Opinions de Little Basil New York
Food was soooo good. We had the eggplant basil and the clay pot rice. Out of this world good! My new stop in this neighborhood!!!
Great food and service. However very spicy, spiciest Thai food I have had. Make sure to verify spice level when ordering ( it was an error on my part) I’d go back again to try other dishes.
Really love this local gem. Great, solid Thai with the usual options plus some specialties to keep things interesting. Friendly service, quaint and generally quieter inside. The BYO really makes this special and a perfect place to come with roommates or a couple friends to enjoy good, affordable Thai with some beer or wine. Favorite dishes here are the pad see ew, green curry and clay pot. Curry puff and fried dumplings are also great to start. Drunken noodles were just ok
The name of this place was a little deceptive at first, it sounds like an italian place, and has a very generic looking awning and logo. I went there with my girlfriend for a lunch special and we were very surprised by the amount of food that came for the great price. My girlfriend has spent some quality time in Thailand and felt this food was very close to matching the flavors of the authentic dishes she experienced there.
Little Basil is one of my favorite Thai places in the neighborhood! Love eating in (they're BYOB with no corking fee) or picking up /delivery take out - the quality is always great! Would recommend.
Had a fantastic first experience here. Truly can’t wait to go back!!! Everything we ordered was so flavourful, fresh, and arrived quickly. Thank you so much for a wonderful Thai food experience 😊
No matter where I am in the city I’ll order from here , they have quality Thai food and are very quick with delivery
I had lunch special drunken noodles with chicken here, one of the most delicious noodles I have ever tasted. Don't miss the drunken noodles if you can handle the spice.
Favorite Thai restaurant in the city! The food quality and customer service are always 10/10.
Clean restaurant, nice service, great food, and food was served quickly
Best Thai in all of NYC!! Must try to chive pancakes! Had 2 orders because they were so good. Love, love, love this place! And everyone is so nice!
Absolutely delicious and exceptional service for delivery, pick up, and dining in. This has been a neighborhood favorite for my partner and I for over two years. Order directly from their website so that they get all of the proceeds and they don't have to pay a large percentage to a delivery company like GrubHub. They deserve to keep what they earn. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
I never leave reviews but this place is so amazing! The best pad see ew I’ve ever had (order it at least once a week) and the service was amazing. Would absolutely recommend
The service and food was exceptional! I got tofu pad Thai and my dad got beef noodle soup, the best we’ve had by far!!
Best Thai I’ve had. Truly. I left waaaay too full.
first time at little basil, I must say 10/10!! I got the panang curry (spicy) and im still dreaming about it. I was under the weather too so the meal meant even more to me. GO GO GO!!!!! tens across the board!!! I cant wait for my friends+fam to visit so I can take them here!
Best Thai Food place, I always order Drunken Noodles with shrimp or crispy duck... And the Fried Calamari are also great
Went to Little Basil to celebrate a coworker’s birthday. Accommodated a group of 10 people. The lunch specials were a really good value. Starts with a soup or salad and small appetizer, then ends with a noodle or rice entree. Would definitely recommend.
Love the ambience (small and cozy) and how affordable this place is! Great place to catch up with friends after classes, and is usually not very busy on weekdays. The lunch special is definitely where it's at-- you get your choice of two sides and a main dish. I always get the chicken pad see ew (around $10). This place can be a little cramped if you order in house; I recommend calling ahead of time to place your order if you're taking it to go. Waiters are also very friendly and will check up frequently.
my favorite Thai place in the city! Staff is so friendly and the food is amazing. You have to try the chive pancakes! We love dining in for dinner but their lunch deal is unbeatable. My go to always, even when we moved from the area.
I called the place to reserve a table for 2 and received a friendly confirmation. Little did I know that the customer service would be so cool. The lady who attended our table was polite and friendly. I would say she went above and beyond her duties because she waited for my friend to finish his meal and (stop talking! hahaha) even though it was her last call. We had thai fried rice and spring rolls and the taste, quantity, and price all were perfect. I would recommend this place for sure and will return soon (but this time with my lovely family ) #lookingforward :) T PS: Thank you for making my dinner experience, an awesome one :)
For what it is, there's literally nothing wrong with Little Basil. The food is tasty, their BYOB is generous for New York standards, and the ambience is legit! The cost/benefit is great, for all you econ students out there. I'm sorry I don't have a picture, but the crispy duck (which was admittedly the thing on the menu that was a bit over priced) tasted GREAT over my pineapple fried rice. :)
This is one of my favorite thai restaurants in the city. The atmosphere is cozy, the staff is friendly and the food is always delicious and reasonably priced. I have never had a green curry that tasted so rich and spicey and it has become a go-to for me and my friends. Recently, I have experimented and tried various dishes from the specials menu and I have yet to go wrong. This place is Definitely an asset to the neighborhood!
