Seriously delicious burritos. Great staff, the owner is a sweetheart, and they have really good priced dates. One of our go-to places in Imperial Valley.

Not bad, Burrito is a little greasy and smaller than I expected, but the fried onions was delicious! An it hit the spot, I was starving!

I took my photography masterclass to Salvation Mountain and we went for dinner and breakfast here. Fresh food made with love - and the most lovely hosts. We would always make this our prime choice to go when in the area.

It is delicious. And the portions are nice and big. Amazing. Really has authentic mexican dishes. You have to stop by. 10/10 #TastesLikeGrandmas/Mamascooking#HiddenGem

super friendly and a nice place to cool off and fill you belly, the Mexican food is ao good a real hidden gem. my favorite thing is the chili relleno and chili verde mixed in one burrito, its not on the menu but they will make it. and wash id down with a agua da pina which is pineapple water so good or an Arnold palmer

Vicky and crew at the Buckshot go out of their way to make you feel at home! Good old fashioned food, nothing fancy, but plenty to fill you up! I enjoy the locals that I've come to know while enjoying my coffee!

Hard to argue with what I believe is the only sit down restaurant between Coachella and Calipatria. I had a breakfast burrito, which was made with beans which is a little unusual, but the beans were delicious and the whole burrito was great.

Had the meatball soup, excellent flavor. Rest of party had hamburgers which were huge m delicious. Good place to stop when going thru Brawley. We've been stopping here on camping trips to Glamis for years. Never had a bad meal

At first glance you'll think to yourself, no way am I eating there, then you'll walk inside and think the same thing again, then if you happen to go the bathroom, which is detached from the restaurant, you'll think, let's go...... but...... this place is great, seriously good food. It was incredibly fresh tasting salsa and just all around great, all at very reasonable prices. Don't pass this place up, besides it's the only food around. #justdoit

What a find!! Not a fancy place but the food is so good. Really homemade Mexican food and other items like burgers. Family owned and they are very friendly. You have to stop in when you are in the area. You won't be dissapointed.

I stayed in the area for a few days on a long road trip, and had to take some video meetings for work. Buckshot was a great place to have a mostly air-conditioned, relatively quiet corner seat for my whole workday, with access to solid wifi to boot. I had 3 giant yummy horchatas, plus other drinks and food throughout my workday. Really important (and tasty) for staying hydrated out in this heat. It seems like not many people come through here to work on laptops, but it’s possible, and staff were helpful and considerate to me. Just be sure to order a few things, double-check the hours (they closed a few hours before the time posted on Google), and leave a generous tip. It is the only spot in town, after all. The space is well-cared for, including the bathroom, which is 1 non-gendered single-person bathroom (for customers only). I’m sure I’ll be back at some point.

FANTASTIC FOOD and very friendly service! Possibly the best carne asada burrito I've ever had in my life. Huge menu with lots of options. This place is a perfect little oasis in the middle of nowhere.

Ruben, the owner, his wife, and staff are super sweet and provide excellent service. This little place has so much charm, and has mouthwatering delicious food. My husband and I ate lunch and dinner here 2 days in a row. A hidden gem in the desert.

T

A surprisingly good little diner out in the middle of the desert. The food was solid, fast, and good....everything I tasted from my plate and out groups. I shared a basket of fries and either everyone at the table was ravenous or they were really hitting the spot because they were gone in an instant. Teenagers...probably stiffed some in their pockets. Beer was exceptionally cold. Hurray!

D
David X

It is the only diner in town. I thought the food was fresh and delicious. If you're in a rush don't go at breakfast, lunch or dinner because the place is packed. I mean to say, go but expect to have a very social meal. The atmosphere is great in a perfect place to schmooze with the locals.

C

A little gem in the desert … friendly service, delicious food (the tomatillo sauce FTW!!!), and full of funky fun charm. And: a chance to support a local small business! ❤️🙌🏼❤️

What a great place, run by really sweet people! I love chimis & try them everywhere we travel, but didn't see one on the menu... our waitress was happy to ask anyway, & it came out insanely good...even looked better than any other! Normally a chimi just has cheese all over with some greens & sour cream on the side... but hers was like artwork! Presentation was like I imagine some uppity world-class chef would be smug about, but this kind lady came out & thanked me for the praise... That just doesn't happen. The owner (I think? Maybe family owned?) came to check with us several times, and service was perfect. My wife says the chicken tacos were the best she's ever had, which I can't begin to tell ya how impressive that response is. There are plenty of fancy places out there with expensive decorations & hip names or all types of distractions that will sell you an "experience", with mediocre food with poor service. Experience great food & service for a change... EAT HERE instead.

