The food was delicious and the atmosphere distinct — a truly wonderful experience. The only negative was that the service was slow (place was busy) so be prepared for that and all will be amazing. Though the place was full of tourists like us, it definitely was NOT a tourist trap maintaining its authenticity. The history of the place is interesting and the decor inside reflects that — it feels one part biker bar and two parts cowboy/western saloon. The stage has hosted some incredible acts including Sir Paul McCartney, though there was no live music during our Friday afternoon visit. Food was very tasty ranging from steaks and burgers to BBQ (see menu image). There were also a lot of fun cocktails and drinks. We left with full bellies and smiles on our faces. It took about 40 minutes to get there from Palm Springs, but makes a great stop on way back from Joshua Tree National Park.

Atmosphere was great. Just heads about the place and stopped by. Service was wonderful. We got the tri tip sandwich and catfish sandwich, both were very good. Hope to go back for a show some day.

I interacted with a bartender, a hostess and a gentleman way out back that I believe was cooking on some type of grill or something outside. My food was ready very promptly and was cooked exactly as desired. I would absolutely give them a 10 out of 10 and go back again if ever in the area!! Unfortunately I didn't get to check out the nightlife!

I cannot say enough good things about this place. We just had lunch there and it was a wonderful experience. The Cobb salad was out of this world and the service was impeccable. Drew was amazing. He even gave us a little Tour and explained the history of the restaurant, we are very much looking forward to returning soon.! Everyone that works there seems very happy. They have such a great energy and made us feel very welcome. Emma was a excellent server!

Pappy & Harriet’s is an institution! Came here for a birthday and they did not disappoint. Live band was fab, and everyone enjoyed their meals. From the steak salad to the rack of ribs — we were all happy campers! We were quoted a 3 hour wait initially (?!?!) but when we came back 1 hour later to check in, they’d given away our table. So stick close by 😂 the saloon across the way is a damn great place to spend your time while waiting!

We were keen to visit on our trip to Pioneertown after reading the reviews, so made sure to stop past on arrival. There was a wait and we were asked to come back in 15-20 mins. At that stage there was a table, so we had a couple of quick drinks and some chips. A fascinating building and a nice way to round off the afternoon wandering Pioneertown. 🍻

Great experience. My waitress was lovely, and I enjoyed hanging out and seeing all the interesting people coming and going. Very eclectic and exciting outfits. I didn’t get to witness any live music but the music choice in the restaurant is 10/10. I read a review that recommended the tri tip nachos. They were super tasty. The fries and coleslaw were really good too! Sweet vibe, super cool place. Would definitely be back with friends or family for a day or fun exploring the area and good food.

My wife took an anniversary trip from Milwaukee and had dinner and a show and it was an amazing experience. So much so that we are coming back again this year for our anniversary! This place is beautiful and the music drinks and music experience were all an A+. Can't wait to come back!

Great spot! I ordered the brisket and ribs with Mac n cheese. All tasted great. Service was great though we did have to wait maybe 20 min to get our food (which I was fine with since the ribs and brisket were likely made to order).

We stopped in here on a rainy, cold day for lunch. The tri tip chili nachos were AMAZING. Literally one of the best things I ate on my trip. The beef melted in your mouth. Everything else was decent and what you would expect, but the nachos blew me away.

We got rib ribs and a burger here and split them and we both loved every single bite. The way to get into the front restaurant was really long and we had the dogs with us so we end up just eating out on the back patio. They do have heaters which made it a little bit more comfortablebut this place is just so busy so you have to come a little early in order to get a seat.

Epic landmark saloon and eatery in Pioneertown near Joshua Tree, now run by The Knitting Factory. Great menu for hangry folks and music venue featuring notable musicians and a deep history. Nice staff, good service and a location that was once a Hollywood western set back in the day. Look forward to going there again, great getaway.

Very cool place with great food and drinks and a killer atmosphere. Both a restaurant and music venue. While the concert going on outside was packed and lively, it did not affect the service inside. Would definitely go back and would love to attend one of the concerts next time.

My son found this place online so we stopped in after Joshua tree. The parking lot was so full, this place is very busy, but we waited maybe 45 min to get in, and I'm glad we waited. It has such an upbeat vibe, we didn't hear the music but for simple food, it was one of our best meals on our holiday. Their house salad was better than any high-end restaurant we had been to. The flavor was unbelievably good. The garlic mashed potatoes had great flavor, and the fish sandwich was also soo good. I hope to go back someday!

Staple of a trip up to Pioneer/Yucca valley. Stopped in here for a lunch, the space is great and the staff is kind. Fun inside. Got a burger and their chili nachos. Their beef that they have on this is craaaazy good. Highly recommend their chili.

This place has been around for 200 years. Bobby who was at the front entrance talked to me about the history of this unique place. ( no cover charge, great bands every night. The crowd when I arrived for the last set were a happy, fun group of all kinds of people. I saw no one who was drunk or rude in any way. I felt totally safe as an older woman alone.

