibble on, we ordered the omurice. The dish was brought out and egg sliced in front of us and then lid beautifully on the bed of rice. It was perfectly cooked, the eggs soft and the rice had a good chewy texture (qq). I think if they added a little greens garnishing this dish would look even more beautiful. The service was amazing. Our waitress and waiter was attentive and made sure you had everything you needed. We had two other people join our table and they were quickly accommodated. I’d be interested in returning and trying the other dishes they have on the menu.
Popped in on a Saturday afternoon because I heard live jazz from outside. They do live music on Saturdays for brunch and Monday as well. Shin (?) took care of me at the bar and I had an excellent experience. I'm definitely coming back with a bigger appetite.
Total Score: 9.30 Bathroom: 2.5/5 Fairly clean, but some parts were breaking down like the faucet ☹️ also super cramped Customer Service: 5/5 Superb customer service. Refilled waters and checked in on us. Also when I dropped my chopsticks they replaced it for me without me even asking lmao Ambiance: 4.5/5 Love the homey wooden Japanese house vibes. Very fun paintings and walls too. Food: 5/5 Ugh the food was all so scrumptious!! Meats were all juiced and all sauced up. It was like I was in heaven. Great presentation too Wow: 1/1 Super yummy food and the way they replaced my chopsticks without me asking really wowed me Total Score = BR + CS + 2*AM + 5*FOOD + WOW
We got all their famous dishes and they were all very good except for the omurice. It’s overrated because the sauce is basically just lots of ketchup with Worcestershire sauce (I’d rate it 3 out of 5). Atmosphere is trendy and romantic but the tables are way too close to each other crammed I. A little space so you don’t get any privacy in your conversations. Staff was thoughtful and friendly. Make a reservation.
Bar Moga is a true hidden gem, blending upscale elegance with the warmth of Japanese comfort food. This sophisticated bar serves up delicious cocktails with unique twists—each drink is a masterpiece, beautifully crafted and full of flavor. Whether you're in the mood for something classic or adventurous, their menu offers an impressive array of creative cocktails that elevate the whole experience. The food is equally as impressive, with simple yet flavorful Japanese dishes that hit all the right notes. The katsu sando is a must-try: crispy, tender, and perfectly balanced between savory and comforting. The omurice is another standout—rich and flavorful, with that perfect soft, pillowy omelet that’s hard to beat. If you’re into lighter bites, the tartars are fresh and vibrant, and the crab arancini is a delightful surprise—a fun fusion of Italian and Japanese flavors that really works. Bar Moga manages to be both elegant and welcoming, making it perfect for a date night or a special occasion. The cocktails, combined with the simple yet mouthwatering dishes, make for an unforgettable dining experience. Whether you're a fan of creative drinks or crave comforting Japanese bites with a twist, Bar Moga has you covered. Highly recommend!
We have not visited Bar Moga for 7 years and finally gave it another try last weekend. Their omu rice is known to be one of the best in NYC. We got their Grilled Caesar Salad, Kani Cream Croquette, Golden Uni Pan, Katsu Sando and Omu Rice to share. Their food was delicate and delicious but with small portion and little high price. The video of cutting omu rice is their signature and the texture of egg was soft & smooth. Our favorite was Katsu Sando which was fried perfectly with flavorful sauce.
Great vibes, great bites, and even greater drinks! Food: we ordered the Kani Cream Croquettes, Signature Omurice, and Katsu Sando. The croquettes were incredibly creamy under the light crunch of the breading and the tartar sauce that comes with it was the perfect dip. The omelette in the omurice was cooked to perfection and the demiglace sauce had a fantastic depth of flavor. The pork in the Katsu Sando had probably the juiciest piece of pork I've had in a long time. On the drinks side we had The Moga, Fly Me To The Moon, Princesses Mononoke, Bee-bop, and the New York Henge. All were fantastic in their own way. This bar has a great selection of Japanese whiskeys so I highly recommend the cocktails that feature whiskey or going for the whiskey flight.
