My cousin brought me and my best friend her for my “bachelorette party” and the food and cocktails were amazing! The green tea sour was my first drink, and it sure wasn’t the last, is great if you don’t want something strong. The best drink for me though was the Sakura Highball and I had 2 of those, I would’ve had more if they didn’t stop me LOL. But OMG let me hype up the food! Everything was sooooo good. Small portions sure but who cares when the food tastes sooooo good. Great presentation and absolutely delicious.

The best Japanese fusion food in NYC! Such an amazing experience and ambiance. The cocktails and food were amazing. The caliber of food they are producing is Michelin star quality. Absolutely the best in class. Highly recommend.

The menu offerings at Class on 38th are truly outstanding. During my visit with my girlfriends, we had the pleasure of meeting Alex, the head chef and owner. His insights into the food profiles were enlightening and added so much to our experience. The atmosphere is beautiful, and combined with the delicious food, it was a perfect evening! Easily a 100/100!

We had just finished our shopping spree in the city, when the wifey saw this cute little spot. The menu is definitely different from your usual japanese cuisines. We had the boton ebi, soft shell crab, octopus from Spain, and let me tell you, the food was absolutely AMAZING. Everything was crispy, fresh and delicious. The wagyu steak was definitely the star of the show. Your tastebuds will definitely thank you. Thank you for such an amazing night, and we’ll be back!!

I must have missed this place in my review of influencer posts. This bar is a gem of a find on 38th st basically near Times Square. I won't bore you with how I feel because you want to read the things to get. OK drinks - shiso's last word for those who like rfreshing - mirror mirror for those who like creamy sweet - paper island for those who like tart - far east sour for those who like contrasting tastes - all the others for well anyway they're all good but those four stood out to me. Then food - monkfish karaage is a must - same for toro uni caviar, I know, I know, caviar is for pricks, but be a prick this time - chawanmushi yes - hokkaido uni pasta if you're into squid ink (yeah, that's the second flavor) - salmon ikura kamameshi because the fish is prepared well - furikake fries if you want the potato crunch. I cannot recommend this place any more. It reminds me in vibe of my favorite cocktail place where I live (Perch, in Harlem). These cocktails, done this well, with this precision on the food, is a hard find. I would say do not go for a quick drink. Go for a night.

10/10. From the food to the cocktails… but most memorably, the excellent service. Class on 38th did not disappoint. We had the pleasure of meeting and chatting with Chef Alex Lee. I will be recommending this spot to all of my peoples. We will definitely be back. Thank you for an incredible experience.

What a find this place was! Alex and his team have done an exceptional job with this place. A few friends recommended I try it for their cocktails and they were exceptional. Liked it so much we decided to eat dinner there (we were there really early so they found a spot for us): every dish was beautifully presented and incredibly tasty (especially the Wagyu steak). Highly recommend visiting.

Food was really good! Everything we had was excellent. Especially liked the crudo, corn, and octopus. Drinks were decent too. I had the peachy and it was pretty good.

The food here was excellent. The panko shrimp are really large and meaty, and everything else we ordered was great too - this place deserves to be busier.

An Evening of Class on 38th Street On a recent Wednesday evening—September 10th at 7 PM—I stepped into a snug little spot on 38th Street to find it buzzing. The room was packed with young professionals, businessmen, and stylish women. My longtime friend Jeff and I blended into the lively crowd. Full disclosure: I know the chef-owner personally, and this meal was generously hosted by my childhood friend. Still, as always, my words are honest. The space is intimate, jewel-box small, glowing with dim light—sophisticated yet relaxed. Details matter here: polished silverware, sparkling glassware, a tiny table lamp. These small touches elevate the atmosphere and remind you dining is as much ritual as flavor. Plates arrived swiftly despite the crowd. The food leaned Franco-Japanese, evoking Morimoto, Nobu, and Masa—an homage rather than imitation. Two dishes stood out. The chicken thigh yakitori was sublime: grilled to perfection, dusted with sansho and peppercorns, and served on an antique-rimmed plate. Proof that the simplest dishes are often the hardest—and most rewarding. The truffle rice was equally memorable. During my three-week vacation back home in New York City, I’d avoided rice and carbs entirely, but this dish broke my resolve. Fragrant koshihikari, laced with truffle, finished with those irresistible crunchy bottom bits—I polished off the bowl without hesitation. Cocktails, too, were playful and thoughtful, nodding to Queens and Brooklyn nightlife with green tea spirits and karaoke-inspired twists. By the end, I marveled at how alive the restaurant felt for a Wednesday night. Packed, vibrant, and delicious. I’ll gladly return on my next trip, and I congratulate the chef-owner: holding one’s own on 38th Street is no small feat—and this place does it with grace and flavor.