Another gem in the middle of nowhere. I was in the area for a month and only visited this place a few days before leaving. Unfortunately I only had one meal here. The people that run it are super nice and the quesabirria was fantastic. I would definitely come back here if in the area.

C

The service was great and the staff was very hospitable and friendly, very extensive menu and the meal arrived at your table in record time and was temperature hot just the way my wife and I liked it. My wife and I shared the Chile Verde not because the portion was small but because it was enough for two and we enjoyed every morsel of it and I highly recommend this restaurant.

This place was recommended to me by the owner of the Motel by the Sea and it was well worth the drive! Best huevos rancheros I've ever had and I'm from Phx, so it's not like I haven't had them before. Also, the hash browns were made in a way that is hard to find and cooked to perfection. Fantastic experience!

Best burger I've had in years. Didn't look like much but man, oh man. As for the cheesecake - well, we came back the next morning and had some for breakfast, too. Friendly place. Great sense of humor. Lots of laughs. Loved it.

Wasn’t sure what the only full service restaurant for miles would be like, but we were pleasantly surprised!! Very sweet service and the food was YUMMY! I got huevos rancheros - honestly some of the best I’ve ever had! The salsa verde on the side is the move! Will come again! Gracias Benito and Vicky! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

After a long day driving, this place really hit the spot. I got a burger, which was as good as any craft burger you overpay for at some hipster place. But the real treat was the chili fries. This is real, honest-to-god chili with plenty of beef and a good hearty flavor. Also, if they have potato salad available as a side, do yourself a favor and get it.

L

This is a great little ma and pa type of restaurant with a wonderful 1950's diner feel to it. There were a lot of options to choose from in the menu. We loved that they brought out delicious tortilla chips with salsa when we first got there. We ended up sharing the carne asada plate for lunch, and it easily fed the 2 of us with a large glass of iced tea. The meal was nicely presented on the platter and it was simply delicious!!!! The staff were super friendly and helpful to us coming from northern Canada being unfamiliar with real Mexican dishes. This ended up being our favorite and most memorable restaurant during our recent 2 week trip to the Palm Springs area.

Nice little country cafe in Niland. We went there after spending a few hours at Salvation Mountain nearby. Very good tasting food, well sized portions, and our server was super pleasant and helpful. She answered a lot of our questions about the area. Always like stopping here when passing through Niland. The locals are really nice and talkative. Very friendly.

Best and only place in town. Seriously though. It's great after a day of drinking or the morning after a night of drinking. The meatloaf is bomb, the sandwiches are good, everything is good really. Been going every year for several years, one of the places I miss most about California. Little motel next door is great!

S

This is very good! The pineapple juice was very sweet and fresh! I ate Today's menue which is cooked with pork! It was so Mexican! Food that tastes very good to me! But if you are unfamiliar with pig rinds, ask the owner and order another menu!

First I want to say that this is a great place. The food is wonderful. My husband had the Carne Asada Plate. He absolutely loved it!! I had the taquitos. And definitely did not disappoint. If you are coming thru the old 111 along the salton and you don’t stop at the buckshot, then you are missing the best food stop on the entire stretch. Located in Niland, CA Discovered this little hole in the wall April 2024 as w were passing though the town. This is our 2nd time eating here and if I lived closer I’d eat here more often. The food is delicious and authentic. The owners, cook, and server are the nicest people. There were 4 of us this visit and we had: bistek ranchero, shrimp tacos, and the carne asada torta. Every thing was fresh, seasoned well, and served hot. The meat was tender. You just gotta stop in. You won’t regret it.

this is a road-side cafe that boasts really good Mexican and American food. We were taken aback as we arrived, because it was 11:15 and it was empty. within 15 minutes the locals began to appear, and understandably so. the food is well prepared and the menu is varied. The tacos were really tasty, my wife really enjoyed her burger. It is also the only place to eat for miles and miles, so it's a relief that it is such a solid choice. I would stop again. but, we've seen the Salton Sea and enjoyed seeing all of the irrigated orchards and fields. I'm not sure I would feel compelled to visit again.