First time trying this place and it did not disappoint! The food was delicious and came out at a good time. The cocktails were amazing. I went for one of the seasonal drinks called the Mist of Ember was refreshing to drink so had to order another. My friend went with one seasonal drink and one non-seasonal one also he got the sailor song mule and cafe Printemps. They were also just as delicious. I would love to come back to this place to try more of the menu. That garlic omu rice is calling my name!
We went there for the Chinese New Year dinner. Actually it has a cozy atmosphere that makes it perfect for a date and Happy hour. I ordered all of the signature dishes, LOVE IT ❣️LOVE IT❣️LOVE IT ❣️ •Wagyu Toast •Hamachi Carpaccio •Kani Cream Croquette •Katsu Sandi •OMU Rice (‼️ should ordered the “ Garlic OMU Rice “ instead, Ketchup sauce will be more appetizing) •Kogashi Duck Roast Attentive Waiter/Fresh ingredients/ Reasonable price!!!
We went to Bar Moga last night not knowing what to expect. Bar Moga was the absolute perfect mixture of great food, drinks and experience. We had the most memorable time, and when we left we found out the bartender helping us was the executive chef! We are grateful for the experience and highly recommend everyone come here. Food: garlic omu rice and wagyu sando Drinks: everything is amazing
The food here is really good — highly recommend the tomato omurice and kani croquettes. Drinks are a bit pricey but my friends and I went for happy hour which went until 7pm. Sitting at the bar was surprisingly vibey and the staff were fun to talk to!
I wouldn’t say it’s hidden but almost walked passed it. Don’t judge the outside building because the interior decoration is just stunningly elegant. Really love the vibe there. Drinks were phenomenal and food was excellent. The kogashi duck roast was especially spectacular. Katsu sando was ginormous and juicy. The omurice was good, but ordering four of them might’ve been a mistake and should’ve included some garlic omurice. One thing to note was that might not be lactose intolerant. Really worth a try.
My favorite Japanese bar in the city. I’ve tried most of their food items and drinks on the menu now. Everything is great and the drinks are like no other bars in the city. The food are just as great, slightly more expensive but definitely worth it. Perfect date spot the vibe is great inside
A fabulous restaurant with extensive cocktails and drinks. The restaurant had very beautiful decor and its a perfect place for dates and catching up with friends. The cocktails were a bit strong but delicious. The garlic omurice was flavorful and the eggs were perfectly soft. The waitress who was there was also very attentive and very nice. I will definitely be back!
I recently visited Bar Moga in New York, and it was one of the most memorable dining and drinking experiences I’ve had in the city. The bar has an authentic retro Japanese vibe inspired by the Showa era — think vintage jazz, cozy dim lighting, and warm, elegant interiors. It instantly feels like you’ve been transported to a hidden bar in Tokyo. I started off with their signature Japanese Highball — a simple drink, but here it’s made with precision. The balance of whisky and soda was just perfect — light, refreshing, and smooth with every sip. If you’re a whisky lover, you’ll appreciate how well they prepare it. We ordered a variety of dishes, but hands down the highlight was the Omurice. Not only was the taste outstanding — rich, savory fried rice wrapped in the softest, most delicate omelette — but the presentation was an experience itself. The staff brought it to the table and did the famous egg-splitting right before our eyes. Watching the fluffy omelette unfold over the rice was almost therapeutic. If you’re looking for a Japanese bar in NYC with amazing food, great drinks, and a little show at the table, Bar Moga should definitely be on your list.
This is a place that I’ve come to time and again over the past 5-6 years, but I have to highlight the exceptional service we got when I recently went with friends for drinks & dinner. One friend was allergic to sesame, which we had informed our waiter. Since then he took SUCH extra care, and repeatedly let the whole table know if there were any drinks/dishes that contained sesame before putting them down (though she was perfectly fine with it, she just couldn’t actually consume them). When her order came with the sesame the first time (think the note got to the kitchen just a hair late), the chef came out right away and apologized and made a new order with the needed adjustments as well. That high level of care was far from unnoticed and it’s made me feel more determined to come back more often. Side note: I wasn’t sure at first, but after ordering tonight it confirmed my memory that this is my personal favorite drink from here — highly recommend Dress Up For The Night 💃😉
One of my favorite spots for drinks+food in NYC! I truly mean it! Their food and drinks are both great, especially if you enjoy a touch of Japanese influence though out. I have visited here many times. I came with my girlfriends for drinks and with my husband for dinners, and I always had wonderful time. Their cocktails were fantastic as well as their Japanese imports. The food were consistently tasty. I highly recommend their Caesar Salad、Omu Rice(both the chicken and garlic were good) and the Duck Roast. The atmosphere is chill and classy, reminiscent of the old school westernized Japanese restaurants you’d actually find in Japan. I will keep coming back for sure!