B

Classic venue! Definitely an experience I will always remember. Staff was very helpful. No phone service which is normal for the area just be ready to load your maps etc. before you arrive. I was able to get a uber but their service will cut off before they arrive so plan your meet up spot before they are on the way.

Fantastic rustic out of the way restaurant bar and venue. Great BBQ and roadhouse food options and a full bar. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, both servers, bartenders and the staff working the show. Even when I stood in the wrong spot (exit walkway, probably for emergencies) the gentleman who asked me to move was very polite. As for going to a show there, the sound mix was very good. There's two stages, I heard there was an outdoor stage with space for maybe 1200 people and there is an indoor stage for about 350 max. For indoor shows, they start converting over the restaurant seating about 90-120 minutes before the show, and then have people wait in a line to get wrist bracelets to go into the part of the restaurant converted to venue. I'd recommend eating before the venue converts over. There was some table service even at a full show, but there's definitely no guarantee you'll get a table and a place to eat, and servers have a lot of people to navigate to get to tables. So eat before if you can, but if you're desperate, you can maybe work something out to eat.

This is a very casual BBQ restaurant in Pioneer Town with excellent food. Great rib and burgers, but i go for the nachos. Listed as with chili, but comes with tri tip. The place is always crowded, so expect to wait. Can be 2 hrs or more on a weekend. Walk through Pioneertown while waiting. They have music, starting around 9 with local musicians. Outdoor dining when it's warm.

Dinner + show is a winning combo here. We thoroughly enjoyed sitting at the bar and people watching before, during and after our meal. The restaurant was extremely busy in the lead up to that night’s music event (there was a 45 min wait for tables around 6pm) so be sure to get there early. There were people eating right up till the show started at 9pm but by then we had migrated into the room with the stage so that we could watch the band set up. It is such an intimate space, you’re basically within arm’s length of the musicians. We had such a great night. Be sure to check the calendar the day you visit in case there’s live music. And even if you aren’t familiar with the band, GO!

Great BBQ and an even better atmosphere! I can’t say enough about the Tri-tip! It was so tender and flavorful! My son had the 1/2 chicken, 1/2 pork ribs. They were both fall off the bone tender. I wish we weren’t so hungry or we would have taken a pic before it was gone! Oh, and the portions are insane! Plan on taking some home!

Chili nachos, family platter, fantastic. The sides r also really good esp the Mac and cheese. It doesn't look special but it's really good. Service is fast and outstanding. Ribs r the standout done on mesquite and the tri tip is great. The slightly spicy bbq sauce is really good.

Stopped for lunch after my sound bath at the Integritron in Landers. The drive through the Mojave was stunning. Curtis, the bartender was quite hospitable. The local patrons were welcoming. My bison burger was cooked to perfection and the homemade coleslaw was delicious. Well worth the drive if you are visiting the Palm Springs area.

We love Pappy And Harriet's so much My husband and I decided to have our Joshua Tree wedding reception dinner at this amazing place! It couldn't have been a more perfect night! There were two bands playing, the place was buzzing with energy which is what we love about being there and the food as always was excellent! Our guests were raving about the chicken, the fries, the mac & cheese and the star of the show where the brisket nachos! I hadn't even tried them until that night and I cannot wait to go back and have more now!!! Darcy, the manager for our event went above and beyond to make sure our special evening was unforgettable! The attention to detail and personalization she gave our wedding party blew our minds and it solidified that we definitely made the right choice for our special evening. She was super sweet, amazing to work with the entire staff was just as wonderful! We couldn't say enough wonderful things about this place and highly recommend it. Even on the days when it's super chill there the vibe is as comforting as the food. They'll treat you like family. , Even Anthony Bourdain has been there doing a segment for his show! Just go already! You won't regret it! :)

Went in on a Saturday night for a show we had bought tickets to. We put our name down for a table and probably waited about 20 mins to be seated, we were able to order a drink at the bar while waiting but it is very crammed in the bar area as everyone waits for their tables or people are sitting at the bar. I did feel like I was leaning over people. Once seated we ordered the half chicken and ribs, a grilled cheese with tomato and avocado and a side of Mac and cheese and coleslaw. The food is good, but it’s the whole experience that elevates this place. It’s the vibe. It’s the history. It’s the location, it’s the massive Joshua tree in the parking lot, it’s the cool little downtown not far, it’s the awesome music they put on. You don’t come here for the best meal you’ll ever eat, you come here for the whole experience!

Pappy & Harriet’s is such a fun and iconic spot! Even though it was busy, the staff quickly found us a table and the service was impressively fast. We had the ribs and they were absolutely delicious—tender, flavorful, and cooked just right. The atmosphere is something special too. The old Wild West-style decor gives the place a unique charm that you don’t find often. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area!

Great place to catch live music and enjoy really great food! The ribs are the star, cooked outside on open fires.

