Avis sur Peasant New York
One of the best restaurants we went to during our trip to NYC. The atmosphere here is amazing, this is an ideal spot for a cosy date night by candlelight🕯The food was really good, too. My husband and I shared the Kale Caesar Salad as a starter and then went for one main dish each. I had the Parpadelle Bolognese, which was really tasty. Our waitress Kayla was super friendly too and made sure that we had a nice evening☺️ We were able to do a walk-in but it was very busy and we got the last table, so better to reserve in advance.
My fiancée and I went here yesterday to celebrate my birthday, and it was a truly amazing experience. The food was great, I could say it is distinct from the other restaurants - the depth of the flavor, the technique and the overall quality. I’ve been to Italy once and my palate longed for that authentic Italian taste. This restaurant comes close. The service was outstanding. The staff were attentive and they really know their menu. The manager was very helpful and invested time to connect with us. The atmosphere is also magnificent, it feels old, rustic, and romantically accented with candlelight. I highly recommend this place.
I had my birthday dinner at Peasant in the private wine bar room downstairs, and couldn't recommend it more! The room is so cozy, rustic, and inviting, with a perfect layout for dinner and drinks. We did cocktails for 30 minutes before sitting and the table was in a U-Shaped arrangement which was perfect and made for great conversation. It was decorated beautifully with candles as well. The food and service were amazing, and all the guests really loved the experience. They were also so easy to communicate with and responsive when planning the event. I'm so thankful to Peasant for making my birthday dinner so special!
Reviews should allow an extra "atmosphere" star just for Peasant. It's such a cohesive vibe from corner to corner. No surprise at all that the food was absolutely fantastic. Had the Chef's Negroni and Marc Forgione having Mezcal in his signature drink is ...didn't think I could dig the guy any more. The staff nailed every moment. This was the thing I was most looking forward to on this trip to NY and it did not disappoint. Thanks for a perfect evening.
We had a perfect night for our anniversary. We reserved the table at 7.30. We got there on time. The restaurant was full, luckily that we booked then waited for table around 15 minutes. The service was great, all the staff took care off us. All the dishes are delicious! Served hot and sizzling! Can't wait to come back for fresh bread with very delicious fresh butter!!
Walked in in a Satuday and didn’t have reservations but we got seats at the bar - perfect. We had appetizers and they were delicious. I will definitley come back to try something else next time! The space is eloquently rustic Italian. Beautiful details and the open fireplaces at the back!
Always order the specials. The suckling pig was perfect. The ambience is romantic. The service was perfect. I really enjoyed the special wine by the glass list.
Super impressed by this spot, really vibey ,candlelit, and intimate. I had one of the best steaks of my life here and the service was on point as well. Definitely recommend checking it out
Yes 5⭐️!! My experience was outstanding the waitress was patient, nice and caring, the food is another level about flavor and presentation the special bruschetta Blew my mind, the octopus 🐙 is unbelievable delicious… The atmosphere is cozy and intimate to have a romantic date100% recommended I’ll go back
Was treated to a legendary evening courtesy of Irakli, Mike, sommelier Safi, and the kind & attentive Avery. Not to mention, the mensch, Guy. Thanks team for elevating my, and my family's New York Thanksgiving week. Delicious poultry, ace apps, and 5 star service. Will be back again.
Best meal we have had in some time. Great service (somewhat rare in nyc now). We shared the octopus & gnocchi, both delicous. Hubby had scallops & I had the daily catch. Seriously good food, layers of flavor, smokey and just hit. Thanks to the staff at Peasant for a lovely birthday dinner.
The service is amazing here. The food was very late to come out because the Branzino we ordered had burned and they had to start over. They took one of the pasta dishes off the bill for the delay. I didn't love the atmosphere. The tables were very close together, and with so many people chatting at the same time, it was difficult to carry a conversation without raising my voice. The decor was nice, but could use some sound-absorbing materials. The food was excellent. The rosette was especially unique and delicious, with its char from the wood-fired oven. I'd certainly return to try their other dishes, although maybe I'll ask to sit near the windows away from the main area to avoid all the noise.
Dining at Peasant is always a fantastic experience. The Peasant team always creates a memorable experience from the service, the food, and the ambiance. The menu changes seasonally and on paper it may seem “simple.” The technique that goes into each dish that makes the food spectacular. One of the reasons Peasant is such a special place is because it is always consistent.
