Opinions de omakase Osukāā New York
Best stumbled on joy I’ve experienced. It’s not a secret that sushi is my favorite but this was exceptional. It should cost more than it does but don’t underestimate the value because it’s not more expensive…for those that chase the best. Every bite was exquisite. New tastes were exciting for me. I hadn’t had belt fish. The starter Kumoto oyster immediately inspired me to do the entire 17 piece omakase. The uni was the best of the best. It’s omakase so sit and pamper your taste buds. This place is more than worth the stop. It’s a needle in a haystack. James was both professional and nice to everyone. He was friendly and informative without being overbearing or condescending ever!
Chef Takeshi and James held it down for a transcendent omakase experience. There’s something to be sad about experiencing the actual craft and selection from an artisan. Sometimes you just gotta treat yourself and take it slow to appreciate the finer things in life. The service was very attentive and I love the way. Chef was willing to engage about the different fishes and how he prepared them. Hard to put into words, but it was definitely a great tour of different kinds of fish and textures. I had the 17 piece.
Chef Vincent is incredible. I went to Omakase OSUKAA yesterday and loved it so much that I came back again today. Every piece of sushi was perfectly balanced, from the toro, uni, and caviar to the creative hand rolls, and you can really taste how fresh the fish is. The pacing, explanation of each course, and warm service made the whole experience feel personal and relaxed rather than rushed. For the quality of the omakase, the price feels very fair, especially in Midtown East. This is easily one of my favorite omakase spots in the city and I will definitely keep coming back.
Dining at Omakase OSUKAA Midtown East was nothing short of spectacular. From the moment I sat down, Chef Sam took me on a culinary journey that was equal parts artistry, precision, and pure joy. Each course felt like a carefully crafted story—beautifully balanced, deeply flavorful, and visually stunning. Sam doesn’t just prepare sushi; he performs it. His attention to detail and his passion for the craft are evident in every slice, sear, and brush of soy. The way he explained the origin of each fish, the subtle seasoning techniques, and the perfect temperature of the rice—it was like watching a master painter bring a canvas to life with each brushstroke. Beyond his incredible skill, Sam’s warm personality made the evening even more special. He creates an atmosphere that’s both elegant and inviting—equal parts fine dining and friendly conversation. If you’re in Midtown East and want an omakase experience that will completely ruin you for all others, this is it. Trust me—sit at Sam’s counter, surrender your palate, and let him do his magic. You’ll be smiling long after dessert. 🍣✨
Enjoyed this omakase experience - worth the price. Sushi was so good and the service good as well! Be prepared for delicious but unexpected flavor combinations. Definitely recommend a reservation because of the counter-only seating.
It is a very nice experience to try the Omakase sushi menu. It was the first time for my son and he loved it. The flavours with each piece ... the place was very nice. The attendant with a big smile and very helpful. They have a set of 13 courses or 17 courses and sure you can add on.
I've already been here three times, even though it's a relatively new spot! It's a hidden gem near Grand Central Station—super convenient, delicious, and unbelievably reasonably priced. Each time I've visited, there was a different chef, and each brought their own unique style. Tonight, we were served by a Japanese chef, and the experience was distinctly different from my previous visits. While the past meals were beautifully crafted and visually stunning, tonight's omakase really highlighted the pure, aged flavors of the fish itself. My husband absolutely loved it. For me, there were about three pieces that were a bit challenging, but everything else was truly exquisite—melt-in-your-mouth quality. There are a few set options: • 10-course lunch omakase for $59 • 13-course (12 sushi + dessert) for $79 • 17-course full experience for $109 The space is cozy and quiet, making it perfect for focusing on each course. The staff was kind and attentive, and the meal pairs really well with Japanese sake or beer. A wonderful dining experience overall.