The service here is excellent! Nina and Aef are so kind and always make me feel warmly welcomed. I love ordering the Yen Ta Fo noodle soup, it’s always delicious and truly authentic Thai style. This has become my go-to favorite spot!
The best restaurant in the neighborhood by a wide margin. And the staff are all super nice, if you place a takeout order they offer you water while you wait, how many places do that? But yeah more importantly the food is really really good, I've been here I'm sure 20-25 times in the 10 years I've been in the neighborhood.
This is my favorite hidden gem in the city - some of the best Thai food I've ever had in my life in the most unassuming little restaurant. I live nearby, and probably do takeout at least once a week. I've never had a meal from there I didn't love - my personal favorites are the little basil fried rice and the panaang curry. Everyone who works there is also so pleasant and kind. Highly recommend!!
Outstanding Thai food, definitely one the best in the city. Seafood gyoza and tom yum soup are to die for.
Great food I ate it too fast to take a pic, I wouldn’t have come into this place thinking it’s just takeout but turns out the ambiance is adorable the place is busy in a Wednesday and the food was great (as usual) I highly recommend 10/10 don’t sleep in the in person dining it’s worth it any night of the week a little escape and an authentic meal for sure
This place is amazing; the food alone is enough to come back, but the attentive service is the cherry on top. The server was attentive, refilled waters, checked up on us, and was so sweet overall. Give this place a try, it’s the best!
This is my first time at this restaurant and I have nothing but compliments to say. Food is tasty, reasonable prices and great customer service. Highly recommend 👌
I just got back from Thailand. This is just as good, if not better, than the food there. Best Thai food in NY! And very reasonable.
The staff at Little Basil could not be more kind and polite. And the food is delicious. I’ve had multiple curries, noodles, and the fried rice. Coconut shrimp appetizer is also amazing.
I was outside looking at the menu and a young lady told me how good this place is and she was correct Had the Tom Kha Soupnwith Tofu and Green Curry Squid. 😋😋😋😋😋😋
The food is good, someone put thought into the ingredients added to the food. When I went it was empty but I feel like the service would stay good regardless. I got drunken noodles which were well made, spicy and seasoned enough to make each bite feel just as good as the last, and the Thai Iced was well balanced the sweet and bitterness of the tea felt cohesive and not like two flavors forced together. Considering it was in Manhattan I believe the price, portion and flavor is a close match to the Thai places in Queens. Definitely worth a try.
We have been for dinner a few times. A small ethnic restaurant with character, friendly staff and tasty food. Not fine dining but definitely a place we enjoy and which we will go back to. So very NYC with its neighborhood restaurants and cosmopolitan character. And, oh, the Drunken Noodles were excellent.
My husband and I highly recommend this little gem of a restaurant. The staff were so welcoming and the food was wonderful. I loved how the place is decorated in a simple, peaceful and inviting way. I know that I am going to enjoy my left overs tonight. Yes, I will share. All the best.
Great Thai place. I had the steamed dumplings and Massaman Curry and both items were really delicious. My husband had the fried rice and ate the whole dish. My friends ordered Pad Thai and Drunken Noodles and finished their meals as well. The portion size is just right. Also, FYI, the place is BYOB. This place had the perfect ambiance for us to have dinner and catch up with good friends.
This place is a hidden gem away from the hustle and bustle of the neighborhood. I went there today at around 2pm. It was empty at that time and I was able to get a table right away. The food came quickly which was great because I was hungry. Not only did the food taste good, it felt like I was whisked away to Thailand. The flavors, the texture, and the spiciness were all authentic. I felt like I was in Thailand eating authentic food. I will definitely add this restaurant to my favorites and make sure to come back here.
Came as a walk-in at this restaurant and were greeted and seated immediately. Amazing selection of authentic Thai food! The servers were super nice and attentive. I will definitely be coming back again and again! Here is a picture of the chocolate mousse and coconut icecream dessert which was delicious!
