Opinions de Wild Fish Restaurant Pacific Grove
Stopped here randomly after checkout the lighthouse. Didn't realize it was a jazz joint. Pretty cool. Food was good, service was excellent. Pricy, but not as bad as some of the other fancy spots. Would totally go again, maybe during the jazz festival next time.
Had a lovely and delicious dining experience here. We all tried different fish and each one had amazing flavor. Friend who loves swordfish said it was the best swordfish he'd ever had.
Food was really really good, the music was equally fantastic. The special squash-rings were unlike anything I have ever had, the smoked cod in ponzu sauce was excellent and the deep fried cod was crispy on the outside and perfectly flaky on the inside. The spicy kale lived up to its name, not for the faint of heart but had terrific flavor along with heat. Sticky.Toffee.Pudding. order it, you're welcome. Can't wait to come back!
Just blown away, second year we've been back and the menu is still everything a seafood lover could hope for. Fish was caught local that day, which is something you rarely see. It tasted phenomenal. They've refurbished the place since we were last there, so it's got a cute bar now, and it's one of the only places I saw that was doing live music on a Friday. Definitely one of my top spots in North Cal, 100% try if you're a seafood lover. Thanks for the beautiful evening!
What a fantastic comfortable restaurant. Staff was especially happy and nice. The food was phenomenal! Steamers and sauce were off the charts. Whole fish for two (locally caught) was the envy of other dinners. Well worth the visit. Oh... almost didn't forget the live jazz band. The old couts put on a very nice performance.
Fabulous find in Pacific Grove. We stopped by for lunch and loved the fresh pineapple shrub to drink, the delectable mushrooms (in a tasty crème sauce) and local fish perfectly cooked. The server (maybe owner?) was super friendly and helpful, answering questions about the drinks and food, and quite welcoming. Will definitely return!
First timers here but will be back soon. Started with oysters from WA state. 2 kinds, both good and well described by our excellent server Brandon. Swordfish and halibut were both excellent. The au provire sauce was perfect with the steak-like swordfish, crispy potatoes and locally sourced mushrooms. The sticky toffee pudding was a perfect dessert. Not too much, just right. They do have a full bar and a good wine list with focus on both local and California.
Oh my. Food is great. Live jazz was amazing. Best time in Monterey!!! You must come here to feel the vibe!!!! Love this place.
I went for lunch with my husband. The food did not disappoint. Everything from the smoke trout chowder, the salad which looked like a painting and tasted fresh and amazing, and the whole fish were truly delicious. Compliment to the chef !!! The wait staff was friendly and helpful but they need to hire at least one more server. The overall experience is enjoyable and we will definitely come back again.
I've had an amazing experience at Wildfish Restaurant in Pacific Grove. First of all, the atmosphere is great, the jazz band was playing almost until the closure of the restaurant, and we really enjoyed the music. All the staff members were extremely attentive and nice, but our server Vladimir was just outstanding, he did above and beyond! I arrived only an hour before closing time (my plane was delayed), but still he insisted that we stay until we finish our food and drinks (even if we were 2 last people in the restaurant). And of course their main course - Whole Fish (also known as Holy Fish) is amazing, best fish I had in California!
We went here twice during our visit to Pacific Grove. Food is genius. Perfectly dressed salad with local produce, freshly caught fish perfectly prepared, paired with veg/fruit from local farms, and lovely desserts too. The ethos and service are local and community oriented.
Stopped in for dinner based on a recommendation from the hotel staff. Everything was amazing!! Solid dirty martini and old fashioned, ordered the whole rock cod after seeing a sever bring it to another table, it was fantastic!! We started with the calamari from our server’s recommendation- some of the best we’d ever had, yummy chipotle aioli to dip in. Jazz- great live jazz on the sidewalk!!
Amazing!! Another of the few 5/5 reviews I’d give in pacific grove. I got scallops and some herbed mashed potatoes. Super tasty. We also got the cheese platter for the appetizer and the flavors paired very nicely. We got a chocolate pudding with creamy caramel and a cookie for dessert which was pretty heavenly, a must try! The food is decent priced, slightly on the pricey side but it’s high quality ingredients prepared by good chefs. A great atmosphere and excellent service. You may want reservations as it gets busy every once and a while.
