Great place to get bagels. I got the egg salad bagel and the wife got a French toast bagel with egg and bacon. The bagels are very good and this is one of the best places in New York to get bagels.

We were curious if the east side branch of Tompkins Square Bagels woukd ever open, however after months of delays, they finally opened and eithin hours it’s become the go to place for delicious bagels withsn extraordinary selection of exotic cream cheeses! They aldo have an outdoor backyard patio which is very unique and welcoming in this neighborhood!

K
Kaithlyn Perez

The food is amazing. On top of that the staff is always so welcoming and kind 🫶🏼. Seating outside in the back that’s heated during the colder months.

This is my go-to spot for bagels and sandwiches now. I used to live near the one in the East Village but never had the opportunity to try it, but now that TSQ opened up here in the UES, I'll definitely be coming back every week! I've tried the El Cholo (on a whole wheat) and Brisket, Egg, Cheese bagels so far. The el cholo is my favorite— the braised pork is perfect and tender, and the chipotle mayo adds a good amount of spice. I'd prefer if there was less chipotle mayo on mine but still a very good bagel sando. Also, the staff are all so kind!

I can say with full confidence that this is now my favorite bagel shop in the UES. First, they have a great service and are pretty quick. They have plenty of sandwich options. I ordered the Koch that comes with pastrami and scallion cream cheese. Another very good point is that they have a patio with plenty of sitting options. Finding a breakfast place with sitting is not easy in our neighborhood.

Melanie Echeverry

10/10 so many vegan options so friendly great spot with lots of chair on the patio will be coming here everyday!!! My new obsession! Came with my boyfriend and he loved too.

My new favorite bagel spot on the UES! It’s already popular so you might have to wait but it’s worth it. They have a great selection of tasty bagels and a variety of shmears. On my past two visits I’ve been trying their sandwiches and they are amazing! For breakfast, their breakfast burrito and weezer are both some of the best I’ve had. They’ve also got a decent amount of seating in the back. I’ll be coming back here often.

M

Didn’t get the servers name but they went above and beyond for us & our dietary requirements 🙌🏼 not only that the bagels were amazing! Not from NYC but we went 3 times in the 9 days so that must say something! 😂

So happy my favorite bagel shop came uptown! I love all the options they provide whether it’s specialty sandwiches or make your own. Highly recommend the stutto 🤌🏼

A whopping bagel at 6.09oz for $1.95. The bagels have the same quality as their other locations— dense, pillowy, soft, and flavorful. This new spot is welcomed in the UES and is going to be staple for me now. The line is bustling on the weekends and there is a dining area in the back but almost impossible to get a spot because people annoyingly save spaces before getting their bagels… a few spots inside and standing space, along with 2 tables outside.

Great place, I came for the egg everything bagel and vegan cream cheese option. This place is perfect because it is dairy free and gluten free friendly. The bagel was so good I finished the whole thing in one sitting. I ordered online and picked up in store which made the experience so seamless and easy!

Tried the new UES Tompkins sq bagels at 7:00am. Immediately greeted by friendly staff who took my order and suggested the bacon / scallion and lox spreads. There are plenty of various spreads to try. The place is very spacious with a nice back patio. We enjoyed the warm cinnamon raisin bagel and everything bagel. Fresh, chewy, and full of flavor. Great addition to the UES. Will be going back soon.

B
Big Marvel and Chicken

I got an egg everything bagel with lox spread, cucumbers and onions. The bagel was perfect, crisp outside and chewy in the inside. It tasted amazing and I could tell that it was freshly made. The lox spread however, was lacking in both quantity and lox pieces. It tasted almost like regular cream cheese which I think is a little unfair for the price point. The service was good and swift, I was in and out in about 5 minutes!

Always reliable! It was my first time in this location in the UES and I brought some family visiting from outside the US. We all loved it! I normally take out of towners to Tompkins Square Bagels because I know the bagels are great.

