Opinions de Sonnyboy New York
This past Friday, I hosted a birthday dinner at Sonnyboy for a group of 12 and it ended up being the best place I could have chosen for a large party. I had emailed Jatin, the restaurant owner, in advance to organize the large party and he arranged 4 tables next to each other to accommodate the group. That was perfect because we were close enough to all talk, but not trapped at a long table without any ability to get out. Beyond the table, Jatin was incredibly responsive and helpful before the event and was so nice while we were there, making sure we were well taken care of the whole time. Plus he made this paan drink that was absolutely incredible. The service there was excellent in general and everyone was really sweet. As for the food, we ordered all of the small plates to share before people moved on to entrées, and there genuinely wasn’t a miss. The Kung Pao cauliflower was my personal favorite. It was crispy, saucy, and that cravable sweet and sour flavor that you get from manchurian. Loved it. The tingly fried chicken lived up to its name: ultra-crispy, juicy, and layered with flavor from the Szechuan pepper, mustard green mayo, and lime that made it feel really bright. I also really loved the shrimp dish and the shishito peppers. I’m gluten free and felt very well taken care of. There were lots of options and the servers and kitchen were really clear with me in terms of cross contamination. Meanwhile, the rest of the group, who are very much not gluten free, could not stop talking about the burrata and fig toast, the marinara meatballs, and several other dishes they ordered. We all left full and happy. I would recommend this to anyone whether you're just getting some friends together or having a larger party. Already thinking about going back here next year. I added some photos, but we were having so much fun that these are a little blurry haha!
My best friend and I hosted our joint birthday party at Sonnyboy this past December and could not have had a better experience! After another bar cancelled on us last minute, we had to scramble to find another place, and it ended up being a blessing in disguise because our Sonnyboy party was everything we hoped for and more. Jatin and his staff went above and beyond in every way — we felt not just accommodated, but truly cared for. They even let us rename drinks on the menu to fit the theme of the party (their idea, not ours!) and printed custom menus for us, which were a HUGE hit. The service was excellent throughout the night and everyone had an amazing time. If I could give Sonnyboy 6 stars, I would! Thank you again for everything, Jatin! 🤍
DELICIOUS! The food was absolutely amazing. The coffee - not so much :( but that was just me (and my European taste I guess) because my partner liked it. We missed our reservation so we sat at the bar, the waiter forgot a side dish we ordered and honestly we regretted ordering it either way so it was completely fine, he also forgot to give us utensils which again was fine as it didn’t take long for him to give them to us. Because of this, we were given a discount even though we really didn’t mind the two minor inconveniences and were happy with the food anyway. 10/10 would recommend :)
It’s not really a secret but Sonnyboy has a top 5 pancake in NYC. But like I said this is far from a hidden gem people know about this place and they normally have to wait to get in. I suggest taking a “sick day” from work on a Wednesday or Thursday and treat yourself. I also had the shakshuka which was great as well. The shoe string fries with the Sonnyboy seasoning are addictive. Lastly you can find a pretty good matcha latte and ice vanilla latte.
I’m hesitant to write this review because I love this spot SO MUCH I don’t want to risk not getting a seat 😂 That said, their food is out of this world. Coffee is delicious, wait staff is kind. It’s a triple threat in an unsuspecting location. Highly recommend. I typically go for a breakfast hotcake. But it’s really all good.
I went for brunch at Sonnyboy and it was an amazing experience. The service was fast and excellent, and everything came out perfectly. I tried the hotcakes and the breakfast burrito—both were fantastic. The hotcakes were incredibly fluffy, with just the right amount of sweetness, and the breakfast burrito was flavorful and satisfying. Definitely a spot I’d love to come back to!
Believe the rumours - this place is excellent. From the food to the background music, from the staff to the interiors, my experience was top-notch. I'll dream about the harissa folded eggs and the matcha latte was flawless. Also with their carefully crafted ambiance I guarantee you'll feel like the main character of a very stylish movie.
