Opinions de Danny & Coop’s Cheesesteaks New York
Second time having danny & coop's! This cheesesteak hit all the right notes for me both times! You can tell how fresh the bread is with every bite - soft but somehow sturdy enough to hold all the cheesy steak goodness! Sesame seeds don't usually do anything for me but worked perfectly for this sandwich. They also do not skimp on the steak and cheese and it was the perfect size for sharing! It's good as is but the peppers also add a nice bit of acidity. It's a pretty efficient ordering process but it can get busy. Only room for a few people to stand and eat inside by the counter. Be prepared to find a spot nearby to wait for your order (we waited about 5 min when it wasn't busy and about 20 min when there were at least 15 people waiting for their orders ahead of us).
I took my best friend from Guangzhou China here and he was floored. He said they have nothing like this in China and rated the sandwich a 9.3. He also said that while Bradley Cooper wasn’t at the shop, there’s a lot of sexiness to be seen inside with this sandwich. With respect to myself, I acknowledge that this cheesesteak is easily in the top tier of sandwiches. Admittedly, I have not tried the latest onslaught of pizzerias making cheesesteak sandwiches on their homemade bread (See Mama’s TOO and L’Industrie). Here the meat is extremely tender, the cheese is well melted throughout and the bread is excellent (crunchy and seeded, yet plush - leading to a superb mouthfeel. The onions could be a touch softer. Peppers not needed. 9.1 - must go.
Best Philly cheesesteak I have had in NY. They do one thing extremely well. Bread was fresh and soft filled with steak and cheese. Added both hot and sweet peppers.
Hands down the best cheesesteak I ever had in NYC and I have tried many different cheesesteak spots. To the point I thought I didn’t like cheesesteaks to start with but this place definitely popped my cherry for cheesesteaks. Their bread is a perfect balance between soft in the inside and crispy on the outside. Their meat is very high quality and their cooper sharp cheese is an amazing combination. To top it off they give you sweet or spicy peppers (I get both) and that gives it a perfect bite. This is the go to spot if I am ever in the mood for cheesesteaks! I heard they are partnered up with Angelo’s in Pennsylvania which people say is the best cheesesteak in the world. I see how.
Definitely the best cheesesteaks I had in New York City. The sandwich is big and will get you full for sure. It is a bit on the higher end and cost more money than the average cheesesteak around $20. Get the hot peppers on the side they give a good kick to it combined with the very creamy cheese. You go in order from the register and wait. No frills. Maybe there’s more action when Bradley copper is there. It’s a very simple place, usually crowded, pretty small so don’t plan on eating there. Better to take out.
I was hoping to stand in line , but there were few people waiting for their orders . We ordered within minutes and 5mins of waiting , our order was ready. It’s 1 thing on the menu and you can get sweet or spicy peppers on the side. Service was amazing , staff had smiles on their faces . Now on to the cheesesteaks , it was amazing. No words , just get your own and no need to share. It’s worth every dollar.
Okay so honest review. I've been to Philly, have had a majority of the cheesesteaks offered there. Danny & Coop's delivers that here to NYC. The only other steak that it dethroned in NYC is Federoff's Roast Pork. But they deliver a classic "Whiz with" without going to Philly. So why does D&C's dethrone Federoff's? To start; Simply the fresh baked in house bread is so freaking soft! Then, the perfect ratio of steak, Cooper sharp & onions that fill the entire sandwich all the way through even into the corner. Its freaking excellent. Suggestion Try both types of pepper options(sweet/hot). Hot peppers are akin to the pickled jersey peppers on the roast beefs across the water at Fiore's House of Quality on Thursdays. Sweet peppers taste like peppers that are like sweet pickle chips. It's easy to see why Bradley Cooper is backing, even making these steaks in the kitchen, he's pushing a sandwich he knows is delicious & honestly profitable, when executed consistently. Seeing how great the reviews are I believe the product & service speak for themselves. The cashier is friendly & helpful for first timers. The one caveat, is the price, but blame Manhattan rent prices for that. If they kept to the food truck model it might have been slightly cheaper, BUT they need those deck ovens for that heavenly soft bread! So get it occasionally to treat yourself like I did, or if you can afford it regularly, kudos to your wallet. Either way, it isn't hype or celebrity fame that's pushing the success of this establishment; it's a damn good cheese steak & friendly/ pretty darn fast service too. I will be back, & thanks for a great lunch!