I came in after visiting slab city, The “lawless city” around march 25. After enjoying a 30$ meal my girlfriend and I got slipped a 80$ bill and the staff played a “joke“ saying “we’re the only restaurant in town what you gonna do about it.” You guys really had me fooled and not in the good way. I mean, Bud if you would have played the joke for 30 seconds to 1 minute longer I was going to strike you in the face or worse. If you have cameras you will see me inch my knife out of my pocket and grip it with ill intent as we argue about the bill at the desk. I was under the impression you were extorting me and I was getting stressed and going into fight/flight mode in a lawless city. Thank you for not continuing the joke. I said “are you extorting me !?” And I was laughing but please remember , psychopaths laugh when they stress and think bad thoughts. Overall review: the food was decent , wasn’t bad at all and your service was cool, Just the end shook my cage.

Nice little diner in the desert with a friendly staff. The chips/salsa were surprisingly good as were the carne asada chili cheese fries. Will definitely be back on our next venture to the Salton Sea.

R

Seriously, good food! Not much on atmosphere, though they fit right in to the surrounding, kinda swampy, desert beach vibe, small town Americana. Something out of an old black and white Twilight Zone episode. Stuffed ducks hanging and all. Fantastic Mex food, a specialty, ...pork verde, amazing, juicy, melt in you're mouth! Huge soup bowl followed by a decent price for all the food you got. Pictures are of surrounding area.

K

Making our way from the Salton Sea to Salvation Mountain, we stopped at this local Niland diner. It was everything you would expect. Waitress was friendly and the starter chips n salsa were very good. A pretty good selection of comfort food to choose from at reasonable prices. I got the Chili Size open faced burger. A lot of food and it was pretty tasty!

T
TheOnenOnly Plantz

Love eating at a sketchy looking place in a sketchy town. Can't say I'd go back, but it was probably the best place to eat at in Slab City. Torta was good, one waitress was nice, the other short and not so helpful. It was like a Mexican waffle house come to think of it.

B
Bachaus Maximus

Try it you won't be disappointed, I will eat here again. Buckshot Cafe is an old building in Niland and looks almost scary from the outside at night. Niland is very small and I think this is the only place to eat. We went there after visiting Slab City. The food was surprisingly good, the staff was very friendly and service was good. Prices are as expected in an out of the way location. They let us order even though it was close to closing. We were never rushed and they let us relax after closing. A friendly family runolace. We even got a local history lesson from the owner after we asked dome questions. Definitely eat here.

Slow service, but only place to eat in town & you'll get away from the heat. I got a kick out of the cross culture... ordering Mexican food is your best bet; nothing is served with cheese

S
Slabout Shane Tennent

The food is OK, but nothing special. It is the only restaurant for 12 miles, so choices are slim. Prices are a little high, $10 for a cheeseburger plate.

E
Eric Joseph

Niland, it's a backwater town that has seen better days and the same could be said for this hole in the wall dive. Without overstating the obvious I wouldn't order anything remotely "American ",(like just plain pancakes for instance). The Mexican food is ok but the food prices are a bit too steep for what you get. I once ordered 2 pancakes w/ 2 strips of bacon and 2 eggs, and that cost me over 15 dollars + the tip... If you can hold out to the next closest dinner then I would suggest you do so, if not then you've been warned.

F

If you didn't pack your lunch for your trip to Salvation Mountain then guess what this is pretty much it for your choice of a restaurant for many miles. Had the open face sandwich the first time I dined here and man was it salty. Just like the Salton Sea near by. Second time around tried a plain old burger thinking how could you mess up a burger and I was wrong. It was plainer than plain. I can say the the tortilla and salsa they served as comp was good. Also the Lemonade was good. Your other choices for food other than Buck Shot Restaurant would be a minimart down the block or a gas station quarter a mile away. Don't let this discourage you to visit Salvation Mountain. For that matter the Restaurant too. The service was good.