Really enjoyed our visit for some afternoon cocktails. Will def be coming back for the flavorful, well balanced, elegantly decorated cocktails and want to try their food next time! Their attention to detail is top notch, from the diff. coasters to use based on the cocktails glasses & presentation, to the attentive yet never too much service we received. We were very thankful towards our hostess and bartender for the great experience we had. We tried 3 cocktails in total, 2 from the menu and one creation. Our bartender Daiki really gave lots of thoughts to what he presented us, and the result was fantastic! The other two we tried were Bee-Bop and Fly me to the moon, we really liked the Japanese touch presented in both drinks, well balanced with a hint of saltiness! Already looking forward to our next visit!
For an elevated Japanese cocktail bar with bites, this is the spot. Bar Moga is a great place to come with friends or a date. The vibes are great, place is cozy. The drinks are strong and very tasty. The food was great. The potato salad is a must try, the crab croquette was also nice a fluffy and smooth. The pork sando was juicy and cooked to perfection. And the omnirice wasn’t too salty and full of flavor. Bathroom was clean, staff friendly. Note this place does have a 2 hr dining limit.
Great spot for light meal and cocktails. Great atmosphere. Love that this is close to a Japanese style bar where the music isn't loud and there's decent lighting so I can see my food and drink. The cocktails are superb. This is probably the best bar in Manhattan. Highly recommend you make reservations latest a day beforehand. Walk-in isn't too bad at 530pm on a Saturday but they will tell you you need to go after 7pm for the other reservations. It's a good place to get some drinks in before your main event. Recommend lotus chips with the chicken liver pate.
Absolutely loved the matcha tonic cocktail – dress up for the night! The Katsu Sando was a flavor explosion with crispy pork, mustard, and miso sauce. The Omurice was good, though the demi glace sauce leaned towards the sweet side, making it a bit challenging for solo dining. While it's a bit pricey, the cute vibe adds to the overall charm.
The food is pretty good here, but it is pretty expensive, so beware! Also, we were seated near the bathroom and all we smelled the majority of the time was bleach other cleaning chemicals. If they place you near the bathroom, try to ask for another table.
Really yummy croquettes and drinks! The ambience is cozy and a whiskey heaven. I wish there were more appetizer options that weren't sea food. But everything did look good. I ended up having the omu rice dish which was very good but larger than I expected (so come hungry for that dish!).
Nice Japanese cocktail and bites place near the Village that I could see being great for a date. Some nice cocktails utilizing Japanese spirits, though I prefer spirit forward cocktails and both on the menu incorporated earl gray tea - one was nice, two a bit much. The omurice is amazing - from the way the chef slices the omelette over the rice to all the flavors and veal Demi glacé poured over. The katsu sando was also good - pork was tender, I just felt it could’ve used a little more crunch.
A very good Japanese cocktail bar in Mcdougal street. If you want to experience a plethora of Japanese drinks options, it has it all. The ambience is extremely good and the staff is very polite. We ordered an Alaska, black Manhattan, nevermind midsummer and duality. All of them were very well made.
Japanese royal style decoration with dime light. There are some interesting drinks, such as the hot cocktail with scotch, green tea, plum wine, mint and dried lemon. It came out in an elegant tea cup. Food wise, both Katsu Sando and Uni Toast are worth to try. I like the sweet miso sauce in the Katsu Sando.