What can I say about this amazing restaurant? Everything and I mean EVERYTHING is amazing! Went for a playing with fire dinner and it was literal chefs kiss! Food was amazing, service is the best hands down, and the atmosphere is a vibe in and of itself! If you’re in the city, add this to your must visit list immediately!
If you find yourself in the vibrant streets of NYC, an evening at Peasant is an absolute must. From the moment you step into the restaurant, you’re whisked away on a culinary journey like no other. Our dining party was enraptured from the get-go. The ambiance, service, and, above all, the food, were nothing short of exceptional—undoubtedly deserving of a perfect 10/10 rating. Allow me to recommend a few standout dishes that left an indelible mark on our palates. First, the stuffed wood-fired calamari—a true symphony of flavors, perfectly cooked to tender perfection with a delightful stuffing that elevates it to culinary bliss. Next, the wood-fired oysters—an absolute revelation. Each bite bursting with the smoky essence of the wood-fire, complemented by the natural brininess of the oysters. And then there’s the pièce de résistance—the short-rib pasta dinner. Tender, succulent short ribs paired with al dente pasta, bathed in a rich, velvety sauce and baked in the wood fired stove to perfection. Let me know what you think when you go!
The manager, sommelier and wait staff were all above the best! Friendly upscale atmosphere coupled with world class chef makes for a match made in culinary heaven. A dining out experience worth every penny.
5 stars for yummy Italian food, exceptional service and romantic and lovely atmosphere. The food here is so delicious. I was part of a private dining experience downstairs and it was unforgettable. The cocktails are superb and our group enjoyed a 5 star experience. Favorites: ricotta appetizer, steak, lobster rigatoni, apple crisp and brownie! Highly recommend, make reservations. Enjoy!
Lovely evening at Peasant! Very cozy vibes and great ambiance. Perfect for a chilly evening. Really great staff and fun wine list. Especially loved the apps and pastas.
The best place I ever eaten at! I recently dined at Peasant and it exceeded all expectations. The delicious food was a culinary delight, paired with a beautiful and romantic atmosphere that set the perfect mood. The staff, warm and friendly, paid meticulous attention to every detail, ensuring a memorable dining experience. Highly recommended for those seeking a culinary and romantic indulgence.
This restaurant was so special and unique. Food was cooked in a wood burning oven, which made the ambiance so cozy and food have a deep flavor. They had fun drinks and a very grand wine list! John our server and the manger were very knowledgeable and great with suggesting menu items! We ordered the short rib rosettes, wood fire oysters & the homemade fresh mozzarella (made from cheese curds) for appetizers. For dinner, my fiancé ordered the suckling pic (roasted rotisserie style in the wood burning oven) and I ordered the branzino!
Had been on the list for a while. Finally went for dinner with two girlfriends. What a gorgeous place, truly. Dimly lit, candles, dried flowers and pretty things everywhere. What a vibe. Warm and impressive. The food was great, as were the drinks. Got the bucatini carbonara, which was amazing. Forget what else only bc some time has lapsed since my visit. Excited to go back.
TLDR: AMAZING ambiance, fantastic food, and great service! Came here after seeing videos/pics of the wine bar they have downstairs. While we did not go to the wine bar (we will be going back for that), we did have a fantastic meal at their street-level restaurant. Ordered the oysters, ricotta bruschetta, bottle of wine, sweater weather specialty cocktail (deceivingly delicious), carbonara, lobster pasta (best dish we had), affogato, and bourbon maple dessert cocktail (second best thing). 10/10 would recommend - although it’s on the pricier side, the ambiance and food make it well worth it. One of my favorite dining experiences thus far in NYC!
Great food, drinks, and service. Pasta, squid with long hots, meat dishes are all amazing. Love the large format bottle pour selections they've added.
Came here for my birthday meal: the staff were incredibly warm and welcoming, we were treated at the door with a happy birthday and there was even a card waiting for me on the table which was a lovely touch. The food was incredible, we ordered everything to share and the appetisers and pastas were fantastic. We didn’t order anything off the grill menu, but only because we preferred the look of the other dishes, but if you like meat, you’ll love the grill! I ordered an affogato and we were also given a complimentary scoop of their olive oil ice cream, which were both delicious. Eating at Peasant was a wonderful experience and really good value for what you get. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for good food in Manhattan!
Beautiful interior. Warm and cozy. Great portion sizes. Lobster pasta: great flavor with a great proportion of both parts of the dish. Lobster was fresh and fleshy yet soft. Chocolate cake: rich chocolate flavor with the sweetness of the ice cream. Great combination. Alcoholic beverages are strong and each have a distinct taste. Will definitely return.