We had a wonderful time at Osukaa over the last three days. Sam truly spoiled us with incredibly delicious sushi—I honestly could have eaten it every single day! The service was consistently attentive, very polite, and courteous. 🫶🏽 Thank you so much for this beautiful memory of our time in NYC. We hope to be back very soon! 🫶🏽
Excellent and affordable omakase, $79 for 13 courses! Includes oyster with ikura starter, several onigiri (scallop with yuzu, salmon with foie gras and wagyu otoro uni were a few favorites), and ends with an otoro hand roll and delicious sesame dessert. Sam is the best sushi chef! Very friendly and easy to get a table. Highly recommend in midtown!
This is my second time here and it’s become my new favorite omakase spot in Midtown. I really love the flavor combinations here and the value is insane. We got the 17 course omakase which included Hokkaido uni in 3 separate courses. Chef Vincent was fantastic and very friendly. Will definitely be back again!
I’ve been to omakase a few times and this was absolutely the best I’ve had. I came yesterday and was so good I had to come back again. Highly recommended!! Chef Vincent was the best both times!
Every bite was a masterclass—super fresh, expertly prepared, and beautifully plated. The chef’s precision and pacing made the whole experience feel special. Service was warm, attentive, and never intrusive. Atmosphere was calm and elevated without feeling stuffy. Easily one of the best omakase spots in Midtown.
Awesome omakase experience. We did the 17 course option with no regrets. Every dish was fresh and flavorful. The service was wonderful and the atmosphere was intimate but lively. Highly recommend and can’t wait to go back.
If you're on the hunt for an exceptional omakase experience in NYC without the months-long reservation scramble, Omakase Osukaa in Midtown East is the place to be! A friend and I dined in for their 17-course omakase, and from start to finish, it was an absolute treat. The Ambiance: Tucked away in Midtown, Osukaa has that perfect blend of intimate and welcoming. The counter seating gives you a front-row view of the chef’s meticulous craftsmanship, and the cozy setting makes it feel like a hidden treasure. Whether you’re an omakase veteran or new to the experience, the chefs and staff make you feel right at home. The Experience & Service: The service was impeccable—warm, attentive, and perfectly paced. The chef took time to explain each piece, its origin, and the inspiration behind the flavors. The balance of precision and hospitality here is top-notch, making the experience feel both luxurious and personal. The Sushi – 17 Courses of Pure Bliss: Some standout bites: Madai (Sea Bream) with lime zest, salt and lemon juice - This was the first nigiri we had, it was so vibrant and refreshing, the lime zest really brings out the flavor of the sea bream, it was so bright and light, an excellent first nigiri! Hokkaido Sea Scallop with Yuzu Jelly - Oh my goodness, the yuzu jelly paired with the scallops was so light and citrusy, it was so good! The jelly made the scallop flavor pop in your mouth! I need to know how to make that yuzu jelly, it was very delicious!! King Salmon with chopped onion and foie gras - Just melt in your mouth deliciousness; the premium cut of salmon paired with the seared foie gras with some chopped onion the cut down the richness of the overall bite, what an amazing combo! Toro Tartare with foie gras toast - Whoa, just whoa, what a bite, this toast was so delicious! I wish I ordered more of this! A5 Wagyu seared with scallop, uni, and caviar - I love that they have A5 wagyu, this was essentially the last bite before dessert, it was so decadent and rich, I absolutely loved that this was the end before our dessert! Homemade Black Sesame Pudding - Wow, this dessert was a great end to our course. It was light, not overly sweet, just sweet enough! Extras & Drinks: Before our dessert, we had the option to purchase additional add-ons, this includes everything we just had along with many more handroll options which we just had to get. We got an additional king salmon with foie gras handroll, hokkaido scallop with yuzu jelly handroll, and eel and foie gras handroll. And these handrolls were pretty huge, definitely worth it if you can eat a lot like my friend and I did. Add-ons range from roughly $10-20 per piece depending what you want, they are worth getting if you're still hungry for more! For drinks, for now it's BYOB, until they get their license to sell sake which should be very soon. My friend brought a bottle of Dassai Blue 35, which paired really well with some of our courses! I was told that they will be getting an amazing selection of sake soon, so be on the lookout for those! Final Thoughts: At $109 per person, the 17-course omakase at Osukaa is a steal compared to some of NYC’s more hyped-up spots. The quality, presentation, and overall experience are absolutely worth it. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or just treating yourself, this is a must-visit for any sushi lover. 💯 Would I return? Absolutely. Next time, I will try different add-ons and also try the sake there with my experience. 🔥 Pro Tips: If you have any allergies, they'll be sure to accommodate you! If you don't like a specific fish, the chef will listen to you and try to adapt your experience! Make sure to make a reservation and list your allergies so the people know advance of your allergies or aversions! They do offer a 13 course version for dinner but in my opinion, you will get better cuts and pieces for the price of the 17 course! Oh and if you work around the area, they do have a lunch 10 course for $48 from 12-2PM Monday-Saturday, but you have the option to upgrade to 13 or 17 course!
