Opinions de Manny’s Bistro New York
On an evening walk I noticed this space reopened and was drawn in by the intimate hand written menu on the window. It reminded me of the every changing hand written menus that I would often see in restaurants within the Le Marais district of Paris—with simple but refined menu offerings. Decided to order the steak frites the next day and was taken aback by the quality of the meal! The steak was of an excellent cut, succulent, juicy and cooked to medium wellness perfection. (The steak was a very large portion of New York strip, easily satisfying me for two meals!) The frites were fresh and crispy despite being a curbside pickup. The owner Manny was incredibly personable and charming. Was happy to see him and the other man working the house with masks ON, but their glittering eyes revealed the warmest smiles beneath. I can’t wait to try more items on the menu, the duck and trout are calling my name. Will drop another review once I try these items.
Great food with a welcoming vibe and atmosphere. The owner Manny takes a lot of pride in all aspects of the restaurant. Everyone else who works here is so welcoming: Cesar, William, Naomi, and Pedro. We love coming here!
Delicious food in a delightful setting. It took some time for our meals to arrive, but the quality was excellent. I would totally recommend this place and will be back if in the neighborhood.
Lived around the corner from this restaurant for 10 years, it is hands down the best authentic French food on the UWS. It used to be called Cassis, and we were heartbroken when it closed in COVID. It has re-opened as Manny's (seems like the same staff) and the food and service are as impeccable as ever. Trust me, I've tried them all on the UWS--not only is the chef of this place very, very talented, but they also aren't buying cheap ingredients. If you are wishing you were in Paris right now biting down on something that makes your heart flutter with culinary pleasure, this is the place for you.
Manny delivers an exceptional experience. Staff is very friendly and attentive, while the food is exceptional. Great wine selection as well. We had a beautiful romantic dinner. I highly recommend this place!
This is a great neighborhood bistro. Manny himself is onsite hosting, serving, overseeing the restaurant. He and his staff are delightful. Food is terrific. Nice wine list. Comfortable atmosphere inside and outside.
Great FoisGras. Good Tuna Tatar. Nice service.
I had crab cake, sole meuniere, and apple pie with a bottle of Sancerre. Bill came at about 100 per person, very reasonable for the quality provided. Sole was delicious, and the rest was on par, kitchen is doing a great job. Service was less honed, with junior staff. Restaurant was not full on a saturday night, I wish the team more business, it would be well deserved.
Food, cocktails and service were friendly and welcoming! The bread is honestly the best French bread I have ever eaten -- great for soaking up the yummyness that comes with the escargot.
We enjoyed a fabulous meal on New Years Day from Manny's Bistro! From the chock full of crab crab cakes, perfectly cooked mussels, duck with an out of this world black currant sauce, a more than generous serving of totally delicious trout almandine ,crispy French fries and both the apple tart and creme brûlée. Thank you Manny for an exceptional meal! Welcome to the neighborhood! A dream come true!!
An absolute neighborhood delight. Manny is a gentleman and takes such good care of his patrons. Food is delicious... and so is the vino! Our go-to for any occasion.
Food was amazing. Definitely try the escargot if you can. Servers were very attentive and made certain we had everything we needed. The place was a little dark but that was the only issue with this place!
I love this place! Quite possibly the best French onion soup I have ever had. The ambiance, staff and owner are all exceptional. This is my new favorite neighborhood spot!
Great food, even better service! The homemade croissants are delightful. The french onion soup and house burger are must haves! And when the lobster ravioli special is on the menu, order 2!
Kitchen was closed, but they graciously allowed us to sit down and enjoy a drink. Couldn’t have been nicer. We look forward to returning for a full meal. Old school, attentive hospitality at its finest!
Went to Manny’s for a belated birthday dinner and was not disappointed! Muscles, steak and Coq au vin were delicious. Beautiful atmosphere and great food. A hidden gem!
A good friend suggested Manny's when we were in NYC the 1st week of June and we were not disappointed! The 4 of us went for lunch and selected the hanger steak, the crepe poulet, the trout almondine, and the burger, and all of us were pleased. The service was excellent and Manny is so very hospitable. For dessert, we shared the creme brulee, the sorbet, and the chocolate cake and finished with coffee/cappuccino. We also got to check out some of the excellent photography adorning the walls from Frank Stewart, the photographer for the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra for 30 years. We look forward to going again on our next visit - this time for Sunday brunch and live jazz!
