Came here for lunch with my boyfriend and we both loved our meals. I had lobster ravioli and he had the lobster roll + bacon and they were both incredible! I highly recommend sitting outside by the water for the best experience! So peaceful and relaxing
My son and I came here the first week of August 2025 while we were in town, wandering around the shops. We sat outside on the patio. The ambiance was pleasant, and view, serene. The warm sun shined down on us as we chilled under the umbrella in the low 80’s and blue sky weather. Our server Sarah was excellent. She was pleasant, professional, and attentive. The food was very good. A few summery beverages, some RI Clam Cakes (a RI Tradition) with delicious tartar sauce, and the Tavern Burgers were really good! We ate it all! Sadly, there was no room for dessert. But we will be back again!! If you are looking for a quaint, easy to get around town on foot, shops, and restaurants, then Wickford is a nice place to swing by. And for the price, setting, service, and offering, Tavern by the Sea is worth a visit.
We were here our last night of vacation in Narragansett, and this was my favorite meal by far. We got there before the usual dinner time rush, so our experience might be a bit different than others, but it was still great. Truly exceptional Santorini octopus, and the lobster rangoons were excellent. I was especially happy with the octopus; it was not rubbery or chewy, but perfectly charred and tender. Lovely atmosphere by the water, and solid cocktails, to boot. I look forward to coming back the next time we’re in the area.
I did not realize just how seasonal Tavern By The Sea is! It seems that there are indoor dining spaces in the restaurant, but a majority of the seating is outside. If you were around New England this winter, it felt like the ones we used to have. Tavern By The Sea would have spent an inordinate amount of funds trying to keep warm, so it's good that they are open in the late Spring, Summer, and early Fall. We went on the weekend that they had opened up, and decided on dining in one of their interior dining spaces. The table was close to the bar and the server station. You could tell that the staff was getting ready for the busy-ness of the Summer season! The food is good. The gluten-free pasta dish was tasty, the burger was, too. The fries that come with the burger were substantial. Their Caesar salad was well put together! I think that this restaurant is an awesome place to take in this little bitty coastal village of Rhode Island. There might be a few other places within this "urban center," but I think Tavern By The Sea has a real feeling of comfort and style.
This is me and my girlfriend’s favorite spot for a great cocktail and delicious food, they never miss and the bartender Brittney is absolutely amazing and always gives the best service. Our classic is the White sangria and white sauce mussels. But this is a need to go to spot!!
Hands down, THE best lobster bisque that I have ever had. I am a lobster bisque foodie, and this was so good I ate it half a spoonful at a time, to make it last!! The rest of our meal and drinks were great, and the service and staff were super sweet too. Seriously recommend!!
My wife and I had a fantastic experience for lunch. We sat outside overlooking the pond. My wife had the Cajun tacos and I had the fish n' chips. Both plates were absolutely delicious and we ate every bite. The server was excellent, very timely, and friendly. Everything was clean. The unsweetened tea was wonderful. I will definitely be returning.
We wanted a nice experience near the water and this was great! The food was fantastic and the service would bring me back again and again. Highly recommend! Beautiful space with indoor and outdoor seating.
Wonderful dinner on the deck, despite pouring down rain. We stayed dry. Our server was a delight and very professional. Clam chowder was delicious, as was the pasta with beef ragu. Brie burger was prepared to perfection. Molten lava cake and apple blossom desserts were yummy too. Very pleasant atmosphere.
Wonderful restaurant! The food is amazing and the staff is friendly. Definitely recommend making a reservation because they get busy quickly. We had a reservation and were seated in a few minutes upon arrival. Over all really nice place and we plan to go again
Out with some friends. We came to Tavern by the sea. The food was excellent, and the staff took care of our every need, such professionals. We sat outside and enjoyed the fresh sea air. We will be back again, guaranteed!!
Sat at the outside bar and enjoyed some of the best calamari I’ve had in RI in years! Awesome wait staff here and fantastic drinks!