New omakase spot with an incredible value lunch deal. $48 for 10 pieces in under 30 minutes. These days, it’s hard to get excited about a new omakase opening in NYC. Still, when I see a deal this affordable, I get curious. Most omakase I’ve had under $60 have been underwhelming, so I had some doubts coming in. Despite the price, it didn’t feel like an omakase stripped down to the basics. Rather, it was just a concise version of a mid-premium omakase. All the pieces I tried were either 3 or 4s (out of 5), though there were mostly 3s. Still, it really exceeded my expectations, and was surprised to see that they kept all the premium pieces like chutoro, wagyu, foie gras, and king salmon with uni and caviar. The only real miss was the shari (rice). The chefs behind the counter seemed relatively inexperienced. Perhaps 2 to 3 years of experience at a neighborhood sushi spot. In several pieces, the rice was either off in proportion or slightly inconsistent in density. Traditional omakase is built on a chef’s ability to craft a course around quality and availability, but that kind of curation comes at a cost. In the U.S., where experience and expertise are expensive, this kind of accessible omakase can’t be about artistry. Instead, it’s about value, and this place gets it right. As long as the fish quality is solid and clearly better than a standard neighborhood sushi combo, that’s more than enough at this price point.
Chef Takeshi and James held it down for a transcendent omakase experience. There’s something to be sad about experiencing the actual craft and selection from an artisan. Sometimes you just gotta treat yourself and take it slow to appreciate the finer things in life. The service was very attentive and I love the way. This was a fantastic first introduction to Omakase. Our chef was Oscar and he took great care to present every part of the meal with thoughtfulness and style. We were so impressed with the flavor combinations and the suggested sake pairing. The service was very attentive and made us feel welcome and at ease. The host answered our questions and explained this is a more casual omakase experience with novel flavor profiles. It’s a wonderful transition from traditional sushi to some more experimental variations. This was a great way to end our stay in New York and highlight experience during our stay. Thank you to the team for such a great evening! Highly recommend for a thoughtfully curated date night sushi.

John was the chef . He did amazing job , it was my first time omakase. I enjoyed all the moments: fish so fresh and excellent quality , and with excellent sauce . Another customer complained but it was exaggerated from her . Please respect the chef who deserves it and omakase is all about trusting the chef. Hospitality people deserve more respect .
My friends and I did the lunch Omakase and it was amazing. We were in a hurry to catch a taxi and head to the airport but we couldn't leave NYC without having some sushi. This place hit the spot and the service was top notch. They accommodated the fact we didnt have much time.
Fish was very fresh but some of the accoutrements were a bit overpowering and took away from the essence of the fish. We ordered one extra piece each at the end but they forgot and we ended up sitting for an extra half hour when they asked if we were ready to leave and we told them we hadn’t received our orders yet. Overall food was good though and staff were kind. I would give it another shot as it is affordable omakase that is fresh in an area without many other such options.