We had a nice leisurely lunch at Manny’s. They were extremely accommodating with where you wanted to be seated and the wait staff attentive and really Manny was the perfect host. The food was classic, tasty French bistro food. The onion soup deserves special attention for being perfectly beefy and topped with crusty cheesy goodness. Everything else we ordered was tasty as well. You never feel rushed and it was a great way to spend a leisurely long lunch.
Great atmosphere with excellent tasteful live music. Such a relaxing dinner with excellent food. (They actually cook the meat "rear" if you ask for it -this is not easy in NYC-). Everything we ordered was very good! Saved on my "favorites" list. Cons: restrooms were incredibly disgusting... won't get into details but they should definitely review how to keep them better maintained.
A large group of us was there for a Christmas Eve lunch. Everyone loved the food. We had one of the best onion soup ever. The crab cakes were delightful. Everything was fresh. Manny and his servers team were very attentive and providing a joyous, relaxing atmosphere. Manny's helped us build a beautiful Christmas memory. Thank you.
Excellent, delicious food with big portions! Everyone needs to try this restaurant! You can tell the food is high quality and made to order. Our dishes came hot and everything was delicious. You have to try the Hamburger Maison with cheese! One of the best burgers we have ate in NYC! Fries were crispy and well seasoned. We also ordered the pasta Bolognese and the meat sauce was perfection. We will def be ordering again and going there to dine in!
I am from Miami, and if you want true quality french bistro away from tourist food and areas, this is the place. The owners are so special, and Teo is one of the most carismatic staff of the Bistro. Simply, a perfect restaurant.
This is our absolutely favorite go-to neighborhood French style bistro for delicious, fresh food and low-key ambience. Manny, the owner, and his team always provide comfort food with a special touch!! I recently had swordfish that was perfectly prepared with a lovely sauce and vegetable sides and divine chocolate profiteroles to finish. The warm bread with butter and the house pate is also a nice touch. My husband and I enjoy both the relaxed outdoor and inside dining, accompanied by nice cocktails and wine—friendly and relaxed and consistent!
We’re new to the neighborhood and when we tried Manny’s for dinner we knew we had our neighborhood spot. Because of the pandemic we have been ordering pick up and the food is always ready right as I arrive so that’s it’s still hot and fresh by the time I get home. They also deliver and have what looks like a very safe outdoor setup. The French onion soup is the best I’ve ever had and the burger + fries is perfection. For brunch I’ve had the ham and cheese omelet and Croque Monsier and both did not disappoint. To add to the amazing food, Manny is the friendliest. I never leave google reviews, but this is just the kind of neighborhood establishment I can’t help but want to support. Can’t wait for many more meals at Manny’s and being able to eat inside when it’s finally safe (the interior looks like the perfect French bistro/cafe vibe)!
One of the greatest spots to eat in New York with a great atmosphere, friendly staff and always present owner making sure you have a great time
Delightful local on UWS. I love that Manny is there to welcome guests and oversee the house. Food is great. A nice variety of wines by the glass and an impressive selection by the bottle. Warm atmosphere, attentive staff.
We had a delightful brunch at the charming Manny’s Bistro. The food was excellent - especially enjoyed the French onion soup. The wait staff and service was attentive and friendly. We look forward to going back again soon.
EDIT: updating my review 1/31/21 to say that there is now an outdoor dining set up here that looks fantastic and cozy! I highly recommend Manny’s Bistro. I ordered for takeout, but look forward to dining indoors ASAP. The onion soup was perfect, and the burger I was delicious & cooked just as I requested. Will be back!
We happened to go on a night where we had the whole interior of the restaurant to ourselves! All of the wait staff were warm and friendly and I wish we could remember their names! There is one waiter from Brazil and he was such a sweet man! The food was delicious and the entire atmosphere was romantic and inviting!
Excellent food (watermelon salad, orange duck), and an amazing atmosphere with an fantastic jazz band playing outside, and Tony Danza joining in for a few songs. It was one of those randomly awesome New York experiences.
Delicious brunch. Good portion size. Thoughtfully prepared dishes with fresh ingredients. Relaxed atmosphere where the music volume is low enough that you can talk with a normal voice. Will definitely come again.
