Opinions de Soho Diner New York
Soho Diner is a true New York City icon. With its timeless charm and delicious food, it's easy to see why it's a beloved local spot. The diner's classic decor and friendly staff create a warm and inviting atmosphere, perfect for a casual meal or a late-night bite. The menu offers a wide range of classic diner fare, from juicy burgers and crispy fries to fluffy pancakes and omelets. The portions are generous, and the prices are reasonable. The coffee is always hot and strong, and the milkshakes are thick and creamy. Whether you're a tourist or a local, Soho Diner is a must-visit. It's a place where you can experience the true essence of New York City. We visited for breakfast in September 2024 and would highly recommend.
I had such a great time here, and the service truly made the experience. Manager William is wonderful, and the staff is the best. Magon, Luqueni, and Jorge were all so friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming from start to finish. The ambience is beautiful and perfect for any time of day. The Brussels sprouts were delicious, and the bolognese pasta had the perfect texture and tasted amazing with the fresh ricotta. The Orange Cream mocktail was the perfect balance of sweetness and bubbles, super refreshing. For dessert, the chocolate mud cake is AMAZING and the toasted marshmallow milkshake is a must. I’m very excited to try the other desserts. They also have a great happy hour. I cannot wait to come back and try more.
Soho Diner is a fantastic spot. The food was amazing—I had the eggs over medium with a hanger steak cooked perfectly medium rare, served with half an avocado and a fresh arugula salad. Everything was delicious and well prepared. The hostesses, Miller and Penelope, were super friendly and treated us exceptionally well, and the service overall was excellent. Prices are very reasonable, especially for a restaurant in SoHo, NYC. I highly recommend this place and will definitely be back.
I came here on a Saturday in the late afternoon myself, was able to be seated out the counter although there were several open booths as well. Ordered the steak and eggs, then a toasted marshmallow milkshake. The size of the steak and eggs alarmed me at first but they really did taste good; noticeably better than your average diner's steak and eggs. The steak here came dressed with a tasty chimichurri sauce that gave a nice base to meaty taste, and the eggs were rich and creamy, wish there was more of it. Sadly I didn't take a picture of the milkshake but it was good, however given this diner's "old school" vibe, I was expecting a goblet containing some extra shake, but you just get single cup and one toasted marshmallow. Throughout the meal, the service was a bit slow, expect to flag waiters down yourself for requests. Overall, this is a decent spot for food to prime you for a long shopping day in Soho, or to wind down after one
We stopped by SoHo Diner in NYC for a quick late-night snack before they closed and it did not disappoint! Hubby had the SoHo Burger along with a root beer float and I a double vanilla milkshake. The burger was flavorful and satisfying, and both drinks were the perfect classic treats – creamy, sweet, and nostalgic. Service was friendly even though it was close to closing, and the vibe was exactly what you’d want from a modern diner with a retro twist. Definitely worth the visit!
Loved this place - the atmosphere is amazing, I love how the tables are structured so that they give privacy to each party. I loved their food as well - their pancakes are just perfection! I will def come back to try their milkshakes and ice creams which also looked lovely! Service is slow and you can take your time to eat - we spent 3 hours at your table and nobody rushed us to leave (on a Saturday)
I enjoyed breakfast here. The lighting and atmosphere is very calming and nice here. The food was fresh and we were quick to be served. They had plenty of menu choices and all decently priced. I loved the old school jukebox! All servers were pleasant and made sure our drinks were refilled. I had the farmer's breakfast, and it was the perfect amount of food. Loved it!
Stepping back in time with a modern twist! LOVED My Visit to SoHo Diner! Seriously, the aesthetic of this place is incredible. They've perfectly blended vintage diner charm with a modern sensibility. From the stunning light fixtures that cast the perfect glow, to the beautifully upholstered booths that just beckon you to sit down, every detail is spot-on. Even the uniforms the employees wear add to this incredible throwback atmosphere! A must visit!
The vibes were off the charts, perfectly captured the 50s diner aesthetic. We ordered a cheesecake and cherry pie for dessert, didn't have a chance to try the rest of the menu though it looked somewhat promising. Expensive as always in New York, admittedly I'm not a huge pie or cheesecake fan so I thought they were alright. Big bonus is the place is open late.