To the people here saying this place is too small, well that's the frikin point! I loved how intimate and small this place is. There need to be more small places like this vs the crazy bustling big restaurants you find too often in places like SF. A complete hole in the wall. My GF and I came here and were greeted by the owners (a sweet husband and wife couple) and they sat is right away. We were seated promptly (we had a reservation) and our orders were taken without waiting too long. The menu is had a great selection of local seafood dishes, all of them looked delicious, but we decided to start with the seafood platter. The wait time for our food to get out was minimal. We were left speechless to say the least: delicious fresh oysters, and a ceviche that left you craving for more. Great start so far! But then the star of the show was the main dish. I ordered the albacore tuna, and I'll just say that it was the dankest piece of tuna I've ever had. Cooked to perfection with a delicious and perfectly seasoned crust. Ughhhhh, I could've had two. So things are great so far right? Can't get any better than this. WRONG! Dessert time. We got this lemon posset that was like eating angel's tears with pieces of clouds. Desert was so dank we had to get another one. And then we died and went to heaven. Overall, this place left us speechless. I grew up in a costal town so I know quality seafood, and let me tell ya, this place doesn't disappoint. It's a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. Will come again.
Great fresh local seafood! The bouillabaisse was excellent and included a generous amount of seafood (Rock Cod, shrimp, squid, and mussels). Service was prompt and courteous and we received our food relatively quickly. Taking our time to eat and chat we spent about an hour here. Nice outdoor seating area as well.
Wild fish is 5 star. The food is organic and fresh! They even post the captions names. The tartare and ketchup are made fresh. Christian did an outstanding job with service! The fish and chips are gluten free. I highly recommend Wild fish. The only problem is you will want to come daily😀🍷🥰
Awesome lunch specials! Love the tuna melt, the fish tacos, and soup is good too. High quality ingredients that are super fresh.
I rarely rate a restaurant 5 stars. There is almost always something that fails to meet expectations. Our dining experience exceeded expectations in every category, for every dish. Oysters to die for, Seared Ahi better than any I've had, great friendly service, quiet intimate setting. I wish I lived closer.
Thus was such a great little find! The food was excellent, the ambiance was great on the patio and our server was fabulous. We got the sablefish, fingerling potatoes, and house bread to split, and each got a chowder. The portions were well-sized and everything tasted great. Parking also was easy for us on a Tuesday night, we were able to pull into a spot right in front of the restaurant.
This place is a gem — the kind of restaurant that doesn’t shout but quietly wins you over with every detail. The seafood is the star here, and rightfully so. Sourced fresh from the Monterey Bay, each dish tastes like it was pulled from the ocean that morning. Whether it’s oysters, grilled fish, or ceviche, everything arrives perfectly cooked and cleanly plated — no fuss, just serious respect for great ingredients. As if that weren’t enough, the ambiance is genuinely lovely. Soft jazz drifts through the space like a sea breeze, setting a relaxed, elegant tone without veering into stuffy. It’s the kind of place where you lean back with a glass of wine and suddenly realize you’ve been smiling the whole time. Don’t skip the happy hour — it’s one of the best on the coast. Thoughtfully priced, generous portions, and no corners cut. You’ll leave feeling like you’ve somehow gotten away with something. The service is top notch too. A perfect spot for date night, solo indulgence, or just a refined break from the ordinary. Highly recommend.
Loved this place! The food was fantastic and the service was lovely. We chose to eat there last minute and we're squeezed in at 5. We sat next to the window with a nice view of the ocean at sunset. It is a smaller place which keeps it quaint and quiet. I would highly recommend trying them out, but call for reservations in advance!
Wild Fish has beautiful outdoor seating in the heart of Pacific Grove. Our server was helpful with our complicated order that included several different menu items for dine in as well as take out. The fish and chips were delectable as were the oysters and I was especially impressed by the presentation of the food. I will definitely be coming back for more.
I had such a special birthday dinner at Wild Fish! Our waiter JC took great care of us and went above & beyond with his service. The food, drinks & dessert were excellent. We sat outside in the cozy heated parklet. Highly recommend coming on Friday or Saturday to see the Lighthouse Jazz Quartet!