On a whim our group decided to drop in here for a late dinner. It was my first time dining at a French restaurant and I’m not sure anything else will ever compare. I had the best steak of my entire life. Period. Not sure I want to even get steak again for fear of tainting my memory of its exquisite taste. Panna cotta was on point as well. As is mentioned by some other comments, the food does take a while to come, which I actually think is a positive thing. It allows you to fully enjoy the company of others and have stimulating conversation without feeling like you are being rushed out. If you have a chance to drop in, do it. Incredible meal, incredible experience. Definitely would recommend.
I had the duck a l'orange and it was delicious. Very good wine selection and impeccable serving.
Incredible ambiance, warm staff, excellent service, and DELICIOUS food. As a man who has never been to France, I can't speak to what French food should be or is. However, as a native New Yorker and food LOVER, this restaurant is easily in my top 10 in NYC. My girlfriend and I always feel so comfortable when we walk in, and satisfied when we leave. We have had the pleasure of enjoying the French Onion Soup, Caesar Salad, Duck w/Black Currant Sauce, Filet of Sole, and Halibut. This has been our second visit to this wonderful establishment, and there will be many, many more to come. 5 stars across the board!
Had the gazpacho to start! It was so delicious!!! For my main course, I had the Chicken Francaise, which was also so delicious. It came with a side of Linguine. For desert, I had the warm apple tart with vanilla ice cream. It was scrumptious. My only critique is that it should have been served with more ice cream. It cdm with one small scoop. Ill be back!
I visited Manny’s randomly while in town for work and I’m so glad I stumbled upon it! The service was great, the food was delicious (the trout was fantastic!) and I even met Manny himself. A very quaint French restaurant that was perfect to enjoy a glass of wine and my book and not feel out of place. Highly recommend!
You can't beat Manny's for a great french brasserie experience. Manny is a wonderful owner/host and the food and wine are exemplary.
This was our first time here. We dropped in for dinner and without a reservation and they took fitted us in. The food was delicious! We had escargot and the carrot ginger soup. Oth were very tasty. The ginger flavor in the soup was subtle and a wonderful addition. The escargot was excellent and the French bread with its juices was perfect. My wife had the seafood pasta special, which she thoroughly enjoyed. It was not a heavy dish. The different seafood blended well. I had the lamb special, which came with a wonderful lamb sauce came with a light mashed potatoes and green beans. I highly recommend it. The lamb was juicy and tender. The key lime pie is a must, fluffy and floating on air. You have to try it. Mark, our waiter, was attentive and knowledgeable. The decor was nice, evoking France. It was a bit noisy but I only noticed it at the end, as we were getting to leave. We will return.
A perfect and classic French bistro. Lovely ambiance and friendly staff, especially the owner Manny. Live music on Sundays is so special and the french fries are out of this world. Everything is a hit! An upper west side gem.
Wonderful dining experience. Staff was attentive and pleasant. The calamari with tomato sauce was spectacular, best I've ever had. The lobster ravioli was subtle but great. The halibut was also very good. The key lime pie was exquisite, also the best I've ever had. Manny himself is also very hospitable. Would definable recommend and will definitely be back.
My wife and I had dinner here. Service is warm, friendly, and fast. Food is excellent - we both went with the nightly specials (lamb and halibut, respecitvely). They were cooked properly, presented well, and had generous portions. 100% recommend this for a date night or when you're looking for a bit of comfort and comfort food. Also, Manny is a real person!
Marianne (sp) was absolutely amazing. A friend and I ran into this place because it was raining and we were celebrating. Marianne ended up recommending the best chicken I’ve ever had and a white wine so good it became the first bottle I had ever bought. It was an amazing experience. This restaurant, and it’s lemon custard and chicken, ate officially my go to place.
The staff here are extremely attentive and detailed. There was one waiter in particular who knew the menu like the back of his hand and could probably write a book about each dish alone. I have never had a waiter that passionate about the food before. He made a great rec for wine too. (Don't remember his name but the guy looks like Daniel Radcliffe). Food was also really good.
We loved Cassis which was at this same location, and where Manny's owner previously worked, but we love Manny’s namesake bistro even more. Manny has created a warm, inviting environment with honest good food. He is such a sincere guy. When we dine there, it truly feels like we are stepping into his home. The menu is boutique and curated - just like what you'd expect in a small Parisian bistro - and we appreciate that since the ingredients are local and fresh. The bread is always warm, the butter is always plentiful. We love the attention to detail, and we appreciate Manny's attention to his diners without all the pushiness. We love having this gem in our neighborhood!