Went during Coachella so the wait for a table inside was too long, but took a table outside under the heating lamps and enjoyed the rowdy and fun atmosphere. Limited menu outside, the ribs were a bit cold, but the burger was one of the best that I’ve had. Bursting with juiciness and smoky flavors.

Fun little bar and restaurant located in the Pioneer town. The nachos were good and the House Salad was killer.

J
Jacob Archibald

Fantastic smoked meats and a unique, fun, western style bar. I found a portion of the ribs I got a little over smoked to the point it was dry and hard but the rest of them were top tier excellent. Half chicken was probably the juiciest and most tender, flavorful chicken I've ever had. I seriously don't know if I've had chicken breast that good before. Chili cheese fries were great smothered in a tri tip chili.

Amazing place to watch a concert! Food is fantastic! Bbq ribs fall off the bones, tri tip is flavorful & the steak salad is too Amazing to pass up! Service is efficient & staff is professional, friendly & all good vibes here!

The food was good overall. The steaks, beers, other drinks, sides were great. The service was prompt and quick. The ambiance and the building were interesting. The live music added to the whole experience. The prices were good but sides added to the total price. They are one of the only restaurants that were open after 9 pm. They close at 11 pm. They also had good selection for kids.

Super cool place service was great clientele was great plenty of people to talk to and have a conversation with WITH. I didn’t drink the alcohol but they look like they had a full bar. Barbecue sauce smelled real nice. I had a burger fries and a couple cokes. The waitress kept the glass filled. The burger came hot. The fries were hot when I got them cooked to order kind of an eccentric clientele a lot of of out of state out-of-towners maybe some Hollywood guys, but I had a really good time

We have stopped in to Pappy and Harriet’s for a quick lunch after hiking through Joshua Tree National Park many times. It’s a unique little place that is about a 20 minute drive from the park entrance. It’s adjacent to a Western movie set that you can tour (by appointment) and the Mane Street of Pioneertown. The restaurant is a local classic with rustic decor, and a menu that will satisfy almost all palates, including vegetarian choices! It was really busy when we arrived, but the place is pretty large with lots of seating, so we were seated almost immediately. (Expect a short wait sometimes…) Our server was very friendly and attentive. We had a nice light lunch of a salad, guacamole/fresh salsa and a mountain of chips, and their amazing chili nachos. The nachos were unique in how they were prepared. We got the vegetarian chili, which was absolutely delicious with just the right amount of spice. Prices are reasonable, too! They have live music on a stage some nights, so check their website to see what sort of entertainment options might be scheduled. A great place to stop when you are in the Joshua Tree Park area! We will most definitely go back again to try a few more things from their menu!

Pappy and Harriet’s had been on our dinner list, and it was *packed* on a Sunday night. The vibe is super chill, the staff is really friendly, and there are even some shared tables if you don’t mind a communal feel. The outdoor space is huge and gives off cowboy vibes, while the inside is roomy with a rustic charm. There's also a separate indoor area where live music performances happen. We tried the veggie chili nachos, the Impossible burger, and the bison burger with fries. For drinks, we went with Rosy Boa and the Gold Rush. Everything was delicious and totally lived up to the hype. Big shoutout to our hostess, Kailey A—she was super attentive and made sure we were taken care of. Must visit!

S

Pappy and Harriet’s completely lived up to the hype. From the moment we arrived, the vibe was incredible. Lively, welcoming, and full of character without feeling overwhelming. The two hosts were AMAZING and set the tone right away. They quoted us about a 50 minute wait, but it moved much faster than expected and we were seated far sooner, which we really appreciated. I have gluten and dairy allergies, and the staff handled them with care, confidence, and kindness. Our server was knowledgeable, attentive, and made sure I felt comfortable ordering without any stress. That level of awareness goes a long way. The food was fantastic, the service was top notch, and the overall experience felt thoughtful and well run from start to finish. It is easy to see why this place is such a beloved stop. Highly recommend Pappy and Harriet’s and we would absolutely return. Be sure to check out the photo booth by the bathrooms!

Southern California desert vibe and landscape at its best. The whole area... Pioneertown, Yucca, Joshua Tree, etc is place where you expect to see the Eagles walking around or ZZ Top playing songs from their first albums in bar with Linda Ronstadt singing across the street. The food and live music (we saw John 5) were excellent at Pappy & Harriet's. Check out my pictures!

Gosh! This place is Ah-Mazing!! 🥩🍗🔥 Our Party of five loved every bite! The drinks are amazing. Atmosphere wonderful. Our server Jesse was fantastic and super helpful. Very friendly too! Beside a super cute little ghost town! We had the bison burgers made medium rare. They were fantastic. Our server recommended medium rare for them not to be dry. We had the ribs and they were to die for. Also the pork sandwich was fantastic an very flavourful. We plan to go back on this trip! HIGHLY recommend this for wonderful real American grill!!!!

Got lucky with a cancelation so our group of 8 was sat down quick and normally, a table for 4 can be more than 30 mins wait. Service was great. Food was big portioned and delicious. What a history this place has with Sir Paul McCartney having performed here before. Photobooth was also fun! Must try!