I usually come to this location on the weekends I notice every time I come the guy with the glasses makes my sandwich amazing . I believe his name is Jared I been lucky it’s been 3 weekends in a row he has made my order and it’s the best sandwich I have ever had. Every time I come I hope he is there to make my sandwich again . I order the grieve sandwich and the stutto. He always does the perfect amount on the stutto. I will be brining back my colleagues to recommend Jared sense he makes the best sandwich . The only down fall I will say is I wish everyone wore name tags . The only thing missing on this store is more selective energy drinks . (MONSTERS RED BULLS) would be nice

Everyone is always so friendly and attentive. I receive amazing service every time I come here. Oh and the bagels are amazing! I have celiac disease and they offer a wide variety of GF options. 10/10 definitely recommend ◡̈

So this is my go to spot when in NYC. But not only is the food AMAZING but the staff are so so incredibly friendly which is not always the case in Manhattan. This was extra special experience bc this man Gio asked me what I ordered and said it was a great choice. I told him I had been there many times and he said I’m going to get you something. When we were at the register he handed us a box and it had a French toast bagel with triple berry cream cheese on one side and birthday cake on the other. It was 1000000/10. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. He was incredibly sweet. The bagels and cream cheese are absolutely out of this world. Thank you again GIO!!! 💕💕

Loved this place! The bagels were super fresh, we had cinnamon raisin and everything with veggie cream cheese, and the cream cheese tasted like it was made fresh with chopped veggies. The caramel latte (extra hot) was perfect. The staff was amazing, and the space was clean, colorful, and happy. Huge thanks to Matthew for being so welcoming and friendly. Everyone was so nice- we can’t wait to come back!

Found this bagel shop while scrolling through Apple Maps. I didn't see it among the social media recommendations but it deserves the attention! The cheese pull on the bacon, egg, and cheese was amazingly satisfying and delicious. They do not skimp on the smears either. The hot chocolate was perfect to warm up on a cold New York day.

My first impression of Tompkins Square bagels was a line that stretched for eons along the frigid streets of New York. I held skepticism toward the reputation of this establishment, thinking it another foolish trap for gulling tourists. Yet the line moved with swiftness, considering its length, and before we knew it, my companions and I bagged our bagels with haste. But when I did request my much-needed coffee, I waited what seem'd like years whilst the employees dilly-dallied in the back. More disappointing still, I was forced to ask thrice before they began in earnest to brew the latte. After this long coffee wait, my companions and I set forth to Central Park with bagels and steaming cups in hand—and, upon a sip, I found this to be the vilest coffee ever to pass my lips. I could make better brew in dreams, with broken arms and eyes fast closed. What sorcery is this? How makest thou a peppermint latte—the very notion sounds heavenly!—to taste like milk gone sour? My doubts did heighten, my hope did plummet. Sitting upon a park bench, I did expect the worst. Then took I a bite of mine order—Apple Cinnamon cream cheese upon a sourdough bagel—and never had I known what heaven tasted like until that moment. It overflowed with flavour, all in perfect harmony—the bagel itself was even majestic. I could speak on, I could write an essay on the virtues found, mine eyes open'd to sudden possibilities this world might offer—all from this bagel, but I shall not continue. Forget the coffee. Tompkins Square Bagels did make amends swiftly. Well saved, Tompkins; I shall return to once more savour the delectableness of this cream cheese. I thank thee. (Edit: I went back today, and my coffee was immaculate. The man taking my order was incredibly kind and gave my companion a free bagel for her birthday. Service is now updated to five stars.)

THE BEST EXPERIENCE GETTING MY BAGELS! THE STAFF HERE ARE AMAZING and VERY HELPFUL IN RECOMMENDING FLAVORS! Really appreciate them and their BIG SMILES 💕💕💕

If Tomkins doesn't have a spread for you, no bagel place will.... OMG AMAZING! The hand-rolled, kettle-boiled bagels are PERFECT! With the Egg Bagel being my favorite. You just can't go wrong here!! 😋🥰

This was my first NYC bagel shop I’ve been in, so I was overwhelmed with all of my choices. There were plenty of employees there that were happy to help me with all of my questions. I ended up asking for whatever was freshest, which they told me they had a batch of raisin coming out in 10 minutes. I waited and it was definitely worth it. It was delicious and fairly priced. The scallion and bacon cream cheese perfectly complimented the sweetness of the raisins.