Manny’s is my favorite local French bistro. The staff feels like a part of my family after brunching and dining here for nearly 20 years. The food is delicious. Make sure to ask for extra butter and pate with your bread. Everything is good, seriously. 10/10
My family thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Manny’s! The service was incredible. Our server, Damien, was absolutely amazing. He was so outgoing and helpful, as was the rest of the staff. The food and drinks were great. The ambience was perfect for a Friday night out after the opera. 10/10!
We had a lovely dinner at Manny’s last night. It is highly recommended if you are looking for a cozy or romantic evening out. The food is absolutely superb from appetizer to dessert and waiters are warm and very attentive. Our new favorite restaurant in NY.
We had a great time. The waitress was friendly and attentive. The food was good; I really enjoyed the foie gras and the bavette à la Bordelaise. Definitely recommend!
Manny and his team are fantastic. Fun, attentive, hospitable and made us feel so welcome. The food was phenomenal, the wine list is broad and well priced. Great restaurant and can’t wait to go back.
Delicious - I had mixed salad, followed by the sole, and then profiteroles. The fish was perfectly cooked with a very tasty Meunière sauce and perfectly cooked and crunchy green beans and baby roast potatoes. Classic French fare - great service. Wonderful neighborhood spot. Would highly recommend.
The food and service are solid so it’s a great place 7 days a week but if nothing else, you need to come on Sunday between 5 and 8pm for the outdoor jazz show with dance performances. Such a great atmosphere on the sidewalk. The whole neighborhood comes out to cheer and watch. Evan really took good care of us.
Almost didn’t eat here but the vibe pulled me and my girlfriends in for a try!! The wait staff greeted us with a big smiles and we chose to be seated in the outdoor (covered) area which was absolutely beautiful inside!!🤩Felt like we were in a Paris Bistro!! 🇫🇷 Adrien, our main waiter, was super professional and friendly, an authentic French man who was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and made us feel like we were priority! From the Watermelon Salad to the Pomme Frites to the Iced Cappuccino, everything was fresh and delicious! We will be back and 💯 will be asking for Adrien to be our server! Merci Adrien and all the staff at Manny’s!! Keep up the amazing job, food and smiles!! A bientot!! Fondly, The Boston Girls😚
Profiteroles were fantastic. Crepe was a different style than I am used to (over fried), but the filling was excellent.
Excellenr French bistro. The politesse is exacly what you'd expect in a good NYC French bistro. Onglet about as good as any other I could compare it to. The Filet of Sole is alo not to be missed. (Oh, BTW, excellent sides on both those dishes. The chocolate mousse is as good as it gets.
I come here every time I am in NYC—would have been four times this week. But the fourth time I walked away. It was the first time I had rude service from the hostess. Will I go back, maybe. Just maybe. So disappointed. I love this place. We like to sit at the bar, high table at the window. Crab cakes are good. Mussels are great. Cesar salad is yummy. It is a bit pricey. But dependably delightful.
The service was perfect. Water glasses never empty. No intrusive asking how we're doing every 15 minutes. Only complaint was the steak tartare was heavy on the Tabasco and the Magret du Canard was a little oddly presented. The portion was small while the Duck a l'orange was much larger. Will surely be back.
My boyfriend and I decided to stop in before a movie on a Sunday night. When we arrived for our reservation, there was a live band playing for both the indoor and outdoor guests, which was a fun and welcome surprise! Almost all tables were full, and there was a nice ambient chatter throughout. When we sat, our server was friendly, timely, and knowledgeable. We split the Caesar salad and a French onion soup, which were both very good! We also each got the steak frites, one rare and one medium rare. The steaks were cooked to perfection, and the fries were crispy and well-seasoned. I knocked off one star only because it seemed a little overpriced, especially for the soup and salad, but I guess that’s just NYC for ya. It was great experience overall!
I have been here twice recently, and distinctly had a four star experience both times. The atmosphere is a retro French bistro feel which is pretty common along the Upper East Side and Upper West Side. The owner, and namesake of the restaurant, Manny, makes his rounds to every table during lunch service. The food and coffee is just very average, and leaves the diner wanting more. Both times I had dishes with Gruyère cheese which I found too mild for a traditional dish that relies so heavily on this fromage for its flavor - namely the French Onion Soup and Coque Monsieur. I will continue to come here for the vibes, but will not choose a dish featuring the Gruyère cheese again.
