The atmosphere was amazing, the service was excellent, and the food was great. The drinks weren’t mind-blowing, but still nice and enjoyable. As for the music, we saw two brilliant groups. The acoustics were great and the volume was perfect — loud enough to enjoy the performance but still low enough to hold a conversation. Overall, a great spot with very reasonable prices compared to other jazz bars in the city. Would definitely come back.

One of my favorite places in New York to go out for a night, despite its long wait-times. Waiting in line can take more than an hour or two depending on the day. Food: Affordable and tasty food overall! I’ve had a lot of their menu selection and I have enjoyed every one of them. My favorite would be the hamburger steak and cod roe spaghetti. Atmosphere: Very cozy ambience with the candle-lot lighting and the chill live jazz. Feels very intimate! Service: The service is wonderful. Many times I’ve been here, when there was a seat closer to the live jazz the servers would offer if my party would like to sit closer. The staff are very friendly and attentive!

The atmosphere was phenomenal. The wait time was not because over 2 hrs waiting in line is insane granted we started waiting at 8pm on a Thursday night. We were so hungry, but some dishes are skips (Champon noodles and maybe the spam rice balls). I really enjoyed the Omurice and the cod roe udon. The popular dishes are popular for a reason! I do have to say that the layout of this place is a bit awkward. There are tables where you cannot see the jazz band at all, so just be wary.

Super cute Japanese anime themed restaurant. Full menu at the bar - the shironeko nabe was perfect cold weather comfort food. Loved my pretty and not too sweet Sailor Moon cocktail

Phenomenal :) Having frequented many jazz bars over the course of many years, visiting Tomi Jazz for the first time during this NYC vacation was such an amazing experience. While it is understandable that the wait can be annoying, Tomi Jazz is a small, cozy, and gorgeously designed jazz bar that is first come, first serve. If you wish to catch a live music session, then you should plan accordingly- we arrived at 5:30 and were led to our seats at 6:10. Starting off with the food, our group felt that we had no dish under a 9 out of 10. The mentaiko udon pasta was perfectly cooked- rich, creamy, and infused with the umami saltiness of the cod roe. While I usually prefer Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki, theirs was still super savory, delectable, well balanced, and piping hot as it should be. The crab croquettes tasted delicious, the panko crust light and airy, while the filling was lusciously smooth- though it could have done with having more actual crab meat. The omurice was standard, with the perfectly cooked, "fall open" egg omelette on top, and an interesting choice of sausage as their choice of meat. The tofu salad was also standard, with large chunks of kinu tofu served on top of mixed greens with bonito flakes and wakame. Lastly the honey toast with matcha ice cream and red bean paste rounded out our meal nicely, with the matcha ice cream being particularly memorable as it had the proper amount of bitterness only real matcha has. The drinks were all well balanced and aromatic! The lychee martini was subtle but tasty. The ume hime was shockingly smooth. The zen was strong but balanced out over time as the ice slowly melted. The pina colada was sweetness came both the pineapple and the coconut cream without either being overpowering. Music was riveting, smooth, and impeccably synchronized. Yuko-san on drums was especially awesome to watch. Listening to a good live jazz group will never be not a good time. In all, the atmosphere inside Tomi Jazz was so soulful, live jazz floating out of a corner,, happy conversations from patrons all around you, the regular shaking of a cocktail mixer from the bar, and the warm, cozy atmosphere oozing from all the soft candles, lanterns, and lamps. Can't wait to come again with friends :)

We arrived on a Wednesday night around 5:45 pm and managed to get in just before 7:30 pm. With only about 20 people ahead of us, the wait was definitely worth it. They play jazz every 30 minutes at 6:30, 7:30 and 8 pm. The atmosphere is lovely, though it can get quite packed. It’s a great spot for a romantic date night rather than a large get-together. The food was fantastic. I highly recommend the cod roe udon – it’s creamy and fishy but the kick of spice cuts through the fishy aftertaste. The croquettes are also delicious, and the ominiyaki was very good, especially considering what I had in Japan. The service was incredibly good. The food arrived quickly and the dishes were served right after each other without feeling rushed. Overall, it was a very good experience. They accept cash and offer a 5% discount.

The wait is super long, so if you want to enjoy this place, come a bit early. I arrived at 7 and waited a little over 2 hours. But my girlfriend and I alternated so we could stay warm. There’s a Starbucks at the corner ahaha. it was really worth it. The exclusivity, atmosphere, food, service, Jazz, all so beautiful. It was dreamy night. I have 0 complaints.

