Opinions de Pret A Manger New York
I've now dined at both the Midtown East & West Side locations of Sugarfish. Both establishments are equally fantastic from a food quality perspective. This is a high-end but rushed omakase experience, so keep that in mind. If you're looking for a quiet special occasion dining experience, while the sushi is amazing, this is not the place. Neither location takes reservations. It is first come, first serve, so get here early as the crowds follow. The pricing is great for the experience, but if you're not here by noon during the week, you may not get a seat!
The absolute best dinner with my 10 year old daughter! Hazel, who normally works at that flat iron location was absolutely amazing, possibly the best way dress we've ever had! She explained every part of the menu in detail and was able to convince my daughter to try things she never did. She was obsessed and so was I! Will definitely be back!
This has been on my list for a while and I’m glad I finally got here as I really like the quality/value combo they’ve got going. It’s a fairly simple menu and your best bet is to go with one of the sets. I went with the $56 set which comes with about 9 courses. Everything was extremely fresh, delicious, and I thought the perfect amount. If I had a minor complaint, it’d be that I wish they carried more sake options - but those they had were very good value. And on top of that, they have a no tipping policy which helps make for an awesome deal on some great sushi. I’ll be back!
Got the Nazawa Trust Me menu prix fixe choice and damn was it worth it. So very good, each fish was deliciously fresh, and had the consistency of butter where it just melts in your mouth beautifully with all the flavors. Would highly recommend. Came on a Saturday around 2 pm, and was able to find a table right away for a party of two. On top of it, they have a no tipping policy.
Best and most fresh sushi I've had! My girlfriend and I went here for our anniversary dinner and the experience was excellent. All the staff were very nice, especially our server Mona!
I love this place. I don't care if it's a 'chain'. It's amazing every single time. The value is unparalleled. I come to a sugar fish location every time I'm in NYC. This one was great like the rest. Maybe a little smaller than average, but just as good.
For the price point, SUGARFISH is the best Omakase restaurant in terms of overall value. I came here during lunch, they don’t accept reservations and the lines are pretty long usually. I was able to get seated pretty quickly by showing up 30 minutes before the lunchtime rush. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and will definitely be back!
Awesome experience every time. Trust me, get the “Trust Me”. Great selection of hand rolls and nigiri. Came in at 10pm on a Sunday before close - it couldn’t have mattered at all to my server Jordan who provided incredible service through and through. To say Jordan was considerate, positive, friendly and hospitable would be an understatement.
Incredible sushi at an incredible price. I was mindblown by the quality of the fish and taste. Service was super attentive and we had a great dinner. I highly recommend it!
Save as a date night spot!! Or even just to satisfy that sushi craving! We went at a good time. Walked-in, and was seated right away! As a first timer, my husband and I ordered the ‘Trust Me’ omakase. Usually, I am hesitant of the amount of sushi I would have to eat. But this was probably one of the best portions/courses! I didn’t have to loosen my belt not unbutton my pants 😅
We went to eat here for dinner. It is a cozy and comfortable place, fresh sushi and good value with the trust me, Nozawa and trust me lite, don’t think just eat fixed menu options. This place is has a no tipping policy. I would go back here again. It is a very good option for lunch as well. We made reservations
Sugarfish is the perfect impromptu sushi spot. If you’ve just finished shopping or are in the area for a doctor’s appointment and need a quality bite of food, come here. I’d compare it to Bondi Sushi, where there’s an authentic but relaxed and accessible feel to the menu. I did the classic trust me set with a friend. Yum!
I go here when I go with my friends who like soft things 🤍💚🤍💚🤍💚🤍💚🤍💚🤍💚🤍💚 Rice spreads before you take a bite and uses tuna meat and raw fish itself only as a texture agent! It's a restaurant with good price performance, so I wait in line to eat it As you can see, the texture of the fish that you can feel in the picture..
I really enjoy Sugarfish omakase and am a regular at this location. I’ve always had great experiences here, which is why this visit stood out. I came with my cousins to celebrate a birthday, and before bringing a cake, I asked an employee if it would be okay. They said yes and even offered to bring us clean plates and forks, so I felt confident it wouldn’t be an issue. We had a very pleasant meal and great service from our server. During the shift change, however, a female manager I didn’t recognize (may be new to the location) approached us and said that outside food wasn’t allowed. I explained that I had asked for permission beforehand, but the interaction felt abrupt and dismissive, which was disappointing. I still think this is the best-tasting Sugarfish location and normally love coming here, but that moment put a damper on what was meant to be a celebratory meal. I hope there can be better communication among staff, and the return of the regular male manager, so situations like this don’t happen in the future.
My husband and I have been to Sugarfish several times and love it. Tonight, unfortunately, our experience was ruined by terrible service. We each ordered the don’t trust me set and two green teas…we didn’t even get our teas until half an hour later. We didn’t receive the sashimi course (the first course after the edamame app) of our meal until an hour later. My husband spoke to our waiter who told us that the kitchen somehow “lost” our order which was why it was behind. Despite our initial complaint, we still waited a long time between courses. Three groups of customers came after us and all were served their first few courses before us. Mind you, one table had 5 people, and by the time we were served our first course, one table had already left. The only reason why I’m giving 3 stars instead of 1 is because the general manager (I think his name was Kevin) made sure the rest of our courses came out quicker after my husband spoke to him & he took one of the don’t trust me sets off our bill, which we greatly appreciated. Though the food here is always delicious, we were disappointed that we couldn’t really enjoy it since we were so annoyed by how long we had to wait just to eat.
We had lunch here and the preparation was extremely poor. Most pieces looked attractive but all the fish (including the salmon salad and dungeoness crab salad in the handrolls) was terribly cold, and the chutoro was actually still partly frozen when it was brought to the table. The ankimo "sashimi" was actually the worst ankimo I've ever had, drowned in a thick sauce and with a grainy texture. Would not recommend. Interior was handsome.
Listen, the fish is amazing. A bit pricey for the quantity, but outstanding quality. However, they don’t have any gluten-free adaptations, not even GF soy sauce - the waiter, who was lovely and I’m sure has no fault - told me I’m welcome to bring my own in the future. Never in my life have I brought my own soy sauce anywhere. Maybe it’s a US thing? Also they don’t take Apple Pay, which was odd to me as a tourist coming from Central Europe where I don’t ever carry a wallet on me.
For those who have never had good quality sushi this will be a nice upgrade from the usual. But at that price point you can get way between sushi at other genuinely good restaurants. The rice is not warm enough (not grocery store cold clearly sitting out of the cooker for a bit), fish quality is good not great, sushi making skills are poor (ngiris fall apart). This would be3.5 stars absolute and 2 stars adjusted for price.
Delivery was excellent. However, my order of salmon eggs had a long black hair in it which I discovered while biting into my food. Disgusting! I couldn’t finish the rest of my order and will never eat food from here again. Still nauseated just thinking about it
Cheesecake Factory of sushi, tacky and over priced. Eat local not at tacky chain restaurants you will be much more pleased. Blue ribbon or bond st if you want to ball or just go to any random sushi bar it would be just as good.
