This place is so cute! The food is great! And the people are SO kind!
This was a cute little cafe with great food and service. It's off the beaten path in Palmyra right on the Erie canal.
Love this place. Great food and gorgeous view on the Erie Canal..wonderful owner.
Great food, great customer service, Donna is very nice. Will be making this a regular stop.
Definitely worth visiting - excellent coffee and a terrific menu. Great location on the canal and incredibly kind owner.
This is the cutest little luncheon spot on the canal in Palmyra. Absolutely fabulous sandwiches.
The food was ready in no time. Plenty of options. It was super delicious. It is the best food I’ve had around here.
Excellent food great customer service I would highly recommend
Great place for a coffee or smoothie. Good food, friendly service. Right off the Erie canal trail.
Great food, lovely location, and friendly folks. I highly recommend for breakfast or lunch!!
super good food! in a cute, pretty location!
Sweet experience with great service and a view. Loved our sandwiches and Blueberry lemonade
One of the best town you will find. And when Summer will be here again it will be the place you want to be at. Love Muddy Waters Cafe. I mean how can you not.
Very small but friendly place to have breakfast or lunch! Food is delicious! Would recommend!
Such variety for a small cafe! Perfect stop along the Erie Canal trail for a meal, snack, drink or overnight with camp sites bathrooms and showers!
Super nice place! Amazing food!
Friendly service. Good food. Beautiful views! Great deck.
Love this place! Food is always great. Nice atmosphere. Best place in Palmyra! Good prices.
One of the best sandwiches I've ever had.
Food was good, though a little pricy, and the server/cook was very personable.
My wide and I came for lunch before a wedding, I had a wonderful panini and she got a iced coffee. We st on the deck overlooking the little river outback. It was a great little date!
Relaxed atmosphere on the Erie Canal. Great stop for a fresh bite and a breeze on the deck! My favorite is the Rudder, a grilled veggie panini with a delicious garlic sauce.
It has good small town atmosphere. Great owner, tasty sandwiches and organic coffee. Oh and amazing view on the canal.
Owner is wonderful, nice atmosphere
Was heading to a Corporate coffee place in palmyra when I drove by this little spot. Needless to say, I’m glad I did! Great coffee, great food and a wonderful owner. I will be back for sure!
What a hidden gem!! Great service in a beautiful setting. Can't wait til spring to sit out on the patio and watch people and boats using the canal.
The decor of the canalside café is nautical. The service is personal. Regulars are on a first name basis. Newbies are welcomed with small town charm. Your experience will be relaxed and your taste buds will be happy. ~Kristy
The sandwich and lemonade were SO GOOD!! Highly recommend the #4 sandwich and strawberry lemonade. And it’s just a cute place with nice people :)
Great little place on the canal. Very charming and homey. Food has always been delicious.
A REAL GEM! Friendly local cafe with great good, reasonable prices. The menu is varied enough to merit regular visits. Great Erie Canal location.
A really quaint restaurant with an amazing setting. The food was really good and was made with quality ingredients. Really enjoyed our experience dining here.
We love Muddy Waters! Donna is the best and sweetest. The menu is innovative and Donna is always willing to lend a hand helping us select, too.
Right off canal trail. Great breakfast! Veggie omelet, super friendly. Overlooks canal harbor. Gotta come back for lunch on next trip.
Nice home town cafe, nautical theme, quaint friendly atmosphere. The food is fresh and very tasty, a nice selection of wraps, sandwiches and home made soups
Nice, cozy stop on the Erie Canal. Great way point or end point for bike rides. Everything from cookies & coffee to lunch & beer.
They are so accommodating to those of us who aren't meat and dairy waters. Warm and welcoming atmosphere and now my new Favorite local spot.
Awsome breakfast. Amazing chocolate chip cookie! Very bike friendly and informative owner. Restaurant is perfectly situated off the Erie Canal Trail next to a pavilion with hot showers charging and a beautiful camping area. Must stop if riding the canal trail
Delightful little cafe along the Erie Canal. Salad and paninis were freshly made to order. Homemade cookies were soft and delicious. Service was friendly!
