The hostess was great. Service was great. A little bit of a wait but hey it was a Friday night. Expect it. Had a dinner for 1 and the food did not disappoint. The Negroni was spot on. The grills squid with peppers as stuffing. Delicious. The carbonara was also just the right portion.

Once in a lifetime Valentines day dinner. I said it 100 times, i ll say it again the Ox tail starter is a true dream marvel of a meat dish. Pulled ox tail toped off with a perfect piece of grilled bone marrow and a beautiful bruschet chared on open fire. If there was ever a moment my date was jealous it was when I had my first bite of this spectacle. Service was best in NY, for a moment I forgot that we are in the cold streets of NY and was transported to a restaurant with a relaxed candle lit ambiance in rural Italy. I fully recommend if you are looking for romantic and relaxed atmosphere and elevated comfort food with client centered service.

We celebrated our first wedding anniversary at Peasant and had such a wonderful experience. Everything from the moment we arrived until the end of our meal was truly exceptional. Our server, Eusaf (I hope I’m spelling that correctly), delivered what I can only describe as five-star Michelin-level service. He was attentive, warm, and incredibly knowledgeable, making the evening feel extra special. We were also so grateful to the host, Ianna, who went above and beyond to make sure we were well accommodated. Her kindness and attention to detail really stood out. The food was exemplary, beautifully prepared and absolutely delicious, and the ambience was warm, intimate, and perfect for celebrating such a meaningful occasion. Thank you to the entire team at Peasant for making our first wedding anniversary so memorable. We will definitely be back.

ORDER THE SPICY RIGATONI!! Came here for an engagement party in the wine cellar under the restaurant. Unfortunately they don’t have good hearters and it was 15 degrees outside so we were a bit freezing near the door, but other than that the space is truly incredible. So nicely decorated and great vibes. Service was phenomenal. Food was decent but one dish was spectacular - the spicy rigatoni was the best I’ve ever had. Far better than Carbone’s. Idk what they did with that but they need to be pumping that dish out cause it is absolutely incredible. I probably wouldn’t have left a review but just needed the world to know.

We had an excellent experience at Peasant on a Monday evening. Our reservation was a little later at 8pm so it was a little quieter but great vibes nonetheless. Super cozy and beautiful restaurant with amazing service from everyone, and I think the man who is the owner, is a very friendly man. We got the scallops and octopus to start and both were some of the most delicious things we had ever eaten. The scallops have a citrusy zing and the octopus has a little spice to it which is lovely-both come with delicious bread. For mains we got the rigatoni and suckling pig, and both are incredible as well. The rigatoni alla vodka has a nice balance of tomato and creaminess, and the pig is super tender and rich without making you feel sick-the perfect balance. We got the torta carpese to share and it was also very tasty. Great drinks too! Will definitely be back here :)

Recommend the roselle, a short rib and mushroom pasta dish. Good service with sharing tastes of wine to find the right glass. Sides are seasonal. We had the squash which was fantastic.

From the moment you walk in to the moment you step out, everything is a wonderful experience. The team, the food, and the ambiance will have you planning your next visit. The only “complaint”, and that’s an exaggeration, was that the calamari al forno wasn’t our fave. It wasn’t bad but the other plates just blew it out of the water The honey nut squash was heavenly and velvety The specials of oxtail and bone marrow were delectable and the rabbit pasta with truffle had my tastebuds dancing

Came here for a farewell dinner and had a great experience from start to finish. Food was great, especially with the large format meats. Sommelier provides good recommendations for wines. Service is top notch and you feel well taken care of. Overall a strong recommendation for group dinners!

Peasant is one of those rare restaurants that reminds you how magical simplicity can be when every detail is done right. From start to finish, the experience feels both rustic and elevated. The hamachi crudo sets the tone beautifully: impossibly fresh fish, sliced just right, kissed with citrus and a hint of heat that makes every bite bright and refreshing. It’s elegant but unpretentious. Then there’s the bone marrow toast, which might just be the ultimate indulgence. The marrow is rich, silky, and deeply savory, melting into the crisp toast in the most satisfying way. And of course, the rigatoni with spicy vodka sauce is nothing short of incredible (definitely challenges Carbones). The pasta itself is tender and perfectly chewy, holding onto the sauce the way only truly great pasta can. The vodka sauce walks that fine line between creamy and fiery. Peasant doesn’t just serve excellent food; it offers an experience that feels deeply satisfying and genuine. Every dish tells a story of craft and care, and every bite makes you want to come back for more. Special shout out to our waiter Derek who was incredibly helpful and attentive throughout our entire dinner. Can’t wait to come back!