If you're willing to do the hour+ wait. The experience is worthwhile. Jazz + izakaya food and a chill atmosphere. The seating wasn't as cramped as I originally thought and my gf and I absolutely enjoyed. Plus the drinks were delightful! We had a few plum wines and beers. Overall recommend! The food is very filling! Definitely try their okonomiyaki! But def get there early or you will be waiting! Good thing we didn't mind the wait 😌

we waited in line for an hour and a half, which wasn't so bad since we did arrive a little late. the atmosphere is amazing, the service was excellent and the food was great. the drinks weren't mind-blowing but they were nice. as for the music, we saw two brilliant groups: the acosutics are great and the music had an excellent volume, allowing us to mantain a conversation whilst enjoying the music. great place with pretty great prices in comparison to other jazz bars in the city.

It was my first time here, and I waited outside in the cold for two hours. But the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was beyond anything I could imagine absolutely amazing. With the live jazz and the food, it was totally worth the wait. I highly recommend this place.

We went on a random weekday and had to wait in line for an hour to get in. But the food, music and atmosphere were all worth the wait. The music was amazing, very old school jazz with lots of improvisation. They have different artists every day so the experience is probably different. The music is not very loud and you can easily have a conversation. The menu is extensive, lots of interesting food and a separate section listing all their vegetarian options.

Great choice for decent jazz music after a MOMA trip. Discovered it after making a trip to the nearby Kati Roll shop (a staple for us whenever visiting NYC). Expansive choices of Japanese whiskies, including some very high end ones. Small, cozy place with long wait times.

Got there around 4:45 pm got in about close to 6:00 pm. $10 per person for the fee. Jazz music doesn’t start till 6 pm. Ordered the shrimp croquette for appetizer and my husband and I tried the yaki soba and okonomiyaki. Very delicious. Made me missed Japan.

Loved the atmosphere of this spot. Great service and music. Very intimate. Line does get long and real fast. We were there 30 mins to opening and still had ppl in front of us. Was lovely for a date night.

Absolutely loved this place and defs recommend. Nice unique experience of a jazz club with Japanese food. The food was incredible and service very quick. Slight cost for performance and seems like long line but goes by fast. Got leeched martinis, croquets, Cod Roe noodles, and Japanese pancake ( my favorite). Such good quality of food and so different. Strongly Recommend

Truly excellent jazz bar. The music is really lovely and the food is fantastic. Genuinely everything is very delicious. Highly recommend the onigiri and the fried chicken wings. Also the curry is quite good and I will definitely be ordering on my next visit. It’s a really nice place to chat in and the decor is immaculate.

Wow, great experience! We visited on a Friday night, group of 5, got in line around 9pm and got seated about an 1.5hr later. Once we got in, since it’s a group of 5 they sat us in the back in a more private section but you couldn’t really hear or see the band but shortly after ordering, they actually moved us to another spot where we can be in the action. I really appreciated that! We started with Lemon drop martini (yum!) and the petite squid, interesting. Followed by Katsu sando which was great, but we had to finish our entree with the omurice, get the omurice! Finally we ended it with honey toast and Zen. The jazz band really set the vibes and the service was top tier, very attentive. I personally felt like the wait was worth it, weather was good so I didn’t mind it. Will absolutely be coming back!

Everything inside the bar from food to atmosphere was absolutely perfect! I expected this place to focus mainly on vibes and drinks but the food was actually one of the best I ever had. I personally love jazz and the two groups I saw perform were incredible! All the musicians were super into their performance and sounded great. Only thing I would say is to not be surprised by a 1-2hr wait in line (it was totally worth it for me though—I forgot about the wait once I was inside)

Nicole Sedef

Only downside is that we waited around 60-70 minutes to get in. Because it was already around 10PM and we were tired and hungry, we thought we’d wait and see if what’s inside would make up for the wait time. The atmosphere, the music, the delicious food, amazingly balanced cocktails and the prices made up for it for sure. We would wait again for that incredible experience.

Not mad honestly at the 1hour 15minute wait. It felt like part of the experience but I wouldn’t have been happy if I had to wait closer to 2 hours. The food was pretty good and I agree with others that it’s not actually “intimate”, it really is just small and cramped. But it’s unique and an experience that I wouldn’t probably do again just for the vibe. You don’t get on a waiting list or have any idea of the wait time. It’s just a waiting game and many people ahead of us gave up. I wouldn’t say the food is ABOVE average but i have no complaints.