Ambiance (4/5): The establishment is small with a few tables and was fairly empty on Saturday around 7p but by 8, it was fully seated! Reservation recommended. The decorations was minimalistic/cute and seating was a bit tight. Low to moderate noise level (a little noisier as there was a party of 8 dining this night). Despite having double doors, the draft air made it super cold during our stay. Service (4/5): The service was a bit tough with only one wait staff but we got what we needed when asked. Fried Pork Buns (5/5) – The mini fried buns were almost like soup dumplings as they were filled with some broth on the bite. The exterior was crunchy and was very flavorful. Pra-Rahm (4/5) – peanut sauce, deep fried meat. There a little bit of breading to the meat so it soaked up the sauce but wasn’t exactly crunchy or anything. It gave it an interesting texture but the meat itself was tender. While it tasted good, I wouldn’t order it again and order something else to try next time. Drunken Noodle (5/5) – I was able to ask them to replace the thin noodles with the broad noodles and they obliged! It was very tasty and had lots of flavor. Massaman Curry (5/5) – This was also very flavorful. All in all, delicious dishes!
My boyfriend and I were incredibly impressed with this cute little place we stumbled upon. We ordered the fried dumplings which exploded in my mouth and the curry puffs which were so good we had to rock paper scissors for the last one. I ordered the drunken noodle and my boyfriend ordered the massuman curry - SOO GOOOD. The service was great, my water always full and the food came out pretty quickly. 10/10 no notes
Delicious food, incredible service! I lost one of my piercings and our waiter helped me look for it, was super sweet! cannot recommend enough!
My favorite Thai restaurant in NYC. I have been eating here for 13 years and so happy they're still at it. I've since moved to Brooklyn but pick up takeout any time I'm in the neighborhood, it's that good. Seriously, the best pad see ew of any Thai restaurant in NYC, and I've tried many - perfect combination of flavors - sweet, roasted and pickled peppers. I'm in love. Amazing crispy spring rolls. Their veggie curry with avocado is delicious, but really, so is everything I've tried here.
Wonderful little Thai food restaurant with a fantastic lunch special in the heart of Manhattan. Enjoyed the vegetable spring rolls and Thai salad appetizers - great portion sizes! For the main course, I ordered their chicken pad see-ew. It was flavorful; however, the Chinese broccoli with soy sauce had a tangy taste that didn't compliment the pad see-ew. Overall, recommended.
My wife and I ate here on a Tuesday night. She got the drunken noodles, which was excellent, and I got the pineapple fried rice, which was also excellent. The people working there were so nice and friendly, it added to our already wonderful experience. I would recommend this place to friends and family.
I live right down the road from here and it’s me and my boyfriend’s all time favorite place in the city! The panang curry is TO DIE FOR!! Their lunch special is awesome!! On special nights we get the pineapple duck curry cause it’s the best thing on this planet I swear on everything you have to try it!! We go here almost 2-3 times a week sometimes cause we just can’t get enough of it! Not to mention the amazing ambiance, I loveee how dimly lit it is at night!! Such a vibe with such amazing food!!! Such sweet wait staff aswell!! Shoutout to Penny and Emmy ❤️
Everything I ordered at Little Basil was delicious. Tried their Little Basil wings which were fried perfectly. Ended up ordering more. Curry puffs were light and airy, but I wish the order came with more than 3. Their pork spare ribs were flavorful and paired with a good sauce. Their mango sticky rice was exactly what I needed. Mangos were fresh and the rice provided the right amount of sweetness to go with my other dishes. Little Basil is such a cute spot, looking forward to revisiting!
Nice cheap Thai restaurant located close to Baruch. Fairly busy place for lunch which is when you get the best value for money. An appetizer + soup or salad + entree for just 9 bucks is a great deal in Manhattan. Tasty food served with a smile. Go for it if you are in the vicinity although I would recommend coming down just for the food
I love going here for lunch! It's one of my favorite lunch spots. Despite the busy crowd during lunch (around 12:30PM), the service is always fast and quick. The staff is very kind and polite. If there is a wait, it is usually only 5-10 minutes tops. The prices are great for lunch. For the lunch special, I usually get Thai Salad with Ginger Sauce. It's a little small, but definitely fresh and they give you a fair amount of sauce. I also like to order the Little Basil Spring Rolls. They are the best out of the appetizer options. They are served with plum sauce and the texture of them aren't like other spring rolls. I can't even describe it, but it's definitely a good thing. Out of the lunch special entrees, my favorite is the Pineapple Fried Rice with Chicken! They don't cheap out on the ingredients and they even put cashews in it. It really adds to the flavor. As for drinks, I love their Thai iced tea! It's not too sweet or bitter like other places I've gone to. They are also served in cute little mason jars. Although this place is a little cramped at times, the restaurant has nearby hooks where you can put your coats or bags. This not only helps you, but it allows service to run more smoothly.