We celebrated our wedding anniversary at Peasant, and it couldn’t have been more special. From the moment we arrived, there was a thoughtful card waiting on our table congratulating us. Such a lovely personal touch. We started with Di Palo’s burrata and prosciutto - creamy, fresh, and absolutely delicious. For the main course, we ordered the branzino and the bone-in strip, both cooked to perfection and full of rich, deep flavor. Every dish felt authentic and beautifully prepared. The cozy atmosphere, warm service, and exceptional food made the evening unforgettable. Peasant is truly a gem for anyone who appreciates genuine Italian cuisine with heart. Special thanks to Irakli for the warm welcome and hospitality, he made us feel truly celebrated.

Peasant is an absolute gem in the city. The rustic atmosphere and open-fire cooking create an authentic, cozy vibe that’s perfect for a night out. Every dish feels thoughtfully prepared — rich, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The service is warm and attentive without being overbearing. A must-visit for anyone who loves food done right.

Candle lit dining room filled with the smells of delicious food and the wood fired oven. We had a 6pm reservation when we arrived the restaurant was mostly empty but filled up quickly with very few if any empty tables. Food highlights were the short rib pasta and branzino.

Just such a pleasant place to have a good meal. We were looking for a spot to unwind and get to know friends of friends after an art pop-up nearby in Soho. We saw a comfortable looking table on the street with our name on it. After starting with inventive cocktails, we enjoyed the homemade pastas and other delicacies. The waitstaff was your typical young, affected-looking types who I'm sure are going to auditions or writing during their days before coming to work...

Loved this dinner. Sat outside on Elizabeth street on a Friday night. Wood fired calamari with sauerkraut was absolutely perfect. Really enjoyed the Rosette — ribs and corn pasta. Would be keen to try to octopus next. Cocktails were mediocre, tho. Watery? Not that interesting? Would order wine next time instead. Jokes on me for getting a limoncello pina colada, but it is on their menu so who’s to blame. Will be back!! Will be bringing my mom here.

We have been coming to this icon since it opened in 1999. If I told you some of the high profile people I have run into here, you would not even believe me. This gem has been touted continuously as the place where chefs go to eat. The taste bud orgasm goes to an entirely different dimension at Peasant. I have to warn you that you might experience feelings and sensations you didn’t even know you were capable of here. Our family has enjoyed everything from dinners for two to renting out the entire place for milestone birthdays. Chef Marc Forgione has expanded the legacy left by Chef Frank DiCarlo. You need to go and see for yourself what it’s like to be treated not only as family, but with care and detail often only reserved for VIPs. I don’t even know where to begin in recommending any particular dish over another. You are going to have to go multiple times and explore the entire menu for yourself. Thank you Cara Forgione and team for setting the bar to new heights. God Bless America! God Bless Blue & Gold! Remember Everyone Deployed Everyday!

A true hidden gem in New York. This place gives off the coziest, most inviting nighttime vibes — the kind that makes you want to sip good wine and enjoy amazing food. Super stylish atmosphere, and the staff was incredibly attentive. The food was spectacular, with plenty of variety to choose from. We’ll definitely be coming back. Highly recommended!

Quick visit to NYC, no resy, went early and sat at the bar. So glad we did. The bartender was lovely, she was knowledgeable about all things behind the bar and the menu as well. Giving insight on what to order. Salad, I could not stop eating. The pasta was chewy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. Pasta is made in-house. I would eat everything again and be very happy. Tip: It's a bit dark, so prepare for dim lighting. And don't forget to have a salad and pasta!

Food was overall good, I actually really enjoyed the suckling pig and the octopus. Steak was good as well but pricy. Pastas were just ok.

We were one of five or six birthday parties that night, as we kept on hearing the Happy Birthday song from various corners of the restaurant. So, very good for groups. Known for their fire roasted meats, we found the roasts to be good but not amazing. We did, however, love the pastas. The Carbonara was funky in the best way, and the bucatini was well balanced between spicy and acidic. Both cooked to perfect al dente. Inside, it's is very cozy, as you're surrounded by real candles. It's got a tavern by pub but fancy vibe. I really love the dim, loud atmosphere. I wish the service was a bit more attentive, as it was impossible to get water refills.

The food overall was good, especially the pasta—it was flavorful and definitely the highlight of the meal. The calamari was good. The zucchini carpaccio, however, wasn’t really to my taste; I found it a bit underwhelming compared to the other dishes. Still, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the service was attentive. I’d go back again.