Food is excellent, beautiful atmosphere, great service ! Tavern by the sea has been a goto in my family for years , highly recommend.
Got a bit adventurous, ordered the Octopus Santorini... while I loved the presentation, I do not recommend ordering in company of "squeamish" folks LOL!!! Brooke, our server, was fantastic and all our food was exceptionally prepared... an amazing dining experience!!
Three of us from out of town had lunch there recently. The staff was very courteous and attentive. Relaxing environment and the meals ŵere brought in a reasonable time frame and sooner than expected. The crab cakes paired with the chowder were fantastic!! The others were very satisfied with their meals as well. Highly recommended, and we all hope to return soon.
We had a wonderful experience recently. We had an outdoor dinner with a group of 6 people, the hostess Lexie got us a fantastic table, with a great view and location. We had the calamari, a pitcher of sangria and I chose to have the Haddock Newburg which was fantastic. I highly recommend going here when the weather is beautiful.
This place is casual. It is by a small body of water connecting to the larger bay. The service is great, and the food is better than average. Good beer and cocktail selection. They are very dog friendly, and this was my favorite aspect. This is also a great little area to walk around before or after eating with shops, and things to do. Highly recommend.
Great little place! We stopped by for lunch recently and thoroughly enjoyed the meal. I had the Chicken Parmesan and my friend had the Garden Burger. Both were excellent, well prepared flavorful and pleasantly presented. The chicken parmesan was huge! Easily two meals. They have a lot of outdoor seating overlooking the river. The server was friendly and stopped by several times to check on us. They also have a large menu with a good selection of beer and wine. Prices are good considering that this is a tourist area. It was fairly busy on a Monday, so it could be crowded on a weekend day. They do take reservations. The parking lot is small, but there is a city parking lot across the street.
This place was recommended by a great friend of mine, and he was so right about this place. The people their are friendly, the food was just really good, the ambiance is even better.
Long been a favorite restaurant in Wickford. Food is great and service fast and friendly. Sorry I did not get our waitresses name but she was outstanding!
Very reliable place with a nice location that features both views of the water and a quiet pond in the rear. Servers are very pleasant and the food and drinks are tasty.
Had a wonderful lunch at Tavern by the Sea in Wickford, RI. We sat outdoors at a table with a water view. Food was delicious, service was great and atmosphere was amazing!
It was an enchanted place hiding on a little salt pond. The sunset was beautiful and the food was very good. Our waitress was attentive.
The view is great! The food even better! It's our little getaway for a romantic night out!
Many options on the menu with beautiful views of downtown wickford and the bay. Food is moderately priced and is really good. No complaints!
Hidden gem. First time here. Amazing service from Mark. Got the Cajun chicken penne. Wow. Will definitely be back. And they do take out if you're near by.
Stopped by for lunch today. The french onion soup, Cape Cod salad and key lime pie were delicious. Andre Andrew was very attentive
Had a great experience at tavern by the sea. I was unaware that they were closing soon and they still gave us great service. Sarah was great, aswell as the bartender and hostess. I would definitely recommend.
Pretty good little joint, decent mains toys expect, plus a couple of standouts. No problem changing up an order to make it GF.
Waitress was awesome. Good food. Fun drinks. Great seats everywhere.
Excellent food and service. Was seated out on the patio area near the water on a beautiful evening. Nice breeze to cool you off after a busy day. Can recommend the baked scrod and sesame encrusted tuna. The tuna was cooked med rare(the way it should be) and what was a but strange was that cutting into it, it seemed a bit tough or stringy but when eating it it was very tender.
Incredible from host, service, runners, and manager check ins. What a beautiful spot; feels like you’re a true guest - service was absolutely exceptional and I do NOT say that lightly. Food was great with a surprising variety and great cocktail menu. We will be back and sending our friends. Thank you, again!