I had the pleasure of dining at Class on 38 and it was truly an exceptional experience from start to finish. Every dish was beautifully presented and even better tasting. You can tell there’s a focus on high-quality ingredients and execution. My personal favorites were Japanese street corn, hamachi Kama, Kuro pork cheeks and king ebi! All the cocktails were also excellent! This is the kind of restaurant that instantly becomes your “go-to” recommendation for friends, colleagues, or a special night out. A true gem on 38th. Can’t wait to return.

What a pleasant experience! Our server - Carmen - was very friendly and provided excellent recommendations. The HH menu hasn’t yet switched over to end at 7 p.m. from 6:30 p.m., although Resy already had 5-7 p.m. Upon learning this, the restaurant was happy to honor the 7 p.m. end time, which allowed us to try some dishes that weren’t on the regular menu. The cocktail menu was very creative, and everything we had was delicious (GTS, Not a Japanese Mai Tai, Snake Potion #8). The two of us ordered a bunch of small plates as the dishes were very shareable. My favorites were the chicken meatballs, street corn, and monkfish karaage. The miso cabbage (large item) while was unique and flavorful, was a bit too salty for me..maybe a bit less sauce would help. The atmosphere was very posh with dim lights and modern decor. This will be my new favorite go-to spot!

Class on 38th is an ideal spot for drinks and a bite to eat out with friends. There is not a single bad option on this menu! I loved the drinks and the appetizers I got and can’t wait to go back and try something else from their well-curated selection soon!

What a gem of a restaurant. I could have stayed for hours and enjoyed everything on the menu. The Chawanmushi with eel was standout as was the Scallop Crudo & Wagyu Tartate on top of Milk Toast. I would absolutely dine here again next time I am in town. Five stars all around. Our server was a delight. I loved being able to see into the kitchen a bit with the glass panel on the wall behind my dining companion.