Bar Moga is a divey and nostalgic Japanese restaurant/cocktail bar in Greenwich Village. We came here for the signature omurice, but I was more impressed by the mocktail. My friend described this spot giving Haruki Murakami novel vibes, which I totally agreed. If you are looking for a place for a romantic date night, Bar Moga will surely impress your date. *Potato Salad It is more like a one-person serving with the small portion. The potato salad was blended with mashed potato, carrots and onions. The mustard dressing has a sweet honey taste. We liked the crispy lotus garnished on top. *Gokden Uni Pan A tiny and delicate piece of uni shokupan, topped with hokkaido uni. Not a big fan of uni, but this was not fishy at all. Very buttery and creamy. *Omu Rice** We opted for the classic chicken omurice with chicken. Our server cut open the omelette for us, and gently pour the hot demi-glaze sauce over the egg. The omelette was cooked to perfection — runny, fluffy and soft. So delectable with the tasty fried rice and veal sauce. *Amber Sky (zero proof cocktail)** Flavor notes: Lyre's Italian spritz, orange, grapefruit, lemon, rose, honey and aquafaba. As a non-alcoholic girlie, I’ve tried quite many mocktails. This is by far the most satisfying one I’ve ever had. The rosy flavor shines, and I liked the fruity combo of orange and grapefruit. It was nicely crafted with a foamy texture. ***Get mentally prepared their food portion is VERY SMALL for the steep price you’re paying.
I had a high expectation before visiting since the omu rice and the katsu sando were what I wanna try so bad. Services were great, place was chill, but not every dish met the point. And it was pricy overall. ✨There’s no doubt that omu rice was the VIP. Rich flavor, smooth egg going over the top. A MUST! The meat of katsu sando (fried pork sandwich) was dry although the dish looked so cute. Last, gyuton curry rice (beef tongue curry rice) was delicious but slightly expensive. For the cocktail, I had Fly Me to the Moon, the most expensive one. It was great. You may taste all the ingredients they used but balanced. The only thing is that the cup was small, half full only. Some people might not think it worth the price.
I stumbled upon this hidden gem and decided to try the "Bee-Bop" cocktail--it was expertly crafted and truly innovative. The bar boasts an impressive selection of Japanese whiskey, offering a variety that's hard to find elsewhere. They also serve food, which I'm definitely eager to come back and explore.
The alcohol are very mediocre and expensive. I only recommend the food here. I like the omu rice, koucha pannacottini dessert, and hamachi carpaccio (the Uni quality is great)! We spend $160/2 people excluding tips. Not worth the money. Would rather try new similar bars than sticking to this bar and come again.
I just tried this place for the first time, and the omurice looked so good, so my friend and I just ordered the same thing. I’m not an omurice expert and haven’t had any in NYC to compare, but my friend said this spot is in their top 3. The prices are what you'd expect for Soho at dinner time, and the vibe was really nice. Good atmosphere and service too! I'm still on the fence about fully recommending it, but it’s def not bad.
Had birthday drinks and bites here. Service was nice. But they really rushed us at the 2hr mark and I would understand that if there were people waiting. But there wasn’t. That said they have a good happy hour selection and the apps were good. The pork sliders were awesome. Tender and juicy. They had a sauce on them like hoisin I think. The duck was very good as well. The potatoe salad is not large if you plan to share. Sorry limited pics. We had the cheese cake which was also very good.
This place was beautiful , we came in for drinks and there was a corporate event so we were seated and the least pleasant part of the experience was very pushy wait staff. The bartenders were experienced and the drinks were good- i really recommended the Bee Bop with browned butter and a caramel cookie! Every SINGLE table had ordered the omu rice- it was like something out of the twilight zone. I wondered if it had gone viral for that dish? I mean EVERY table.

Came here for the omu rice and enjoyed it. The demi-glace sauce was a little salty, but the flavor was delicious. Enjoyed the Wagyu toast as well, the oba leaf was nice flavor between the wagyu and toast. They make proper cocktails at this bar. Was hoping for live jazz the night we went, but will have to go back another time.
Charming Japanese cocktail bar! I would say my rating is more of a 4.4, I had an overall positive experience and the food / drinks we had were good. For the price point ($20+ cocktails) my expectations are a bit higher and feel the drink was good, but not a knockout. The staff were friendly and accommodating and sat us right away without a reservation.
