Love this organic wine bar! Came for the wine… stayed for the food. No wine list - just choose your “emotion” and “color” and a wonderful recommendation will be delivered to you. We started with prosciutto and sheep’s cheese. The grilled bread is incredible. We tried the lobster pasta and carbonara, and both were delicious. Erika and Andy amazing - will be back again soon to try the gnocchi!
Spes truly feels like a second home for us — and that’s all thanks to Erica. Every time we walk in, she welcomes us with the kind of warmth and hospitality that you can’t teach. She knows exactly what we like, what we order, and she even remembers our family. As an Italian myself, it feels so special to be greeted by someone who shares the same roots and brings that authentic Italian spirit to every interaction — genuine care, attention, and heart. We keep coming back because of her. Thank you, Erica, for always making our experience unforgettable. Spes wouldn’t be the same without you!

Amazing atmosphere, super creative wine menu (there isn’t one — just a mood board), noticeably great service, and delicious food. Practically everything is straight from Italy. Natural wines. Outstanding dishes. I want to sit in here and try wines every night.

Sat outside so not sure about the inside vibe but the outside was perfect for a warm spring day! I love the fun way you choose a wine, the staff was so helpful too and gave amazing suggestions. The food was also INCREDIBLE!!! Octopus, lamb ragu, truffle pasta & crab gnocchi all insanely good. Coming back ASAP! 💘🤤🤤
Had an amazing time at this lovely wine bar - this is instantly my new favorite place! It’s the combination of delicious Italian food, huge selection of natural wines, good company and good vibe that makes this a jewel in East Village. First and foremost this is a wine bar focusing on natural Italian wines. The restaurant is beautiful and has a cozy, intimate vibe - so, definitely a great spot to bring a date. They have a vast selection - obvious when we walked in because we were surrounded by literal walls of wines. There is no wine menu, because they have a really inventive way of recommending wines! You get handed a card with spinning hands (shaped like bottle and rooster), like a clock. Choose the color of the wine with the bottle-hand, and the “mood” with the cute little rooster. Then, the staff will bring out bottles of wines and help you find the one you like the most, and also tell you cool stories about the wine and the maker - a lot of times they have direct connections with these producers, super cool! Having said that, this would also be a super cute date spot! The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about wines, and all the ones they recommended to us were spot-on. I also find this is a much more honest, unpretentious way to truly explore wines - as opposed to reading a wine list and having no idea about most of them. I tell the experts what flavors/style you’re looking for, try them, then get to learn more about my own preferences. The food is really fresh and flavorful - we had a party of 5 and tried so many things but here are the real highlights. The Straciatella & Anchovies appetizer is out of this world - some of us who don’t usually like anchovies were really surprised to find that these are completely different and absolutely delicious. For main course, the Gnocchi Cacio e Pepe is a must have. The gnocchis look different than what you usually get from the store - they are much bigger, shaped like fluffy elongated balls. When you bite into it, you’ll discover a soft potato shell caressing a flavorful filling. Never had gnocchi like this before and it really blew my mind. If you love truffle pasta or want some vegan option - the pasta with truffle is definitely the go-to (the Tagliolini al Tartufo). These two were my favorite, though the other pastas we got (wild boar Ragu, lamb Ragu, lobster pasta) were very good as well. For dessert - if you’re a Tiramisu fan like me, you cannot miss it here. It’s homemade - the kind that has an ample amount of mascarpone and very soft sponge dipped in rich coffee - really hit the spot. Overall - amazing place, and can’t wait to come back!

I wish they had an option to look at the wine list, it took us a while to find a wine we liked based on what the waitress was bringing us. but the wine spinner is a fun idea for those that don’t know much about wine. overall, loved this spot and will definitely return!

What we love most about SPEZ is that every single bottle is available by the glass, which lets us keep coming back to discover new grapes, regions, and producers from Italy. Erika and Ale run the show and they bring INCREDIBLE energy- super knowledgeable, friendly, fun, and just amazing. Fresh food and products always continue to make the place a restaurant we always return to. I have hosted both personal and professional events at this location and some of their other locations! We can’t wait to come back for more wine nights and to keep sharing the amazing world of SPEZ. 🍷♥️🎉
Spes is amazing! I keep going back, such great service, great vibes, and top of the notch wine. There’s so many different bars in this area but Spes stands out because you alwyas leave having high quality wine and food and the most amazing service who are really fun to talk to!
Our server, Andy, was absolutely amazing. He let us try a few wines before we narrowed it down to our favorite. He was so attentive to our dishes and glasses. I got the burrata appetizer which was delicious! Absolutely recommend for a good date or dinner with a friend!

My favorite Italian wine bar/restaurant in the city. The food is fantastic, and the wine menu is expensive. Erica was an amazing server, she was extremely knowledge about the nuances of wines, and informed us a lot about Italian culture.

Definitely a pearl in the East Village, perfect for date night or night out with friends. Food is authentic and super tasty, and the amount of wine varieties is just incredible, as well as the staff ability to guide the whole experience and find the perfect wine for you. One of my favorite spot in the city.

We paid around $200 for 3 people before tips You should ask the server the cost of wine per glass, because they don’t tell it to you and it’s mostly 20-25/ glass and the bottle is $110- $150. The servers are amazing, very friendly and knowledgeable. It’s a tight space and even though the main course is 👌🏻 the starters/ charcuterie was very very small and not worth the price. I’d recommend ask them to let you taste more if you don’t like what they pick. They have a game based on which they suggest you wines, but if you know what type of wine you enjoy, get that. I got an orange wine and it was so good, had an orange wine for the first time and loved it!! They also clicked a Polaroid of us, the server was ❤️