J

Great BBQ ribs, Cole slaw and their BBQ sauce in the best. We sat outdoors and brought our dog so we love that they are dog friendly. The staff was attentive and sat our party of five people right away. It took a minute to get our orders in because we were outside and they were busy but as soon as we ordered the waitress came back often to check on us. Baked beans and Mac and cheese were also great. It’s located in Pioneer town which is a fun old time western town used for movies so the kids loved roaming around and exploring. Highly recommend this place if you are in the area.

We went to Pappy's after a trip to Joshua Tree (as I am sure most people do!), and it was CRAZY! First, it really is in the middle of nowhere. It is as rustic and western feeling as you can imagine. You are driving through a rock filled desert and it appears out of nowhere. I read that it was busy, and difficult to get a table and they werent messing around. The hostess tells everyone who walks through the door 1.5hr wait. She was on top of it though. She has a system where you just repeatedly check in and she squeezes you in as soon as possible. For a table for 2, it took us about 40 mins to be seated. They also have live music events and a band was doing sound checks right in front of us while we were eating. The atmosphere is great. We would have loved to stay for the show, but we were coming from San Diego. Food! We shared the tri tip chili nachos and they were awesome. I ordered the Cowboy Combo, and the Tri Tip was tender and very flavorful. The smoked chicken was AWESOME! The highlight for me. My wife ordered rhe ribs and they were excellent. The only negative was the sides. They weren't bad, but they were just ok for me. Beans were good, not great. Mac and cheese was good. Cole Slaw was a little bland. Overall great experience though. 5/5 Highly Recommend!! 9

this a historic locale with great food and a vibrant interior. today was our third visit over the last several years. the food is great. i love the brisket burger. it is as delicious as any i've ever eaten. i eat it w/o any mustard or ketchup. you just don't need it. the thick cut fries melt in your mouth with just the right amout of coating. the walls are covered w photos of many notable visitors. they have musical performers most evenings, it's packed.

A staple in Pioneertown, Pappy & Harriet’s doesn’t just deliver ambiance, it also delivers delicious food! After a morning spent driving from LA, we stopped in for a quick lunch before going on a hike. I’m gluten free, so I got salmon, salad, and coleslaw. The waiter ensured there was no cross contamination, and double checked with the chef that my meal was safe. As a celiac, I’d feel comfortable eating here. What shocked me was how DELICIOUS my salmon tasted. I honestly did not expect it to be as good as it was. I think the wood fire preparation really shone through the dish. I thoroughly enjoyed every bite, and I’ve paid more for worse filets of salmon at fancier establishment. The decor and ambiance is top notch, and befitting of the surrounding Western area. Definitely recommend!

Iconic desert vibe with great food & nostalgic and full of soul — in Pioneertown! Pappy & Harriet’s is an absolute gem in the desert. The atmosphere is legendary — rustic, authentic, and full of character. It feels like stepping into a classic Western movie set with amazing energy. The food is solid and comforting and the energy here is truly one of a kind. A timeless place that stays with you long after you leave. Tips: • Go early or expect a wait • Check the live music schedule in advance • Perfect stop after Joshua Tree Overall, this place is more than a restaurant — it’s an experience. Highly recommended.

Welcomed with a smile and seated quickly even though there was an event going on. We came for a concert but heard great things about the food. Got ribs and famous chili after recommendations from both the hostess and our server. We were not disappointed. Fun place in the middle of nowhere but definitely worth being.

This BBQ is something I crave year round. On my last visit I didn’t get anything but two BBQ sandwiches. No sides, nothing. Saving all the room for BBQ. I’m a pretty small woman so the waiter looked at me kind of strange but I ate it all! I don’t enjoy burnt ends, I just want the tasty BBQ and Pappy & Harriet’s delivers every time. I’ve also had the ribs before which were amazing but I can’t not get the BBQ now. I’ve been probably 5 times and it’s a staple for me when visiting JT.

This place is such a vibe! Didn't expect this in the middle of desert nowhere; definitely a metaphorical oasis! Came here initially to see LA Lom and had such a great time. We got there early so we got a front row seat, and had some very delicious ribs while waiting. It has a campground nearby, so make a overnight trip out of your drive. Will def come back to see more shows under the stars 🌟

I love Pappy & Harriet’s! I bring all my friends here when they come visit the desert. Great barbecue options from ribs to tri-tip to bison burgers! Cool vibe & great venue for an outdoor show. I’ve seen several concerts here over the years, and it’s always a special experience.

If you are a foodie, this might not be your favorite place for a dinner out. However, if you love live music and a wild west vibe... it is still worth a stop! After walking around Pioneertown, visited the shops, it was a nice place to share a large platter of chili nachos & beers! (One menu recommendation... please offer smoked BBQ brisket nachos!) If you are someone who doesn't like to drive in the dark with lots of hills, you might prefer to stay close to Pioneertown if you plan to attend a show! We left before sunset on this trip, but next time we would want to stay for the full experience.