Our waitresses really took their time to beautifully describe the essence of this restaurant and how to best navigate. All fish are served al-a-cart. Basically, pick a type of fish. Then, customize your meal by adding veggie sides, soup and breads. Order to share! It’s more fun that way. Scrumptious mushroom soup - served with tarragon and Creme fraise. Their crispy cauliflower had bonito flakes that waved and danced around. The artichoke half was a little over done, not super fresh. I heard the waitress talk to chef about it and then they brought it to our table anyway. But we ate it. We didn’t send back the super salty ahi tuna, but another table did. Don’t let this discourage you, I’m giving an honest review and they know what they need to improve on for next time. Wines start at $13 a glass. Corking fee is $20. Beers start at $5. They have local ciders! Our bill for the Ahi tuna, cauliflower, artichoke heart, 2 glasses of Phillips hill pinot, the mushroom soup, a glass of six wines port and a toffee cake was $111. Reservations recommended, this place seats about 18 people and fills up fast. Free parking out front.
Arturo did a wonderful job servicing us. I highly recommended catching Wild Fish Restaurant!
Busy holiday weekend! We did not make a reservation and they accommodated us. The food was outstanding, the service was outstanding. You could see they were very busy and they were running around. There was a bartender in a server and they kind of switched off and helped each other. Great team work! We had three appetizers and a main dish. +2 desserts! Everything was made by a chef you could tell.
I went in for lunch at about 1:30pm with skepticism because restaurant was empty, but; I was so glad I took the chance! This restaurant is so underrated!!! Both the fish of the day and soup of the day were amazingly fresh and prepared with much delicateness. The server, Gabriella who served me was very friendly and helpful with the menu. Highly recommended this place!
I had the fresh catch which was grilled swordfish and my wife had the fish and chips. Both were delicious! The only downside is the bread costs extra and the iced tea is limited to one refill. Overall, the food & service were excellent!
Absolutely delicious! Very fresh oysters, perfectly prepared seafood, and a cozy, elegant atmosphere. Friendly service ( thanks J.D.) and great attention to detail — a wonderful place for a relaxed and memorable dinner. Highly recommend.
This place was excellent. My fish was awesome, my wife's fish was awesome, the service was good, the price was reasonable and the atmosphere was nice. My only gripe was that my cocktail was not very impressive. I ordered some sort of sea-themed Martini, and it was nice for a standard martini but I was hoping for a little more briney/sea infusion. I will likely go back next time I'm in town.
New sea food experience and live jazz. Oystershell martini was briny and good...until the third sip, wished the expensive experience was over. Sablefish collar was delicious and broke some of my dining frontiers. Bouillabaisse was delicious, halibut was fantastic, popovers were dense but good. Sticky toffee pudding was only okay, candied pecans were the highlight, but only a few on the plate. $300 for two people with wine.
Wild Fish is my favorite restaurant in the area! And shout out to our server, Ravi! He made the night feel so special for us. Every time I visit, I always make sure to have a meal here. The servers and staff are very welcoming, and the food will make you feel like you’ve made it to heaven! Definitely stop by if you are in the area.
This was the highlight meal of our weekend away in Pacific Grove. We visited on a Friday and enjoyed the live jazz, warm welcome and check-in throughout the meal by the owners, very friendly waitstaff and the food and wine pairing were delicious. The whole cooked fish was on the dry side but I think it was the type of fish. The fish collar special-of-the-day appetizer was remarkable (never had anything that delectable). I loved people watching too. Everyone enjoyed their food, the company and the camaraderie of the wait staff and music performers demonstrated the trust and care they have for each other. The menu highlights the source of the seafood which triggered a conversation with our neighboring table later in the evening. So fun! Update from Nov 2022: we loved it so much we came back to relive the awesome seafood eating experience. Our waitress was so charming! We had to get the aged Albariño wine again (can’t find this everywhere) The fish collars were like eating Korean hot chicken wings, except they are fish “wings”. Everything is so well prepared and the co-owners and staff are delightful! Update from Dec 2024: came here on a Monday night. Had the whole cooked fish again as well as the smoked sablefish, oysters and mushroom medley.
