Opinions de Happy Donuts Palo Alto
I my opinion, this is the best place in the world to get an apple fritter. 20 years ago, this would have been "University Donuts" in San Diego, but this is the best place now.
Donuts the universal happiness. Looking for a great early morning start or afternoon snack. Pull on up and get your grub on . They got it all and a few surprises too. Just ask 😊
Super low key, gem of a donut shop! Have to try their croissant donuts and croissant donut holes if you like more sweets in each bite. Friendly atmosphere and welcoming staff.
Donuts were fresh and a huge variety. Dough was just sweet enough, and the cream filling was like bavarian custard. Delicious@!@
Delicious doughnuts. Staff here are very nice and they go above and beyond to service you.
Always friendly, always generous and tasty sandwiches for the price. Great donuts.
The best breakfast sandwiches made to order!
My kids told me that if I bring a donut looking box home and it doesn't have actual donuts inside then they will disown me: Happy Donuts never disappoints 2024 edit: still good
Awesome donuts! Sweet lady at the counter. Really good coffee too!
A very large selection of donuts, even cronuts :) The donuts are fresh and not greasy. We bought several dozen to share at work. Everyone loved them.
this is the best donut place I’ve ever been to. Get a variety because you don’t want to miss any of them!
We always visit Happy Donuts for all our special occasions and buy their delicious cronuts there. Our family loves eating Happy Donuts! Yum!
I have been coming here for a long time, donuts are always amazing they even have breakfast sandwiches,bagels,burgers/fries and delicious smoothies where you can add boba this pace will always be a favorite. I highly recommend if you want breakfast, lunch to chill or to work!
Great Cronuts, donuts and awesome Breakfast! The best part of this place is the wonderful staff! No matter how busy, they always smile, genuinely ask how you are.. They actually notice the days I am just off my shift, and exhausted, offering my hot mocha asap! Love this place
This place is AWESOME! My husband loves cruellers & loved theirs, but The cronuts are AMAZING! And they have cronut holes! My personal favorite was the sugared...it reminded me of a croissant churro...delicious! If you don't get one, you are missing out! Go here immediately & get a cronut!
Great Donuts! Great service!
Update: still my favorite donut spot in the area. The whole cronuts are amazing, and it is absolutely wonderful that they serve Vietnamese coffee. My Friday treat for the department. Great cronut holes. They also offer custard filled cronut holes.
Happy Donuts is easily my favorite donut shop. Inexpensive, delicious donuts, quirky decor (check out the huge donut on the ceiling), huge selection, great staff. I want to give a special shoutout to their breakfast burritos – really delicious and shockingly affordable in comparison other options in Palo Alto. Their staff is sweet — I've shown up there multiple times with groups of over 30, and they just take it in stride, often throwing in an extra bag of croinut holes. Oh, by the way, you HAVE to try the croinuts! 10/10 would recommend, be it 3am or 1pm.
Wide selection of donuts, also include coffee and other snacks. Quick service. Park on El Camino if possible, the store parking exit lane is riddled with potholes.
I love happy donuts! We go there every saturday night as a hangout spot and get donuts and drink. They are super cheap, and have donuts, croissants and more. The drink selection is great, with drinks ranging from coke to snapple to martinelli's apple juice to chocolate milk. Support this buisness!
We visit the area occasionally and love their donuts. The service is always so friendly. They have other offerings besides donuts like sandwiches, etc. Highly recommended!
Love Happy Donuts! Unfortunately they're not open 24 hours anymore but the donuts are still fresh and delicious. It is definitely our go-to donut spot in Palo Alto.
For some reason Happy Donuts is showing up on Google as new, but it's been here forever. The donuts are a little pricy but it's a great place to sit and relax. They have some sandwiches and snacks. A lot of people playing board games in here too since they have plenty of tables for a donut shop.
Where else can you go to get a donut or breakfast. I love their breakfast burritos. I am always greeted warmly and the staff remembers me. Highly recommend happy donuts. You can't go wrong.
A nice, quiet, affordable 24-hour shop not far from Stanford University. Good place to get a bite and do some studying, especially night owls. Excellent selection, including boba tea and smoothies, burgers, sandwiches, donuts, pastries, and more.
These guys always have fresh doughnuts and decent prices. Me and my coworkers choose these over other places.