Fish was 4.7, unfortunately rice was a 1.9/5. Rice was very mushy, and I feel like should be the integral part of service. Excellent deal overall due to fish quality, however rice was extremely mushy and subpar. I suspect that there’s a bit too much volume of customers at different seating times (this is what happened to the two of us), to pay attention to rice cooking times. Rice is edible, but I would say near unacceptable for omakase standards. Honest review!

I had the 13 piece omakase for lunch. The chefs and staff are Chinese vs Japanese and the sushi definitely shows this. There is a lack of subtlety and balance to each of the pieces. The composition was sloppy and it's definitely a "let's throw toro, truffles, caviar together!" type of approach. A lot of high end ingredients that look good for IG or Tiktok but the flavors are just slightly off. For example, some of the pieces that used lime zest were too citrusy and others that used additional salt were too salty. The overuse of the torch was a major tip off that the flavors were not going to be up to par. The rice was under seasoned. The knife work was good and the chefs made good delicate cuts. The progression of the pieces was solid, starting very mild and growing in flavor. Overall service was good as well. Price is reasonable. But with so many options in NYC, if price is not the major deciding factor, I would recommend elsewhere.
I don’t usually leave restaurant reviews, but this experience felt educational enough to document. For context, I eat sushi 2–3 times a week, mostly at places run by Japanese chefs. This was my first visit here, and I went with the 17-piece option. Service was prompt and the server was friendly, credit where it’s due. Things went sideways early with the chawanmushi. Call me a snob, but I’ve never seen chawanmushi that looked like a kitchen sponge. Either the egg mixture wasn’t strained or it was steamed at too high a temperature, both are signs of a lack of attention to detail. The sushi itself was adequate. Seabream and hotate with light citrus juice/zest were the highlights - clean, refreshing, and allowed the fish to shine. Unfortunately, much of the nigiri leaned heavily on toppings and seasonings (foie gras on salmon, caviar on uni on wagyu, etc.) that completely overwhelmed the fish. I prefer sushi where the fish is the star, not the garnish trying to win an Oscar (coincidentally, the name of the restaurant in Japanese). It quickly became clear that the people behind the counter function more like an assembly line workers than trained sushi chefs. Anything more than asking to repeat the name of the fish/neta was met with blank stares. The real breaking point came with the uni. I was told it was from Hokkaido, Japan. The box sticker, written in Japanese, clearly said ロシア産 (harvested in Russia). After calmly pointing this out, I was treated to an impressive sequence: denial, Google Lens verification, geopolitical reinterpretation of Sakhalin being a territory under dispute, outrageous claim that uni from Russia is better quality due to less water pollution, and finally the claim that only the box was made in Russia while the content is from Hokkaido (seriously??). At that point, I was apparently expected to suspend both disbelief and basic literacy. A subsequent tangent about Oma tuna being “farmed” sealed the deal. (It isn’t. And yes, I fact checked it and presented the evidence to the person who made the claim.) Honest mistakes happen. Making things up when called out does not inspire confidence. Needless to say, I won’t be back.
(I used to love Asuka Midtown when they first opened – the quality was excellent, the dishes felt fresh and special, and it quickly became one of my favorite spots. Unfortunately, over time the experience has changed a lot. The food now feels very basic, the fish doesn’t taste fresh or flavorful anymore, and overall the quality has gone down. It’s really disappointing to see a place that started off so strong lose what made it great in the beginning. I truly hope they can bring back the standard they once had.) Absolutely the Best Omakase Experience! I’ve been to many omakase restaurants over the years, but Osukaa truly stands out as the best experience I’ve ever had. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere is warm, intimate, and welcoming. The chefs are incredibly skilled and passionate, and you can feel the dedication in every dish they create. Each course was a masterpiece—perfectly balanced flavors, the freshest fish, and an attention to detail that took the entire meal to another level. Every bite surprised me in the best way possible. The pacing of the dinner was flawless, and the chef took time to explain each piece, making the experience feel even more personal. If you’re a true omakase lover, Osukaa is an absolute must. It’s not just a meal—it’s a work of art. I can’t wait to come back!