Danny & Coop’s 151 Avenue A New York, NY 10009 Cheesesteaks When I witnessed this long line outside, I knew the cheesesteak was going to be on the money. It was on the expensive side, but well worth it. The sandwich was served piping hot. The shaved rib eye was top quality. The dining area is standing room only, but there are plenty of benches across the street at Tompkins Square Park. #cheesesteaks #cheesesteaksandwich #dannyandcoops #dannycoops #nyccheesesteak
Cheesesteaks are cohesive, enough cheese but not overwhelming. Get the peppers on the side, just to try it out. Only one item on the menu. Standing room only. If you order soda with it, soda is 8 fl oz glass bottle. We came on a snowy day, so wasn’t too crowded. Awesome cheesesteaks
Yes worth the hype! Located in the East Village, this tiny hole in the wall serves the most amazing cheesesteak rolls. They sell one item and do it extremely well. The sesame seeded roll I was surprisingly soft, which prefer, and the combination of onions, cheese sauce and steak, was rich and flavoursome. I’m not a big fan of onions, however this blended in perfectly. You are asked if you would like peppers on the side sweet or hot. I choose sweet and it just cut through the richness of the steak. The side was tiny, would have liked a little more. The store has minimal bench space and there is nowhere to sit. I arrived at opening so the line wasn’t crazy, waited 10mins to order received my order in 5 mins. Lucky enough to find a space to eat. I ate half in store and finished the rest in Hompkins Sq Park. Highly recommend.
Danny & Coop’s truly makes the best cheesesteak I’ve ever had, and I don’t say that lightly. From the moment you open the bag, the smell alone tells you you’re about to have something special. I ordered my cheesesteak to go, and even after the walk home it was absolute perfection. My friends and I practically devoured it the second we unwrapped it. The cheese is melted exactly the way you want it—creamy, gooey, and evenly distributed so every bite is rich and satisfying. The steak itself is cooked beautifully: tender, flavorful, and seasoned just right so it stands out without overpowering anything. The bread holds everything together while still being soft and warm, which makes the whole experience even better. What really impressed me is how balanced the cheesesteak is. It’s indulgent, comforting, and super filling, but never overly heavy. You can tell they care about quality and consistency in a way that sets them apart from other spots. It’s honestly the kind of food that makes you stop mid-bite and go, “Wow.” If you’re a cheesesteak lover—or even if you think you’re not—you need to try Danny & Coop’s. It’s an instant favorite and absolutely worth the hype.
This is my favorite cheesesteak in NYC. The meat is a generous portion and melts in your mouth. The meat, cheese, and onions are mixed well so that every bite is exactly the same combinations of flavors. You get creamy cheese, tender meat, soft onions that still have a little bite. The bread is crunchy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside, even if you reheat it at home. Uniquely, their bread is also topped with sesame seeds that give the bread a deep, rich, slightly nutty taste. They will offer you spicy or sweet peppers. Either option, cuts the creaminess well and really lifts and lightens the flavors. It is a first-floor store-front, handicap accessible. There are two walls lined with family style high-top bar tables to stand and eat, if you’re lucky enough to be there when one is open. Walk-in, place your order, one option - Philly Cheesesteak with onions and cheese, no substitutions or special requests. They will text you when your sandwich is ready (I have waited 7 to 20 minutes, depending on the time of day). I usually eat half in the park across the street and then reheat the other half, wrapped in foil, at home. It is just as good reheated.
Wow! After seeing the ads on TikTok and instagram , my husband and I decided to take a trip to Manhatthan and try the infamous cheesesteaks. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint, an absolute 10/10. This sandwich is something I will keep coming back for. At $21 dollars a sandwich I must say it’s worth every penny. The meat is tender flavorful and decadent. The cheese sauce is perfect and none of it tastes artificial. I was skeptical to try at first but my mind was changed, everyone that passed by asked if we were waiting and told us we won’t regret it. Well we didn’t! The sandwich was big enough for me to share with my son but my husband had his own. The bread is buttery soft and fresh, we visited at 830pm near to their closing time. Yet we still had a great experience, can’t wait to come back. Also if you go to the deli next door and get the onion rings with cheese, you won’t be disappointed! Enjoy!