This place had a giant selection of donuts at a very reasonable price (about $1 per donut). Friendly staff and clean environment. There is also parking in in front of and around the shop, so it is definitely my go-to donut place now.
I absolutely love this donut shop! All the workers are so sweet, they make the best pastries in the area. I've been going to this shop for years and have always had a good experience. Remember to bring cash instead of paying with a card 🍩🍩🍩
Fresh, efficient& clean. The donuts were so good. I love it. Ive shared photos with a friend and he made a special trip down to Palo Alto for apple fritters and more
At 9:45 pm last night, just before they were set to close at 10 pm, we got super fresh donuts, still warm and they melted in our mouths -- absolutely amazing!
I love stopping by this place when I’m in the Mountain View/San Jose area. They have fresh, tasty donuts every day. I love their vanilla chai as well. The customer service is great too!
One of the few all night doughnut shops in the Bay Area. Doughnuts are prepared fresh throughout the day and the sheer variety is a sight to behold. They also offer hamburgers and croissant wrapped hotdogs which are must try items.
Local staple for tasty donuts any time. The people are always very nice and service is quick. The hot sandwiches for breakfast are also very good. However, avoid the milkshakes because I don’t think they’re worth it. Also, parking is a little difficult because you have to exit through an alley in the back. Regardless, come here for a nice cheap treat!
Fantastic donuts. Fresh, fluffy, and delicious. Also had a bacon egg and cheese sandwich that was really good. Nice old school vibe on the inside.
Simple and unassuming shop, but the service & selection were great! The egg & cheese croissants were delicious, as were each of the donuts we tried. Highly recommend!
This is one of my favorite donut shops. You'll never get a mediocre donut there, as they use the finest ingredients and the food preparers are experts. They also have a wide selection of meals such as hamburgers, sandwiches, breakfast items and much more. I've known the staff for a long time and they add a lot to the experience by being friendly and engaging. The seating area is relatively large and always clean. It can be a bit noisy inside during peak periods of road traffic and customer activity, but that's to be expected in a popular restaurant. If you like this kind of food and are driving by, be sure to stop by and enjoy what they have to offer.
So thankful to live close to this Happy Donuts! The staff are very friendly and the donuts consistently hit. I strongly recommend coming for breakfast/lunch and getting their croissant sandwiches
We stayed at the Nest Hotel nearby and ended up eating the majority of our breakfasts here. So glad we found this instead of settling for Starbucks. The coffee here is tasty- though nothing to write home about. What were the real standouts were the pastries. The cronuts, cronut holes, and apple fritter were all top-notch and the prices were really reasonable. I also tried a bagel which was pretty good. On the whole this place is a gem and if I am ever back in Palo Alto I would definitely make a point to revisit.
We love this place. A warm and friendly family run outfit. They have watched my daughter grow up from a munchkin into a string bean. We all credit their fabulous donuts for her growth. A must visit place in Palo Alto for sure.
Great doughnuts, fritters and cronuts. Large indoor seating area. If you park in the parking lot, be forewarned that you'll need to exit through a very bumpy alleyway that is sometimes mostly underwater - but there is street parking available.
Beautiful, light, fluffy donuts. The plain glazed is my go-to here. This place is open 24 hours, and late at night the crowd can be eclectic, but that's part of the ambience. Definitely my favourite donut shop in the Bay Area.
The dusted donut holes are the best. Light, airy, not too sweet. The other donuts are all delicious albeit too sweet for my liking. They are definitely the best in the area, and really reasonably priced. The staff seems friendly and efficient.
Great coffee and breakfast sandwiches! The donut selection is superb.
Appears to be a nice family place. Parents and children of all ages hanging out drinking coffee, hot chocolate eating donuts. For me something new. Never heard of it before but it was delicious. Chocolate covered custard filled cronut. Very tasty. I'll be back for these. Update if you are looking for a cronut? Make certain it's early in the day they sell out very quickly. Had to settle for a cinnamon chocolate twist. The only down side... The road exciting the establishment is one way through an ally. Potholes that swallow cars. Yes that big!
love their cronuts-- especially there cinammon cronut holes; large varieties of yummy donuts also
Best apple fritters. Period. Haven't found elsewhere that's better in more than 20 years of searching.