Stopped here after going to Slab city, reviews were good. After ordering 2 hamburgers we waited around 40 minutes for them. Not for sure what the issue was but there was only 1 order before us, however burgers and fries were hot and very good...

Pricey, but large portions. Too much salt. Their meat has amazing flavor. Many dishes are served with a side of rice and beans. Traditionally, these would be covered with queso, but they cover theirs in plain white cheese of questionable origin, possibly cojita. The rice tasted bland. Overall pretty good food.

The Mexican food was just okay, but I heard other people raving about their burgers (after we had already eaten).

During our recent visit to Buckshot Deli and Diner in Niland, CA, we encountered a blend of positives and negatives. The greeting we received was warm, featuring friendly smiles from the staff. However, the ambiance was more akin to a small-town, mom-and-pop restaurant rather than a typical deli or diner. Our order included specials like fish tacos and shrimp tacos, as well as a classic BLT from their standard menu. The food quality was mediocre – not terrible, but not impressive either. The fish tacos were notably bland, and the fries accompanying the BLT were undercooked. The pricing struck us as excessive, particularly $3.50 for a can of soda, which seemed like price gouging. On a positive note, the staff maintained a pleasant demeanor, engaging in light-hearted conversations with us and allowing for a comfortable dining experience. Their friendly interaction was a highlight of our visit. Buckshot Deli and Diner is suitable for a quick, no-fuss meal, especially if you're in a pinch. While the food and prices didn't quite meet our expectations, the amiable staff and casual atmosphere could make it a decent stop for a simple meal.

Wanted to like this place more but the burrito was only alright, they forgot to not include beans on my dish, and bathrooms were really dirty. Still, I loved the vibe and the menu had something for everyone. Also the staff were very nice and the horchata was delicious.

Stopped while in the area. I ordered an open face turkey sandwich which was simply sliced luncheon turkey on white bread with a gravy I’m pretty sure came out of a bottle. It came with mashed potatoes which weren’t fully cooked so had several hard crunch pieces in it. Wife ordered a chicken burrito which she said was very dry and the chicken was very tough and chewey. We both left a fair amount behind. 1 waiter did a decent job but food took a very long time to come out. Always try to check and support the local businesses. Wanted to like it, but can’t recommend it.

Service was great. BUT, it wasn't a $15 dinner. The "hamburger" was over cooked, tough, chewy. The blue cheese dressing was watered down. The coffee was the most enjoyable part of my dinner.

I ate here about 6 months ago and the food was excellent so when in the area again I brought some friends here but this time the food was terrible! We all ordered chicken enchiladas and they were horribly burned but then covered up with sauce to try to hide it. They tasted horrible. We would have sent them back but we were in a hurry to get somewhere. I was so disappointed and my friends will surely never come back.

The only thing good about this place was the friendly staff. Patty melt sucked. Not sure it was even ground beef. Meat was unidentifiable, fries cooked in old oil, same with chips. Yep dogs in Cafe while we were eating. Not service dogs.

Ordered 3 enchilada meal to go. Does not tell in menu which sauce. I think it was mole, which I'm not fond of, but they also tasted burnt. The enchiladas were terrible. Beans and rice mediocre. Husband had carne asada cheese fries, they had good amount of carne asada, but very little cheese. I feel very sick to my stomach from eating their food.

Dined here after stopping by Salvation Mountain on what seemed to be a 100F day in early April 2022. The food was alright and the people who worked there were friendly. However, when it was time to get the check, (thank goodness I took a closer look), the total came up to about $60, when we had only ordered 2 sets of fish tacos and 1 drink. After I had enquired about this, along came a server with what looked like a mousetrap with the words "Complaint Department" written on it. I just thought it was really bizarre. It's ok to crack jokes, but not when it involves money. What would have happened if I had not checked? I would have ended up paying more than double the cost of my meal. I don't usually write reviews but I think I have a duty to let potential diners know about my experience. Do not blindly pay for your meal without making sure you're paying for what you had ordered.

Their online menu has Western Bacon Cheeseburger with fries for $10.99. I ordered it in the restaurant and they charged me $16.19. That burger was not on their in house menu, but they did give it to me. I told them about their online menu pricing and they denied me that price. I won't be back. Don't trust their online menu.