Pappy & Harriet’s is such a fun spot! The BBQ is absolutely delicious—smoky, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The service was friendly and attentive, making the whole experience easy and enjoyable. Inside, the vibe is super cool—rustic, warm, and full of character. Definitely a place worth checking out whether you’re stopping for a meal or just soaking in the atmosphere.

This is something special. I’m reviewing it as a restaurant but not really, more of a whole vibe. I drive from Vegas to LA all the time, but this one takes a slightly different route, much more barren and desolate. Large portions of the drive completely devoid of cell service. I thought “hey at least when I get to my destination I will have service”. The joke was on me as when arriving at pioneer town I realized, still no cell service. The town was truly set up to be an old western town. It was dusty and slightly rainy to set the mood even further. I instantly felt like I was in the wrong place but I said hey, may as well eat here since I had lots of time to kill. I just went simple, a cocktail and a burger, and my goodness it was one of the juiciest flavorful burgers I’ve had In a long time, i also know they were smoking their own bbq all night and wished I could have tried that as well. This place is worth the drive just for the atmosphere and food. Already a 5/5 But that’s not all. This is a concert venue, the headliner “The Sword”, in a tiny bar where they just pushed the tables to the side. Mind you it’s pitch black surrounding the town, this tiny restaurant bar is packed, Sweaty and blaring rock music until midnight. It just had a feeling I haven’t felt for years. Just that tiny raw club you started frequenting when you were younger, far from The over produced arena shows I seem to be at now days. Even the small shows have A six foot barricade separating you from the stage. This show had people being thrown onto the stage and I had a full beer poured on me at one point. I can’t remember the last time I felt such controlled chaos at a show. Driving home was even more terrifying as it was pitch black, my ears still ringing. Barely seeing any other cars on the road for miles, occasionally a fox or a mouse lighting up my high beams. It did not feel like Vegas or LA, Just a surreal otherworldly location, and I question why I travel so far for concerts at times , but arriving home I have to say it was one of the best experiences I’ve had at a concert in years. 6/5 stars. Why are my burger reviews so long?

Pappy and Harriet’s is a staple in this area for good food and a fun vibe. Show up early and hungry and you won’t be disappointed. Getting a table is a bit cumbersome for larger groups as the cell coverage is spotty so you have to come back and check every 15 min or so if a table is ready for you but worth the wait. The live music is a cool component to dining in if you are here for dinner. We have been coming for years and it’s the same great quality food we have come to expect. The stand outs for us are the half chicken and the fries and mac and cheese along with the killer bbq sauce.

The atmosphere was warm and rustic, what you’d expect from a barbecue joint. We ordered the Cowboy Combo and it was plentiful. The chicken was the best, followed by the ribs in second place. The tri-tip served Santa Maria style was our least favorite. We ordered medium rare and only one slice met the criteria. Also, it was a bit chewy. The seasoning was a bit much. The French fries side happened to be the best fries we ever tasted.

Really cool place in an old town atmosphere, really back in time. Very well designed and feel very welcome. We were 5 ppl and not all of us wanted to eat so we couldn’t sit on a normal table and only at the bar, which we couldn’t actually talked with each other, so all of us had to order food, very different approach then Europe. The food was great and well made. Will come back for the experience again :)

This was our first stop for our Joshua Tree/Yucca Valley weekend trip and it was a great meal to start the day. The decor is unique and fits the western themes of Pioneertown. Parking was very easy to find, we (group of 2) arrived around 12pm and waited around 15-20mins for a table. It seemed a lot longer for bigger groups, so definitely plan ahead! We got pulled pork and steak sandwiches with fries and Mac and cheese as sides, respectively. You have to pay for the sides separately so it can definitely make the bill pile up. It was delicious and very filling but I wouldn’t go out of my way to revisit to eat again. Recommend having the Desert Citrus beer (so crisp and refreshing with the heavy food!) and support a local brewery! Overall, the fun is in the environment and getting into the cowboy spirit!

The service and atmosphere were outstanding. What a fun place, tons of character and unique furniture/ decorations. We arrived early around 4:30 for dinner and were happy we did, the line and wait picked up right after we arrived. We started our meal off with the potato cheese fries, which were delicious. Followed by our dinner meals: a rack of ribs along with a side salad; half a chicken and another side salad(walnuts and feta) along with the tri-tip sandwich. The ribs were great, the side salads were good, the chicken and the tri-tip sandwich were okay. It was snowing out. I wish we'd had more time and better weather to explore the small town.

Came up here early for the Japanese Breakfast concert. I was welcomed in warmly by the lady at the front. Emma was my server and was nice. The guy who brought me water was great! He kept the water coming! I had the tri-tip sandwich and vegetarian chili for an appetizer. The food was ok, but the tri-tip wasn’t hot. I didn’t say anything because I was so hungry I ate it quickly! Anyways, overall, I would still recommend it. Oh yeah, Curtis and the guy working Bar Back were awesome!