PHENOMENAL FOOD EXPERIENCE!! Ordered the wood fire oyster, Caesar salad, and the lobster fra diavolo. Everything was delicious, fresh and well made. The pasta was one of the best I’ve ever had. Great service and ambiance, loved the decor and large wooden table settings. I would come back in a heart beat, one of the best meals I’ve had in the city!
Solid 5/5!! Everything from the food, drinks, and ambiance were spot on. I was visiting NYC from Chicago this past weekend with my sister and cousins and Peasant ended up being one of our favorite dinners of the trip. We had a reservation that had to be rescheduled, but the team was able to lock us in for the same time the following night (even though it looked fully booked online), which we were so happy about! Huge shoutout to Cara!! Her hospitality was so generous and made the entire night even better. We were able to try a little bit of everything (+ more!), and every bite was amazing! We'll definitely be back and thank you!!
Amazing amazing amazing. Our entire experience from the moment we walked in the door and checked in with the hostesses to the moment we left was exceptional. Warm, inviting, cozy ambiance and friendly staff, delicious food, and impeccable service. The lobster spaghetti was a standout! Can’t wait to go back
Peasant was an excellent Thanksgiving experience. Attentive service, top notch food preparation. The whole roasted duck was presented magnificently in all it's whole glory to the table prior to its carving. The host and front of the house was everywhere, to ensure that all guests felt at home and welcome. Service was professional AND knowledgeable. The room and ambience were just as I remembered it from so many years ago - thoroughly warm and welcoming. Thank you for a great evening for me and my family.
My partner and I stumbled in here no reservation. We were tired, cold, and hungry (honestly I just really needed a bathroom) and left warm, fed, and happy. We were seated near the kitchen and had a small view into the magic (the chef cooks with a flame that is like a foot high it was crazy). Truthfully, my partner does not even like Italian food but he loved everything here. The whole restaurant has this intimate candle lit feeling I really liked. There was a small issue with my order but our server went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time Highly recommend!
Our experience at Peasant was perfect! We started with the hamachi crudo, and then for our mains we had the chili lobster with squid ink pasta (Delicious and tasty!) and the Rosette Pasta which was rich and full of flavor. We finished with the oven roasted strawberries aka mode which were the perfect way to finish off dinner. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere is dim lit and cozy for a change from the other be seen restaurants in NYC! Great work Forgione!
Amazing ambience with exposed brick, dim lights, and lots of character provided by the wood fired oven. Cozy and romantic. The staff is friendly and communicative, they gave good recommendations. The food is great, the oven gives the pizza crust a unique character. The portions are sized so each person can try a couple of things without eating too much, and they're perfect for two people to share. A major downside is that when it's busy, it gets extremely loud.
Delicious food and lovely atmosphere. Service was perfect too. Highly recommend the hamachi crudo and calamari to start. All of the pastas were delicious, particularly the rosette. Portions are a bit on the smaller side but still filling.
Was in the Bowery area looking for a nice place to eat dinner with a friend. Stumbled across Peasant and called in to make reservation. Unfortunately fully booked on a Tuesday evening but bar seating available (which is a good sign for a fully booked restaurant on a Tuesday). 15 minutes later I receive a call back from the restaurant and the lovely hostess advises a table has opened up after a cancellation and so we immediately grabbed the table. I’ve never had that happen where the restaurant calls you back and on top of that was humble and apologetic for calling without any notification. Already a ++ for service and making sure the customer comes first. Service - something you would expect at a Michelin rated restaurant but without the robotic nature. Everyone was so genuine and hospitable. The hostess our server and even the owners were so welcoming, checking in our table to make sure everything was ok. Definitely made the experience thet much more rewarding and fun. Food - so delicious and cooked to perfection didn’t take any pictures but started with the grilled octopus, followed by our mains (Rigatoni & Suckling Pig). WOW is all I can say. Full of flavor, octopus grilled perfectly with no chewy gaminess, pasta cooked perfectly al dente and sauce to match, and finally suckling pig - crisp tasty skin with juice moist meat. Amazing dishes. Drinks - tasty and delicious cocktails that are fairly priced. Mint Chocolate Espresso Martini is worth trying. Ambiance - loved the decor and theme with old skool church pews and candle lit room. Just a great vibe. Definitely looking forward to coming back. Thank you @Peasant Restaurant for an amazing evening
I stumbled across this place at the end of my shopping day in soho. Great decision . Staff was welcoming and pleasant . We dined in the lower part of the restaurant bc there was a private party taking place upstairs . The fact that they have that options is awesome. I wanted some pasta so I went with the smoked linguine with clams . My goodness it was so delicious. Every single bite and slurp was great! Eric our waiter was very kind and explained all the dishes we had questions for. I’ll def be returning !