I really wanted to love this place since I'm local and pass it quite frequently but it took me forever to get around to going. The food and wine were excellent - special shout-out to the sommelier for recommending a brilliant off-list bottle of Arneis. My biggest issue of our experience came at the very beginning when we arrived. There were two hostesses at the entrance; after a short wait (despite being right on time for our 5:15 reservation), we were brought into the restaurant by a third person. She led us to a communal table, which I was shocked a place this nice even had, although the restaurant was only about 10% full and there were plenty of other 4-person tables available. I asked if we could have a private table. She ran back to the hostess stand to check, kept us awkwardly waiting on the restaurant floor for a few minutes. We were then offered another table, thankfully that could only seat 4 people, close to the bar but were told they needed it back by 7:15. Why did they need that one back by a certain time but not the original bizarre communal table they were going to put us at? It felt very off-putting and started our evening out on a sour note. The rest of the interactions felt strained afterwards, like everyone was being nice to us through gritted teeth. For the record, the communal table ended up getting another party seated during our meal and we absolutely would've been so cramped had we stayed there. I wouldn't not recommend this place for those looking for a nice pasta dish and great selection of Italian wine but it definitely would not be my first choice.

Overall food was okay. The portions were rather small for the price and most of the dishes we got were under-seasoned. The wine was the best part of the meal. From the beans to the pasta everything needed a little more salt. Service was a little slow, however the atmosphere of these restaurant was nice both in and outside.

I'm super disappointed to write this review because I loved this restaurant and basically anything by Marc Forgione, but Valentine's evening at Peasant was nothing short of a disaster. We arrived for a 9:45 pm reservation (so late but I insisted on dining here for VDay) and we could barely get in the door the host stand was so backed up. Took them 15 minutes to seat us and when they did, we were seated in the cellar - not the main dining room. It was so freezing down there that I, like most of the other women in the room, had to wear my winter coat the entire meal. Service was incredibly kind and gracious but beyond overwhelmed. We ordered appetizers, primo (pasta) and secondi (entree dishes). It took nearly 20 minutes for the first dish to arrive and it wasn't even anything we ordered. It was a pasta dish that I think we realized later, belonged to the table next to us. When they took it away the table next to us said "it's been a disaster like this all night." Ten minutes later our appetizers finally arrived. The Ceasar was great but the octopus was very tiny and thin and overcharred. We then waited another 30 minutes for the pasta to arrive. As we waited, we overheard the other tables around us all talking to one another also complaining in frustration about how terrible the evening was- being disappointed in how long everything was taking (one table said they'd been there since 8pm!), having so many errors in their orders, and being seated in the cold cellar. By the time our pastas arrived it was 11:15 pm- an hour and a half after our reservation and we still hadn't received our entrees (we ordered everything within 5 minutes of sitting down). One of the pastas was not warm, the other was very good. We were so frustrated and exhausted by the time the pastas arrived that we just asked our server to put the entrees directly into boxes so we could take them home (we prepaid for the prix fixe so we couldn't cancel the order). This dinner was not at all cheap, so it's a real shame that we didn't get to enjoy it. Branzino isn't exactly the same experience after sitting in a box in the fridge overnight. The service team did the best they could - comped a round of drinks (we bought the first round at the insanely crowded upstairs bar while waiting for our table to be ready) but it was ultimately just a really poor decision to put profits over guest experience by over-seating on Valentines Day. As a restaurant publicist, I know that this decision was one that will come at the expense of the restaurant and chef's reputation and will not be worth the profit in the end.

The food was good, but the service — especially from the sommelier — was disappointing. The restaurant wasn’t even full, yet it took over 15 minutes just to get our first round of cocktails, which already set the tone. Sensing the delay, we asked to order a bottle of wine as soon as our 1st round of drinks arrived. Even then, it took another 15 minutes for the sommelier to come over. After we selected the bottle, there was yet another long 20 minutes wait — all of our food had already been served, and we were still asking where our wine was. When the sommelier finally returned, he presented the bottle but did not open it for us to taste at the table, which is standard practice. Instead, he walked away with the unopened bottle and returned about 10 minutes later with a decanter filled with wine— and the original bottle was nowhere to be seen. This was a very unusual and unprofessional approach to wine service. Overall, the poor coordination and lack of proper service, especially from the sommelier overshadowed what could have been a great dining experience. Unfortunately, we will not be returning.