Food: Fresh, tasty. Service: perfection Atmosphere: intimate, friendly, neat Cleanliness: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Our family (grandparents, parents, two year old) enjoyed Sunday afternoon brunch in a quiet upbeat setting. We had mimosas with fresh squeezed orange juice, the freshest calamari with a lovely spicy dip, amazing melt-in-your-mouth bread & butter, smoked fish soup, fish tacos, cod burgers, fries to knock your socks off and champagne. It was a wonderful experience.
Definitely make a reservation,...as they are very popular and it's no wonder! This was my first visit and will not be my first. Parking is street parking, so depending on local events could be a bit challenging. About the Wild Fish Restaurant...from the moment I arrived to when I departed, everyone from the owner to the staff were nothing short of spectacular! They met everyone with a smile, answered every question and were attentive to all their customers. I had their swordfish, it was approx. 1/2" thick and was tender and moist, it came with potatoes and greens...all cooked perfectly. You must try the coconut and rum cocktail...amazing and their butterscotch desert was perfect as well. Give them a visit, you won't be disappointed!
Place was nice. I would recommend making a reservation because it fills up even early on a Saturday. The oysters are probably the best I have eaten in the USA. They were excellent. Nd the swordfish steak was excellent as well. The calamari had a great smoky flavor. In totally spent about 200$ plus tip for 4 glasses of wine (gerwertraminer is what i would recommend) oysters and appetizer and two entrees. It was a great dinner. The owner also comes around and asks you how you are enjoying it which is really cute. I would return.
Best lunch I’ve had in the area. Completely unassuming place, but very charming. Delicious ahi tostadas, fries, salad, tuna melt. You can see where your fish came from - captain and all. Highly recommend! I can’t wait to go back. Fresh lemonade and homemade ketchup. Fresh and organic ingredients.
Business dinner. Excellent outdoor parking. Wonderfully attentive service. Prompt to fill water glass, asked if we need extra drinks and plates which requires paying attention. This was greatly appreciated so we can enjoy our meal and discussion without interruption by looking for help. The meal itself was wonderfully prepared (ahi tuna), presented and was delicious. Oysters were fresh and very enjoyable - great balance of sea and natural oyster flavor. Good variety in dessert options - bread pudding, chocolate cake, cheesecake and sorbet. Prices seemed fair and in line with expectations. Will definitely continue to come back! (This was the 3rd visit for this reviewer).
What a fantastic find! We arrived without a reservation and thankfully the host was able to accommodate us at nice outdoor table for two that was perfect for our date night. We started with the fresh oysters (50/50 from selection available). The waiter took his time describing the saltiness of the brine and what we should expect and he hit the nail on the head. My salad had green apple and goat cheese and a nice tangy but slightly sweet vinaigrette. Each of our fish meals were perfectly prepared with fish that was caught that day! Our meals were light enough that we indulged in dessert. We felt perfectly full at the end of the meal, and enjoyed every aspect of Wild Fish. The owner/manager even took time to chat with each table; which we especially enjoyed.
Outside is decorated with lights and made me excited to go in. Very nice little restaurant. Clean and warm with the all cute candles on each table. We were greeted right away by the owner. Then waitress came and recommend their appetizer for the day. Crab. We ordered two other fish. And EVERYTHING tasted AWESOME. if this is the fish available everyday, I can eat fish every single day. BTW, their complimentary veggie size is pretty big. So if you don’t eat that much. Probably you don’t need to order appetizer. Highly recommend!
I was so excited because of all the reviews. I had the halibut and the texture and flavor were definitely lacking. The veggie sides had lots of flavor which saved the meal. I was also disappointed in the creamy polenta...almost seemed like there was rice in it...not the velvety smooth consistency I adore when I go out to eat. It was nobody's fault but the way that they had the tables arranged for covid-19, the ocean view I was so eager for was awkwardly next to two men enjoying a nice meal out. Being a solo diner, the view is important because what else are you gonna do while waiting for food, etc. As if she could tell I was awkward, the young waitress offered to take my plate exactly 2 seconds after the last nite was in my mouth...more awkward. As much as I wanted to love this place, I didn't. Maybe salt and takeout would have been better?!?
