I'm lucky to have a really good friend in Oakland, and on top of that, they live close to Shan Dong. Everytime we visit, it's a guarantee that we'll eat here. If I could pack Shan Dong in my suitcase and take it back to Tennessee, I would. Stop reading the comments and just go there. If there's a wait, it's more than worth it. What a treat this place is!

Popular Chinese restaurant known for their regional cuisine. The food is flavorful with plenty of good options and dumplings. They have affordable prices and the food is brought out quickly. They have a small dining space so at times, you may need to wait to enter.

We visited at noon on a Saturday and did not have a wait. Once seated, we were provided with hot tea, which was nice. We made our order, and it quickly arrived within about 5 minutes. We ordered the Shan Dong Chicken, the sesame noodles with the handmade noodles, and the special dumplings. The Shan Dong chicken is so good! You must try that when visiting here. Next time, we want to try the hot and spicy noodles, the sesame noodles wasn’t our favorite but was still decent. From reviews online it looks like that is the most popular noodle dish. The special dumplings are good, I like the filling. But, keep in mind it can be a lot of dough when pairing the special dumplings with the handmade noodles. Overall, we love stopping here whenever we are passing through Oakland.

We tried this place because of the crowd outside and figured the food was good! Table for 2 seated within 5 min on a December Friday night at 7pm! Lovely tea while waiting. Food arrived quickly and the portions were enormous! Any entree could easily be shared by multiple people! We ordered the Sweet and Sour Soup, Spicy Chow Mein with hand pulled noodles (sub chicken for shrimp) and Moo Shu Vegetables. I appreciated that they asked if we were comfortable with the meat in each of the dishes and were able to make substitutions. Everything Yum :) We ate as much as we could and still had to go boxes for everything. Great spot!

This Chinese restaurant has become my absolute favorite! The noodles are hand-pulled and made right here, and it’s a game-changer. The dumpling soup is packed with flavor, and I also tried the spicy chicken noodles. They had the perfect amount of spice and a delightful doughy texture. The shan dong chicken is a must-try - it’s got the perfect ratio of breading to chicken, and it’s crispy in every bite. The dumplings were bursting with flavor, and the sauce they come with really takes them to the next level. I love my food spicy, so I added some chili oil to everything. The tea was also a nice accompaniment to the meal. I arrived on a Thursday evening, just before the rush, and there was a line out the door for dine-in, as well as a lot of takeout orders. The staff was super friendly and quick. I wish I had taken more photos because the food was beautiful.

This is a hidden Mom and Pop gem. My friend told me to get the Sesame hand pulled noodles and what an amazing dish. So much flavor and the portions are large. Very good spot for Chinese food all together. Definitely recommend this spot!

Amazing food! We ordered the sesame paste hand rolled noodles, the Shan Song Beef and the black mushroom and tender greens. All we're done to perfection. The mushrooms and tender greens are made with a garlic sauce, the noodles were done in a peanut sauce. And the Shan Dong beef was crispy and a little spicy. We love this place, we can't wait to come back again soon!

Authentic atmosphere (loud). The food was great, however, the food we liked was a bit different from what other reviews said. We didn’t like the sesame paste noodles as much as the spicy chow mein. Also, the dumplings were good, but the dry braised green beans and the shandong chicken as well as the special fried rice were our favorites.

Excellent, giant pot stickers. I also enjoyed the chicken with broccoli. The soy sauce seems homemade, or at least extra ingredients added. Amazing.

Do’s and don’ts: Do get the sesame noodles. I’m not a big noodles person and I often find noodle dishes get old after a few heavy bites, but this one is like crack. Maybe get the mixed veggie deluxe if you need a large healthy dish. Maybe get the bean paste fish but it’s whatever. Not great. Wish we’d gotten the walnut prawns instead. Don’t get the leek filled pancake. Looks better than it tastes.

Food is generally very good here. The hands made noodles are the best if you can get it. We ordered the sesame paste hand stretched noodles and they were delicious and flavorful. We also ordered the pork chow main. It was good but this time I found that it was a bit salty. I've been visiting this place for years and I'm bummed that they got rid of the Shan Dong steamed meat and vegetables buns. They were so good! Wish they brought it back.

The staff ladies there are super nice and friendly — the lunch special portion is nice and the sesame noodle is good too. The only thing is that I’m not so sweetness driven and this place definitely is more for those who don’t mind sweetness.

Not the fanciest place but good value. Fair decent size portion/. Got dumplings, sesame noodles, salt and pepper shrimp and green beans with beef for $85 (including tip). Favorite was green beans and least fav was sesame noodles which had great texture but sauce was too sweet.
