Opinions de Pepe Rosso New York
Everyone is super nice, the food was cooked just right, but the best part was the atmosphere, it was lively and fun, a real authentic Italian neighborhood classic. 10/10
Great little place for some awesome Italian food! Come here often when I am around and have a few minutes to spare. While the interior is pretty cramped and isn't the most appealing - the food is great and the prices are reasonable. My favorite from here is the chicken parm. If you're around the area and looking for some quick Italian food for lunch or dinner, I'd definitely give this place a try.
This is the best service I’ve ever gotten and lovely, warm Italian ambience. Everyone here is a native and a native speakers. My server was Fabritzio and he was amazing kind and good looking. Come here if you’re looking for a partner, I think he’s single ladies! God loves Italians, and so do I, they did stick to their people and their beliefs just like most of us. Amen. Anyways, back to how amazing even my salad was. My cappuccino was delightful and I wasn’t able to finish my meal, but the smell of it had me running back home to go be with my family and share this awesome Italian lessons in the city. If you want to have an authentic Italian experience, come to Pepe Russo’s!
This restaurant was so good, I just found it while making my way home and I have to say, everything there was amazing. Service, food, atmosphere, would come again.
Come for the food, stay for the atmosphere. Pepe rosso is the epitome of a classic good meal. The New York scene can be filled with mediocre food and superficial vibes. Not here. Excellent food, Excellent people, Excellent decor, Excellent service, Excellently excellent excellence, (Say that 3 times fast). “Pepe rosso is the best”, put that on my tombstone.
Came in just to drink some wine and to share some calamari and was not disappointed. Sana took really good care of us, she was amazing🥰 Def recommend!
There are special institutions that define a neighborhood and PepeRosso is one of them. Not only did they survive the pandemic, they expanded into a great new space, and the food is as delicious and authentic as it was before. If you’ve ever eaten in Italy, come here to be reminded of what makes this cuisine so great. Down to earth, non pretentious, extremely good quality Italian cooking. You’ll dine alongside patrons who have been coming here for years, and it’s obvious why this has continued to be an unbeatable place for those looking to scratch the itch of Italian food done right. If you’ve never been, you’re missing out. Come sit down, have a glass of good wine and some pasta and enjoy some of the best authentic Italian food in the city.
Definitely go here! Consistent excellent pasta, good selection of appetizers. A few beers are available and the seating is extremely limited, but usually seating can be found. Table service is minimal, you get food from the counter and you drop off your dirty dishes at the end of the meal. Local place. Go for the food and enjoy!
Very friendly service and food at great prices!
Omg how I love Pepe's! I've been a customer for over 15 years the food and customer svc are always great! I moved out of NY and recently visited and just had to visit and buy a Merch T-shirt..the old location was much smaller but remained crowded for obvious reasons. Love them ❤️
Perfect spot for a quick lunch or for food to go. The pasta is excellent, even to the levels in Italy. It is also the only place in NY I found where you can taste an actual good coffee. Michele, who is driving the place is very friendly and a really kind person. Thumbs up!
Pleasantly surprised! A small but hidden gem. Pasta was great, prices around $10 per plate. Nice outdoor seating. Funny and sarcastic owner (I assume) who even gave us free tiramisu!
Love Pepe rosso so much, but also love their original location more- it was cozier. However the pasta is still good as ever, priced right and the service authentic. It’s such a gem for a delightful affordable Italian meal
Love this place. Yes, they are small and hard to grab a table, but food is great. Love their Chicken Milanese. Always light and flavorful, one of my fav plates here. They are a very friendly and helpful crew there. Been coming for years and love to stop by when in town.
everyone thats saying something negative about this place either got taste bud issues or just having a bad day. I love the fettuccini & rigatoni here. great chill spot for a date or with the bros/girls. Priced very well for decent italian food. if you want something lowkey & priced very well, this is it. if you want something that’ll blow your head away then go to Carbone, duh. but if u don’t got Carbone money then this is it
Pepe Rosso is the real deal in every respect. The food is authentic, meaning delicious, and priced so reasonably you can't believe it's 2022. The service is terrific--sweet, attentive, charming. We've eaten there for years--when it was a little hole in the wall south of Houston on Sullivan and now slightly bigger just north of Houston, still Sullivan. If possible, the food has gotten even better. Pasta perfectly al dente; fresh and superb salads (the grilled pear and arugula and gorgonzola is sublime); tasty and modestly priced wine. Can't recommend highly enough.