I pass by this place daily and finally decided to stop in. I was intrigued by one of their specials, golden beet and apple soup. It was cold which I did not expect and it was delicious. I could have just had this for lunch. I also ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and fries and both were good, nothing spectacular but good. I wouldn’t mind returning for dinner or even breakfast. The staff were friendly and attentive. I have also seen Tony Danza singing here on occasion so it’s worth a stop, you never know.
Manny's Bistro delivers a lovely brunch/lunch experience. I enjoyed the Eggs Benedict. A friend had the Smoked Salmon Benedict, another had Croque Monsieur and another had a bunless burger. The presentation was lovely and appetizing. Everything was delicious. The music was loud, but the four in my party could hear each other enough to talk.
Warm and cozy bistrot serving authentic French cuisine. The food is fresh and flavorful. The salmon was tasty and the skin perfectly crisp. The lentils were delightful, but I would have liked them better without the spinach. The mashed potatoes were exquisite with the right amount of butter and milk. I ended dinner with the chocolate cake which is better described as a chocolate lava cake because the cake was not baked all the way through. The cake was decadent and bittersweet which was a nice contrast to the vanilla ice cream which was on the sweeter side. The cake was baked at a too high temperature though as the outside was too hard and the inside was pure cake batter. I hope the chef will adjust. Service was excellent. I will gladly return.
Will return. Between the recitals at Juilliard we stopped here for a quick dinner. Despite of their computer or network is down, and couple of items are not available, I find this bistro charming, with good service and food. Hot bread 🥖, soft butter 🧈; French fries 🍟 crispy Clams Escargot 🐌 Handwritten bill Bathroom is downstairs Chardonnay is yummy, better than the pinot noir.
Very busy on a Saturday night but service was slow. Had staff spill water and almost drop a knife on my foot. Escargot was quality. Steak tartare was a bit undercooked. Steak frites about average.
This restaurant is not as good under the new owner. French onion soup has a burnt taste. Not edible. Other entree dishes were ok but not special. This used to be my favorite restaurant in the area. Now need to find a new restaurant.
Someone sent me to Manny”s from Cafe Luxembourg when I mentioned mussels. The frites were great, but the mussels, despite their size absorbed no flavor from the sauce. Bland. Weird space. Decent yet standoffish service. Meh.
Employees were pretty rude and the outdoor seating policy seems inconsistent. I was asked for my credit card before I even ordered, while someone who sat down at a table next to me did not have to provide their card at all to eat outside. I was also shouted at when I went inside to use the bathroom. I ordered fries, they were edible. The person next to me had a salad with tuna that they said was really good.
I've eaten at every restaurant in the neighborhood for more than 20 years. This was my first time at Manny's. Most of the food was excellent and some things were exceptional, like the coq au vin special and the frites. But the service--while polite and friendly--was the worst I've ever had. It took 4 requests to receive a place-setting.The cocktails came long after the wine. We asked for butter and salt with the bread (one piece, no more was offered), twice, and it never arrived. The main course took 75 minutes -- so long that the waitress came to take our dessert order and, upon hearing we hadn't received our entrees, did nothing. Everyone got the wrong utensils. We received the wrong soda, the wrong side dishes, and ran out of time to order dessert. The check was incorrect, charging me for replacing the items they had sent incorrectly. We expressed our concern to the waitstaff and to Manny, yet nothing was done. No one even came over to see if everything was okay. It's a real shame because the food was very very good, but the experience- the errors, the lack of attention, the infinite wait--- made me feel like the $400 spent on dinner for 3 wasn't worth it. And I'd love to come back for the food--the chef deserves enormous credit-- but the experience overall was so disappointing it's hard to imagine doing it again.
The food tasted ok so they get 2 stars, but overpriced and the service was terrible. The $17 for mesclun salad was criminal. was the size of a side salad with a couple cherry tomatoes and balsamic dressing. $10 for a tiny side of French Fries. $26 for a small cheeseburger and a very skimpy side of French fries. But the service was straight up rude. We asked to move to a different open table and the waitress basically said no, didn’t give a reason, and dismissed us. Anytime trying to get their attention it had to be as they were coming and going. They couldn’t actually be bothered to stop to see what was needed. The location is great and the food tasted ok but not worth it when there’s so many other options around and with better service.