Great place with "foodie" owner. Wife and I went here for a afternoon date and loved the paninis.I got a roast beef sandwich that had a good portion of roast beef that was still red after being presses which was impressive because most come back overdone. Wife got a veggie panini with freshly cut veggies that still had some bite to them even after being pressed. After we talked with the owner and you can tell that this is a labor of love. Great place will be going back for Friday night pizzas when they get it back up and running. Only suggestion would to have cold side salads options or different chip options instead of just potato chips.
Donna, the cookies we took with us are delicious! Thanks for the great breakfast.
Muddy Waters has delicious food and even better service. My grilled sandwich was the perfect bite to follow a busy morning in downtown Palmyra. If you're interested in a quaint café along the historic Eerie Canal, this is the place to go!
Just moved up here from Georgia. This was a nice little spot for breakfast sandwiches. The owner was very nice and the atmosphere is pretty cool. Thanks and we will be back
Two super sweet ladies making delcious paninis and salads. The fresh lemonades are also excellent. I highly recommend.
This is a delightful little place on the banks of the Erie Canal. I tried the Hoodledash Panini which was delicious. It felt almost like eating from my mother's kitchen. If you're here tour the LDS sites or even if you're not, this is a great place to get a bite to eat.
Great service and delicious food. I frequently do take-out here, but in the summer, a meal on the large deck overlooking the canal is a delightful experience.
Fresh sandwich bread and delicious sandwich! Real nice view of the canal as the Cafe is near the canal bank. The proprietor is extremely pleasant and accommodating.
Great coffee-beer and thirst-quenchers (were here twice). Bakery just out of the oven and good sandwiches. Great location on the bike trail overlooking the canal.
This place is DARLING and the food is so delicious!!!! The sandwiches we had were outstanding. The ladies running the restaurant are so sweet. And the atmosphere is just charming. It feels like I walked back in time going to lunch here in this charming little house. I’m so glad we stopped here for lunch!
Great stop while bicycling along the Empire State Trail. We got our water bottles refilled and enjoyed some delicious chocolate chip cookies!
This place is adorable and the owner is so friendly! She makes the most delicious sandwiches and the cafe is intimate, very cozy and right on the canal with outdoor deck seating available. I love being able to support small business owners who work hard. Go visit and enjoy an amazing homemade meal!
From out of town. Chose this place for a bite to eat because I loved the name. Food was exceptional, reasonably priced, timely, and the owner is very cordial and pleasant. The scenery from the dining area overlooking the canal is very placating. Next time I am heading through Palymra, I will definitely make it a point to stop in again.
This is the most wonderful place. Food is excellent, and the staff is fantastic. My sister and I ate there today (it was the 2nd time we were there), and the 2 nice ladies actually remembered us. Such a great experience sitting outside on the peaceful deck looking at the canal. We will definitely be back.
The owner and her two daughters have a phenomenal cafe on the waters edge of the Erie Canal. Such a cool setting! The sandwich that I got brought a much higher level of culinary delight than any of the cafes that I have eaten at around the world. If you are in town and craving great food, Muddy Waters Cafe will not disappoint. Well done ladies!!!
What a gem of a place! Stumbled upon it when biking the Erie Canal Trail this week. The food was great, the service was great and the atmosphere was great! I was there for breakfast. Hope to go back in the evening some day and enjoy a pint on their patio.
This is the cutest little restaurant! It’s a little cafe with a great view of the Erie Canal that looks like it used to be a house. We loved the sandwiches and they put them together fast. Even though we were coming close to closing time, they were very gracious and didn’t complain at all. The ladies who run the place were so chatty and sweet.
I had a cookie here... that's all, but it was great! It's a neat little hole in the wall, and I was glad to serendipitously find on a rainy bike ride! Cute, cozy and yummy!
Love the sandwiches and freshly baked cookies! Beautiful setting and inviting, homey cafe. The owner is very nice and goes out of her way to ensure everything is perfectly prepared! Highly recommended! 🥰
I love this local spot serving up sandwiches, salads, drinks, and cookies. In a town filled with mostly heavy food options, this is a welcome change and feels like you’re having a meal at a friend’s home. The portions are perfect and the location, especially in the warmer months, can’t be beat.
Our food was so fresh and hot, hubby had to let his egg and bagel cool. The BLT is the best I've had in a long time, tasty tomato fresh lettuce and the right amount of mayo.