Food was a bit on the salty side for me, but maybe everyone's taste varys. Thai ice tea was nice, however coconut drink was disappointing mainly due to it not being fresh out from a coconut. Coconut drink was served in a glass instead, after checking with server why there was no physical coconut, we were told that it was from a packaged bottle. On the brighter note, service was very good and restaurant was very accommodating with our request to cut a birthday cake there. They even allow diners to bring along their wine during certain times. Had I known earlier, I would have also brought a bottle.
BYOB, no hard liquor, for the first bottle the corkage fee is waived, $10 corkage fee after. Very yummy Massaman curry! My friend enjoyed her pad se ew. Good friendly atmosphere. Not too crowded but not empty either. A good local spot. Only thing I didn’t love was the edamame, oddly enough. It’s so simply prepared that I’m not sure how I could have been disappointed, but I was. Maybe it wasn’t fresh? Not sure. But I certainly ate all of it so it was still good. Overall very enjoyable Thai place and recommended.
Great food!! Loved the Spicy Basil. Vegetable dumplings were good also. I was surprised by how well the eggplant dish was with the "Mock Duck". Tasted really well. Definitely will be coming back to the little Kips Bay spot. Oh and it's BYOB. Can't beat that!!!
I always order their Drunken Noodles because I love to get "drunk" on them lol. My main gripe with this place are the prices due to how expensive it can get. Overall, a good place.
Cozy and nice atmosphere with very friendly and attentive staff. Ambiance for dinner was great. The Thom Yum soup had just the right kick without being overly spicy and the steamed chicken and shrimp dumplings were great. The main dishes also were very good - all tge classic with a few specials were available.
Solid thai food in Murray Hill for both dine-in and delivery. I suggest trying the Moo Yang and Pork Spare Ribs, both of which I've ordered as entrees (just add rice!). Their curries are very flavorful, but a bit too soup-y for me, other than the Masaman Curry (probably because of the peanuts). Their noodle dishes are also great; not too oily like in some other restaurants. For dessert, try the coconut ice cream.
I ordered the khao soy curried egg noodles with chicken via takeout. The curry was delicious, as was the meal in general. "Mild" spice did have a kick to it. Overall, the portion size and protein given were less than expected for the price paid.
The first place I found whose pad thai is not ketchup-based version that dominate in this city. The Thai iced tea has strong tea falvor which I like. The Thai BBQ is bold and flavorful. On the other hand, the drunken noodles, the usually safe option, is surprisingly bland. Overall it is a homey neighborhood eatery with nice and mediocre choices to explore.
I ordered lunch special and a lemon iced tea for pick up. The food was fine, but the drink was a brisk iced tea in a can. For $3.75, it would be clearer to list it as "Brisk Iced Tea" on the menu so customers know exactly what they are getting.
Lovely eatery serving authentic, tasty Thai food in a simple, no-frills space. I stumbled into Little Basil with a friend for a quick, casual Friday dinner after getting off my train from DC. It seemed quite unassuming from the outside, tucked into a little side street with minimal signage and a pretty limited flow of people (seems like most of their business comes from pick-up and delivery vs. folks dining in), but it was phenomenal. The service was super efficient and friendly, and we were in and out of Little Basil within about an hour and a half, largely extended just because my friend and I enjoyed yapping away. The menu included most of the American Thai restaurant classics, and everything was prepared remarkably well. I had their pad see ew with tofu, which was fantastic; the noodles had a slight chew and really soaked up the sauce, and the tofu was quite flavorful. The tofu did seem a bit cold compared to the rest of the dish and the sauce was a little sweeter than I was accustomed to, but it was still a very tasty start to my NYC trip.
Appetizer was terrible. Two tiny dumplings. And a tiny bowl of soup but literally just tasted like flavored water. On the good side the Penang Curry was excellent. Please make sure you get it extra extra spicy. I got the lunch special which was about 10 bucks
Their food used to taste better but probably they changed their chef. These days their fried rice is just flavorless . I have been to Thailand 12 times and Thai restaurants in usa is not 10 percent close to authentic Thai food .
