Opinions de Aburaya Oakland
There was a very long line when we went there and the place was crowded/loud. Ordering online and picking it up is much easier. Since the weather was nice, we ate by the lake instead of eating indoors. Everything was delicious. I just wish there was a little more sauce on the chicken.
Celebrated my husband’s birthday with the best Japanese fried chicken from Aburaya 🔥🍗 Still hot even an hour after pickup — that says everything. So flavorful, so good. 10/10
Such a cute lil store with very affordable options! And a good selection of alcohol as well (rly recommend the hibiscus mead)
My friend and I always try to order to go from Aburaya when we visit the East Bay and from Berkeley we stopped by and got parking in front of your front door! We each have vegan daughters so wer happy to know your options. They loved the vegan drumsticks and fried tofu. Yum. We each took enjoyed your delicious fried chicken thighs and wasabi slaw. Such joy! Thank you from your friends and fans from Campbell, CA!
I just love your fried chicken! I lived/worked in Saudi Arabia 20 years ago and prepared chicken a similar way. They called theirs “broasted”! Same deliciousness without all the oil.
Found this small Japanese restaurant while looking for some places to eat before seeing a show at the Fox Theatre. The sauces here are quite extensive and I definitely would like to come back and try other ones. I had the teriyaki sauce on my fried chicken and my partner did the BBQ and Umami salt which was certainly plentiful and a great meal with salad and rice included. It was well worth the price and I would certainly get it again. Overall I will definitely come back again to try more sauces and dry rubs!
One of my favorite restaurants in all of Oakland. As a gluten intolerant person it's also great (and not typical) to have soooo many options. Love the vibe inside as well, though sometimes when it's crowded it can take a minute to grab a table. But yeah, great place, great food, very cool staff, I highly recommend it!
Aburaya is the best at what it does! Excellent fried chicken, lots of vegan options, and great bang for your buck. Plus, they're cool as hell.
Aburaya is an amazing Japanese fried chicken place. It gets rather crowded during the lunch rush though, so make sure you order in advance! I recommend the Teriyaki or Shichimi seasoning.
This place is THE BEST!!!! Our family eats here at least once a week and it is the most delicious, perfectly cooked, flavorful, quality food… AND IT IS AFFORDABLE!!! You just can’t get any better. Also, our daughter has celiac disease and our entire family can eat together and we have peace of mind knowing she is safe! My daughters have dubbed our food from here, “Gangster Chicken” due to the rock and roll vibe of the restaurant. Funny story, their friend was over for dinner one night and LOVED the dinner from here and I got a text from the friend’s mom later in the week asking where we got the dinner from because her daughter must have been confused. She kept googling, “Gangster Chicken Oakland” and nothing was coming up on the web! OOOPS! That gave us a good laugh. I had to inform her that we had renamed it and sent her the link to “Aburaya.” No matter what you call it, you won’t be disappointed if you decide to eat there!
The food at Aburaya is excellent. The Japanese fried chicken is a must. I also had the beet salad, which was outstanding. The chicken sandwich is huge. I'm not sure how you get it into your mouth for a bite. In addition to great food, Arubaya is active in the community. It serves free food to the community when local businesses are providing goods to disadvantaged members.
We got our order delivered, it was on time and everything was very tasty! Aburaya chicken is consistently great. And we love the miso ranch and homemade hot sauces.
Everything is SO GOOD!! I eat gluten free and am so glad to know this a GF kitchen with truly delicious food. I had their chicken sandwich tonight- it was comically large, probably half a pound! The GF bun held up very well, the chicken was juicy, and the slaw and pickles were SO tasty. I love coming here!
We've been meaning to go here for some, so glad we finally made the trip from Richmond. We waited less than 10 minutes. My brother and I had the chicken sandwiches with tater tots and my husband had the fried chicken plate. He ordered the 20 piece thinking the pieces would be small, lol. His plate could've fed all of us. Everything was cooked exactly right. Amazing menu the best food I've had in years. Well above the price range. If I didn't live so far away, I would be here every day. Lots of interesting selections of beers, including a couple of gluten-free options. Interesting sake, and just so many drinks that wouldn't cross your eyes to take it all in. I really love the vibe and the young woman taking our order on 12/6/25 had a great attitude when was helpful when my husband had questions. I actually felt happy for a change being in a restaurant where people treated you decent and the food was amazing, so rare nowadays. Just proves a restaurant doesn't have to be posh to have class.