Impressive. Rating here 5 stars. The atmosphere was decent. Nothing extravagant - small space. But had to try Bradley Cooper's popular Cheesesteak. Stopped by midday during the week and quickly ordered. Got the Cheesesteak with sweet and hot peppers. I ate the sandwich about 2 hours later due to my drive back to NJ. I can tell you that it was still warm and the bread held up perfectly. No soggyiness whatsoever. First of all the sesame bread.. um YES! The bread is delicious. At first bite, great cheese choice. The steak is smothered in cheese with small bites of onions. I absolutely loved this sandwich. It was well executed and packaged. The sweet peppers were my fave. A nice sweet and sour flavor. The hot peppers were extremely hot, so beware. Overall, a great first experience. Management, I like what you did here. Thumbs up 👍🏾 UPDATE: Stopped by a second time, a little over a month later and prices have already gone up! The restaurant opened in January 2025, I think it's a bit soon. Still a good sandwich, but the price hike was surprisingly disappointing.
Probably the best cheesesteak in the city! The people working there are super friendly and welcoming. The sandwich itself is absolutely spectacular — you can add pickles and choose between hot or sweet, and trust me, it’s totally worth trying that combo. The portion size is generous, so you definitely get your money’s worth. I had to wait around 25 minutes, but it was absolutely worth it. The place has a nice, cozy vibe, and there’s a beautiful park right in front where you can even sit outside to enjoy your cheesesteak and all the activities happening there. Honestly, I’d go back a thousand times!
Great little spot downtown serving up great steak and cheese sandwiches. The bread was super soft. The meat was nice, tender and flavorful. The staff were very nice and welcoming. They give you a side of peppers with your sandwich either sweet or spicy. I prefer spice and they did not disappoint on that. No seats only standing space at counter to eat. Just a grab and go kind of thing.
All the hype is REAL. The sandwich is top notch in terms of quality, flavor and ingredients. Though extremely busy and always long line, it’s so worth the wait. Inside there’s just standing counter but almost all patrons take it across the street to Tompkins Square Park to enjoy on a bench. One of the best cheesesteak I’ve ever eaten anywhere. Danny & Coops is a must have for any Cheesesteak lover.
In addition to the lack of indoor seating and restrooms, the service is impressively fast despite the crowd. The food is truly delicious, the ingredients are incredibly generous, and in terms of price/performance, it’s extremely affordable by New York standards. Taste-wise, it was one of the best I’ve ever had, and the portion was so large that a single person could hardly finish it.
Good tasting Philly cheesesteak sandwich that is improved greatly with the peppers. 6/10 overall. The service was great, venue was small, welcoming more of a takeout vibe especially when crowded. Overall the sandwich was filling, and the portion was great.
Food: B+ Service: A+ Décor: A+ Seating: F (standing room only) After seeing the cheesesteak all over social media, I had to try it! Ordering was a breeze. There were only about three to four people in line, and it moved fairly quickly. After placing my order, I gave my cell number and was told I would be notified when the sandwich was ready. Within ten minutes, I got the call that my food was done. Overall, the cheesesteak was good, but it did not quite live up to the hype. The sandwich alone cost $23.41 and did not include fries or chips, so I ended up walking a few doors down to grab fries from another restaurant. That said, the bread was a standout. It was well made and incredibly soft with a noticeable sesame aroma and flavor. The meat was nicely cut and tender, but it could have benefited from more seasoning and a heavier hand with the cheese whiz to truly mimic a Philly cheesesteak. I also appreciated the packaging, which kept the sandwich intact and aesthetically appealing when I opened it. The cheesesteak came with a side of peppers that were not spicy. They had a flavor similar to bread and butter pickles, and that sweetness paired perfectly with the sandwich. In the end, it was a solid cheesesteak, but given all the social media buzz, I was expecting something a bit more flavorful and memorable.