The focaccia bread was sooooo delicious. Legit the best pasta in the city!!!!! I think a lot of the west village pasta spots are so overrated. all of the pasta I’ve ordered here has been DELICIOUS and I get sad when I’m almost done eating. LOVE LOVE LOVE and 100000% recommend to everyone. Sincerely, a very picky eater
Good food and friendly owner. Quick service.
Simply the best. Our go-to after 5 years of pasta all over downtown. Penne vodka cannot be beat. This place beats so many bougie pasta places in the area. Great vibes, food, and people!
Went on a Valentine’s dinner date here. It was spectacular!! Upon entering, we were immediately greeted and seated. My partner and I got a cozy spot on the lower level and the vibes were immaculate. The music hit just right, and the lighting was romantic yet casual. The service here is AMAZING! If I could give it 6 stars, I would. We ordered the cheesy potato croquettes to start, and they were perfectly crispy and cheesy. It was heaven in a bite. We shared a rigatoni pasta for the entree, and it was so delish. The sauce was to die for, definitely ordering again!! We finished off with the panacotta, which was a very refreshing end to our night. It was so jiggly and the sourness of the berries combined with the sweetness of the rest of the dessert was amazing. Definitely recommend coming here for a date, or just to eat out with some friends! (Or take yourself on a solo date here—you won’t regret it)
This was the best experience we have to date on our trip to NYC. The food is delicious between the appetizers the main meal portions are perfect. The customer service was the best. All the staff are kind and efficient. Highly recommend this spot!
Very friendly staff . Sat outside in the sun on the little side street. Had thee most amazing food . The Lasagne is the best !! I am actually glad that I do not live near this restaurant as I would get very fat 🤣
Authentic Italian at its best, food was simply delicious. The service was spot on, we requested extra bread to clean off our plates, and without hesitation, it was brought swiftly. The atmosphere was relaxing, and I couldn't have asked for a better spot to enjoy a memorable time with a good friend. Lovely time.
The atmosphere is super cozy. The staff IS THE BEST 😭💗, and provided great service! The food was also delicious with great portion sizes. I love this place sm <33
One of the best Italian restaurants. Italian by name and by TASTE, real authentic food with reasonable price. Great customer service.
Wow this place is great value. Situated in Soho, big meals and quality food for very reasonable prices. We had a risotto and rigatoni sausage pasta with green salad. Wine by the glass is $8-10, beers $8, which is great for NY. Our waiter was friendly and efficient. Highly recommend you visit Pepe Rosso
The food was so delicious. The sauces were so clean and pure tasting. The salads great and the dressings spectacular. The wait staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. Loved the restaurant ✨
Before COVID, I had lunch often at the location on Mulberry Street. I'm pleased to see them closer to me on Sullivan St and Houston. I love this place. Food and service are both excellent. French Fries are quite tasty! Enjoy!
We found this restaurant walking around soho and we are so glad we stopped in. It is a family owned restaurant and the food and service was fantastic..
The atmosphere was super cozy, the staff were so welcoming and friendly, and provided great service! The food was also delicious with great portion sizes. I loved this place because they had so many healthy options with protein and veggies.
I stumbled on this spot randomly and I was left mind blown by how well the service I received from Mike as well as his colleague. The food portions is nice as well as price not to mention the taste. I came to this place after I flight and I have to say this helped me with my jet lag. Just come in on a day it’s not so busy and you’ll really enjoy what this establishment has to offer.