We got the special, a mussel dish in a cream sauce with saffron oil, to start. It was absolutely delicious. I got the special main, a sablefish dish which was also extremely good, crispy skin with perfectly cooked soft flesh. My gf got the halibut which was a tad overdone. We also weren't impressed with the deserts. I had the apple crumble which was gluten free and tasted rather grainy. My gf had the lemon creme brulee which could've had a bit more lemon flavor. Overall a good meal, if I'd only eaten the two specials it would've been a 5 star meal but the rest brought it down a little.
The food selection was excellent. We met a friend and his family for dinner. Despite the fact that we brought our own wine, the food ended up at $50 pp. A bit pricey for the location but decent food. Service was a bit lax hopefully they do better next time. The AHI tuna was definitely the best of the show.
Great value at happy hour. Service is friendly but disprganized. The bartender does 99% of the service including drinks. Oysters were milky in late December? Good wines by the glass especially at happy hour.
I came to this place because of all the recommendations on Reddit by the locals. We ordered a whole fish(75$) and clam chowder(15$+) The chimichurri on the fish was delicious. Fish was soft and tasted fresh. Potatoes were textured and delicious. **The salad, on the other hand, was WAYY too sour. I don’t know what they put in there, but it was unpleasant. CLAM CHOWDER: had high expectations, but was served one of the worst clam chowders I’ve had. EXTREMELY SALTY. Almost as salty as the ocean water. I notified the waiter, he politely ordered me another one. The second time, it became very watered down. It was obvious the chef just decided to put water into the chowder since it was made in a huge batch. We just decided to return the dish. Despite the disappointment from the clam chowder, the waiters were absolutely amazing. The live music playing even at 9 pm Friday, provided a phenomenal atmosphere. I would totally come here again, and I’ll write another review then.
We were taking a stroll along Ocean View Blvd and dinner time was fast approaching. I had identified Wild Fish previously as a possible restaurant. It was not too far to walk to Lighthouse Avenue, we decided to check them out. After looking at their menu, we decided fish is probably a healthy option given our location. We were seated by the window, unfortunately, the door had to be left open when meant that we had to keep our down jackets on. We were going to share a few appetizers with the Whole Fish entree. Unfortunately, they ran out of the small Whole Fish. We were a large Rock Cod that was over two lbs, for $75. Well, that meant we wouldn't have room for the other appetizers we had identified. Bah! I ordered the non-alcoholic Navarro Vineyard Pinot Noir juice. Being spoiled by the delicious sour dough focaccia we could get from Pastaggio at home, we were disappointed by the House-Made Rosemary Focaccia. The fish was very filling. My partner enjoyed it, I thought it was overcooked as that's the typical problem with Rock Cod. We enjoyed the crispy potatoes, and the miniscule green salad, and of course, we couldn't finish the fish. We rewarded ourselves with sticky toffee pudding for putting in a good effort though. Knowing that Rock Cod tends to be overcooked, next time we visit, we would definitely try other dishes.
We ordered 5 items, and three of them were too salty. The spicy greens made us wince. The focacia was overpowered by salt and sauce for the boulliabaisse tasted like mayonise with too much salt. However, the Sabelfish was delicious. Otherwise, the food would have probably tasted great.
Overall just a very expensive average. Group of 4 guys traveling to Cali to play connect the craft breweries, a local recommended the place so why not? Service was attentive but food was slow. When food arrived it was good, nothing outstanding, some portions lack seasoning. But then the bill came, wow! 4 modest lunches, no drinks and $200. By far the priciest meal we had during our week in California. Sadly, forgettable, but for the price.
Partner and I dined at Wild Fish last evening. Service a bit slow -short on waitstaff but staff was cheerful and polite. Cute, pleasant place but food was not up to standard and price point. In dropping nearly $200 for dinner (including 2 gl wine and 1 martini) we expected better cooking. My sole dish was ok; partner's halibut was very overcooked and dried out. Really almost inedible. With all the fine dining options in Monterey area, we'll pass on returning.