Since I was unable to accomplish my morning appointment and had an afternoon appointment in the area, I was looking for a place where I could sit down and eat and handle some paperwork. I found Sonnyboy, which looked like it had some meat. This is important for me because I'm in on a high protein, high fat diet, with very few carbs. It's very hard to find a restaurant that serves something that I can eat. It was still fairly early, so I got breakfast. I ordered a salmon eggs benedict but requested that, instead of the English muffin, it be served on avocado, which was already coming with it anyway. I then ordered scrambled eggs on the side. It wasn't too long before I got my first dish, the salmon eggs benedict. It was absolutely delicious. The smoked salmon was fresh, the avocado was without a blemish, the poached eggs - once you cut them - were exactly what they needed to be for an eggs benedict, pouring out onto what they are served on, and the hollandaise sauce was flavorful to the point where I didn't need to add any salt to my dish. The only thing that I took issue with was that the Hollandaise sauce was cold. Now, this is intended to prevent the sauce from going bad, but it is always best to serve hollandaise sauce at warm or room temperature. That being said, reheating the sauce can become problematic if you can't sit there and watch it consistently. Because the hollandaise felt like it had just come out of the refrigerator, it made the egg feel cold. That did not stop me from getting down on my plate. The eggs benedict came with a side salad, which was also very good. It was a rather large dish overall, but not too much. A well-rounded meal. Once I finished the poached eggs, I still had some avocado and salmon left over, so I took the scrambled eggs and transferred them to the plate. The scrambled eggs were well cooked, slightly wet like I like them, and fluffy. The texture was exactly what I would expect for scrambled eggs. I did need to add salt for the scrambled eggs, but that's personal taste. Most restaurants will go light on the salt because you can always add salt, but you can't take it away. I ordered a cup of coffee. I typically like it light and sweet, but since I don't do sugar or dairy, I asked for oatmilk and some type of alternative sugar. They carry stevia, which, while containing erythritol, still gave me the sweetness I was looking for. Overall, I definitely recommend Sonnyboy. The owner (or manager) was attentive, accommodating, present, and ensured that all of the guests in the restaurant were properly taken care of. It's an intimate restaurant with mirrored ceilings, seating just under 25 people, quiet, and out of the way, just enough where there were customers, but it wasn't overrun. It's definitely a place I'd like to eat again whenever I'm in the area.
Found this hidden gem by recommendation. Highly recommend the fig and sourdough bread. Amazing! The apple and walnut salad was pretty good too. The falafel bowl was decent (if you’re a fan of olives). The chicken was finger lickin’ good. Nice date spot. Highly recommend reservations due to size.
Came in for a quick bite before meeting a friend somewhere else. This is a small restaurant with great decor and a wonderful dish the “Tingly Chicken”. It is SPICY so eaters beware but with a lime and chipotle mayo it tones down the spice without diminishing it. The chicken was perfectly breaded and crisp. It was delicious! The service was quick and the waitress/hostess was very sweet. The table in front of me order a load of food that i wished i ordered so I’ll be back for a full dinner or brunch meal! This place also has happy hour from 5pm to 7pm✨
The food is absolutely delicious. Went for brunch on a Saturday and the wait time was about 2 hours. I don’t know if I would wait 2 hours again but the staff really makes you feel welcomed and they’re all very attentive and nice. I suggest getting there before noon if you don’t want to wait for that long on a weekend to get a table. The ricotta hot cake was the star of the brunch, sooooo yummy, it melts in your mouth. Prices are very reasonable, highly recommend.
Walked in for brunch (the wait was about 2 hours). The food was absolutely fantastic — the ricotta hotcake is the winner but the shakshuka was also tasty. While the food was awesome, our table was next to the open sidewalk cellar door, which was where they put their trash, so it smelled like trash (more than the usual NYC trash smell). Something was also dripping on my friend the entire time we were eating. Gross! So I would probably try to get a table inside in the future.
enjoyed a lovely sunday brunch here! arrived at 12, got seated in around 20-30 mins. my personal favorite was the ricotta hotcake – was super fluffy and perfect sweetness. matcha was absolutely terrible though…. literally just tasted like milk😭💔 but other than that a delicious, cozy brunch spot
Vibey brunch in a cozy cafe with hip ambiance and upbeat background tunes. The music is groovy; I almost want to snap my fingers as I sip my coffee. Some plants sugarcoat the space: the intention is there, but some need more watering. The drip coffee is a dark roast: drinkable and smooth, served in sleek black ceramic ware. Good but not the primary goal of the place: food is. The harissa eggs had the right spice and salad mix (brilliant with the blueberries). Cappuccino could use more foam! Shakshuka could use more herbs and a thicker veggie base. Hanging out here feels like a vibe, and I’m sure it’s worthy coming back at night. AJ, our greeter and server, was great! Drip coffee score: 3.75/5. Everything else score: 4.25/5. Overall score: 4/5.
small brunch place around chinatown. I came with friends for brunch and nothing stood out. the fig burrata toast didn’t have flavor and no flavor profiles stood out. the hot cakes were a bit dense but the raspberry jam was nice to cut the sweetness. the breakfast burrito was good with the salsa verde but could’ve used another kick from some hot sauce. lastly we got shoe string fries which were more like regular fries. the servers were nice and the atmosphere is cute