Delicious donuts! This is the gold standard in town. The dough is soft, fresh, and not too oily. The sugary donuts are not so overwhelmingly sweet that you can't taste the dough. Filings are just the right amount and you can actually taste the flavor of them, aka not too sweet. I love the giant donut on the ceiling. Pricing is reasonable. What are you waiting for?
The donuts are really good, at a fair price. The apple fritters are amazing. The pieces of apple on it are great. The apple fritters are crunchy and chewy. French crueller is also amazing. Also got a purple ube donut. It tastes like a normal good donut, but didn't taste like ube. Good place to swing by and get a tasty donut.
A great establishment! Friendly staff. Donuts are large, freshly baked, and super-fluffy. Prices, especially by Bay Area standards, are eminently reasonable too! I was able to buy a medium black coffee (16oz) with cream and two donuts (glazed and crumb) for $5.75. The only "gotcha" I would note is that there is a $5 minimum charge if you plan to use a credit card. Will definitely visit again! 🥳🎉
Lovely service, great breakfast sandwitches, coffee and of course, donuts!
Aside from the delicious assortment of donuts and baked goods, this place has fantastic breakfast sandwiches. I got an egg and bacon croissant which was cooked perfectly and ready within minutes. Everyone here is really friendly and they have great prices on all the food. There's also a nice selection of drinks available to pair with your meal.
Love Happy Donuts! So soft, not too sweet, and a great variety. The sour cream & the sprinkle are my favorite so far. Great store hours, sufficient parking, friendly service, & reasonable prices. Will continue to be a customer.
Photo of half eaten donut because I couldn’t wait to take a bite. Happy Donuts is great. I’ve been coming here for over two decades. I first came here when it was 24 hours and Stanford Driving School was next door and we’d eat donuts for lunch. Their donuts are yummy, fresh and reliable. Come hang and play board games. Get donuts for Sunday brunch or that business meeting you have coming up. Highly recommend.

very solid glazed. nice airy crumb and softness characteristic of a well-risen, well-fried yeasted donut. also has a nostalgic artificial vanilla flavor, in a good way.
Sometimes I go down to Happy donuts in South Palo Alto I've been going there for over 20 years I remember when I was growing up and it was a bike shop and they were motorcycles in the hells Angels owned it and boy you could just imagine what went through that place before we got happy donuts but anyway say the best in Palo Alto. Take it from a local man who made it good in Palo Alto the best old fashioned donuts and coconut dusted glazed donuts are wonderful try the apple fritters they're good too can't go wrong with happy donuts cuz you always leave happy
Tons of donuts to choose from even at 3 in the afternoon on a Sunday. Service was fast. Interior of the store was quite spacious. Lots of seating, tables were not too close to each other which was a plus. Prices were very reasonable.
I'm paralyzed and I roll over here for breakfast often. All of the ladies that work here are always happy and happy to help. In my case I need extra assistance because of my disability. By just being observant, the person checking me out is aware that I may need some extra help, which is always always offered and appreciated. My favorite happy Donuts I've ever been to. Have mercy, the breakfast besides the donuts is amazing. Any croissant sandwich any bagel breakfast sandwich any breakfast period! Great place to go to
Happily to eat these donuts, come here when you want a delicious donut. Way better than anything else in the area, and same price.
Dont get me started on how great this place is. I am 17 years old I moved to palo alto when i was 5 and have been going here year round since i was 5 years old. This place is to good whenever i want a doughnut forget the mainstream shops i go here. they are some of the best doughnuts you can have the flavor the dough its all so good. and the people that work there are so kind happy and amazing people to do business with. i pray this place never goes out of business because it will be the day i stop eating doughnuts. please come eat and support if you can its worth it and it helps out a small business. also very affordable doughnuts like very affordable. the one thing that is a bit high in price is their drinks but business is business. overall 10/10 please come and support them (also if you guys are hiring i would love to get into contact!).
A Palo Alto staple. Open 24 hours so you can always come here! Their donuts are great and they have food too. Fantastic refuge

Almost didn't go because no one answered after 3 calls. I thought they were closed. The food is really good though and made fresh. They really should answer their phone (who knows how much business they are losing) but they are very nice and it's worth it.
Scrumdelicious croinuts lemon-filled donuts maple Bars old fashioned maple love the giant donut on the ceiling it's so cute. Very clean inside. Very friendly staff.
Nice old fashioned donut shop! They had cinnamon rolls, Clover milk, and Martinelli's. If the had a Dirty Harry pinball machine, it'd be perfect!