I don't know where to start. The Maître d' was welcoming and seated us at an amazing table with a birds eye view of the dining room. Our waitress was polite and very knowledgeable about the menu. The food and presentation were superb. The steak was hands down the best I've ever tasted. Every so often, the Maitre D' would check up on the table and give little details on the dishes which I personally loved. The flour less chocolate cake was out of this world. As someone who also works in the same industry, I was blown away by the level of service. Amazing.
The hostess was great. Service was great. A little bit of a wait but hey it was a Friday night. Expect it. Had a dinner for 1 and the food did not disappoint. The Negroni was spot on. The grills squid with peppers as stuffing. Delicious. The carbonara was also just the right portion.
Once in a lifetime Valentines day dinner. I said it 100 times, i ll say it again the Ox tail starter is a true dream marvel of a meat dish. Pulled ox tail toped off with a perfect piece of grilled bone marrow and a beautiful bruschet chared on open fire. If there was ever a moment my date was jealous it was when I had my first bite of this spectacle. Service was best in NY, for a moment I forgot that we are in the cold streets of NY and was transported to a restaurant with a relaxed candle lit ambiance in rural Italy. I fully recommend if you are looking for romantic and relaxed atmosphere and elevated comfort food with client centered service.
We celebrated our first wedding anniversary at Peasant and had such a wonderful experience. Everything from the moment we arrived until the end of our meal was truly exceptional. Our server, Eusaf (I hope I’m spelling that correctly), delivered what I can only describe as five-star Michelin-level service. He was attentive, warm, and incredibly knowledgeable, making the evening feel extra special. We were also so grateful to the host, Ianna, who went above and beyond to make sure we were well accommodated. Her kindness and attention to detail really stood out. The food was exemplary, beautifully prepared and absolutely delicious, and the ambience was warm, intimate, and perfect for celebrating such a meaningful occasion. Thank you to the entire team at Peasant for making our first wedding anniversary so memorable. We will definitely be back.
ORDER THE SPICY RIGATONI!! Came here for an engagement party in the wine cellar under the restaurant. Unfortunately they don’t have good hearters and it was 15 degrees outside so we were a bit freezing near the door, but other than that the space is truly incredible. So nicely decorated and great vibes. Service was phenomenal. Food was decent but one dish was spectacular - the spicy rigatoni was the best I’ve ever had. Far better than Carbone’s. Idk what they did with that but they need to be pumping that dish out cause it is absolutely incredible. I probably wouldn’t have left a review but just needed the world to know.
We had an excellent experience at Peasant on a Monday evening. Our reservation was a little later at 8pm so it was a little quieter but great vibes nonetheless. Super cozy and beautiful restaurant with amazing service from everyone, and I think the man who is the owner, is a very friendly man. We got the scallops and octopus to start and both were some of the most delicious things we had ever eaten. The scallops have a citrusy zing and the octopus has a little spice to it which is lovely-both come with delicious bread. For mains we got the rigatoni and suckling pig, and both are incredible as well. The rigatoni alla vodka has a nice balance of tomato and creaminess, and the pig is super tender and rich without making you feel sick-the perfect balance. We got the torta carpese to share and it was also very tasty. Great drinks too! Will definitely be back here :)
From the moment you walk in to the moment you step out, everything is a wonderful experience. The team, the food, and the ambiance will have you planning your next visit. The only “complaint”, and that’s an exaggeration, was that the calamari al forno wasn’t our fave. It wasn’t bad but the other plates just blew it out of the water The honey nut squash was heavenly and velvety The specials of oxtail and bone marrow were delectable and the rabbit pasta with truffle had my tastebuds dancing
Came here for a farewell dinner and had a great experience from start to finish. Food was great, especially with the large format meats. Sommelier provides good recommendations for wines. Service is top notch and you feel well taken care of. Overall a strong recommendation for group dinners!