(4.25 stars) Attention, Carnivores-- want a satisfying cheesesteak, don't want to drive to Philly, and it's a Wednesday - Sunday? you're in luck--Danny & Coop's got you. the small Alphabet City cheesesteak spot serves up an authentic cheesesteak in NYC. Danny & Coop's cheesesteak is thinly sliced/shaved steak grilled on a flat-top, the Cooper's Sharp cheese is super melty and glues the steak and grilled onions together in a freshly baked seeded long hoagie roll. order the cheesesteak with or without peppers served on the side (with hot OR sweet peppers)...the cheesesteaks are made one way no substitutions or anything. my thoughts: 1) delicious cheesesteak, overall and very shareable (I'd say bring a partner and crime to enjoy the sandwich experience); 2) a generous helping of shaved steak (spills out of the sandwich) is seasoned and grilled for a flavorful, juicy, tender with a nice balance of meatiness and fattiness; 3) Cooper's Sharp cheese melts smoothly and really has a strong cheddar flavor, but to me it comes off a little bit salty (not that it is too salty but it comes up to the line. it's just personal preference) but they don't skimp on cheese and its creaminess is layered throughout the steak shavings; 4) as many have stated, the seeded hoagie roll is the STAR of the cheesesteak as the bread possesses a nice firmnness, yet soft inside that doesn't get soggy despite the enormous layers of melted cheese and steak stuffed in the interior is small, modern and casual--no seats except for the bench outside. there are small ledges to eat at inside, but since the place is normally with full with people ordering or picking up...head across the street into Tompkins Square Park ordering is simple. lines move fairly fast bc sandwiches can't be customized. sandwiches take about ten - fifteen minutes from the time you order. staff text you once your sandwich is ready to be picked up. sandwich is boxed up hot off the grill and can be carried easily. service is fast and friendly as they need to keep the lines moving. PRO TIP: Wednesday and Thursday is way less busier than Friday evenings, Saturday, and Sunday. now you know!
The Philly had generous filling of meat and onions. We also got some spicy peppers on the side. Very flavorful but a smidge salty for my liking. Atmosphere was okay. This is a hit and go place - No seating. Downfall of this place was that the staff were dry, no personality and we waited over 30 mins for 1 sandwich!
WAY TOO SALTY! not enough peppers. Many years ago i was a waiter at a restaurant named Campagna. One day I served Kristin Scott Thomas who was the lead in The English Patient with Ralph Fiennes. The film won 9 academy awards. I still remember that she wore a pink cashmere scarf in a way that only french women seem to be able to pull off. anyway….. She mentioned that the food was very salty and she said that in france when the food is too salty it is often a sign that the cook is in love. So i decided to see if in fact that this was true. And sure enough it was! The chef was recently engaged! So….. my guess is the person who prepared my cheesesteak tonight is in love. The attempt to make a superb cheese steak was ambitious but the seasoning was poor. The ratios were way off too. I ordered sweet peppers and fortunately aquired another portion for the other half of the sandwich. This sandwich might be geared more to the under 30 year old bro crowd of which I am not. When one hits middle age and has a little more food experience one looks more for skill and grace as opposed to bells and whistles.
Solid 4 stars for this philly cheesesteak spot. Pros: - The bread is excellent and ideal choice for the cheesesteak. I could tell that its similar to Angelo's which for me has the best cheesesteak in the world. - The order did not take longer than 15 min. The non substitution/customization makes this doable. - Sweet peppers adds a unique flavor to the sandwich. Add ketchup as well and you'll get the best flavor. Cons: - the service for me was a bit off. The guy handing the sandwiches should have been a bit more welcoming. - This is a primarily take out resturants as they dont have dining tables. Not a big deal tho. - the cheesesteak was a bit salty for me. But I felt it was balanced when I added the sweet peppers to the sandwich. Overall, I could see myself going back again if Im around.
It’s a good cheesesteak, but I feel like the ceiling for cheesesteak isn’t that high (controversial take?). Heavy on the cheese, really nice crunchy and light sesame crusted roll, and normal tasting sliced steak. Not worth waiting for more than 20 minutes (which is very very common) for, but good on a cold day