Have heard good things about this place for several years so, when a friend and I were looking for a place to meet up near Palmyra, we thought we'd give Muddy Waters a try. Small cozy dining room overlooking the Canal was perfect atmosphere for conversation. We both ordered a breakfast sandwich on a ciabatta roll. It was as good as any I've had ever.
Stopped in here the morning after Halloween. It was sooooo charming! The owner was the cook and cashier. No table side service. We split a delicious turkey, basil and Swiss cheese panini. It was delicious! Feel like $3 for a cup of coffee was steep but the sandwich was reasonably priced at $9.50, I think. There is outside seating in warmer months as well. Decor is very charming... Donna, the owner isn't very warm or chatty but she's got a nice place. Definitely would recommend this place and plan to return.
It was my second time here, last time was about a year ago probably. Food was amazing. When I cashed out the owner said I was good luck because last time I came in it was busy too. I couldn't believe she remembered me. (I did order the same thing, sat in the same spot and put my headphones in and watched YouTube again, so, that might be why) excellent food, excellent people. Check it out
Imagine your mom and your favorite aunt owned a restaurant. The sandwiches and salads are delicious. The portions are not huge, so we ordered an extra full salad to share between us in addition to our sandwiches. Excellent food and also a fantastic setting. Make sure to get there early before it closes at two.
This place has a restaurant upstairs and a rental room downstairs. The restaurant has very nice people. Both staff and regular customers were all very friendly. Very good food. Very nice location. Very nice view of the canal. It has been recently renovated and is very clean and cozy. The owner also has a room she rents downstairs. We rented the room for a few nights and it was very well appointed. It has a small kitchen and roomy bathroom attached to an aircondioned bedroom with sitting area and private patio on the water. We will be recommending it to friends.
Nice little place.... really good sandwiches. Very friendly service. I would certainly recommend the Muddy Waters Cafe. When asked if we'd been in before, we had not, so she recommended her #2 and the #4 paninis.... they were the very best paninis that I've ever had.... juicy and chewy.... the bread was wonderful and the sauce was off the charts good. If I'm ever in the area again, I would not hesitate to go back and take friends.
Great spot to stop in and visit. Staff is friendly and funny. The drinks and food are good too!
Pleasant staff, hand made sandwiches of good quality and a superb outdoor deck.
Super good food, very nice staff and great location on the Erie Canal. Doesn't quiet get you enough for what your paying. But overall very Great!
Food was fresh, reasonable pricing given the times. Only reason for 4-stars is the owner didn't seemed sort of miserable. Good location though.
Great food, friendly service, and reasonable prices. I'm taking off 1 star because they do not take credit cards. That is very inconvenient. Who doesn't take credit cards these days? And who bothers to carry around cash?
View of Erie Canal is great. We went for lunch and technically after lunch hours, but they stayed opened and accommodated our party of 8. This is a family run restaurant, a nice place to grab a quick sandwich or linger over a meal.
A great, simple little place. Perfect for lunch. Delicious ingredients for the right size meal. Combination hands on/personal service, great location on the canal. Would not hesitate to go again, highly recommend.
Food was excellent and deck and dining areas overlook the canal - beautiful setting right on the canal path. And the cookies were really good! The lady helping us, however, must have been having a bad day as she was curt and not very pleasant. Unfortunately, that left us with a bad impression of Palmyra, as unfair as that is.
This is a very cool little place. It has a vast sandwich menu, prices were reasonable. Lots of drink options. The nautical and canal theme was very unique. The view from the deck was great. I would have given this place 4 1/2 stars if that was an option. The only negatives... The server was mixing up orders and the business hours are odd.
Food is pretty good! A little bummed that sanitation and a clean atmosphere and dishes aren't a priority.
A sandwich always tastes better when someone else makes it. The sandwiches are good, but nothing special. a small BLT is $6.50 and you get like 15 chips with it. The location is nice and convenient near the Erie Canal/bike path.
Good food and a beautiful location. Love the look of this little gem in our area. Wish the person who served my friend and I and made our food had been a little friendlier though. I don’t think I’ll come back because of the lack of friendly service.