Peasant is one of those rare restaurants that reminds you how magical simplicity can be when every detail is done right. From start to finish, the experience feels both rustic and elevated. The hamachi crudo sets the tone beautifully: impossibly fresh fish, sliced just right, kissed with citrus and a hint of heat that makes every bite bright and refreshing. It’s elegant but unpretentious. Then there’s the bone marrow toast, which might just be the ultimate indulgence. The marrow is rich, silky, and deeply savory, melting into the crisp toast in the most satisfying way. And of course, the rigatoni with spicy vodka sauce is nothing short of incredible (definitely challenges Carbones). The pasta itself is tender and perfectly chewy, holding onto the sauce the way only truly great pasta can. The vodka sauce walks that fine line between creamy and fiery. Peasant doesn’t just serve excellent food; it offers an experience that feels deeply satisfying and genuine. Every dish tells a story of craft and care, and every bite makes you want to come back for more. Special shout out to our waiter Derek who was incredibly helpful and attentive throughout our entire dinner. Can’t wait to come back!
We celebrated our wedding anniversary at Peasant, and it couldn’t have been more special. From the moment we arrived, there was a thoughtful card waiting on our table congratulating us. Such a lovely personal touch. We started with Di Palo’s burrata and prosciutto - creamy, fresh, and absolutely delicious. For the main course, we ordered the branzino and the bone-in strip, both cooked to perfection and full of rich, deep flavor. Every dish felt authentic and beautifully prepared. The cozy atmosphere, warm service, and exceptional food made the evening unforgettable. Peasant is truly a gem for anyone who appreciates genuine Italian cuisine with heart. Special thanks to Irakli for the warm welcome and hospitality, he made us feel truly celebrated.
Peasant is an absolute gem in the city. The rustic atmosphere and open-fire cooking create an authentic, cozy vibe that’s perfect for a night out. Every dish feels thoughtfully prepared — rich, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The service is warm and attentive without being overbearing. A must-visit for anyone who loves food done right.
Just such a pleasant place to have a good meal. We were looking for a spot to unwind and get to know friends of friends after an art pop-up nearby in Soho. We saw a comfortable looking table on the street with our name on it. After starting with inventive cocktails, we enjoyed the homemade pastas and other delicacies. The waitstaff was your typical young, affected-looking types who I'm sure are going to auditions or writing during their days before coming to work...
Loved this dinner. Sat outside on Elizabeth street on a Friday night. Wood fired calamari with sauerkraut was absolutely perfect. Really enjoyed the Rosette — ribs and corn pasta. Would be keen to try to octopus next. Cocktails were mediocre, tho. Watery? Not that interesting? Would order wine next time instead. Jokes on me for getting a limoncello pina colada, but it is on their menu so who’s to blame. Will be back!! Will be bringing my mom here.
We have been coming to this icon since it opened in 1999. If I told you some of the high profile people I have run into here, you would not even believe me. This gem has been touted continuously as the place where chefs go to eat. The taste bud orgasm goes to an entirely different dimension at Peasant. I have to warn you that you might experience feelings and sensations you didn’t even know you were capable of here. Our family has enjoyed everything from dinners for two to renting out the entire place for milestone birthdays. Chef Marc Forgione has expanded the legacy left by Chef Frank DiCarlo. You need to go and see for yourself what it’s like to be treated not only as family, but with care and detail often only reserved for VIPs. I don’t even know where to begin in recommending any particular dish over another. You are going to have to go multiple times and explore the entire menu for yourself. Thank you Cara Forgione and team for setting the bar to new heights. God Bless America! God Bless Blue & Gold! Remember Everyone Deployed Everyday!
A true hidden gem in New York. This place gives off the coziest, most inviting nighttime vibes — the kind that makes you want to sip good wine and enjoy amazing food. Super stylish atmosphere, and the staff was incredibly attentive. The food was spectacular, with plenty of variety to choose from. We’ll definitely be coming back. Highly recommended!
Quick visit to NYC, no resy, went early and sat at the bar. So glad we did. The bartender was lovely, she was knowledgeable about all things behind the bar and the menu as well. Giving insight on what to order. Salad, I could not stop eating. The pasta was chewy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. Pasta is made in-house. I would eat everything again and be very happy. Tip: It's a bit dark, so prepare for dim lighting. And don't forget to have a salad and pasta!
Food was fine, nothing special (especially at that price point). Portions were a little on the small side. Restaurant was very loud, which I guess is the vibe, but just know what you're going in for. Service was fine but nothing special.