Was like being in a Florence cafe again when I had lunch yesterday. Started with a cold Peroni draft, orechiette pasta special with sausage & broccoli in an oil & garlic sauce and finished with homemade affogato dessert. $41 total. Best Italian for the price in NYC in a small family owned place.
Honestly, when it comes to the combination of food, value, service, and experience, this might be my favorite Italian spot. Their menu and rotating specials are always on point - we've been twice, and nobody has ever ordered the same thing. 100% satisfaction thus far, and we don't see that changing. If bite per dollar was a metric, Pepe Rosso would be elite. Not to mention that their wine list is quite affordable (for non-enthusiasts, at least - we got a bottle for $28). Everybody that works there is also extremely nice and welcoming, making dinners at Pepe Rosso very homely and pleasant. Tl;dr Best value for good Italian in Manhattan. Can't go wrong with their menu.
Seven of us came and were greeted openly. We were sat immediately. The waiter made sure we were able to order with ease. The waiter and busser checked on us frequently to make sure we all got what we wanted and more. The olive oil is buttery and herbal, an overall beautiful blend. The food is absolutely delicious and I highly recommend this place! The flavors are the best!
Tonight, we had the pleasure of dining at an incredible Italian restaurant in New York, and it was truly amazing! The atmosphere was so warm and family-friendly, and everything on the menu was homemade—from the appetizers to the main courses and desserts. The fresh pasta was absolutely delicious, and the seafood was incredibly fresh. But what really stood out was the house-made wine, paired with such a welcoming and friendly service. A special mention goes to Sana, who served us with kindness and made us feel right at home. She was simply wonderful, and we can’t thank her enough for making this Thanksgiving evening so memorable. As a French family living in the U.S., we deeply appreciated the warmth and conviviality that reminded us of home. Thank you, Sana, for such a heartwarming experience. This evening will stay with us for a long time!
When I lived in the West Village, I often came here for fried calamari, fresh salad, fresh pasta, and tasty wine. Whenever I came back to town after moving to Japan, I ordered the same things. I was always surprised that nothing had changed, even though the restaurant had relocated.
Pepe Rosso is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. It is dependable, consistent, and always delicious. Everything tastes home cooked in the best way. All the ingredients are really fresh and every dish I’ve ever ordered has been amazing and intentional! I love bringing big groups here or just coming alone, the service is quick and friendly and the prices are amazing.
A friend who lived in the city for many years recommended this place. Delicious pasta, like you’re in Italy!! It seems like a neighborhood spot because someone next to me recommended the pasta dish that had mushrooms and said he ate there at least 3x per week. If I lived in nyc I would too. Also had gluten free pasta which I appreciated!
Quick service. Normal portion sizes for a good price. If you’re really hungry you might need an app! We enjoyed and was much quieter than many of the other restaraunts!
I've been here several times and always enjoy it. Really good pasta dishes and tasty desserts. Lots of seating available indoors and outdoors. It does tend to get busy in the evening though.
It's hard to believe how much Pepe Rosso's has grown. Pre-COVID, we frequented the To-Go location which was just about a literal hole-in-the-wall with just enough seating. Anything & everything on the menu has always been fantastic. After [our] transition to the larger location just across the corner, I still can't say enough good things about Pepe Rosso's. This is one of our top spots to bring friends & family who are looking for an authentic NY experience. Great food, great atmosphere, excellent service, but it's not plagued by tourists (although they do deserve the popularity). If you're in NYC, it's the worth the detour to grab a bite. I particularly enjoy their vodka sauces, park/sausage, & any dish with mushroom. So that's my GENERAL recommendation. Give it a shot!