I like the lunch special price. However, the food quality was 3 out of 5 stars. The chicken didn’t taste fresh and the miso soup was not flavorful. I ordered the kee mao (drunken noodles) and I was disappointed unfortunately. Would I go back if my colleagues asked? Sure, but not my first option.
Nothing special or out of this world -- kind of disappointing if Im being honest. It was as basic as it gets, which isn't necessarily a bad thing; it certainly wasn't bad by any means. But I was so in the mood for Thai food -- the kind that just HITS -- and this just didn't manage to 'scratch that itch'. Plus, it was $22 with a tip for Pad Thai with Chicken. Hard pass. Friendly staff, but Ill definitely stick to trying other spots in Nomad/Gramercy instead.
Underwhelming… food didn’t taste good. Only thing I liked was their gyoza. If you go for their lunch special, it’ll come with soup/salad, and choices of appetizer (spring roll, gyoza, dumplings, etc) but otherwise, I don’t recommend because you can get better food elsewhere. Service was great though, waitress was attentive and friendly. The beef noodle soup’s noodle to broth ratio was off. There was too much noodles and broth was mid. My friend didn’t like her squid because she said it didn’t taste fresh, but frozen. The food here is not terrible, just not great. Maybe we just ordered the wrong items…
Food is fine but if your paying Apple Pay they WILL force you to tip by creating an awkward situation where they literally tap at the suggested tip and be like “tip 40%”? I’m ordering ur lunch special why should I tip if I don’t want to - then when I left a tip the person assisting me had a snark attitude because it was “too low”. There’s better food in this city, such a bad experience I’m writing my first ever review.
Tried to go with my sister on a night out in the city. She called to confirm it was BYOB and made a reservation for 5 pm. We walked past at 4:50 and it was still gated up with wet cement in the front roped off with cones, so we walked on to the park and went back at 5:10. Still gated up and no sign of anyone. Called twice and got no answer. We were very excited since the reviews were great, but we went elsewhere with our wine and business.
Food came quick and hot however little basil wings were half the size of normal wings and basically just breading with little to no meat. Guess they’re called *little* for a reason… but just Very different from other chili wings and mostly tasted like powdered lime seasoning, not crispy or spicy at all. Other than that, we ordered chicken/beef spicy basil and ginger beef and all came to the consensus that the dishes lacked that savory traditional Thai flavor and the sauce was very watered down. I always order Thai basil dishes and have never once been served broccoli. Altogether, pretty disappointing and not traditional at all. Quality of meat and overall flavor not worth price. Those who have left good reviews obviously haven’t had REAL quality thai food. First and last order.
I just ordered for delivery today through Uber eats to a hotel and specifically requested cutlery and napkins in the app order, & the food arrived with zero cutlery and zero napkins. When I called the restaurant to express my disappointment since this hotel doesn’t have loaner cutlery, the person who answered the phone was dismissive and didn’t try to offer any sort of support, and actually tried to blame me for it.🫠 I travel frequently to NYC and now know to never order here again. Lots of other options.
Disappointed. Greatly.. Today was the 1st time ordering from here. I've gotten the TomYum soup. I'm a fan of it. I've eaten it at several other locations mostly in Astoria and never had I gotten it with tomatoes in it. Today was a first. It changed the taste drastically. It taste like tomato soup 🥴It's just sitting there to be thrown away. Other food was decent but not worth the prices they have.. Won't be returning or recommending the location......
Came in with a group of Six. We asked if we could pick where to sit, and was rejected. Waitress seemed to be antagonistic toward us, like she expected we were going to dine and dash or something. Food was acceptable but small portions but the waitress almost took it before we finished. When it was time for the check, seemed like a waiter was monitoring us for some reason. As we left, it looked like some staff member was following us for some reason. Will not go back.
Ordered fried chicken shrimp dumplings! They were burnt! Very bad!
Came here because of the menu and because of BYOB. I saw great reviews & that this restaurant was BYOB. I show up with a group of 3 to an empty restaurant. We order food and ask for glasses for our bottle of wine. Allegedly it is $25 per bottle. My bottle wasn’t even $25. We offered to buy more food. We were planning to stick around for a few hours 2p-10pm but out of principle we left. The Surcharge is not listed anywhere and the restaurant was empty. I’ll take my business elsewhere, and I did, which I just left at 11:30pm.