The meal was super fresh and the service was fantastic! My only complaint is that the ketchup, tuna and glaze were a bit flavorless. The presentation was beautiful but it fell flat with taste. The people with me got the halibut and seemed to really like that though. Overall I’d recommend. Also, the fish and chips that everyone raves about is only available at lunch.
Updated review: Finally had lunch here and frankly it was disappointing. I expected the best fish & chips (sorry, I'm stereotyping bc of the wonderful British owners) and, unfortunately, that was not anything close to what I received. So I'd go elsewhere for this particular dish. Mine was under-seasoned and unremarkable. Also, please, both the Brits and the Americans agree that Heinz ketchup is the only way to go. Otherwise, for dinner and other dishes, I'd expect my old review stands, as follows: Outstanding service, hyperlocal fish, delicious food. Will definitely return!
The food was ok, but this is an organic restaurant and they use vegetable oil. The food portions were small for the price! The service was okay. None of the servers introduce themselves. We have a family of six and they charged gratuity 20% without it being mentioned on the restaurant menu or website. We wouldn’t recommend coming here.
Aug. 26th Thursday This is a hard review to write but with the intention of helping to make someone else’s experience better… Maybe takeout would have been better? That was the plan, but we were able to get in last minute due to a no show. I asked out sitting outside as was told “there are only 2 tables.” Was too hungry and didn’t think more deeply. First—The food was 5⭐️fantastic!! See Photos of our cod and salmon entrees—so fresh, locally sourced, wonderful flavors. Also had the seasonal watermelon & sheep feta salad! Though watch for seeds. Service was attentive.4 ⭐️ The main issue was that the small dining room was pretty tightly packed (definitely not spaced out) and the ventilation was lacking. I was so warm I stripped down to my tank top. It would have been more enjoyable and safer if the windows or door were more open and if more tables were outside (like last year). We’ve been here before (both this location and Pacific Grove) and love the food here. But I have to say we would have liked to feel safer COVID-wise while dining here.
I had high hopes for this place. The actual fish dishes we ordered were really good, the sides were extremely lacking. Our waiter was an order taker not a server. The customer should never have to ask if there are specials, they should be part of the servers routine if available, but what I got was a “are you ready to order.” For $35+ per entree I’d expect a little more. What made the experience enjoyable was the live music, that was until I received the bill and was charged $5 per person for the music.
The food was inedible and either blandness, overcooked, undercooked or plain nauseating The service was fine best part of the meal The calamari was so salty it could be compared to drinking ocean water The atmosphere was ok however the music was extremely loud making conversation hard I would not advise to eat here and l will not be returning
The guy with a British accent who wouldn't give me his name was so rude, I would never eat here even if you paid me. I booked this restaurant in error. He wouldn't give me the chance to explain the error, called me a liar, hung up on me then proceeded to charge me $100 late fee without giving me the chance to explain why and the situation. I guess they need the money more than I do. With this type of hospitality, I wouldn't be surprised if this restaurant closes soon. AVOID!
One of the worst meals I've ever been served. The halibut was tough and unseasoned, the corn coulis could have been interesting but was just not well executed. There was an inch thick slice of undercooked onion taking up space on the plate, very confusing as to what it was supposed to contribute. The popovers were dense and cold in the middle. The grits were cold, and the collard greens were ok but a little bland. The swordfish was moist, but there was very little of the blackening seasoning on it. The restaurant had such potential but was really disappointing.
Food was bland and inedible. Owners were very polite, however we paid for a meal that we barely touched. Drinks and service were great. Not going to be returning
Absolutely disgusting experience. The food was gross poorly prepared, cold, and honestly nauseating. I couldn’t even finish my meal. What made it even worse was watching a man who appeared to be a manager or owner publicly yell at and humiliate an employee in front of customers. It was uncomfortable, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable. No one should be treated like that, especially in a public setting. Between the terrible food and the toxic behavior, this place left a sick feeling all around. I will never return and would strongly recommend others stay away.