Whenever me and my family visit Tavern by the Sea in North Kingstown, RI, we always have a fantastic experience. The atmosphere is charming and inviting, making it a perfect spot for a relaxing meal. The outdoor seating area is particularly lovely, providing a great view and a pleasant dining environment. The food is outstanding, with a diverse menu that caters to various tastes. My favorite dish is the octopus, which is cooked to perfection every time. It's a must-try if you visit. The rest of the menu is equally impressive, offering delicious options that are sure to satisfy. What sets this place apart is the exceptional service. The waiters go above and beyond to ensure you have a great dining experience. They are friendly, attentive, and truly make you feel welcome. In comparison, I find "Wickford On The Water" to be overrated. "Tavern by the Sea" offers a much more enjoyable dining experience in terms of both food quality and service. Highly recommended!
Came for date night and enjoyed the two for Tuesday special. Had chicken and salmon. Both were excellent. Super friendly staff. Looking to come back again before they close at the end of December for the season.
Went on a rainy day and tried the French onion soup. I also had a glass of rose and a salad. Soup had good flavor and they offered a GF option which is a plus! They split the salad which was great. Server was attentive and it was overall a good experience. Would love to sit outside for those vibes!! Just was a bit expensive for a lunch! 2 roses, 2 soups and 1 split salad with chicken for $100 after tip 🥣
It was a very nice weather day on a Friday evening. The place is busy so best make reservations if you want a table. We sat at the bar and ate starters for dinner. The stuffed quahogs were very large and the stuffing nicely spiced and meaty. We also had the muscles which were numerous (20!) in a white butter sauce. The only detraction was a mixed bag for service. They were busy and split their attention between the bar and a painting party in the back garden. Certainly worth the visit for the food and atmosphere.
The food was good. My fiancé and I split the French onion soup and the Oriental calamari. I had the chicken souvlaki, he had veal parm which he was disappointed with, he said that it was ice cold when he got it and the waitress never brought back the parmesan cheese he had asked for. Overall a good meal and experience. Will give them another shot.
Went there with the ladies from my book club. The table was well worth the wait. The fish tacos were amazing, the service was quick and attentive, and it’s hard to beat the view of the harbor.
Neat little spot with a nice deck by a small inlet. Comfortable even on a scorching hot day. Service was excellent. Menu was large with lots of good options. The very traditional food tasted great.
Ordered the lobster/scallops that was very good. They also cooked an off menu burger for my wife which was excellent. Seaside dining in a casual atmosphere and wonderful staff.
Lovely spot to eat out by the water in Wickford. The ahi tuna tacos were delicious. Our waiter was friendly and helpful. Restroom was not accessible. Glad we could eat outside, the atmosphere inside was a bi dreary. Had to ask to have the music turned down so we could hear each other.
I’ve always loved Tavern by the Sea - its atmosphere right on the water has made it one of my favorite spots in Wickford. But I have to say, I was really disappointed this time around. I ordered the hot buttered lobster roll, which is priced at $29, and unfortunately it just didn’t live up to expectations. The portion was small, the roll was barely filled, and the lobster was served over lettuce - which felt like filler more than anything. It also lacked the rich, buttery flavor you’d expect from a proper hot lobster roll. The fries and pickles were just okay, nothing that really helped justify the price. I hate to leave a negative review, especially for a place I’ve always enjoyed, but this meal just didn’t feel worth nearly $30.
There are better places! There are better places with pasta. We spent $200 + and had the worst service. 2 bottles of wine, apps, soups, entrees. Waitress asked us if we wanted anything else? We asked for dessert and she was like, kitchen closed. She never even alerted us the kitchen was closed. We ordered a dish to go, she forgot to put it in. We waited to be seated for 15 mins after our reservation, other guests walked in after and was seated before us. When we were brought to our table, it was in a completely empty area in the back with tons of tables. Didn’t mind but why the wait then? Food was ok. Service was terrible.