I couldnt take the Omurice pictures. My friend and I ordered these food. I don't remember the name of the cheese something. It was good. And Katsu(?) Not bad. But the sauce(I think sweet salty soy sauce? w oyster) was too salty to me. I guessed this sauce was used for Omurice and Katsu both. Anyway... except for it, not bad!
Their Omurice is good but definitely not out of this world. They cooked their egg right, that’s true, but the plain sauce with an artificial, smokey flavor is not quite right. Seriously, any chain family restaurant in Japan, like royal host, can do better than this, so don’t get your hopes up because of all other exaggerated reviews. Wagyu sandwiches look like a bread (brioche?) based raw tartare sushi and it tastes ok. In conclusion, it does not hurt to try, but there are wiser ways to spend your money🧐
The cocktails were ok, but I felt like a lot of the listed flavour combinations were a bit lost in the two drinks I had. Ambience was nice and service was fine, I appreciate they were accommodating while something was being filmed at the bar. I think for the price point I want to be wowed and I didn't quite get that x factor, but it was enjoyable nonetheless.
I've been wanting to try Bar Moga for a while, since they are one of only a handful of places in NYC that I've found that serves omurice. A friend and I came in on a Tuesday with a 6 pm resso. It was pretty empty at that time for dinner, but plenty of people getting drinks by the bar. The restaurant is very dark, like a lounge. Maybe I'm just old now but it was a bit difficult to read the menu or really see what we were eating. After we deciphered the menu, we decided to just order some things to share. To start, we had the seasonal fish tataki. I can't remember what type of fish they said it was, but I enjoyed it. It was served with slices of avocado, and an egg yolk as a dipping sauce. It sounds weird - fish with chicken by-product? But it just worked. We also ordered two of the 'large' plates - Katsu Sando (sakura pork, sweet miso sauce, Japanese milk bread) and the Omurice (omelette, chicken rice, demi-glace sauce). I'm really glad we shared these because I can't imagine eating all of either one of these. The pork from the sando or the sauce from the omurice would have been too heavy. I probably enjoyed the sando more. The bread was nice and toasty, and the pork had a nice thin tempura-like layer to it, and the cutlet was thick but perfectly cooked and juicy. The omurice didn't really live up to my expectations. It looks better in those videos where the chef brings it to the table and slices the omelette open. The rice is basic, and there was way too much gravy on there. The only thing good about it was the egg. We actually didn't finish all of it and ended up taking it to go. Bottom line - I'm glad I finally got to try it, but I would not come back.
After years of anticipation I finally got the chance to go to Bar Moga. It was a Wednesday night and understandably pretty empty so I had no issue getting a seat at the bar.. The Omu Rice is the main attraction here and sadly it was disappointing. I'm not sure if it was an off night for the kitchen or if things have changed since the bar first hit the scene but the dish lacked the distinct flavor that many patrons rave about. The best way I can describe the dish was it was simply lacking a clear distinct taste. It may be worth a try if you haven't been but from my experience it gave the impression of an establishment in transition.
Not much option for dinning menu. I guess they focus more on the bar menu and alcohol. But I came here for the omu rice. 🌟🌟🌟🌟 Omu rice $22 This is the signature dish and it’s the reason I came here for. The sauce and egg taste good. But fried rice is too wet. . 🌟🌟🌟🌟 Katsu Sando $24 This is a Katsu Sandwich. I love the sauce between the katsu and the sandwich, it’s sweet and little crispy, I assumed they mixed the sauce with bread crumbs, that’s why. The Katsu it’s juicy and not chewy, not bad at all. . But compared to the rest dishes, the Kogashi Duck Roast is normal and I won’t recommend.I will rate 🌟🌟🌟 for it. It cost $32 for each order. Roast Brussels Sprout in the middle, but bland. All taste comes from the sauce at the bottom. However, the sauce are too salty and too strong. It could taste better if it comes with rice. But $32 is not worthy for this dish. The vibe here is just okay. Food from outside is not allowed. I came on Sunday noon but not much busy at that moment. I will rate 3 stars to this restaurant.