This is not some run down old diner, everything here is impecable. They have clearly taken the time and put in the work to make this look pristine. The food is good, the fries in particular were flawless. The almond milk latte was great too. I expected the portions to be a little bit bigger for the price, but overall a good trade off. Service was pretty good, just not particularly enthusiastic. They do not make you feel like you have overstayed your welcome if you linger, which is good I would gladly return.
The food all tasted good but the service and vibes were off. We waited for an extremely long time to get just our first and only drink and then waited very long for our meals. The chicken sandwich, salad, fries, and other meals everyone got were tasty but the poor service and somewhat steep prices left us disappointed overall.
There was no host when we got there around noon so we had to wait a while to get seated. Service was super slow, waited like 20 min to even get the check. Barely any water refills. Maybe service would have been quicker if we sat inside. Food was fine, but the burger didn’t even come with fries while the omelette did.
Blending old-school diner charm with a contemporary ease. I came in early on a Friday morning and was seated right away. The vegan banana pancakes were a respectable effort—making them without dairy is no small feat. While these started off decent and the bananas on top helped, they soon veered into artificial tasting territory. The side of chicken sausage was lean, lightly seasoned, and conveniently sliced in half for easy eating. No grease, no heaviness, just a solid source of protein. The service suited a spot like this just fine. Soho Diner isn’t trying to reinvent the wheel; it’s a place to refuel and move on with your day. And that’s exactly what I did.
Our waitress took our order and then didn’t talk to us after besides once when we got her attention. The other two guys were great support staff though! They were attentive and the ones who were paying attention and brought us our plates. The food is way over priced for the quality of food. The burger was $26 and it tasted like freshly thawed meat they threw on the grill, it tasted like a bad McDonald’s burger and the texture was weird. The fries were okay. We also got chocolate chip pancakes ($22) that looked nice and fluffy but it was super dry, though the butter and syrup helped save it. Over all would not recommend the food quality is bad, and of course it is way over priced due to that. Side note, as we were wrapping up, I posted this review. The (I’m assuming) owner came out to just say hi and how we were doing (“hi how are you guys doing”), they didn’t say anything else besides that. But it looks like she just wanted to look at the food on our table to see if it matched the pictures I had posted of it.
Overall, the food at this spot is delectable. I’ve been here a handful of times and each time the food is certainly best aspect. It’s classic NYC faire, dare I say USA faire. Usually when I come here I order either the burger or turkey club, both of which are solid in terms of culinary taste. The spot is open until late which is an asset, especially in NYC these days where places are closing earlier and earlier. Unfortunately, that’s the end of the benefits. The service is slow. There’s no two ways about that. I was seated at 6:25 PM. The place was more than half empty. It took until 7 pm to actually get service (i.e. an attendant asking for my order). I can understand this if the place is crowded but more than half empty? That’s unacceptable. Either the management is assigning too few employees per shift or the employees assigned are ineffective. Regardless, the result is the same: subpar service. I was only able to put my order in because I flagged down the manager after almost 30 minutes of waiting. Additionally, I received my food before my drink. I think they just legit forgot my drink order. I had to remind my server (when he brought the food) that I had actually ordered a drink. So overall, who do I think would do well at this eatery? Places like this were designed for tourists. People who don’t know what fine dining is, or at least the common decencies of diner dining (diner dining in the USA being the most egalitarian form of food eating). This is a place for out-of-towners, people new to the city, grateful simply for being present in the warm glow of Manhattan. It’s a tourist trap, said simply. Native born denizens know better. Denizens know who have lived here longer than 3 months also know better. It’s not that the diner is bad; it’s just that better food alternatives exist not even 5 minutes away. I want so much more for the SoHo Diner. I want so much more for this culinary outpost, equidistant to both to the financial largess of Wall Street and the B2C culture of 14th street , Union Square. But as it stands now, this eatery is riding the coat-tails of a convenient location. The ICP (ideal customer profile) of this business is tourists who don’t know better. Side note: the beer is fine and the happy hour is decent. $10 for a cocktail is more than good for work island. I only wish that management understood stood the dining market much better.
Went here for their thanksgiving special and it did not live up to expectations unfortunately. The turkey was super dry, the cranberries were extremely tart, and the stuffing was mostly giant pieces of apple. The apple pie was also served ice cold which felt disappointing since it would have been easy to serve warm if there was more thought put into the meal. We ended the meal by waiting around 30 minutes for the server to check on us post-dessert to give the check. Really was looking forward to this place but felt disappointed by the experience.