I ordered the sea bass. I don’t remember the portions being so small the last time I dined here; I can’t imagine how much smaller the small plates would be. The fish was bland and undercooked. Actually, I hate to say it, but the flavor was truly unpleasant, like it was bordering on rancid. I couldn’t even finish half of it and lost my appetite, which is totally unlike me. I politely and honestly informed the wait staff and he said he would talk to the chef and asked if I wanted something else instead. I declined, paid the check (which still had the sea bass charge) and we left. I will not be back.
Arrived and was told that half of the menu was not available even with a chalkboard out front showing one of them. We should have left. We both ordered black cod and one thin part of mine was cooked to mush and was inedible. The thicker part was soft but edible. This easily was the worst dining experience we have had in years.
I have never had a dinner service be so disastrous. Whether through inexperience, incompetence, or poor management, we were not served our meals. The entire service did not go well from start to finish. Upon arriving for our 5:30 reservation, we were told the online reservation system was not working. No problem, as there are still plenty of tables and we are seated right away. We’re told that the chef is new, so certain items may not be available. You would think a new chef would be fully trained before staffing solo? But no problem, we’ll try a different dish if need be. We put in an order for popovers and beers, but are told that they are out of that beer tonight. No problem, just water then. The popovers arrive and we are missing one. It seems that it has fallen off the plate before they brought it to our table. No problem, they replace it for us. The popover was not memorable, quite soggy and oily. They also did not give us any plates for sharing. 40 minutes into being seated, our meal order is finally taken. As we are waiting for our food, it becomes clear that the restaurant is severely understaffed, with only one waiter and one helper serving the entire restaurant. No one at the tables around us have any food on their tables. The tables seated outside come back in to see if they’ve been forgotten. A table of 4 in the corner leave after being served only waters. We’re not sure where our waiter has gone off to. At this point, they really need to stop seating people. An hour and a half after being seated, we flag the waiter to check the status of our food, giving them the benefit of the doubt. After some time, the waiter returns to let us know that the kitchen has lost our ticket, and our meals were never made. He offers to comp our appetizers. At this point, we’re realizing they won’t be making our food? And we must leave hungry having already waited for close to 2 hours. I suppose we should have spoken up earlier but we were giving them the benefit of the doubt. So we leave, and grab pizzas down the street instead. Keep in mind, we arrived at 5:30pm (the restaurant opens at 5) and left at 7:30pm. The tables that were seated after us still did not receive their entrees. Quite a disappointment.
Absolutely terrible experience compared the experience at their other location (Little River). I can't believe the vast difference in food, service and ambience between the 2 places. The one in Pacific Grove was absolutely horrendous experience. The one in Little River was absolutely incredible, which was why I am shocked how horrible Pacific Grove location turned out. Reasons why Wild Fish at Pacific Grove was an atrocious experience. -service was incredibly terrible = forgot our oysters order, he hardly came to check on us when we were the only ones at the restaurant ( on 1/15 @1230pm) because he was busy chatting it up with fellow server and chef, and had to flag him or fellow server to get any service. -food was horrible and lacked flavor = - smoked fish chowder was bland and hardly any fish in it, super thick, dark and unappealing visually - sword fish egg Benedict had over cooked egg, salty hollandaise sauce, potatoes were grey and under cooked. Tasted like a bunch of salt with wilted arugula - spicy shrimp boil with risotto was not spicy, uncooked risotto, very soupy and overcooked rubbery shrimp. - our food took 40mins to be given over cooked and terrible tasting. - the ambience.... So many fruit flies flying around front window dirty table. Mind you, we were the only ones in the restaurant to receive such horrible service, given a dirty table, with terribly over cooked food. Coming from service industry myself and knowing how the other wild fish location upholds themselves, the Pacific Grove location was absolutely horrendously atrocious experience. The server could have done better taking care of his guests and quit distracting the chef so the chef could have made proper food. When the server came by once to check on us, he clearly saw the egss overdone but did nothing about it. UNFORTUNATELY, We hadn't eaten that morning because we looked forward to eating at Wild Fish. SO, we ate what we could but what a complete disappointment. We won't be returning to Wild Fish...to either locations and suggest to others to avoid at all costs the Pacific Grove Location. Only positive, the drinks were decent.