A Disappointment All Around – We Won’t Be Returning We were repeat customers, but this last visit sealed the deal — we’re done. The owner was downright rude and dismissive, which left everyone in our party shocked and insulted. It’s one thing to have an off day, but to treat loyal customers with such disregard is unacceptable. They’ve clearly shrunk the portion sizes since our last visit. Two of us ordered Diet Coke with ice on the side because in the past, they’ve filled the glass mostly with ice and just a splash of soda. Well, this time they served us about 4.5 ounces of soda — in a half-filled glass — and a separate cup of ice. When we politely said something, they added maybe another half ounce. It felt petty, like they were measuring it out with an eyedropper. The food? Mediocre at best. Not worth the prices or the attitude. And the service was just as underwhelming. The waiter ignored our empty water glasses, and when finally asked, filled only one — despite the rest of us sitting there clearly parched. Unwelcoming, stingy, and indifferent. There are too many good restaurants in this city to waste time or money here. Total turn-off.
Customer Service: Wait staff made a conscious effort to acknowledge the patrons. The bus wait staff, completely non-attentive. Had to repeatedly ask for the same items several times including the waiter. Food: Appetizer - Mussels, not fresh - full stop. Size of appetizer, suffice for a child. Steak au Poivre - The strip steak was beyond horrific. Extremely Dry, thin cut, size of a hockey puck. Desert - stale - not fresh. Beverage - wine list options - few! Avoid this quote-on-quote French Bistro, an insult to French Cuisine. Stay away.
Won’t be going back here. Stopped in for a glass of wine last week with a friend before seeing a movie, and the bartender not only overcharged me by 4 bucks he also charged my card twice for my friend’s part of the check with the total coming to 57 bucks for one glass of wine. He also charged my friends card on top of that. Not cool.
I recently visited Manny's Bistro and had a disappointing experience with the owner and staff. Unfortunately, they were very rude when I didn't order an extensive amount of food. Instead of providing a welcoming atmosphere, there was discrimination, and the owner's response was far from hospitable. Comments like, "You come here to my busy restaurant and order just a soup; we are not going to pay attention to you," left a sour taste. It's disheartening to see such behavior in a neighborhood restaurant. Hospitality should be a priority, and my encounter at Manny's Bistro fell short of that expectation.
Customer service was most certainly lacking at Manny's Bistro this weekend. We live in the area and like to support local business and have done so throughout the height of COVID. We went for brunch and were extremely disappointed. The food was mediocre at best, the french toast was stale, drinks were warm. Our waitress was very accomdating , however the bus service/food runner staff need lessons in service skills. To simply drop plates on the table with an attitude for asking for an added item is unacceptable. It could possibly be that Manny was not in the restaurant today during brunch but in any event, he should be made aware of the deficiencies noted today. Overall it was not a pleasant dining experience. We personally won't be returning for brunch!
Very bad service. The server was rude and when we told him we were vegetarians, he started giving us looks for ordering just 2 appetisers, he also stopped paying attention to our table. When a guy serving bread to everybody served us some, our server gestured him to not serve any bread to our table! Felt next level discrimination! Neither us nor the people we know will ever visit the place.
Server took our order and we never saw him again. Overbooked and crowded with people just standing around waiting to be seated for their reservations, jammed up against my table, apologizing. Good food. Terrible experience. AVOID.
Very disturbing & disrespectful I advise no one to come here I had my ID taken because i was accused of it not being real after showing my passport (I had a unexpired id & had just ordered a new one) & had to call the cops to get my id back & was pushed down by a short fat bouncer called Manny. As a female this is very unprofessional that this happened especially because this a reoccurrence thing. I spoke to other people outside while the police was situating this issue & said they had similar issues with this place. this place needs to get shut down, or find new bouncers with common sense.
Avoid this place at all costs. My daughter is 39 weeks pregnant and asked a server if she could please use the restroom. The server said yes. She started heading downstairs but the maitre d’ then chased after her from outside and told her she couldn’t use it. She was completely humiliated in front of the other dining guests. We live in the neighborhood but will never dine here again. My daughter said the restaurant wasn’t even half full. Unacceptable.