Lots of donuts choices but my favorites seem to be always out late morning. Never had any of the food items but they seem to have a following. The lsdies running the front are pleasant and helpful.
One of the best donut placee in Silicon Valley. Good selection. Great amount of other menu items. Big tables. Hometown feeling. Unfortunately it loses a star from me due to no longer being open 24 hours. Parking exits still aren't great, so there's that
Im giving 3.4 for the food specifically the donuts. The breakfast sandwiches are normal. It’s like someone doesn’t know how to not add gum into the dough. It’s gummy not like the way it should be. Especially the buttermilk is supposed to be way more cake-like, instead its overly gummy connected tissue. Also you must leave the parking lot the same way you came in, don’t try to exit any other way. Maybe this was just my experience-the baker slipped and dropped the gum container into the dough. Also there is a slight taste of licorice in the glaze.
Delicious and cheap donuts! The cronut holes are the best thing on the menu- get a bag and you won't be disappointed. The inside is a little dreary, not somewhere you want to stay long. The staff are always friendly. Parking is a little rough.
It's in a very unassuming dull building, but the pastries here are spectacular. The apple fritter is the best that I have ever tasted and the cronuts are so good as well. We've tried a lot of goodies here and I cannot say enough of how good they are and reasonably priced too. The employees are nice and helpful as well. I didn't notice if the place is open for open dining already.
Great donuts, as others have shared (love my old fashioned). The apple fritters are huge! I've removed one start because every time I've gone in the coffee is old - been sitting on the burner for over an hour. No mention of "give me the minutes and I'll make s fresh pot" or something like that. I may be overly critical here because I'm in at odd times, mid-morning (e.g. 10:00). Still...
Great donuts, breakfast sandwichs....they keep it COLD in there, no heat....none. always that way for years
I've updated my review and gave 5 stars across the board. They did a complete do over of the interior. New flooring, lighting and paint colors. Went from dimly lit to nice and bright. What a difference. Got breakfast croissant sandwiches today. Freshly scrambled eggs with bacon and cheese on a large, lightly toasted croissant. Can't beat it. As always the staff is all smiles and friendly. If you've ever hesitated to try Happy Donuts you should give them a go.
On the 'rare' occasion I crave sweet fried dough and I can't make it to Portland, OR for a Blue Star donut, or New Orleans for some beignets, I end up at Happy Donuts. Better than Safeway, and I would say on par with Krispy Kreme. (KK wins if you want to see the donuts being made in front of you) If you want a puffy airy soft pillow, always go with the plain glazed classic circle. I usually just get one of those, but their twists looked so pretty in the display case today I got one too. (The twists due to the braided shape are a tad denser than aforementioned circle pillows, but still pretty soft and just as good in their own way.) Then I realized I didn't have enough cash for their $5 minimum (this never happens at Blue Star bc one donut is about $5 😉), so I had to get a third donut. It's a hard knock life 😆. I was done eating before I thought to take a pic, I like that the donuts here are not greasy, as you can see the undersides are nice and clean. Some donut shops you get debris from dirty trays and some oiliness squishes through, but not at this Happy Donuts. We always go in the morning, and the oil is never rancid. This has happened at some other donut shops on the peninsula, where a decent donut was spoiled by bad grease, but not here. Staff is always pretty jolly too. This particular location is easy to miss, due to their location but it's got a good turnover. We drive past regularly, and often see young kids in Stanford shirts walking away with boxes of donuts (to power them thru their studies/late nite munchies). This location has parking as well.
I stopped by this donut shop and ended up trying more than just the donuts. The burger set was a nice surprise. They make the burger fresh after you order, so it takes a little time, but it’s worth it—the veggies were really fresh and the whole thing felt a lot better than your average fast-food burger. The fries don’t season them much, so you kinda have to use the ketchup, but they were decent. For the drink, you get a can, and I went with a 7UP for something light and refreshing. The donuts come in a wide variety, and I went with a whipped cream one—you can pick between chocolate or maple, and I chose maple. The cream inside was smooth and not overly sweet, and the maple flavor gave it a nice balance. It’s still indulgent, but not overwhelmingly sugary, which made it easy to enjoy without feeling too heavy. The staff here are super friendly and welcoming, which really adds to the experience. Overall, it’s a great spot where you can grab a fresh burger and fries but also finish off with a donut that’s indulgent without being too sweet.