Came in with a party of 5 on a Friday night with a 6:45 PM reservation to celebrate a friend's birthday. We love trying everything, so Class on 38th was perfect for us, with dishes that aren't too big, but not too small so that everyone got to try a little bit, and a good variety of options. Here is the laundry list of everything we tried: For drinks, they have lots of unique cocktails (and mocktails), and you can tell they are thoughtfully/expertly made. I had the Sakura Highball (suntory toki, ume plum cordial, fresh lemon, sakura blossom syrup, Perrier sparkling). This was light and refreshing, and was the perfect pre-meal drink. I also had the Boulevardier (mitchters bourbon, gran classico bitters, sweet vermouth, orange oils), which went well with the meat dishes we ordered. For food: -Oysters (market oysters with apple yuzu mignonette espuma, black tobiko, micro cilantro) - comes with 5 pieces (perfect for us!). Oysters were shucked well, and the caviar was a nice touch -Crudo (hokkaido scallops sashimi, market uni sea urchin, red radish, chili, shiso aguachil) - I don't usually love shiso, but I didn't mind it in this dish. You can't really go wrong with Hokkaido scallops and uni -Toro Uni Caviar (bluefin fatty tuna tartare, hokkaido uni, ikura, osetra caviar w/ hokkaido milk toast) - this might have been my favorite dish of the night. I probably could have eaten two of these on my own and not ordered anything else (though I'm glad we got to try so many other dishes) -Hamachi Nikkei (japanese yellowtail, pickled carrot, radish, red onion, cancha corn, citrus carrot coulis) - all of the veggies in this made the dish taste really fresh overall. I liked how thinly sliced the radishes came -Octopus Yaki (grilled spanish octopus, yuzu kosho pepper coulis, petite potatoes, shiso tomato) - I love grilled octopus and I really liked the 'Asian spin' this had -Kurobuta Pork Cheeks (Grilled berkshire pork jowl, shio koji cured, kimchi relish, Tobanjang BBQ) - the pork cheeks were super tender -Wagyu Tartare (50/50 japanese a5 & american wagyu, truffle duxelle, pear, foie gras, shaved truffle on milk toast) - this was a close second for my fave. I guess I'm just a huge fan of tartares in general -Miso-Grilled Cabbage (twice-cooked savoy cabbage wedge, red miso leek soubise, chili crisps, sunchoke chips, chives) - this might be the best cabbage I've ever eaten. It was so flavorful, perfectly cooked, and didn't have that farty taste that cabbage can sometimes have -Hokkaido Uni Pasta (fresh fusilli pasta, squid ink butter, uni beurre mont foam, market uni, pecorino romano) - squid ink butter and uni? Need I say more? -Wagyu Strip Steak (imperial wagyu reserve striploin 14oz, cauliflower puree, broccoli rabe, black pepper demi, shiso oil) - cooked medium rare, the saltiness of the salt balanced the cauliflower puree -Buta Kakuni (4hr braised Berkshire pork belly, shiitake mushroom okayu, onsen jidori tamago, crispy leeks) - I love me some onsen eggs. But if you have to choose one pork dish, I'd choose the pork cheeks over this -Matcha Cheesecake (?) with strawberries - I don't remember exactly what the dessert was since it wasn't on the menu, but I did like the burnt sugar that it came topped with If you have a special occasion to celebrate, I'd recommend Class on 38th. It's not cheap but the food is really good, and you won't find these dishes anywhere else.

The food was nothing short of exceptional! While visiting NYC for business, we wanted something special yet not too heavy. We ordered three small plates and the uni pasta, and every bite was outstanding. The tuna tataki was our absolute favorite among all the amazing dishes. Wish we lived closer—we’re going to miss this place!

I have to be honest, everything was so amazing, from the drinks, food to desserts. Everything tasted so balanced, fresh, and spot on. The combination of each dish was just so unbelievable! I love every single dish we got! We will definitely come back to try other things on the menu! The portion was just right for every dish and it was a great portion to share as a couple or with friends. The desserts were not too sweet and very moist. The cocktails were not heavy, everything was balanced just the right amount of sour/sweet/liquor etc. the uni on the pasta, bring out the pasta taste to the best highlight on top of the great food. I highly recommend this place! It was so worth it.

Wish I could give more than 5 stars. This place is awesome. Some of the food has been way above any expectations I could ever have especially the caviar and uni dish. The staff adds even more of a personalized experience with Alex the manager explaining all the details of the dish, the bartender being extremely friendly, and even the kitchen staff sharing all of what they do for the dishes. It's a very friendly place backed up by amazing food. The cozy place isn't huge but it's big enough to greet a large party.

Had my birthday dinner here and everything we had was amazing! The food was all so fresh and you can tell they only use top quality ingredients for all their dishes. Loved the presentation for every dish. The service was great as well. Thank you to Chef Alex and his team! Definitely recommend trying the Pear-ry and Marucuya cocktails. Will definitely come back.

Food was amazing. We had the crudo (excellent choice for appetizer), octopus, branzino, salmon ikura and the vegan mushroom bowl. Everything was very tasty. Service was subpar. There was 4 of us and one of us got their drink 10 mnts later than everyone else, and one of us got their entree 10 minutes after everyone else! But the quality and taste of food definitely made up for it. Would 100% go back!

Good-tier: The wagyu tartare was amazing. The chawanmushi was good too, and the oysters were fresh. Okay-ish: The miso cabbage was a bit greasy after a few bites, and the buta kakuni was just okay. The presentation of the food was nice, but the portions were on the smaller side, so make sure to order enough dishes!
