Mom's Bun Mi

It's hard to find a Banh mi with both good bread and good filling, but I have to say that this is the best I've tried. Perfect balance of bread, pâté and filling. Will for sure come back for more! Highly recommended!

The only kind of banmhi anyone should ever eat. I get the BBQ pork Or egg or I put egg on a BBQ pork Sometimes pork belly with egg Sometimes tofu with egg Sometimes just tofu I love them all!

Definitely coming back for more! Sandwich were delicious and the Sugar cane juice is a must try!

Solid banh mi at a reasonable price and fast. The bread is warm and crispy, while the meats are tender and juicy. The store is small but comfortable, and at lunch times chances are good that you could meet that home renovation contractor you were looking for.

My food was made in ten minutes, the Pad Thai had peanuts, scallions and tofu. I added some lime and it made it perfect! Very tasty! The spring rolls herbs and shrimp were super fresh and served with a side of delicious peanut sauce, perfect sweet-savory balance. $8 for the Pad Thai that is definitely 2 meals bulk, and $7.50 for the spring rolls, a great meal for $20 with tip. I will definitely come back!

This is one of Oakland's Southeast Asian gems. Immigrants working their butts off making a high quality product at a low price. If they were in berkeley the Banh Mi would be twice the price and not as fresh. The neighborhood when I was there at 4PM was full of half naked prosititutes but the parking lot at Mom's felt safe and chill. They deserve to have lines of people out the doors. Super warm people. Tofu and veggie banh mi also available.

I got a grilled chicken sandwich and it was so good! Fresh veggies and savory meat. I also was able to try soursop for the first time! It was so delicious and the people that work here are so nice. It's a great atmosphere and this is my first time here, so glad that I came. I have added this to my go to spots for sure!

This shop has been refreshed and remodeled! 2 days new! We met the new owners who were very welcoming and kind. The bread was perfectly crunchy and not too hard or soft. Very tasty drinks too! I tried their Thai Milk Tea and it was delicious. They take Debit Card now too! The shop is very clean and organized. We hope to become regulars here! Thank you!

And they are pretty inexpensive at $5-$6 each. They were so good I ate 2! The bread was fresh warm and crispy (which makes a big difference) and the meats were full of flavor. My wife and I were at the restaurant last Sunday. The food was very tasteful. The service was excellent. She was very courteous, friendly, and professional. We will come back for more for sure.

Something changed here and much for the better. I came here a couple of times when it opened a few years ago (while stopping at Mithapheap Thai/Lao market in that strip mall) and was unimpressed. My usual spot was closed today so I went back and it was AWESOME. They were super friendly and nice and the bbq pork was homemade (and delicious), not the "bought from the Chinese market" pretty much everyone uses. The pickled vegetables rocked, lots of cilantro, and nice and hot peppers. I'll be back!

I recently stopped by Mom’s Pho & Banh Mi in Oakland and was pleasantly surprised. Their pho is comforting with a nice balance of flavors, and the banh mi sandwiches are definitely worth trying — soft, chewy bread packed with flavorful fillings like BBQ pork or chicken. The vibe is casual and laid-back, perfect for lunch or a quick bite, and the staff is friendly and attentive. Portions are good for the price, and it’s a solid choice if you’re craving classic Vietnamese comfort food without anything too fancy.

Excellent banh mi, love the French roll in particular. And you absolutely cannot beat the $7.50-8.00 price. I get all around the Bay Area for work and this is the best lunch deal I've found. Will definitely stop in again to try a rice or vermicelli plate next time I'm in the area. They've got some stiff competition nearby but this place is great.

I been going here for a little over 3 and half years. The couple that own Moms bun mi has a whole different attitude. The hubby always jack up the Pimlico on them sandwiches and as for the wifey.. she's so generous and absolutely nice.. not just that. She's also Beautiful. I would rate the restaurant a low star just because the husband, but then again.. the wife that made it happen.

Solid Bahn Mi at a great price. Lots of choices. I really enjoyed the lemongrass beef sandwich. Very basic strip mall location, but there is parking! No seating, take out only.