Great service. I came around 7pm. Got a fritter and 6 donut holes. It was all kind of stale. I know it's late in the day, but it was surprising considering the massive amount of donuts they had.
Good value compared to Starbucks across the street. Fairly bare bones interior. Good food. Fun iconic decor - giant donut in the ceiling space.

It was ok. By the rave reviews I had higher expectations. They don't taste like "regular" doughnuts but they honestly weren't all they're jazzed up to be.
It used to be a rite of passage to study all night at happy donuts. A bygone era now that they’re removing outlets and closing so early. The donuts are still good but the spirit is long gone.
Went on Mother's Day. Good selection. Cinnamon rolls not very flavorful but dough is good. Jelly filled Raspbery not much flavor gooey no texture. Dough was good. Just not what I expected based on reviews. Disappointed. Friendly staff. Dark and dingy shop.
Tries to treads the line between inexpensive and premium donuts. Offers a semi-wide variety of your run-of-the-mill donuts along with some speciality ones, such as cronuts, twisted donuts, etc. More expensive than a Safeway donut, but the donut itself just isn't quite at that level. They taste exactly like a cheap 50¢ donut--the same deep fried and sweet mess. (It's yummy, don't get me wrong, but I was expecting something a bit more). At the very least, the location is fairly nice, with lots of seating and a quiet atmosphere. I could see myself coming for a cheap coffee and self indulging bite while trying to get some work done.
Note the following surcharges / fees: 3.99% credit card fee Please get rid of this fee and incorporate it into your prices as the cost of doing business. Sneaky fees make the customer experience unpleasant. I am steering my business away from food establishments with fees and supporting those with inclusive pricing instead. You can get all the usual donuts here as well as cronuts, cronut holes, ube donuts, and cute heart-shaped donuts. Contrary to the signage out front, they are no longer open 24 hours. No outdoor seating is available at this location.
Usually this food is great which is why we go there instead of Starbucks. But today… the bagels were flat , they skimped on the egg and there was only one piece of non-crispy bacon! So disappointed!

Ordered 2 maple bars, 2 chocolate glazed with sprinkles and an apple fritter. After taking a couple bites of the chocolate glazed, I realized the taste and texture was off. While the outside looks cooked, the inside was still fairly raw. Maybe hard to tell from the pics but the dough was still sticky and stretchy. Tasted like raw dough with chocolate glaze. 2 stars because the other ones I got were fine.

Bought 2 dozen expensive stale doughnuts again 😋, I'm done buying here, I buy 2 dozen doughnuts for church every Friday, and every doughnut place like this one rip you off. Then they want a huge tip with a smile
Not great. Really tasted not fresh. Also the pricing seemed a lil' much for something so basic and low quality. It always feels like they are making up the price and no one wants to be there. It is also a bit gritty in there. Smell and flour dust. A bit dirty.
Used to be very good no matter what donuts you got, but now the chocolate they use is terrible. They went cheaper on ingredients but charge a premium price. I'd consider going to safeway bakery instead now unfortunately.
I ordered an Apple Fritter from Doordash. My driver was D. Tenzig. He did not bring it to the front desk, and left it in the front parking lot. I called him and told him I would meet him outside of the building. He refused because he had another delivery. I shouldn't have given him a tip. Can't get a hold of the business, no answer. Won't be ordering again. I'm done
So I just ordered from there three donuts and a Vietnamese iced coffee young lady took my order. Then she stops half of. It starts doing other orders and then completely forget to finish my order while I’m standing there looking around like when is my coffee gonna be done she has the nerve to keep looking at me with this weird look, and then she speaks her tongue at that she forgot to finish my coffee so she had the other girl finish it for me!! she had the nerve to look sideways
Today in the morning 5/27/24 . Bagel wasn’t toasted I asked for ham there wasn’t any. Also when they called out my number she threw the bag in the counter. Young girl with long black hair horrible attitude!
The service was good, prices were high, and the apple fritter I got was disgusting. It was way overcooked so it was almost black in color, super crunchy and soaked through with oil. It was like eating burnt toast and chasing it with a swig of olive oil. I threw it out but should have brought it back and got my money back. They should have thrown out the entire batch of burnt fritters. I can’t believe they were trying to sell them to customers. Gross!