Cute spot off the road in Pioneer Town… REALLY off the road. Their breakfast/brunch menu wasn’t too large but everything we ordered was really good. Some pancakes would be a great addition. The steak was incredibly tender, and the biscuits/gravy were well seasoned. The BBQ sauce on the chicken was so tasty… we put some BBQ sauce on the mac and cheese and it was YUMMMY We sat outside but i love the decor inside. Takes you out of reality with a bit of nostalgia.

Had dinner here last night. Salad, roasted chicken, steak sandwich, coleslaw, Mac and cheese. Everything was good..only complaint was the chicken was a little dry. Good service, food came out very quickly after ordering. It was very busy, but not super loud. Would recommend this restaurant

Went here to see a live music show, and wanted to try the food. Got there early before 6:00pm as the website suggested, and good thing. By 7:00 there was a long wait. But did discover that on busy nights they often have food out back in the picnic area for purchase, so you can get a BBQ fix before a show. There’s a bar out there too! Maybe give them a call beforehand to make sure, if you want to go that route. BBQ was pretty good, some of the best I’ve found in the area. Their basting sauce was kinda spicy but not hot. Meats were good quality, and sides were good also. Chips and guacamole to start was very good. Service was a bit slow but friendly and fine. Atmosphere is lively and loud, highway road house out in the desert and fits the bill perfectly.

Excellent BBQ joint! We were fortunate enough to grab two bar seats and avoided the long wait. I had the tri tip sandwich (highly recommend) and the mac and cheese (highly recommend). I enjoyed the Cactus Flower drink, which I also highly recommend. Kim was a great server/bartender, too! Atmosphere was great, but we wanted to get our before the music started. We aren't live music people, so be cautious about their schedule if you are the same way. Food: only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars was my husband's food. He had the ribs. We agreed that they were good but not great. The were somewhat tough and a bit on the dry side. We would easily go back and recommend to anyone!

Pappy & Harriet’s is a famous restaurant/bar/music venue in Pioneertown just up the road from Joshua Tree. It’s aesthetic is western saloon meets the high desert, and the decor and atmosphere are down-to-earth and make you feel like you’re in a Texas BBQ spot or an old school bar from the Old West. While this spot does have very cool concerts from time to time—including secret shows by Paul McCartney, Modest Mouse, Stars, and more—the food, for me, leaves something to be desired. It’s really just so-so in terms of BBQ, sandwiches, burgers. The salads for me are the standout items. It’s not that the quality isn’t decent, it’s just not elevated or prepared well-enough to justify the fairly steep price tag. It also sometimes gets so busy here they have 2-4 hour wait times, though often you can get in with no wait at all. All-in-all, it’s a cool spot to visit at least once, but it’s not really anything to shout about in the long run.

There is something undeniably cool about driving up to Pappy & Harriet’s in Pioneertown. Between the Hollywood film history of and the fact that legends like Paul McCartney have graced the tiny stage inside this rustic bar, it gave my husband and I a sense of that old Hollywood cowboy history. We stopped in for a late-afternoon visit and were immediately struck by the quaint atmosphere and the great service. Our bartender was very friendly and gave us the fun musical stories we were looking for. We kept it simple with a BBQ pork sandwich and beans. The food was solid, and I was thrilled to see they carry Athletic Brewing non-alcoholic beer for my husband. I ordered an IPA that was served in a small 8oz mason jar which added to that high-desert aesthetic. As a 30-year California resident, I’m no stranger to tourist pricing, but the "sticker shock" here was surprising. I did miss seeing the beer prices as I looked up on the beer menu on the wall that did not include prices. We were stunned when a shared sandwich ($19.00) and two beers (one NA $8.00 and $11 for a 8oz mason jar), came out to $50.00 with tip. There is a 3% kitchen tax included and the menu informed us that the staff all have full health benefits. I spoke with a fellow traveler at our hotel later that evening who felt the same; sadly, some are even skipping tips because the menu prices. They ordered 3 beer and were shocked at the request for $33.00! We were there on a Monday and the place was full, so I do feel that the prices were much higher than needed to be, especially for beer. Being a California resident that lives a couple hours away, it's not likely we'll ever return to Pappy's. We will, however, return to Yucca Valley as we loved the area. We are seniors on a budget, a very high demographic group, so we are always looking for that little extra "bang for our buck!"

We dropped by for lunch and didn’t have to wait. We loved the rustic and authentic atmosphere of the restaurant, and the service was excellent start to finish. A little bit pricey but great quality. Only giving it a 4/5 stars because the meat was overcooked (still excellent though!).

Great place to visit. We did not eat anything so I can't add anything here. I had an old fashion...it was a bit sweet for me, but that is just my preference. Service was attentive but not engaging. Overall I liked it here..but nothing that makes me want to run back.