Unfortunately, I left feeling very disappointed. The portions are extremely small and overpriced for what is offered. While the ambience is nice, the food does not live up to it. We ordered the omurice, which was just okay. Nothing special at all, and the portion was very small. The duck roast was the same. For an authentic restaurant, you can absolutely find better quality and better prices elsewhere. This honestly felt like a loss. The drinks were fine, but they use giant ice cubes, which immediately makes you feel shortchanged. I asked for a maraschino cherry and was charged for it, only to receive a basic red sundae-style cherry. They charged me a dollar for a single cherry, not even two. Overall, this felt like a cheap version of overcharging. I was very disappointed. It did not feel like real hospitality.
The beef tongue curry was $48 and only has one slice. TBH jt totally tastes below my expectations, just a normal slow cooked beef tongue. The 78 spice curry tastes mainly like a spicy flavor, can’t recommended…. I consider myself above average spicy food enjoyer, but having a curry featured spicy, I just don’t quite enjoy it. The atmosphere at the bar was awesome, there were live jazz music performances around 6pm.
Good atmosphere and presentation. But very mediocre food and drink for the price we paid for. We were a party of 7 and were seated in a lounge-like space where the "table"---which was just a large trunk---was so low that all of us had to either bend over or pick up our plates to eat. 😒 Also, the chairs didn't have any backrests. This lounge area is only good for people ordering drinks not food. Not a good place for big gatherings. My food review: 🍚$18 Omurice: The omurice was very basic. So buttery that it got quite sickening to eat 3/4 of the way. No flavor whatsoever; barely any chicken. The sauce was better than the rice; tasted like tonkatsu sauce. The egg, however, didn't split properly and fall like I expected it to. 🍛$20 Curry Doria: Very little food. Barely any rice and beef. Curry flavor was okay. At least it didn't come from the box. If you're into curry, I suggest Suki. Bigger portion and better homemade curry sauce. 🍸$16 Silk Merchant: The alcohol amount was great. Flavor-wise not so much. There was just too much going on in this drink that made it tasted weird. All in all, not satisfied with the mediocre small portioned food. If you do go, just get the omurice, it's more filling at least. Very small space. Not exactly Covid friendly. No outdoor seating available. Overrated and overpriced. Would not go back.
I’m shocked at the reviews. The food was absolutely awful. It wouldn’t even be good if it was half the price. The fried snow crab croquette was great. The wagyu toast was 24 dollars for 2 bites. The duck roast was decent but nothing special. The omurice was a huge disappointment.. onions were cut into random sizes from super small to over 1.5 inches long. The rice was soggy and not optimal texture. The egg and sauce were good but the there was also unseasoned cubes of chicken meat that were hugely unappetizing. The chicken and rice texture ruined the entire dish.
Worst experience. They made us wait for 10mins despite the fact that we have a reservation and we arrived early, which was fine until we got our food. The drinks were mid with no personality. Food came in small portions and they came out really really slow. One of my friends ordered the ramen from the very beginning and it didn’t arrive until 10mins before they made us leave. They gave us the ramen spoon at some point as if it was a trailer to the main dish lol when we asked when was the ramen coming they replied us with “coming soon”. The waiter came and told us that we would need to leave by 8:50pm and while he saw my friends slurping the ramen which he literally handed to him 2 mins ago, he had no intention of apologising or giving us an extra 5 mins. Also they wouldn’t let us split the bill for more than 3 cards, which was totally fine but with when all the things added up I’m just pissed. Never coming back again. Super overrated.
I wouldn’t come here even if they were giving out free food. Most disgusting service in the city. My girlfriend and I were here last time and it was really nice but for whatever reason host and the bartender couldn’t be any nastier. Sorry no more…
The omu rice was insanely salty. The beef tongue rice was even saltier, and smelly. A small portion costs 48. The hamachi was also fishy. Only the duck breast was okay, not terrible. Honestly, who keeps recommending this place? It’s tiny and cramped, and the service is slow too.
