Opinions de Overstory New York
One of my favorite cocktail experiences in NYC so far. I had 3 cocktails and they were all so beautifully balanced. Nothing was sweet, it was just subtle fruit notes which honestly is the ideal type of cocktail because you dont want it to over power the spirit. It was a really foggy day so I didnt get to quite see the amazing views but its a beautiful bar with great service. Highly recommend this spot if youre looking for swanky vibes, cool aesthetic and just really good cocktails. I got there a few minutes after opening and was able to squeeze in as 1 person. Id recommend reservations tho. The placed filled up quick and when I left there were people waiting
The best specialty cocktail bar in NYC hands down! Ordered their SDG, in the clouds, terroir old fashioned and maravilla cocktails. Courtney and Luis were gracious bartenders. The views, the music and the vibe are everything you’d want from a place. Grateful to have gotten the chance to visit.
Overstory is a great bar with good service and views you won't soon forget! It is not the cheapest bar in Manhattan by a longshot, but goes without saying you are paying for the unbelievable views of lower Manhattan, Brooklyn and the New York harbor from the 64th floor, which make it worth it in my opinion. Overstory has a great team and will do a wonderful job taking care of you on your visit.
My friend and I had a wonderful time here. We absolutely loved their signature cocktails and ended up trying four each. Every drink we ordered was excellent — the Margarita, Pink Tuxedo, S.D.G, Maravilla, and Terroir Old Fashioned were all fantastic. Our favorite was the Maravilla. Highly recommend this place for great cocktails and a great atmosphere!
Visited Overstory this past weekend with a group of four. We didn’t have a reservation and only waited about 45 minutes on a busy weekend night, which wasn’t bad at all. Once inside, the views were absolutely stunning—some of the best in the city! Our bartender, Rachel, was fantastic. She made excellent drinks and really added to the experience with her energy and service. Even with a light rain, we were still able to enjoy the outdoor deck, which made the night even more memorable. Highly recommend Overstory for the views, the cocktails, and the atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back!
I have been to Overstory at least 10 times in the last year. There is simply nothing to compare it to. While this review is 5 stars but there are definitely some notes here. Let’s start with the bar itself. Overstory is located in 70 pine street which is home to two other sister establishments, Crown Shy and SAGA. Both of which are 1 and 2 Michelin star establishments respectively. Overstory is definitely on the more approachable side of things. While there is no dress code you will want to take pictures with the view so most people are dressed quite nicely. The ambiance is quiet, relaxed and conversational. If you come on a weekend and during peak hours the wait can be diabolically long because they keep a low capacity which I appreciate. It never truly feels crowded. My advice is to come right when they open or an hour and a half before they close. I have never had to wait during those times. The location is quite out of the way for tourists so the clientele feels more local and usually people truly trying to relax. Fairly unique for a flagship Manhattan establishment. The cocktail program is stellar with bartenders who are incredibly in tune with their ingredients and preparation methods. As a professional bartender myself, I can say the expertise of the staff here is palpable. The signature cocktails are for the most part fantastic and the staff can definitely help direct you towards the ones you will enjoy the most. If you have questions about ingredients or liquors, they have the answers. The menu also includes great n/a cocktails which I appreciate. Although I do wish there were a few more n/a options. At a bar of this caliber I would expect to see an n/a beer other than athletic brewing. There are many other delicious beer options that reflect a more thoughtful and curated selection. Depending on the visit I also order off menu classic cocktails because the bartenders here are not playing around. They know how to make fantastic drinks and I trust them with my life. Special mention to Atticus, he has provided my guests and I with fantastic drinks for my past 3 visits. The prices here are high but completely justified. Cocktails range from $25-35 and include unique tastes and beautiful presentations. This is not a tourist trap, simply a bar of such prestige that those prices are expected. There is no other bar at that price point that offers what Overstory does. Other establishments either underperform on cocktail quality, service, experience or all of those things combined. Overstory delivers on each of those points exceptionally well. Recently, I have noticed the service slipping slightly. This is something no one would notice if they visited just once but having been so many times it becomes visible. Upon entering the indoor bar area and sitting, I would hope each guest would be greeted promptly. On the past two occasions it took several minutes to make contact with a server. I understand that table service might end at a certain time of evening but a simple note to “order with the bartender” upon entering would prevent any confusion or excess waiting by guests. Also I feel that there used to be more guidance given to guests on the continuity of service. When we are first seated, explaining that we can leave our bags at our table while going outside would make new guests feel more familiar and comfortable. I feel comfortable doing this but other people might drag their bags around and dampen their own experience. This is definitely something that used to be communicated but I haven’t heard it recently. Overstory now collects a payment method before you go up the elevator and instituted a one drink per person minimum. I can see how this became necessary but it does unfortunately roughen up the entry experience. A final note is that while the views are impeccable and the drinks are fantastic, the interior decor is beginning to feel dated. It’s not quite out of style but it’s not quite classic enough to survive year after year.
I recently visited Overstay, and it turned out to be an incredible find. Even as a walk-in, we were lucky enough to get seated such a great surprise for a place this popular. The drinks were creative and memorable. I tried the Pink Tuxedo and an Old Fashioned, and both were outstanding beautifully balanced and packed with flavor. For bites, we had hummus and a grilled cheese sandwich, which paired perfectly with the cocktails. The atmosphere was on point: stylish, lively, yet comfortable enough to really enjoy the evening. Everything from the drinks to the small plates felt thoughtfully put together. Overstay is definitely the kind of bar that makes you want to come back.
