I'm really pleased with the outdoor dining experience I had here! I noted on my Open Table reservation that we were celebrating my friend's birthday, and the waiter brought out a plate with some tasty almond cookies and a candle that said "Happy Birthday" without my even asking or mentioning it that day, which I thought was so nice! I'd recommend ordering off the full menu, my brunch dish was nice but I think the pastas, etc. are nicer. Lovely to still have an upscale experience on a sidewalk ;) Additionally, you can review your bill and pay contactless via QR code, which I am a HUGE fan of.
Wonderful restaurant, great service and very pleasant atmosphere. The wine selection is mainly Italian wines but they have the wine list posted online and I suggest you review it before you get to the restaurant. Try the Zabaione—delicious!
Excellent brunch with live jazz. I don’t understand the people who say the service is indifferent, it is an Italian restaurant with authentic Italian people. They leave you alone to enjoy your meal. It was fantastic, thank you.
My wife and I went to NYC to see the next to last day of the John Singer Sargent in Paris exhibition at the Met. My wife had read a book about Carly Simon and Jackie Kennedy Onassis having lunch at the Leopard at des Artistes. Otherwise, I would have never heard of it. (Sorry for the lengthy introduction). Our dinner was spectacular!! I had the Dover Sole and my wife had a chicken dish. Both were spectacular. Gabriella, our server, couldn’t have been nicer, nor the staff. The murals were great!! Painted in the 1920’s. Very historic and the ambiance is very nice!! Unfortunately, lunch is only available on weekends. Can’t wait to go back!!!! Scott Talkington
A pleasant place with a cozy interior and delicious food. There are a couple of outdoor tables for those who enjoy dining "al fresco". Convenient location if you're planning dinner before the opera or ballet at Lincoln Center, or a stroll through Central Park after Sunday brunch. They have jazz brunches on weekends to set the mood too. I recommend ordering the VITELLO TONNATO as an appetizer. The combination of veal and fish sauce is superb! And the ZABAIONE for dessert will not only please the eye during its preparation but also pamper your taste buds, if you appreciate food presentations. Definitely a place to have saved on your "Places to eat at" list.
We came here for our anniversary dinner, and it was a great choice. The restaurant has a classy yet cozy vibe, with white tablecloths and beautiful murals. For starters, we had the grilled octopus and the pumpkin and black truffle flan—both were super flavorful and paired perfectly with their sauces. For the main course, I had a fish dish cooked in olive oil, white wine, and lemon, served with sautéed spinach—light, perfectly prepared, and so flavorful. The staff carefully deboned and plated it tableside. My partner went for the slow-cooked Ragu Napoletano. I didn’t try it, but he really enjoyed it. Dessert was a cute surprise—our tiramisu had “Happy Anniversary” written in chocolate, a thoughtful detail that made the night feel even more special. Every dish was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. Even the complimentary bread and arancini were a treat. Service was great overall, but there was one odd thing with the wine. We ordered a bottle of white, and instead of opening it at the table and keeping it in an ice bucket nearby, they took it somewhere else. It wasn’t a big deal since they kept our glasses full, but it was just something we hadn’t experienced before. Maybe we should’ve asked to have it kept at the table, but it didn’t really bother us. Other than that, everything was fantastic. The staff was warm and friendly, and our server even took some great photos for us to remember the occasion. We’ll be coming back!
Overall rating: 4.5 Definitely not being the target audience of this place, I’ll try my hardest to keep my review subjective. My friend that I went with has been here a few times, so when I arrived with them - the staff was friendly. They were accommodating & nice from what I remember. This is what we ordered: - Gambero Rosso: 6/5 shrimp carpaccio. So so good. - Sformato di zucca e tartufo nero: 4/5 oof too filling for an appetizer; wish we chose for something lighter - Tavolo Rustica 1/5 wayyy too basic for $42. DO NOT ORDER. - Capesante 4/5 eh nothing special (scallops) - Candele Zucca e salsiccia - 5/5 I thought this was good. But by the time, I ate it. My stomach was already declining. Towards the end of it, I definitely had way too much lactose because my body was feeling it. Thank goodness it was a solo bathroom. Overall, it was nice to see how the other side lives but can’t say the place blew me out of the water that I’m dying to come here again if I was a millionaire.
Oh, des Artistes I love you. A New York gem of a building and ambiance to dine in. The jazz brunch is my favorite time to dine, with delicious options of more breakfast oriented and also pasta or steak options if you’re feeling like diving in. The menu is excellently curated with a diversity of flavors and colors, from salads to seafood and meats between dishes like the tuna tartare, steak and eggs, ragu pasta and some fun desserts like the Zabaione prepared in front of the table. Banana pancakes with ricotta is a classic for brunch. The food is good quality and menu is great but I feel some of the dishes are unbalanced, too salty or sweet, and I’ve had a couple underwhelming dinners so four. (Overcooked steak, pasta with very little sauce, a complaint). The sparking and white wines are great, but you’d be missing out if you didn’t also indulge in some of the exquisite reds from their extensive Italian wine list (by region/ wine character). Overall, dining at The Leopard can be an excellent experience, thank you.