Wowwwww this place was amazing!!! I loved everything about it. It truly felt authentic. It was a mom and pops shop and you can tell they care about the food and put so much love into it. It was so delicious . I am recommending this place to everyone. The waiter was also really good and knowledgeable . Had the burrata , onion focaccia, and eggplant parm with spaghetti with pink sauce . My boyfriend had the chicken parm, which the chicken on his plate was at least 90% of the plate. Huge portions too! Will def be back
We're in NY visiting my mom to help her ring in her 90th and we decided to meet up with some friends at Pepe Rosso Italian restaurant in lower Manhattan. One of my NY friends picked out this cute dive and we had a great time. If you're looking for luxury try mid Manhattan. Pepe Rosso isn't luxurious in any way, shape or form. It's an old dive with quaint qualities and good food. India our server was professional and attentive to our needs and allowed us to be ourselves which is loud New Yorkers who enjoyed the ambience, pasta and good wine. Stop by and take a chance on some authentic Italian dishes, good service and a place you can be yourselves. Mangia!
TEN STARS for this incredible gem of a restaurant. GREAT food at very reasonable prices, but the service and atmosphere here are trule special. The staff and owner are very very engaging and make you feel at home. Make sure to check out the specials! Wonderful experience, wonderful food. I will be back!
My wife and I eat out a ton and we found this place after we went to my son’s soccer game. The food was outstanding and you can tell everything is made fresh. We sat outside and had some really amazing appetizers and main course and then we had a cappuccino over the best vanilla ice cream we have ever had. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE.
Came all the way from Florida to Manhattan and wanted to explore NY to find the best pasta ever. Just wanted to say, I paused eating to make this review. This is the best plate of pasta i’ve ever had and I work at an Italian restaurant in Florida. I would give a 10 star if I could. Please, come here. It’s an experience you’ll never forget!
Super! The food is unbelievable for what they charge you! Honestly, friendly service, quality food, and small but well done wine list. I had spaghetti with salmon and broccoli, nice glass of super Tuscan. Homemade focaccia bread. I was very happy, actually more than very happy that I even call a friend that had lentil soup and after that we topped with a super tiramisu’. If you don’t know or if you never been here you just have to try it your self. I super highly recommended!!!
My first time in NYC I decided to check out this place in Soho that looked pleasant. I was kindly greeted by a man I assume is the owner or manager with a strong Italian accent. I ordered the champagne salmon. I have to say, no joke, this is the best salmon and spinach I’ve ever laid my tongue on. The champagne sauce was warm and savory and just sweet enough to compliment the fish, which by the way still had its skin. I love the skin! The spinach was also just wet enough and properly seasoned. The same man who greeted waited on me with gratuitous service. The cherry on top was the beautiful sun roof on the building’s floor. It made for a nice time to have a delicious meal and read my book. My only qualm is that I do believe the menu prices are inaccurate, nonetheless I can’t really complain about that as I didn’t draw an issue with it during the transaction. 10/10!
Fantastic food. Definitely a hole in the wall but in a good way. Cheap, authentic, delicious Italian food. They gave us so much calamari and pasta and wine and we were so stuffed and happy!!! Owner and employees were kind and funny, they're real Italians for sure. 100% coming back next time I'm nearby. Highly recommend coming here.
Good food. Limited seating outdoors. Very nice and friendly staff. Reasonable price. Gluten free pasta available. Nothing fancy to the menu, but very well cooked. Hidden gem in Soho..
The "to go" part is not a joke. This place is 3 tables large. the food however is delicious, cheap and super fast. The Gnocchi is a personal favorite. If you do get it to stay they have house red & white to accompany your meal. You also get some bread and a bit of oil to keep you busy till your food is ready. The servings are generous enough to leave with some for later.
Very quaint and small, you wouldn't expect it to have such good food! I ate the eggplant Parmesan, and although it was an "appetizer" they gave me quite a generous portion. Can't speak for the rest of the menu but my meal was yummy and satisfying! Only thing that sucks is that you will probably have to get it to go, no space to sit in that place.