Cute nolita place. Went for a belated birthday celebration. Professional staff and friendly owner/manager. It was good but I wanted to like it more. All the dishes were well prepared. The starters were great. I had the “sunfed shrimp ravioli”, my favorite dish of the evening, light and delicious. The mains were less delicate. Flavors were a little heavy-handed. But I supposed that is where the name comes from, lol. Nice evening.
I went here for Restaurant Week, not knowing anything about the restaurant and all I can say is I hope they put the Cavatelli in meat sauce (pictured here) on the permanent menu. It was probably one of the most flavorful pasta sauces I have ever had and I’m already craving it again! I ordered a cocktail, I believe called Sweater Weather, with Mezcal and fresh carrot juice which sounded intriguing although I didn’t think it was anything special, because to me the different flavor profiles described were not all easily tasted. My main dish was the Skate, which I think would’ve been a delicious dish with a different type of fish. (They have it on their regular menu as the Daily Catch). The sauce was very good and unique, but the skate itself had tons of bones, making it uncomfortable to eat, and it didn’t seem to absorb the flavor of the sauce leaving the actual skate with a blander taste. I had the tiramisu affogato for dessert. I liked it as it was, but they upsell you to try it with a shot of anise liqueur, which was just ok. It was fine mixed with the gelato but soaked into the ladyfingers tasted too much like alcohol for my liking in a dessert. Overall good place, and I really do want to go back to try more things!
Peasant Est. 1999 Layout/atmosphere *Rustic; candlelight; eight seat bar by host stand; tables and semi-open kitchen in back (wood fired grill) Food/drink *Vespaiolo (contra soarda, veneto, 2023, white) - liked it *Cesare’s Prosciutto (ricotta, sourdough pillow) - very good; the pillow was the highlight but even liked the olives *Whole Branzino (Meyer Lemon Salmoriglio) - Good *Affogato (hazelnut gelato, Lavazza Italian espresso) - solid
Peasant is a rustic gem in the heart of NYC. From the dimly lit, cozy ambiance to the wood-fired dishes, everything about this place feels authentic and full of soul. The pastas are handmade and perfectly al dente—don’t miss the rigatoni or the wild boar ragu if it’s on the menu. The wine list is also excellent, with some really nice Italian selections that pair beautifully with the food. Service was warm, attentive, and unpretentious. Perfect for a date night or intimate dinner with friends. Highly recommend!
Food was overall good, I actually really enjoyed the suckling pig and the octopus. Steak was good as well but pricy. Pastas were just ok.
We were one of five or six birthday parties that night, as we kept on hearing the Happy Birthday song from various corners of the restaurant. So, very good for groups. Known for their fire roasted meats, we found the roasts to be good but not amazing. We did, however, love the pastas. The Carbonara was funky in the best way, and the bucatini was well balanced between spicy and acidic. Both cooked to perfect al dente. Inside, it's is very cozy, as you're surrounded by real candles. It's got a tavern by pub but fancy vibe. I really love the dim, loud atmosphere. I wish the service was a bit more attentive, as it was impossible to get water refills.
The food overall was good, especially the pasta—it was flavorful and definitely the highlight of the meal. The calamari was good. The zucchini carpaccio, however, wasn’t really to my taste; I found it a bit underwhelming compared to the other dishes. Still, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the service was attentive. I’d go back again.
Just a tip that the music in this restaurant is comically loud - several members of our family are hard of hearing and were practically unable to participate in conversation for the whole dinner (which was somewhat long due to slow service). Would be fun for a date night but maybe not a family gathering.
Opting for this location for a date night with my girlfriend based on its reputation as a romantic venue didn't quite meet our expectations in terms of the romantic ambiance. The tables were placed too closely together, resulting in a slightly cramped environment, and the noise level was a bit distracting. The overall vibe seemed more suitable for an evening spent with friends rather than a romantic outing. On the culinary side, the food was a highlight, particularly the flavorful calamari we started with. Our entrees, the Rosette and a seasonal eggplant pasta, were both delicious and full of flavor. We had the MORTE DE CIOCCOLATO for dessert, accompanied by a serving of strawberry gelato. The experience was satisfactory but not remarkable. In general, it's a great spot for enjoying dinner and drinks with friends or for a laid-back casual date.
For our date night we went to Peasant. Thursday night, the place was packed. Service was ok, the decor and the ambiance was nice, the Food was not so much. We ordered a couple of dishes and some drinks. Caesar Salad, Burrata cheese and Honeynut squash pasta. Salad was no good, had too much dressing and the leaves were swimming in it, looked like it was prepped in 10 seconds. The pasta was overcooked and mushy, tasted a bit like a baby food. Burrata was ok, the sauce, toast and mushrooms were nice, overall the dinner felt heavy even though they were all veggie dishes. The price was ok for its caliber. If the food was better it would certainly worth it. For 4 drinks, 2 veggie appetizers and one veggie pasta we paid $110 + tip.