Very much disappointed. I'm not sure if they were without a chef tonight and we were unaware. We ordered the stuffed quahog appetizer which was very undercooked. For entrees I ordered the lobster roll, I couldn't help but laugh when it was served on a hotdog bun with about 2oz of lobster meat and very salty. My wife ordered the haddock. It was soggy and saturated in the sauce. Server was friendly but not helpful. I am very empathetic with the staffing situation, but IF they were, some transparency on it would have been nice. Seemed to be very little concern with quality of food and guest experience.
I got the lobster and scallops Cardinal and the souce was definitely not a Cardinal souce, tasted more like Spaghetti Os and was terrible. The seated my party of 4 right behind the bar and was non stop Bees flying around do to the bar spillage. Everyone's food in our party was terrible , the only good thing I have to say was the stuffing. Other than that terrible food quality.
Service was great and locations is great. However, value is fleeting the lobster rolls were space with very very little lobster but we're still charged as if they had been a decent portion. Other dishes we tried were disappointing but the tacos were excellent.
Waitress was awful. Took our order brought out our food. We asked for water and we never saw the server again. No water, no server coming and asking how everything was. We finished our meal and sat there for another 10 minutes or so then just got up and went inside and had to ask for our bill.
Scam by the Sea Went with a few friends, making our party 4 including myself. Place was utterly empty on a Friday night, and it really isn’t a big wonder why. Literally every single menu item is overpriced. Not to mention the proportions are insultingly small. Clearly trying to rake any of the poor souls that are too unfortunate to end up at this establishment for all their money potential. Starters We started off with drinks, bread, and Calamari. The Calamari tasted like it came straight outta a frozen bag and my chair 2 beer was warm. The bread olive oil you dip your bread in was almost tasteless. • Calamari — $18 Main Meals • Grilled bistro steak: definitely not an 8oz sirloin, and they tried to cover that up by covering the plate in french fries. — $29 • Chicken and Penne Cajun Alfredo: actually tasted good but had maybe 5 bites of chicken and pasta. — $25 • Chicken Parm (x2): cold in the middle and had an utterly despicably lacking amount of pasta. Don’t advertise it as chicken parm then throw 3 pieces of pasta and call it chicken parm. — $24 each Atmosphere The patio atmosphere is pretty good except for the fact that every five minutes they have a pipe that runs down into the water that gushes. It was later told to us by the server that it runs directly to the bathroom. Nice knowing that I was listening to bathroom water flow out into the Wickford Bay during my entire meal. Service Lastly, even though the place was empty, the server gave us the wildest look ever when we decided we were gonna split our check 3 ways. Conclusion I will never be stepping a foot in this restaurant again in my life, and I highly recommend for not a single other soul to follow my lead. A certified SCAM.
I came by this restaurant last night since the reviews looked good. The staff was nice and welcoming. The outdoor seating was also great but the food was not good at all for the price point. We got two entrees with no drinks and it came out to 60 dollars with 20% tip. We ordered the tavern burger with sweet potato fries and a beet salad with added shrimp. I asked if the tavern burger was ground in house since the description noted it had chuck and short rib in it, it was not. So I asked for it to be cooked medium well. It came out medium rare, not exactly what I want for a frozen burger. The fries were ok but tasted a bit of rancid oil, I don't think they change their fry oil on a daily basis. The beet salad had 2.5oz of shrimp added for 7 dollars, a bit low so we added an extra side of chicken. The proteins were ok but the beet salad itself was just not that great. It seemed like it was sliced can beets, with a drizzle of olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and a few crumbles of goat cheese. This was underwhelming considering it was a 27 dollar salad by the end of it. Summary: Great staff but the food was low quality. Hopefully their quality improves moving forward.
Nice place to visit but the meal was terrible. We had a party where 4 of us got the baked scrod. It was a very small portion and it was way over cooked and dried out. Worst we ever had. The only way we could eat it was to drown it in melted butter. Server was nice and felt awful, but there was nothing done about it. And it wasn't exactly cheap. It doesn't take much to impress me except good food. Not happening here. And the only bathroom is a tiny little toilet up stairs that's not as big as a closet. Nice place to go for a drink but it's just a tourist trap.