Quaint little joint with cozy, shared seating. Friendly service. Delicious food. 4 in the family got a wide variety of pastas and loved them. I ordered the chicken Milanese and it was superb. Lightly breaded, tender, over a bed of perfect arugula and cherry tomatoes.
I have been here a couple times and it is consistently good and satisfying. They always have good choices for reasonable prices. I love that offer salads and sandwiches alongside their delicious pasta dishes. Everything comes quickly, they give you bread. The dishes are fresh and delicious. Perfect low key spot in this area.
Pretty good Italian food and better prices than most in the area
Cozy place with friendly service! The lasagna seemed on the smaller side for the portion compared to the other dishes (coming from someone who usually finishes their food last, they had finished first) but the gnocchi and wine was good, I'd come here again!
So thanks to covid they have a little outdoor area. Super cozy in midst of winter. Here the thing you order inside and they bring the food out to you. There no ice for drinks. Typical table red or white win..cans of soda bottle of water. Food big enough for 2 ppl to split. I had the mozz very good The parmesan cheese left at table....good thing because some plates needed a touch. Cesar salad good needed parmesan Penne vodka need parmesan cheese Chicken cutlet entree very crisp and nicely done. For sure 80.00 for 5 plates and unlimited focaccia bread plus 2 glasses wine Versus sit down Italian restaurant 150.
Cozy sit down or to go place offering both pasta and non pasta dishes. I ordered the mushroom penne with ricotta which was good but didn't have a wow factor. It is a tad pricey for what you get. I would try another dish next time. It comes with bread and you can help yourself to oil and assorted things to dip the bread in. I enjoyed the vibe and the owner's upbeat joking personality.
A very old fashioned Italian place on Houston that looks as though it's been there forever and is priced accordingly. You won't find food this reliable and inexpensive many other places in nyc anymore. The wines also are an excellent bargain. It's hardly fancy and definitely isn't original but the food is tasty and well prepared and portions are generous.
Great value for fresh food. Except the chicken of the lemon chicken was stringy. Food was well prepared and special dishes risotto with asparagus was good and rigatoni with peas mushrooms spinach and broccoli in garlic and oil was good! Lots of options to choose from. Recommend for value freshness, location and service
5/20/23 first time here. Read the reviews and they were right about the food! Really good. Prices are not so bad either. Our waiter was from Rome and has a touch of NYC bravado, i think that can be misinterpreted at times. We had a great time! We wanted a bottle of red and were happily able to taste two different ones with no pressure. We chose the Pino and it was easy drinking. The table bread is really good. The GF had the Pappardelle and loved it. I had the cavatelli & short rib special ($22) and that was really good too. We had the tiramisu for dessert and it was a nice size and really good. Water bottles on the table, no one ever has to ask for water :) We sat for a while and felt no pressure to get up after dinner. We will certainly be back.
Casual Italian eatery - outdoor and indoor dining available. To me, it's all about the sauce which I got to sample when I ordered the fried calamari. Best to eat it straight away when it's piping hot. Grilled pear salad with gorgonzola was nice - good sharing portion. The pasta was al dente but I wish my bucatini cacio pepe was cheesier or saucier. There was definitely enough pepper. Dessert I recommend: Affogato al caffe - it's ice cream with hot coffee poured over it. Delicious. I did not try the pizza this visit but it looked appetizing when other people ordered it.
I tried this place on a whim because it had a longstanding hole-in-the-wall vibe that made it seem like it had stood the test of time. From the reviews I see now, maybe it's usually better than how I experienced it. The place has some picnic tables both in and outside and it's shared seating. They accept cash and cards. I ordered a special to-go, tagliatelle with mushrooms, for $17. I know it was to-go, but I dug in pretty much immediately after leaving. There was nothing wrong with the idea or seasoning—I liked the mix of mushroom types or piece sizes—but the pasta was undercooked. It was pretty firm and clumping together. I also don't think it was house-made? My enjoyment was limited by this, and I felt disappointed I did not get better value for the price.