We ate breakfast 3 times on our NYC visit and all were at Tompkins (plus we took a dozen bagels home with us)! We loved their vegan breakfast options, our favorite being the Beyond Delight (we loved how the Just egg was prepared and really enjoyed the Stockeld cheese). Great coffee as well. We visited the Upper East Side twice and Union Square once. UES had more seating options and was less crowded. Staff were exceptionally friendly at both shops. Such a great start to our days visiting NYC and now very fond memories - Thank You Tompkins!

So so good!! What a treat! I went on New Year's day after walking by many times in the last month and always seeing it filled with people (a good sign!). The staff was amazing! They kept the line moving and went above and beyond to make me feel valued as a customer. It has that small business feel rather than a corporate feel. Jonas took my order and was so kind! Thank you for your great service! It made my day. The bagel was incredible (I had sesame) and I like that they have so many choices! (Including multiple vegan cream cheese choices.) Way way better than Pop Up bagels -- don't even waste your time on Pop Up!

My experience from start to finish was phenomenal. I was in town for my birthday with my twin brother that we dont usually get to spend together. The staff went out of their way to make sure we felt special. Kindness is alive and well in new york city. The bagel sandwiches were filling and delicious. There was a line but thats irrelevant because they produced the orders so fast. Great atmosphere and a wonderful working staff. Highly recommend.

Neighbourhood customer. The bagels are good but sadly hit and miss with the toppings and execution. Wish there was consistency so that you don’t have to open bagels like this.

Stopped by Tompkins Square Bagels and tried the Eastsider—a creative twist on the classic bacon, egg, and cheese that swaps in tender, smoky brisket. The brisket added a rich, savory depth that made the sandwich feel extra hearty, and the bagel itself was fresh, chewy, and perfectly toasted. The shop has that classic New York bagel energy—busy but friendly—and the staff kept things moving quickly despite the line. Prices are a bit on the higher side, but the quality makes it feel like a treat worth having once in a while. Definitely worth trying the Eastsider if you want a unique take on a breakfast favorite.

Ordered two basic bagel sandwiches and waited well over 20 mins. Plenty of ppl coming way later than me getting orders filled before me so idk what the hold up was.

Tompkins Square Bagels on the Upper East Side is truly one of my favorite morning stops. The moment you walk in you are greeted with a smile. The staff behind the register is amazing, patient, and welcoming. One of the managers, Matthew, is especially great. He is always informative, helpful, and professional. You can tell the whole team works hard to give customers a good experience. The bagels are always fresh, the coffee is hot, and the selection of cream cheeses and sandwiches is outstanding. It is the perfect place to stop before work to enjoy a warm toasted bagel and a great breakfast. The only ongoing concern is that some customers still ignore the clearly posted “No Pets Allowed” rule. I understand that people love their pets and may be out running errands with them, but a food establishment should remain a pet free space for the comfort and safety of everyone. There is a time and place for pets, and inside a restaurant or food service area is not one of them. As someone with allergies, it can be discouraging and uncomfortable to stand in a small shop with animals present. Even if the wait is only two minutes or ten minutes, no customer should have to compromise their health or comfort because others choose not to follow a simple rule. The signs are large and placed throughout the store, yet some customers still disregard them. The staff does what they can, and this issue is not a reflection on them at all. Overall, this location is wonderful and I will continue to support it. I just hope the pet policy can be respected a bit more so that everyone can enjoy their experience comfortably and safely.

We walked by the new location for Tompkins Square Bagels and went inside to look around. All the food is up front nicely displayed. Walk to the back and pass the kitchen and there is a huge outdoor sitting area with ample seating. Very nice setup. We will definitely be back for food. Back again today on way uptown for Dr appt. Ordered WW bagel with tofu scallion CC. And of course a decaf Americano. Both very good. Will come again. Stopped agin on the way home from doctor appointment uptown. Got a regular coffee and a whole wheat bagel with cucumber and dill cream cheese. Really delicious. Bagels are better than at other bagel shops.