Don’t understand the hype. Yes the setting looks exciting, open fire, full pig etc., but the food turned out just so so. The lighting in the restaurant is seriously too dark, the servers are nice but sometimes not efficient enough to check on your empty glasses & plates. Our steak tasted burned but I’m not sure if it’s an “acquired taste”, overall the grilled onions were my favorite of the night.
Super cute restaurant and amazing service! Only real complaint is the gluten free pasta was not the best which is surprising because I’ve had better for cheaper. I’d hesitate coming back because the quality was inconsistent to the point of unpleasantness. Some noodles were thicker and chewier than others, so each bite was an odd surprise. The sauce was delicious but sadly the unpleasant noodle texture pulled focus. Although I appreciate the seriousness the restaurant gave to my allergy, unfortunately the attention to detail that’s given to other “gluten” food on the menu was not given to the gluten free dishes :/ A cute spot overall, just wouldn’t recommend for gluten free unless they revisit their recipe/cooking.
Not sure the food is worth the price. The setting is gorgeous, but the music was far too loud if you’re trying to have a nice dinner (as the menu prices would suggest). -The seasonal shrimp appetizer was the best dish of the meal. Umami forward and flavorful. -The steak tartare was good, but the pizza dough it’s served with is not the right choice. You typically want something crunchy with tartar since the meat is already soft. -The pasta for the smoked linguine was made fresh, but had almost no clam or smoke flavor - just parsley from the gremolata. There were also only 3 small clams for the whole dish. -The gnocchi lamb ragu was confusing. Entirely too much cheese, and the gnocchi just disintegrated (much like mashed potato) and didn’t have much flavor to it. -The branzino was cooked well. I wasn’t a fan of the preparation (slits cut into it and stuffed with lemon slices) because it made it very difficult to filet properly and avoid pin bones. After three cocktails and five plates, with tip it was about $300.
Don't understand the hype either (as some other reviewer have already mentioned). The food was okay, but I thought was overpriced for what we got. We had to wait a very long time for someone to talk about the wine list, as they have a pretty extensive list to chose from. The music was VERY loud.
Food was very good. I highly recommend the rigatoni. Unfortunately, the service is not great. We were required to order all the meals at once even though it was a few hours before they close the kitchen. The server was also slow and very unprofessional.
I really wanted to love this place since I'm local and pass it quite frequently but it took me forever to get around to going. The food and wine were excellent - special shout-out to the sommelier for recommending a brilliant off-list bottle of Arneis. My biggest issue of our experience came at the very beginning when we arrived. There were two hostesses at the entrance; after a short wait (despite being right on time for our 5:15 reservation), we were brought into the restaurant by a third person. She led us to a communal table, which I was shocked a place this nice even had, although the restaurant was only about 10% full and there were plenty of other 4-person tables available. I asked if we could have a private table. She ran back to the hostess stand to check, kept us awkwardly waiting on the restaurant floor for a few minutes. We were then offered another table, thankfully that could only seat 4 people, close to the bar but were told they needed it back by 7:15. Why did they need that one back by a certain time but not the original bizarre communal table they were going to put us at? It felt very off-putting and started our evening out on a sour note. The rest of the interactions felt strained afterwards, like everyone was being nice to us through gritted teeth. For the record, the communal table ended up getting another party seated during our meal and we absolutely would've been so cramped had we stayed there. I wouldn't not recommend this place for those looking for a nice pasta dish and great selection of Italian wine but it definitely would not be my first choice.
Overall food was okay. The portions were rather small for the price and most of the dishes we got were under-seasoned. The wine was the best part of the meal. From the beans to the pasta everything needed a little more salt. Service was a little slow, however the atmosphere of these restaurant was nice both in and outside.