We had a fabulous experience at The Leopard for my husband’s birthday. One of our group of four was delayed about 20 minutes due to a flight issue, yet we were promptly seated without him so that he could join us when the flight issue was resolved. We appreciated being seated despite our party not being complete! The night we went, there was some kind of private event going on so we had to sit outside. However, the outdoor seating was lovely - the best outdoor dining experience I’ve had yet in the city! It was a warm evening and yet the mosquitoes didn’t bite me to death, and the turf grass was a really nice touch. Our server was incredible. She was a true professional. She had excellent recommendations and she also sent over an excellent sommelier when we were deciding on wine. The wine was fantastic - a smoky, earthy French wine that I don’t recall the name of (forgot to snap a pic of the bottle 🤦♀️) and the sommelier steered us in a perfect direction. While the pre-dinner cocktails and dishes themselves came out slowly due to the private event, the staff was very accommodating and expressed their apologies. The food really made everything perfect. For dessert, everyone got something sweet except for me — I had their cheese plate. Highly recommend. Definitely recommend going here for a special event! And you need a reservation! All in all, it was lovely.
Upscale Italian restaurant. High end service. We both order the ossobucco which came with a saffron risotto and shared the ragu as a starter. We also ordered a side of mixed vegetables which was the strangest mix I had seen at an Italian restaurant -- corn, tomatoes, cut asparagus. I also ordered a red wine per the suggestion of the server which was delicious.
I am a single woman and I had a reservation and yet when I arrived the hostess offered me a spot at the bar. I declined and I got a table in the back by the bar where people pass to use the toilet as well as employees passing repeatedly. I never saw the pretty paintings on the wall. I wonder when fine restaurants will begin to treat single women diners with the same respect they give to their other customers. I don’t care that my tab will be less and the restaurant shouldn’t either. It should be about providing every person with a lovely experience. Treat your single women customers like a queen, not a pauper. The server pushed me to have an appetizer after I said I would be having a salad as my first course. I don’t want sales as a part of my dining experience. The beet salad was fresh and the earthy beets paired with the frisée and little dollops of cheese and nuts was pleasant. The halibut in the tiny bit of thyme sauce was perfect and the three little carrots were nice but the grilled endive was a huge misstep. The grilled endive was tough and tasted of a grill. No one wants the charcoally grill as a flavor component in their mouths. The server tried to tell me it is a traditional Italian dish and while that it true, it is not true that it is cold and tough and tastes like the grill. It should be tender with a mellow flavor that doesn’t bite your tongue. Needless to say, It didn’t pair well with the rest of the dish. The dish wanted a bit of potato or cauliflower puree. Thank goodness for the few tomatoes on the halibut or it might have been a beautifully cooked piece of fish with no flavors to elevate it. The lemon meringue tart was very nice although there were too many meringues on it making it too sweet. The little dollops of cream on the plate served the lemon curd of the tart much better. My bill was $164.
Enjoyed a prix fixe menu during restaurant week. It's a cozy, relatively small, culinary joint with a rustic theme. Only half way into the dinner, did I notice their murals along the wall, which I believe they are also known for. The food was very good and I was satisfied with the portion size. Service was impeccable. I'm not cultured enough to understand the concept of a coat check. Therefore, I was glad to find out their coat check was optional. Overall a fine dining experience.
Service by the waiter was indifferent. When we mentioned that the appetizer was not hot he thought it was a joke. I asked the Maitre D the waiter's name and told him it was to not have him again this did not even invite a question about our experience
I used to love this place as a treat. Now I find it unreliable and over priced for the quality of the not so special food. I’ve been twice in the last 6 months. On one occasion, I had a martini that was undrinkable and had to request someone mix a new one. On the other the tuna tartare was so over salted that we had to send it back. We were disappointed enough not to order entrees. We finished our drinks and appetizers and went elsewhere in the neighborhood to finish dinner. I’m hoping managment can turn it back around.
Disappointing experience..went to celebrate birthday. Was seated by door..asked for another table of which there were some available.but was not offered one.so felt the cold every time door was opened The waiter was quite unattentive and brusk. Was not helpful when ordering..barely gave an adequate pour of wine.the pasta appetizer came cold...and when ordering dessert was going to walk away before done with selection. The overall atmosphere is quite well appointed but sadly service brings down the rating
Food was just okay, which is not okay. I expect excellence and it didn't come close. My veal chop was bland even with their sauce. The pasta we ordered for the table was disappointing. Service was very good, as well as the decor, but if the food doesn't deliver, don't expect me to arrive. Too bad, since this restaurant used to be a real winner on the west coast of NYC.
I ate here before the Ballet, I ordered the veal chop, it was practically inedible!! It was overcooked and it had foul smell!! I could hardly cut it. I was with business associates, so I couldn’t make a big deal and send it back but I I quietly mentioned it to the waitress, she said nothing and couldn’t care less!!! I was shocked!!! She actually walked away! How could a good restaurant allow this to happen? How could a good restaurant overcook a $60 plus veal chop and think it’s OK? Does a restaurant like this keep foul food around? Ever since eating here, my stomach has been hurting me all night! What a shame! I got engaged in this restaurant, had such fond memories, now I have such unpleasant memories!! Management, you should be ashamed of yourselves!
My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary, and our experience was disappointing. Our appetizer was a salad with a sauce that didn't go well with the dish, and the pasta was undercooked and bland. I told the waiter I wanted to speak to the manager, and a bald, elderly Italian man came over and started lecturing me, saying it was an exclusive restaurant. It's anything but exclusive; it looks more like it's in decline and neglected. The manager was very unprofessional, with an arrogant and pretentious attitude. I will never go back And in the end, they never remembered our anniversary celebration.