Overall, a good value bagels shop. I was skeptical of the restaurant given the review score and the long line of young folks, suggesting trending vs genuine popularity. Fortunately, the value of what we got for the price was very good. My wife got a roast beef bagel and I got the lox with basil dill schmear with a cold brew coffee. The bagels themselves were good but not great (more consistent vs varied texture in inside of bagel vs outside), although the sandwich component made up for that. I liked how the salmon was actually smoked and very fresh vs other bagel shops that have better bagels but lower quality salmon. The roast beef was good too. The bagels are well sized and there is no skimping on sandwich contents. The cold brew was good/great quality for the $5 price. It was not diluted at all and they did not try to decreasing serving size by overdoing it on ice. Atmosphere was good. We could not get a table, but eventually got a spot at a counter. Overall, I’d be willing to come back here, which is a pretty strong compliment. I am giving 4 stars vs 5 stars due to the bagels themselves being of lower quality than other places we’ve been, though this is still a great place to visit snd not an insult at all. I have high standards. I may up it to 5 if I try another bagel and the texture issue resolves itself. The value of what you get for the price is strongly matched, maybe a bit more valuable foodie experience vs the price.

I have always wanted to try their bagel, but I’ve been lazy to go downtown. Good thing they opened one in UES. It’s a nice location with clean store front. However, for some reason, water was dripping constantly from the ceiling by the kitchen. It’s nice that they have an open kitchen, and was able to see them boiling and baking the bagels. Watching them frying eggs and putting sandwiches together. First, you will have to wait in line, and someone comes over to take the order and put it down on a piece of paper. Then, you hold on to that paper and wait some more to pay. Lastly, wait some more for them to call your name to pick up your order. The whole process seems redundant and ridiculous, but I did manage to get my bagel in 10 minutes or so. I guess they know what they are doing. Side note, the person taking orders was rude. I got a poppyseed bagel, toasted, with lox, plain cream cheese and capers. The bagel was great. It had good texture, and covered with poppyseed, as it should be. The lox was okay. Their lox was presliced in the fridge. I do see that they have some interesting flavors of lox, like maple bourbon. Maybe I’ll try that next time. Although the Nova was a bit fishier than usual. The caper gave it a nice salty and tangy flavor. I should have tried other flavors of cream cheese. Horseradish and dill/cucumber sounds like a good pair with lox. Overall, it was a nice bagel. Not my favorite spot, but it will do.

Best breakfast sandwich (in 🥯) that I have ever had in my life. Staff will come up to you to take the order and you pay with the piece of paper with your order. Then wait for your name to be called. We had a savoury sandwich & a blueberry cream cheese bagel. They are breakfast sandwich with avocado and egg white was magical, blueberry cc bagel was okay I wish I chose a different bagel. (Sorry about no pic of the bagel- we finished them very quickly)🤪

Tompkins Square Bagels quickly became one of our favorite bagel spots in NYC. The line was long when we arrived, but it moved efficiently since they take your order while you’re still in line. By the time we got to the counter, our bagels were ready, which was a nice touch. The bagels themselves were fresh, flavorful, and generously filled. Overall a great experience, and definitely a place we’d come back to on future trips. They have a small area/terrace in the back where you can eat your bagels.

Love that a Tompkins Square Bagels popped up in my neighborhood! The bagels are pretty decent - I would say maybe not as fluffy as some of the other bagels I tried but still quite good. I feel like what you're coming here for are the specialty cream cheese flavors and sandwiches. I definitely have a sweet tooth so I've tried a few of the cream cheeses but their list is so expansive so I have many more to try! Big fan of the cookie dough cream cheese. Their sandwiches look great too but I haven't had the chance to try them yet - I'll be sure to report back. On a busy morning the wait can be a little long but their order-taking process is pretty efficient - just note you need to order your drink or other bakery items separately when paying for your bagel at the end.

Ordered two basic bagel sandwiches and waited well over 20 mins. Plenty of ppl coming way later than me getting orders filled before me so idk what the hold up was.

Flat dense bagel, goopy whipped cream cheese. No springy texture. Like eating cream cheese sandwiched toast, that was. Decent seating in back and efficient enough service.

When they’re good, these bagels are pretty solid for new york standards, but unfortunately this place really struggles with consistency. I picked up a dozen bagels this morning. As is often the case, the bagels were not cooked properly. They hadn’t risen properly and they were undercooked, so the result is a short, small, and doughy bagel that loses its shape when you cut it in half. I get that this place is relatively new, but this is pretty important for a bagel place to get right.

Came here at 7am and egg bagel was hard as a rock. Overrated, better options in the area.