I arrived on time for my reservation. When we arrived, there were other people also waiting who had clearly been there for some time. There were two hosts on the sidewalk, chatting aimlessly instead of seating people. We waited for *anyone at all* to acknowledge us, along with those other customers waiting to be seated, inside the restaurant for about 10 min. Even waitstaff brushed by us as if we were in the way. The bartender ignored us completely, although we were right next to the bar. After 10 mins we left. I don't think any restaurant that can't even be bothered to seat you can possibly have acceptable service standards.
I had an extremely upsetting experience at Manny’s Bistro. I arrived hoping to enjoy a meal, but I was never offered a seat — despite the restaurant not appearing to be full. The staff, including the owner, made me feel clearly unwelcome. It became apparent that I was being singled out because of my background as a Persian from the diaspora. Being denied service based on who you are is deeply painful and unacceptable. No one should have to experience discrimination in any setting, especially not in a place meant to offer hospitality. I left feeling humiliated and shocked. I sincerely hope the management reflects on how they treat people. I would not recommend this place to anyone who expects to be treated with basic decency and respect.
Very poor service. My friend's food had hair in it and the restaurant did not apologize at all; the manager was disrespectful and rude- did not take any accountability, and walked away mid-conversation. Will not be returning here and do not recommend this place to anybody else.
Super rude. Food is mid. Avoid. They make you order a full plate item when I can only eat small amounts of food. Said we have to leave if we don’t order what manny considers a full meal. Owner was so rude. Will not go back
We stop by for drinks and small bites at this place.ok but given our dietary restrictions we didnt have any choices for food so we ordered a drinks. We were surprise the owner came by twice w/an attitude saying “u have to have dinner at the table”! eventhough they’re were many open seat/table.Also charges $12 for a beer and there is no prices on the menu.As a local Upper West Sider neighborhood go somewhere else that is welcoming.Do not waste your time and dollar here
Went there June 30th and got the worst food poisoning of my life from their salad. I ended up in the ER by dehydration (humidity in the environment didn’t help).
I have eaten here several times and enjoyed the food. I went again on Tuesday, May 3, 2025 & got a very different experience. The endive salad was so bad I returned it. My friend’s omelette was barely edible & looked very strange but she attempted to eat it after removing most ingredients. I ordered filet of sole, which was bland but I ate it-not very good. The latte was pretty weird and not drinkable so returned it. The owner in an tirade told us we were difficult & he would remember us. Was that a threat? Trust me I thought highly of this restaurant and recommended it to my friend. I was embarrassed she had such an unpleasant experience. What a disappointment!
The owner/manager is very rude and disrespectful. If you are a parent, or have any dissability, avoid this place. They clearly do not want strollers, kids, or any other condition that “bothers” their busy restaurant. We didn’t even had dinner there and had to go out and look for another place.
Me and my sister came to this restaurant and we were met with poor service throughout the entire process. For starters when we sat down, the server came to us and said “just so you know we don’t take Apple Pay” Then, they brought out food with hair in it and refused to take it off the bill or apologize. The manager came out and was avoidant and walked away while we were talking to him. Terrible service, and the quality of food is obviously poor.
I have never been so rudely treated by a restaurant manager/owner. We went to look at a menu for the next few days, and the owner was rude. Basically telling me to go away as he sucked on his glass of red wine. Perhaps he was drunk or perhaps he is just a nasty person. It could be the last restaurant in Manhattan and I still wouldn’t eat here
I had one of the worst customer service experiences at Manny’s Bistro on Columbus Avenue. I was seated by a waiter while waiting for my father, who was just 10 minutes away. I had ordered something to drink, and instead was approached by a man who was not my waiter. My child was asleep in my arms, and I had a carriage full of bags with me. Despite this, the manager came over and told me I had to get up and wait outside in the rain until my father arrived. The restaurant was basically empty maybe one or two other patrons inside so there was absolutely no reason for such cruel and inconsiderate treatment. Forcing a mother with a sleeping child and a stroller full of bags to stand outside in bad weather when there were plenty of available tables was beyond disrespectful. I will never return and cannot recommend this place to anyone. If you are a parent, or simply someone waiting for a guest, avoid Manny’s Bistro. There are many other restaurants nearby that treat people with the decency and kindness this one clearly lacks.