This is the best banh mi I ever had, hands down. I ordered their #1, banh mi dac Biet, which is their combination sandwich with pork belly, jambon and fancy pork along with pate and all the fixings like cucumber, carrots, jalapeno, etc. The bread is toasted, and the thinly sliced pork belly was warm with melt in your mouth texture. The portion of meat was very generous. It is a bargain at $5. I want to try their other sandwiches but I don't know if anything can beat this. I recommend you eat it while it's warm, or you won't get the same effect. So why the 4 stars and not 5? Unfortunately, they have the slowest service, ever. It took about 30 minute to get my sandwich. They need to work on having more kitchen staff and work more efficiently. Still, I plan to go back as it is worth the wait. I'll take a photo of the sandwich next time.

Loved this place before it changed owners. Still like it a lot. The food might even be slightly better now. But I miss Tony's tacos! Only criticism now is that it takes a loooooong time to get a sandwich. Not sure why.... Even when I'm the only person there... But so yummy.

Came here cause ba Le was closed today! It’s a little different than your average banh mi. Bread is more ciabatta like than French bread like in that it’s dense and heavier. They might be going for a higher quality sandwich since it is smaller but I found the cuts of meat to be good quality. I read on yelp some people complained it was bland and I can definitely see that. The pickled carrots and radish don’t have that sweet crunchy refreshing taste and seems to have been sitting in a sauce instead of vinegar. In fact I don’t think there was any radish. The carrots are sliced into think layers instead of little juLienned sticks so that might have impacted the crunch level too. The pate layer is almost undetectable - I’m not even sure if it’s in there even though it’s supposed to be on each sandwich. Bread might have overpowered I.t? All in all - I wouldn’t come here for a banh mi fix since I.t didn’t quite do I.t for me (I need those crunch pickles!!) and I’m still a little hungry after a sandwich. But it is good though! Maybe if ba Le weren’t an option I’d come here. Should out to the Vietnamese coffee for being ridiculous strong without being too sweet!

my go to bun mi is meatball (#10) + egg (add on) so when Bale closed during covid and i found this jem, i dont think I'll go back to Bale's #13 unfortunately. Mom's bun mi just had this juiciness and did not skimp on pate. I've also tried their spring rolls and other items which were great.

Those are numbers 11 and 9, respectively. However, after getting my order to go, and upon eating it, I realized they gave me chicken instead. And also realized that there was a number “5” on the wrap- I didn’t order no. 5. I was disappointed because I wanted to try the beef. Oh well. So I ate half of that one. Then went to try the other thinking it was no. 11. Nope. It was no. 9 instead. So they got my order wrong. I liked that I could hear them giving the meats a heat stir fry so I understand why it took longer than usual being the only customer at the time. I also like the bread. The flavor was fine, but I was surprised by the prices. For me, Ba Le trumps Mom’s.

The food here used to be great and I really enjoyed coming here to get amazing bah min. However the last time I went the ingredients didn't feel as fresh and the sandwiches were acceptable. I hope that it gets as good as it used to be!

Tried their pork belly banh mi, it looked good, but its taste was off. The meat had this 'overcooked' taste and it made me gag. I couldn't finish it I also got a thai ice-tea and it was OK, average. So instead of finishing this banh mi, I drove 2 minutes to Cam Huang and got a banh mi there and it was delicious. Same price but better taste.

Been going to this business a little over 2 yrs now. Today was my very first time I had used 5 cents in pennies and the husband I assume he's the owner of the business. He was complaining about they don't accept pennies. But when he had open the register. I saw plenty of pennies in the pennies slot and with what he had told me. I felt a little upset and I don't think I want to go or purchase and food from the business again.

The meat was not abundant in the sandwich and was lacking in flavor. I was not a fan of their non-traditional banh mi French bread. For the same price and better choices and quality, I’d suggest to give Banh Mi Ba Le down the street a try! Sooo good!

I was so astonished that anyone could get the food out this fast and politely. The food on the other hand, I hope it was just my food today but that food reminded me of Indian street food. I wouldn’t even offer this to the homeless. Why is the meat juice taste like 5 day old bologna left in the kitchen cabinet I don’t know. But if you got fresher food this place would be top 5 places to eat.

My boyfriend said he used to go here everyday for lunch. The best banh mi in Oakland way back then. We came by today and got 2 combo sandwiches. Their banh mi isn’t like before. Very bad quality. It doesn’t worth it for 5$. Very disappointed