Great hole in the wall giving off a punk culture vibe. Different fusion menu options that i will have to come back to try! The Oyakadon was 🤌🤌🤌. Fried chicken was perfect contrast of crispy and juicy and carried alot of flavor complimented by the simmering egg. Again very worth it. Thank you for the great Lunch!
Hands down, best gluten free fried chicken I've ever had. Everything on the menu is fresh and attentively prepared. Get the chicken with BBQ and greens only, toss together with the wasabi slaw - heaven!
Good option for a quick meal, and I mean quick seriously. From order till I got my food was likely less than 4 minutes. I went with the 4 piece fried chicken with side salad, splitting the flavors on the chicken between BBQ(sauce) and General Tso(dry rub). Of the two the BBQ I personally preferred more, the flavor was deeper and the slight spice to it added more, it had a slight crisp but not as significantly as the the General Tso due to the dry rub. The general Tso was good as well and had a better crisp but the flavor was as exciting. The interior of the restaurant was a bit dim which is easier on the eyes but made my pictures come out a little dark. Not much else to say, happy with good fried chicken
I hope to eat at Arburaya in person someday but until then I think this is the best takeout chicken in town. The chicken is tender, crispy and tossed in delicious sauces (with tangy & spicy options). Our favor fried chicken comes with crunchy cabbage and perfectly cooked rice. To top it all off, the menu is reasonably priced! They also happily accommodate our dietary restrictions. Keep up the awesome work you guys! Thank you!
We picked up a family size order. We also got an 8 piece chicken dinner so we would have 4 flavors of chicken in all. Everyone really enjoyed it and they said the rice was delicious. The only constructive criticism I can share is that we didn’t need a giant tray of cabbage that came with it. Other than that, it was great.
This place slaps. Fantastic lunch spot in the area that I grabbed for the first time on a work trip. They offer some delicious fried chicken and honestly massive portions. Wound up going with the fried chicken rice bowl with the bbq sauce. The chicken was delicious and tender packed with a ton of flavor. I loved how many options the place had as well in case you wanted to try some different variations. The restaurant itself is pretty small with just a few tables so I would say that take out is probably the best way to go for most who visit. But this place I would absolutely go back to again if I’m in town.
Enjoyed my dinner here. Stopped by before a concert in downtown Oakland. It’s a busy spot with not enough seating inside for the crowds. I enjoyed the chicken I got, cooked well. Was nice and juicy. I ordered their bbq sauce and it was very tangy, hard to describe. I’d definitely try out other flavors before getting bbq again. The bland salad and cabbage didn’t seem needed either.
Really great place, super conveniently close to my office! Staff are amazing and fast, seating is plentiful and comfy. Food is 90% amazing, my main complaint is with the Okayu sando. It's really gross. Like it's floppy and the egg salad I sent look right. The sauce is spicy wasabi in a way that I do not enjoy. I also think I'm not the only one because the person taking my order literally clarified if I had it before and seemes to warn me not to get it. It's not good in a way that's genuinely surprising since everything else from here is great. I literally got indigestion. Literally all the other good I've had here, like the fried chicken and salads have been great! Definitely recommend for every except the Okayu chicken sandwich.
I wanted to love this place and I do love some aspects of it (the decor, music, Asian goodies) but unfortunately found their fried chicken super underwhelming. The breading is uneven and thin which makes for pretty soggy coating on the chicken (if you've ever been on a diet and got the Just Bare frozen chicken bites, it's kinda like that). I was hoping for a shatteringly crisp crunchy coating, and this just wasn't it. The actual chicken is a random mix of dark and white meat, and the pieces that are white meat were a little stringy. Also felt like the flavors were good, but lack depth (habenero miso and shichimi). The seasonal fried oyster mushroom was extremely tough and chewy, 1/10 do not recommend. The miso ranch was good though.