Where do I even begin? We lined up around 5 PM and the wait (about 30–45 minutes) flew by tip: pull up the menu QR code while you wait. Once inside, it felt like stepping into another world: cozy, dimly lit, intimate, with a live jazz band that set the mood perfectly. We were seated in a back booth for three, which was spacious and great for conversation. Drinks included the Mandarin Slush, Lychee Martini, Road Runner, and The Bate. Standouts were the Lychee Martini and Mandarin Slush: well-balanced and refreshing without being overpowering. Food highlights: Fried Brie with Honey Mustard – crispy, gooey, absolute must-order Okonomiyaki – tasted just like Japan; I’d come back for this alone Seafood Spaghetti – do NOT sleep on this—fresh, briny, and transportive Hayashi Rice – rich, comforting, and deeply flavorful (Omu rice was fine, just not a standout.) Seasoned Octopus – fresh with a nice wasabi kick (can do without) Dessert sealed the deal: the Honey Toast with Green Tea Ice Cream & Red Bean was everyone’s favorite—perfectly balanced and indulgent, like a deconstructed taiyaki. The Lychee Ice Cream was light and refreshing with great texture. Overall: incredible ambiance, live jazz, and standout Japanese-Italian fusion dishes. Cozy, romantic, and 100% worth the wait.

We, and everyone we spoke to, waited 3 hours to get in. It was a really cool place once we got inside with an epic vibe, great, fast service, good cocktails, and at a reasonable price but in the future probably not worth waiting more than an hour or so as most people have. We arrived at 5:10pm and didn’t get seated until 8:10pm. The line never felt that long but it moved painfully slow. Both bands were incredible. It truly felt like we were transported to Japan. Mostly sharing so that future visitors can mentally prepare for a potentially 3 hour wait time.

Came on a Monday night around 8pm and waited 1.5 hrs. Food, drinks, and the live jazz were great. My party of 2 shared a table with 4 other people so it was cramped. Beware of the server that comes around asking for a donation to the band. They don't clarify that the contribution doesn't include the music cover charge per person that gets added to your final bill. They also charged tip on their portable machine based on the total amount including the music cover charge, which is wrong. I was initially satisfied with the food and drinks but left very unhappy since I felt extorted.

I wanted to give it a 5 for overall experience EXCEPT for the fact that there was a BABY ROACH on our sake carafe. On a Saturday, we got there at 3:30 and were second in line, but there are space heaters so it was okay waiting the hour and a half for a guaranteed great seat. The jazz was really wonderful, and it's at a cozy level where you can still hear yourself talk. The photobooth picture thing is a nice touch, the drinks are standout (the Roadrunner is excellent) and the food is very solid for the price point. The service is honestly really good, with attentive and kind and polite waitstaff. When we pointed out the roach on the sake, the waiter immediately replaced it and comped the sake on the house, but honestly it kind of put a damper on an otherwise really nice experience. It was really surprising, pretty unappetizing and disappointing.

My review is based on party of 1pax (myself). Positive: Bespoke underground Japanese jazz "cafe" serving light meals, albeit great food with wide selection of drinks and Japanese beers and whiskeys. Decor and ambiance is quite nice and very rustic. Space is small yet cozy and intimate if you do not mind. Focus is more on wine/dine with music than music being the focus. Music was acoustic jazz (trio) playing more traditional jazz. Negatives: Wait time to be seated was 1.5hrs, expect to wait atleast 1hr+ when showing up on a Thurs, ~8pm. For 1pax seat placement was horrible as I was sat in small counter spacer in the middle between the bar and dining area looking away from the band so both staff and patrons kept brushing up on me multiple time while eating my meal. Once seated i was immediately asked what to order and didn't really feel welcomed rather rushed to hurry and decide. Overall, being 1pax I wouldn't recommend. For groups of 2+ perhaps more suitable however despite the ambiance and good food/drink selection and music it didn't feel all that welcoming rather trying to move as many pax in/out during evening hrs. Just my 2 cents ✌️ Give it a try.

Went to Tomi jazz after seeing so many recommendations but was sorely disappointed. We were prepared to wait as everyone said it was worth the wait, but it really wasn't at all. The service was mid at best - mixing up our orders, and one of the servers kept knocking onto my chair because it was just so cramped. The drinks were ok. Music was good but nothing spectacular like others were describing. The main issue with this place is how extortionate it is. We had to pay a music cover charge on top of getting food and drinks. Not only that, before we even got served anything, a server comes and ask for donations for the band.. so why is there a music cover charge in the first place? On top of that, when we paid in cash, they had the audacity to ask if we wanted our change. That was $50 of change by the way. Even with tips for 2 people, it's not even $50. The place was really also cramped, I guess people think this is "intimate", but really it's just a fire hazard. With all the lit lamps around, them wanting to fit everyone in as possible, and the layout being in a basement; honestly it concerns me how this place gets approved for safety.