Waited 30 minutes after our scheduled pickup time to get our 2 bagels. So many places in NYC to grab a good bagel, no point in wasting 30 minutes of your weekend for this place. If you lined their bagels up with any half decent spot you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. This is one of those “sheeple” spots where people go just for the name.

I’ve been to this bagel shop about four times now, and I have to say—the bagels are really good. Fresh, flavorful, and they hold up well even a couple of days later. The cream cheeses are out of this world, especially the fig and cream cheese, which is just outstanding. Their bagel sandwiches are also delicious and definitely worth trying. My go-to has been plain and sesame bagels, and they’ve always been consistently tasty. That being said, the price point feels hard to justify. A blueberry bagel at more than $5 is a stretch—you’ve got to stay in touch with reality, especially in a neighborhood with plenty of options. But what really struck me is the wait time. Ordering online, it once took 45 minutes just to get two plain, untoasted bagels with a quarter spread of cream cheese. That kind of wait makes it difficult to keep coming back. This shop has a great product, but if they want to keep up with demand in Manhattan, they’ll need to find a smarter and more efficient way to handle orders. After all, if I walk just two blocks over, I can get a bagel in under five minutes. Even if the quality isn’t quite the same, my time is valuable—especially in a city that never sleeps.

I’ve been to this shop four times now, and each time we’ve had an issue. The first time our order was incorrect, the second time they forgot about our order/lost the ticket altogether and we had to go up and say something. The third time we did mobile order, they lost our ticket and left bacon off both sandwiches ($8), and the last time they completely forgot a bagel. It’s good food, but it’s so unorganized. For the price, and the fact that this isn’t their first location, it’s disappointing.

As a loyal customer of the original Tompkins Square Bagels in the east village for years, I was thrilled to learn a location was opening in the UES. I have waited a long time to write this review in the hopes that my experiences at the new location were isolated. However after a strong enough sample size of 12-15 visits, the verdict is clear and my negative experiences appear to be the norm and not an anomaly. Unfortunately the new UES location has failed in living up to the Tompkins Square Bagels reputation primarily due to the quality of service. Of the dozen or so times I have been to this location since it opened, all but 1 or 2 visits have been plagued by: the wrong order being given to me, confusion at the registers causing long wait lines, order takers providing incorrect information about what kind of spreads were available, and/or absurdly long wait times to receive simple orders such as plain bagel (not toasted) with plain cream cheese. It is a complete and overall failure in terms of service at every point. The employees’ confused demeanor and lack of attentiveness make it feel as though it is still the shop’s opening week, even though it’s been open for months now. Now that it is essentially a certainty that something will go wrong if I set foot into this shop (a long wait line when it’s not crowded, the wrong cream cheese on my bagel, etc), I have been woefully driven to start getting my bagels at Ouri’s (a grocery store of all places!) across the street. Sincerely, Disappointed

They took my order, then I waited about 15mins for them to realize no one made my order!! People came and went and all got their sandwiches but I was left standing there.... the guy was nice who made my sandwich but it's unacceptable for a wait 15+ minute for a cold sandwich.... i will not be back. No one was even inside, mind you, they were far from busy...what did I pre tip 15% for? For workers to stand around, talking and to not work. Got it. Also, just opened the sandwich and they did not even bother to pat the bacon dry from the excessive amount of oil... this is a disgusting sandwich with a dry BURNT inedible bagel..would love a refund because this is disgusting!! Also, learn how to cook bacon properly. Its half raw and half almost rock hard. And then one section of the bagel was not even toasted at all! Lol this place is a disaster

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, IF YOU WANT TO RECEIVE WHAT YOU ORDERED, DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE. I am not kidding, they have botched every order I have placed, no bacon on bacon egg and cheese (paid for extra bacon), before that, I asked for hot sauce and they just soaked it, literally like trying to eat bread soaked in vinegar. They simply do not care to prepare things correctly, you need to be there in person and hold their hand while they make your order if you want it done correctly.

I just left the store, highly disappointed and feeling robbed off. I don't mind paying high price for good quality product, but this was not the case. I asked for a sesame bagel with pastrami salmon, that overall cost 20$, I got a cinamon bagel with cream cheese. Overpriced for what you get!!!! This was my first experience there, and it will be my last. I do not recommend this place, there are plenty other bagel shops cheaper and tasting better and filling properly the sandwiches.