Really cool atmosphere and location. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating as well as stages for live music. - Chili 5/5 - Fries 5/5 - Iced Tea 5/5 - Mac n Cheese 5/5 - Coleslaw 4/5 - Chicken 4/5 (good flavor but a bit dry) - Ribs 4/5 (lots of meat but again, a bit dry)

Baby Back Ribs: 3/5 I tasted the possibilities. Very balanced flavors, not too smoky and not too salty. Everything was in place for it being the perfect rib. The sauce was also very good, it kinda reminded me of steak sauce with a little more spice. But maybe because we weren’t seated in the main dining room, the ribs fell flat. A little tough, a little cold, I felt like these could have gotten a little more love at the end of the day. Coleslaw: 2/5 It was just cabbage and some really light dressing. It tasted kind of like the salad packs at Costco. Mac and Cheese: 2.5/5 Again, not for me. I felt like it was too saucy and cheesy, making it overly heavy and gloopy. Ambiance: The ambience bumped this place up a rank. I really liked the vibes here. It is casual, it does have a neighborhood bar sort of energy, but the whole place is immaculately themed and I can see you kind of dressing up for the festivities. Service: Everyone here was really nice despite it being super busy. Another weird thing I noticed was that all the customers were really nice too. Parking: A big dirt lot. If it’s busy they usually will have someone guiding parking. Not too difficult but can get busy and dark.

I had a great time at Pappy & Harriet’s — the live music was fantastic, and the atmosphere had an unmistakable American vibe. You can really feel the character of the place. The food, however, didn’t quite hit the same high note. The meat was good but not particularly memorable.

With its rustic charm, this restaurant offers a welcoming atmosphere. The food was generally tasty, but the baby back ribs were overcooked, and the coleslaw lacked freshness. In contrast, the potato fries were exceptionally large and flavorful. The staff provided outstanding hospitality, and the service was efficient. However, the restaurant's popularity results in lengthy wait times, and the prices are somewhat high considering the overall quality.

The meals at this place are not bad, but they are also not the best. The salad that I had for dinner looked like it was chopped in the morning of that day. Fun place, overrated food. - Food: I was hoping for some top notch BBQ ribs here but they were a bit dry (seems common after reading other reviews). The hot dog came bare without any toppings (like relish or onions). Sides were good. Overall decent food but we were expecting great bbq. - Service: Friendly but pretty slow despite it not being busy at all (Monday 4pm), one of the mains took 5 mins longer than the rest for a four person table. - Atmosphere: Great inside, back patio could be nicer.

You should come... just don’t come hungry. Honestly, the best part of this place was the scenic drive getting there. Once inside, I found myself marveling more at the historical walls than the menu. The food? Way too expensive for what you get and tasted, well... underwhelming. But let's talk about the salsa. That salsa was a masterpiece—so good it almost made me forget the rest of the meal. Almost. If chips and salsa were all they served, I’d probably give five stars. Service was wonderful, the atmosphere charming, but overall, it’s a pricey detour best suited for music buffs... or salsa enthusiasts?

We decided to try out this place after I saw videos on YouTube while visiting Joshua tree National Park. Menu offers entree only, so if you want a side it’s extra. It’s hot inside and I don’t know if the AC was working or not and lots of flies inside. The server was ok, not very socialable. But I am not the one who complains, I just give good honest reviews. Food was mediocre. Tri tip had no flavor to it and the Bison burger was ok. The Mac and cheese was good though. There is live music there, we wanted to stay and watch it, but since since our experience was substandard we just ate and left. Sorry, but will not try again

Pricy for the food, good for atmosphere, but expect $50 pP for a Burger and a Beer at Lunch Atmosphere, however, is well authentic Midwestern bar. Enjoyed it a lot, while the "Brisket Sandwich" turned out to be a rather dry burger. Ok fries. Crispy bacon added made it solid, but far from exceptional.

J
Jacob Krupa

The prices for the portions are quite high plus nothing comes with sides. The $9 large fry as a side was not enough for three people with their sandwich orders, didn't get a picture of the third item as it came out about 5 minutes after the first two. They also add a kitchen tip onto the bill which we didn't see any warnings about. The food was good but nothing really stood out. The atmosphere of the restaurant/ bar area was cool but with the above comments not worth going back for.

Came here after hiking at Joshua Tree. The hostess said it would be about an hour wait, but it ended up only being about 15-20 minutes for a party of 4 which was a nice surprise. My mother and I wanted to buy shirts and the girl who was selling them was incredibly rude and standoffish. She was younger and had dirty blond hair with a white headband. She had a major attitude and did not smile once, let alone looked at us. Once we were seated, it took about 10 minutes for us to be greeted by our server but our poor server was taking care of a section that was way too big for one person. After ordering our drinks and waiting a little while, that is when it started. The band that was playing started sound checking. The music was the loudest thing I think I've ever heard. It was concert level loud at like 5PM. I am sensitive to loud noises and couldn't enjoy anything about the place because of how loud it was. Our server couldn't hear our order correctly it was so loud. I had to use my airpods as earplugs. This went on for probably 30-45 minutes with every second feeling like an hour. Once the music finally stopped we were able to enjoy our food. The food was delicious and definitely worth having again. Unfortunately I wouldn't come back knowing that my ears have the potential to bleed from the maximum decibels they have the band's speakers at. I only emphasize it so much because it really was THAT BAD. My mother said they must be using it to turnover tables. Hope they fix this issue.