I booked a table a few weeks in advance for my boyfriend’s birthday dinner. There was some sort of mistake with the table and they sat us in the walk in section with no explanation. We sat for 20 minutes with no acknowledgement or service. The waitress told the table next to us she got them a “better” table to move to, meanwhile ignored us for what was supposed to be a celebratory dinner. We left. Super disappointing
My boyfriend and I went for Valentine’s Day we had a 9:15 reservation and got seated at around 9:50. By 11:50 we were leaving the restaurant only having had two appetizers brought to our table. It was supposed to be a 4 course meal. The staff was avoiding us all night we never got updates or apologies. We ended up leaving without having any real food brought out because it was almost midnight and the staff was avoiding us. I wish we were at least given a heads up when being seated about the wait time of the food so we could’ve made the decision to leave and have a chance to get real food somewhere on Valentine’s Day being that by the time we left nothing was really open anymore. The waiter also made a comment on the amount of food we ordered when we placed our order even though we put in 4 courses because that’s what was advertised to us and that’s what we were paying to receive.
Went for Valentine’s Day. Had a 9:15 reservation and didn’t get seated until 9:50. By 11:30 we only received our appetizers and bottle wine. This was supposed to be a 4 course dinner and it took over an hour for one of the courses to come out. Waiters were inattentive and barely apologized. Worst dining experience I’ve ever had, shame on the owners for allowing this place to overbook.
I stopped by this bar recently and ordered the rigatoni, which was decent, but the overall experience was extremely disappointing. While I was there, the owner spent the entire time behind the bar drinking wine with his friends, loudly using slurs and insulting his staff. It created a very uncomfortable and unwelcoming atmosphere. No matter how good the food might be, it’s hard to enjoy a meal in an environment like that. Respect and professionalism should be the bare minimum in any establishment, and unfortunately, this place fell far short. I won’t be returning. EDIT:The below response by the restaurant was a lie to trick readers on google that they made any attempt to do anything.
I'm super disappointed to write this review because I loved this restaurant and basically anything by Marc Forgione, but Valentine's evening at Peasant was nothing short of a disaster. We arrived for a 9:45 pm reservation (so late but I insisted on dining here for VDay) and we could barely get in the door the host stand was so backed up. Took them 15 minutes to seat us and when they did, we were seated in the cellar - not the main dining room. It was so freezing down there that I, like most of the other women in the room, had to wear my winter coat the entire meal. Service was incredibly kind and gracious but beyond overwhelmed. We ordered appetizers, primo (pasta) and secondi (entree dishes). It took nearly 20 minutes for the first dish to arrive and it wasn't even anything we ordered. It was a pasta dish that I think we realized later, belonged to the table next to us. When they took it away the table next to us said "it's been a disaster like this all night." Ten minutes later our appetizers finally arrived. The Ceasar was great but the octopus was very tiny and thin and overcharred. We then waited another 30 minutes for the pasta to arrive. As we waited, we overheard the other tables around us all talking to one another also complaining in frustration about how terrible the evening was- being disappointed in how long everything was taking (one table said they'd been there since 8pm!), having so many errors in their orders, and being seated in the cold cellar. By the time our pastas arrived it was 11:15 pm- an hour and a half after our reservation and we still hadn't received our entrees (we ordered everything within 5 minutes of sitting down). One of the pastas was not warm, the other was very good. We were so frustrated and exhausted by the time the pastas arrived that we just asked our server to put the entrees directly into boxes so we could take them home (we prepaid for the prix fixe so we couldn't cancel the order). This dinner was not at all cheap, so it's a real shame that we didn't get to enjoy it. Branzino isn't exactly the same experience after sitting in a box in the fridge overnight. The service team did the best they could - comped a round of drinks (we bought the first round at the insanely crowded upstairs bar while waiting for our table to be ready) but it was ultimately just a really poor decision to put profits over guest experience by over-seating on Valentines Day. As a restaurant publicist, I know that this decision was one that will come at the expense of the restaurant and chef's reputation and will not be worth the profit in the end.
The food was good, but the service — especially from the sommelier — was disappointing. The restaurant wasn’t even full, yet it took over 15 minutes just to get our first round of cocktails, which already set the tone. Sensing the delay, we asked to order a bottle of wine as soon as our 1st round of drinks arrived. Even then, it took another 15 minutes for the sommelier to come over. After we selected the bottle, there was yet another long 20 minutes wait — all of our food had already been served, and we were still asking where our wine was. When the sommelier finally returned, he presented the bottle but did not open it for us to taste at the table, which is standard practice. Instead, he walked away with the unopened bottle and returned about 10 minutes later with a decanter filled with wine— and the original bottle was nowhere to be seen. This was a very unusual and unprofessional approach to wine service. Overall, the poor coordination and lack of proper service, especially from the sommelier overshadowed what could have been a great dining experience. Unfortunately, we will not be returning.