Great welcoming staff nice place with not bad nothing great food
Quick review. Went for lunch. Maybe because of the lousy weather, I wasn't in such a charitable mood. But the food was just meh. Granted it was just penne in vodka sauce, but if your basic isn't great, how good could anything else be? At least the pasta was cooked perfectly al dente, even after a few minutes walk back to the office. The place itself is charmingly, if somewhat claustrophobically, cute. No more than 6ish seats, max. To go orders probably would have to wait outside in better weather. Might come back for another try, but maybe not.
They have fallen off with to go. I used to love pepe rosso to go and delivery. I recently ordered and the food was terrible. The pasta serving size was so small and looked like a child put it together. Too expensive for the amount of pasta we received and the quality.
The food was terrible. It was very low quality. The chicken was so tough we in had to send it back. Very horrible food. Stay away. .
We go here and get a lunch but it was not pleasant. The owner who is also taking care of the register and customers sounds like bad person. He is loud and condescending to the customers and wants to make himself loud and known. It was hard for us to enjoy our lunch with him there. He don't shut up for 1 minute wanting attention with foolish things he says. No customer think he is good and that make us not come back. Only even he is not there we will come. He make our Italian men look dumb and customers also seemed uncomfortable waiting for their food.
This restaurant exercises bait and switch business! Be aware! The (actual) menu price is different from their website prices. They will charge you more! The pasta that I ordered was undercooked and its taste was below my expectation. Very tiny space with no restroom for customers. It seems that the only reason this restaurant gets high rating is because their food price is relatively lower than other ripping off restaurants around that particular area. There are plenty of other places with far better tasting foods without ripping you off with fake on-line menu prices. The restaurant manager was not friendly at all! A terrible restaurant!
We had a very weird experience here. We ordered two pastas and they were taking a very long time. There were two dishes of pasta on the counter and the waiters went to view them, look at the ticket and walk away multiple times. After around 20 minutes and the 6th check the waiter brought them to us. They were cold and he offered to reheat them, which was cool with us. Although, he disputed the fact that they were cold. They came back quite quickly and still lukewarm, but we ate them anyway because it had been around an hour since we ordered. They tasted OK. Quite bland and a lack of any flavour. Whilst we were finishing, we found chunks of plastic in the food. We showed one waiter and he looked guilty and laughed and walked away without saying anything. We showed a second waiter and told him it was probably food packaging. His reply was this, "it's not food packaging. It's what they wrapped the food in." I found this quite funny, but also quite confusing. They charged us in full and we didn't leave a tip. This is the first time in my life that I didn't leave a tip. I didn't argue about the price because the man seemed quite unhinged already and I didn't want to push him over the edge.
absolutely terrible experience. If you’re a person of color, DO NOT COME HERE. They serve everyone else except you and make you wait very long for the food. The food wasn’t bad but the service is slow and this particular server with a beard and ear piercings kept ignoring us. I asked for more bread and he didn’t bring some even though he kept checking up on every table except for ours. Manager just said sorry which didn’t help at all but whatever. Terrible place
Ate here yesterday and went to use the restroom. The door stuck for a second but then unexpectedly slammed shut on my finger. Told the staff and asked for ice. They knew the door was problematic. They said the manager would call me within 24 hours but I have not received a call. I went to urgent care and it turned out that my finger is fractured. They need to fix the door or at least put up a warning sign. Spending the rest of my vacation in pain with a splint on my hand.
Unfortunately I didn’t have a good experience here but my dining mates did! Maybe stick to the main menu but I ordered a rigatoni carbonara special that was both under al dente (pretty hard mouthfeel) but also tasted of… well, nothing. Tasted like oil and milk but nothing else, the egg yolk color wasn’t present and I left the whole mean unfinished after two or three bites. The price is reasonable for manhattan but the meal was the worst italian I’ve had in the city so far.