The views are amazing, the cocktails are good but not top notch. The best time to come is sunset time and usually there is a queue so I recommend coming 30-60 mins in advance. This will allow you to enjoy the sunset followed by the view on New York at night. They have minimum one cocktail per person policy and ask you for a credit card at the entrance. You then need to give them your last name every time you order which is really not super convenient from the one hand, but allows you to easily move around the place on another. They have two storeys and both closed space as well as the open terrace. The views are almost 360 degrees and are just outstanding. The velvet green cocktail was just okay - had some aftertaste and was a bit sour. Fragolina was probably the nicest one I’ve tried - with a very simple yet tasty flavour. The only downside was that it was a bit bitter. S.D.G. tasted a bit sour/fermented and even though I love mezcal, I was not a big fan of the cocktail itself. Some staff members were slightly haughty. Overall I recommend this place if you are in New York - the views compensate for everything that is not perfect. I am usually not a huge atmosphere advocate and usually come to bars and restaurants for food and drinks but this is one of the cases when the atmosphere really boosts the experience
This was a great experience and choice for rooftop bar. The wait was short and greeted professionally and escorted to rooftop with friendly server. The view was breathtaking and different experience while having a drink and just chatting up. We had the New York New York and espresso Martini then the Terrior old fashion and Jasmine sour.
Overstory offers arguably the best rooftop views in NYC. With a full 360 rooftop offering breathtaking unobstructed views of Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Jersey, exceptional service and a lively ambience, Overstory is easily one of the best rooftop restaurants you'll find in NYC. They offer great small plates and cocktails in an upbeat but relaxed atmosphere, making it great for meeting up with friends or a romantic interest after work. There is indoor seating available, as well as outdoor seating on the wraparound terrace.
Everything was incredible in our group. Great server, delicious drinks all around. Food was amazing but pricey. But for the view, 100% worth it. Had an amazing time. Waited about 20 minutes but it is a Sunday evening with no reservation. Definitely make a reservation during sunset any day of the week. Unbelievable
Came here for my birthday this year and last year. Will probably go back next year and the year after. Just absolutely an amazing spot for elevated bar snacks, insanely delicious cocktails, and just an experience that will impress anyone. The space makes you feel good, the simplicity of the bar enhances the insane Manhattan views and when I went it was an all lady bartender team that was obviously amazing. Did I mention the team wears pastel pink suits? Unbelievably beautiful. If you haven’t been here yet, you better have it at the top of your list.
All of the wait staff and interactions with the employees were professional and friendly. From the host downstairs, to the server who had great drink recommendations we were all smiles! The view was incredible and we were there at sunset which was stunning. There is a 25$ minimum purchase price per person. The drinks were expensive but it was a high end bar so it was to be expected and not super unreasonable. The drinks themselves are well thought out and delicious. I would recommend to go an hour before sunset and to dress up! This is a high end spot and I felt underdressed with a tank top and skirt. I did not get any food but there are some available and it looked amazing! Overall, I highly recommend going. They do not take reservations for small parties but we went on a Sunday and only waited maybe 5 minutes in the lobby.
Overstory — cocktails with a view We came as a group of six — perfect for a special night out. The panoramic views of Manhattan are breathtaking, the interior is stylish, and the atmosphere feels intimate yet vibrant. We tried many cocktails, and everything was spot on. I especially want to highlight the non-alcoholic ones — I tried all of them. Very sweet, but creative and surprisingly fun. Service was attentive, and reservations are a must. A true sky-high experience — in every sense.
Only came here for the rooftop bar. What magic! The mixologists gave me some of the best refreshing cocktails I've ever had, and it was a hot NY day! Every person on staff is wonderful too!! They go out of their way to make you feel welcome! The views are also amazing! And it's just a fantastic way to quietly reflect as you stand over the city, while the sun sets with a million dollar cocktail in your hand! 🍸🍹🌇💯
Amazing views. Great service. Good cocktails. OK food. The food was fine but really needed a menu item that adds acid or bitterness, like salads. All the items were heavy.
Expectations vs. reality: this is definitely a place to save for warmer days when the terrace is open. In the gloomy winter season, it feels more like a regular indoor space with very limited seating, line to get inside and restricted access to the city view, while drinks are quite pricey ($29+). That said, the bartenders are attentive 🥂🍸 they check in, ask for feedback, and are happy to remake a drink if it’s not to your taste.
The views are unbeatable, the atmosphere is gorgeous and the service is top notch. You will truly feel on top of the world. The drinks are average. You are definitely paying for the view but it’s worth it, plan for 1 drink here and then go enjoy world class cocktails at The Dead Rabbit for the same price. (This review is for drinks only; we didn’t try any the food).
Great views! Drinks were good. We ordered food but after 40 minutes we canceled it because we had a reservation to get to. Our drinks were $26 each but if you go to the top of any of these observation decks you're going to pay a lot more to go to the top and still pay more than average for drinks. I think we might go back. Next time after dark!