I rarely give bad reviews, but I have to for this place... The lady at the counter was sweet and the food was actually decent but as we were eating we noticed two small cockroaches crawling out of the air vent above the water table. We also saw them crawling out of the trash can that was under the water table. My wife couldn’t eat one more bite and I didn’t want to cause a scene so I just paid and we left. I noticed they are under renovation so maybe that’s why the restaurant is in disrepair but that’s no excuse. The kitchen looked cluttered which made me think there’s no way proper food safety is being followed. I know that most restaurants deal with pests and rodents to some degree but it didn’t seem normal. When I got to the car I searched the health inspection site and found that *supposedly* Muddy Waters Cafe hasn’t been inspected since 2015 and that there were MANY infractions regarding cleanliness and improper food safety precautions. That made us even more sick to our stomach. I know there are so many reviews from people who came based on recommendations from locals but health inspections don’t lie. I really wanted to like this place but you can’t look past some things. They have a lot of work to do to make the place acceptable as far as cleanliness.
waitress was the rudest and most obnoxious one I have ever seen to customers..salad I had was rotten brown micro greens..but the waitress was horrible and I have eaten in thousands of restaurants..I hope she is special otherwise so sad .
Lady that worked there (owner maybe) was so incredibly rude. She was short with me and she was annoyed that I brought my children with me to pick up an order. I had never been here and was excited to visit. She basically told us that it would be a while then the next couple that came in after us she said it would be a little bit of a way and offered them a drink while they waited and sat them. She didn't offer us anything or to be seated. Then she rudely told me that she rushed my order like she needed me to leave even though my kids were good. Definitely don't go here if you have children to take.
I stop in for lunch. The lady there was sweet at 1st. Then I felt like I was rush to order something. I am one of those people that needs time to figure out what I want. After I order a sandwich. I noticed that she put her hands inside of bag of chips. I am one of those people don't touch my food with your bare hands. Gross. The bread was little hard to chew. I got 1 piece of bacon on my sandwich and was not cooked through. The drink that I got was too small for the price. And I pay more for the ice. So I got some water go with my food. She comes over ask if I was done. I said yes. I want to grab my drink of water. She took it with her. Then as I was leaving a gentleman came in. She said she closed at 2pm. It was 2:30pm. I got there at 2pm. She kept being rude to him. That's not how you treat your customers. For the price I pay for the food, the sandwich should been little bigger. She over price her food.
Don't know if it was an off day. After reading the reviews, we were anxious to try this place. The breakfast menu was limited plus she didn't have everything in stock. The coffee was only luke warm and there is an additional charge for refills and to warm up the coffee. The breakfast sandwich was just average. Didn't feel welcome. We felt like we were bothering the person working there. Greatly disappointed.
I was looking forward to coming here with my 3yr old daughter; the staff was extremely rude and “rushed” our order so we could leave. Not sure if they were having a bad day, but the level of annoyance they exhibited was unprofessional (especially when my daughter was sitting quietly coloring). I don’t recommend this place to families because they obviously don’t want them there.
Outside is beautiful! This genuinely looked like a wonderful place to eat. However, our family of 14 was too overwhelming for the staff and they were frustrated at the children who were asking questions to decide what to order. I think it must’ve been on off day for the staff because we have never received service so unkind:( We ended up eating elsewhere, but I’m sure it would have been a great place if they hadn’t been so stressed about the order.
Rude staff (the old lady). The young one at the register was nice even though she didn’t told me about the “included-optional” ingredients (I’ll come to that). I asked for a sandwich called “navi”. It was a ham, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and mayo sandwich. I waited a good 20 minutes (no sorry about the wait for me like she told everyone else) and noticed that the lettuce and the tomatoes were missing when she dropped it on my table. I politely asked her why my sandwich did not come with the lettuce and the tomatoes and the old lady responded to me that I was supposed to “ask for them”. Ask for ingredients that were supposed to be in the sandwich in the first place. It does make sense, right? I dropped the sandwich at the counter like she told me to so she could add the missing ingredients and she rushed back to my table after 2 minutes and almost threw the whole thing on my table like I was a dog or something. I took a picture of how half of my sandwich looked like when she put it on my table. Really? Do another job if you can’t handle rush hour. Service jobs are not for you. You don’t even deserve one star. Nasty people don’t. I don’t care whether you had a bad day or not. You should never take your misery on your customers. Or maybe that was due to my French accent and my afro hair. I guess I’ll never know.