We went on a Sat evening so it was busy, and loud. Could hardly hear each other. Ordered the family platter to try a bit of everything. The chicken was dry and not much flavor. One server for the entire section. It took an hr from sitting down to the food arriving on the table. So expect a wait on a busy day. There was live music, but it was too loud to hear anything.

This place is definitely a vibe! The staff is nice, the place looks great. When they have concerts must be even better, for sure. The food, on the other hand, it's not worth your money. The bread from the sandwich is plain white bun, no taste. An upgrade on the food would be nice. Nevertheless, stop and grab a drink, relax and enjoy the sight.

They sat us at a bench for 7 people, I felt crowded and uncomfortable. It was so crowded we couldn't sit anywhere else. The food was ok, overpriced. I had the tri tip with Mac n cheese and coleslaw and all was flavorless, I had to add salt to everything just to give it some flavor. They charged us 20% gratuity and 10% for the kitchen staff. I'm sorry, im a local and trying to find a good restaurant where I don't mind splurging a little but this was not it. I just dont get the hype.

I usually don't post a bad re iew. The world is full of negativity. After much thought, my experience at this restaurant really upset me. 😡 I am in the area and visiting friends. After visiting Pioneer Town, we stopped for lunch. Walking in we were asked if we were eating a meal or just appetizers and drinks. We said probably appetizers, the gal told us we had to find a seat at the bar. All the seats were taken, my partner went back and said that the seats at the bar were full. Then we decided that we would eat a meal so we could sit at a table. A new gal came over and asked us if we were going to order a meal, at least one meal, or we couldn't sit at a table. All four of us were looking at the menu, the gal came back to tell us we all had to order a meal or we couldn't sit at the table. We should have left after the rudeness and badgering. Being hungry, and our friend who lives in the area said the food was good, we ordered drinks and a meal. The only person who wasn't rude was our waitress. I was shocked by the treatment, it was definately a,if you don't like it you can leave. I had a bison burger, I liked it, the rest of my party said that thier food didn't have much flavor. Maybe it was the taste in our mouth from the lack of hospitality. I won't be returning. I hope other folks who go have a better experience. You better all order a meal to get a table.

We were excited to try this place during a recent vacation but nothing about the experience would bring me back. It was freezing cold. Even after the server turned the fan off, the AC still blew cold air to our area. I know climate control is tough to adjust quickly in a big building, but just noting this because it made our dinner significantly less enjoyable and I looked forward to leaving. The food was fine. They ran out of dessert which was disappointing after a long day of hiking at Joshua Tree. It’s certainly a unique setting, but honestly a pretty far drive off the main road and not worth it in my opinion. The main issue that drives me to write this review is that the parking lot was insane due to two concerts happening that evening. I’m sure they make lots of $ from concerts, but just sharing my experience as a diner. Maybe there could be a small “diners only” area of the lot for restaurant patrons to use? The parking lot attendants were truly crazy, yelling at us (“Is that an uber?! You can’t stay there!) and waving their arms when my husband stopped for less than 30 seconds to drop me off near the door. He truly left me frazzled and I would encourage management to ask them to chill out and speak to customers like regular humans.

Honestly food was overpriced, cold and bland. The service was terrible (Nick). We ordered the $100 family platter and by the time we recieved plates to eat it on the food was just warm to cold (tri tip). They recided the 2 stars for the ribs they were tasty but just warm.

A
Albert Macias

The atmosphere is nice and all but my goodness the food is atrocious. It was worse than theme park BBQ. The ribs were overcooked and dry. Our medium rare tri tip came out well done, dry, and flavorless. The mac and cheese was eh; first time I have ever not finished a plate of mac and cheese. Half the tortilla chips were soft. The waiters are good and all, but whoever is cooking the food is doing an awful job. It's such a shame because the place looks unique. Avoid eating here if at all possible. I'd even prefer chain restaurants over this place. You'd have to be drunk to really enjoy this place and leave a good review, especially at the prices they set.

We visited here for a gig but arrived early for food after a few recommendations. We were really disappointed in the BBQ - my half chicken was super dry and served with cold fries. My other half ordered the cowboy combo. Huge portion of tri tip but it was so chewy he only managed half a slice. Only saving grace was the mac and cheese side - that was pretty tasty. Also when we were arrived we were asked if we were happy to share a table (the restaurant was half empty) and were then sat in a table round the corner with zero atmosphere or service (they did let us move).

So this is a mixed review, the food was good and the atmosphere was nice, but the service there is a bit of a mixed bag. Everyone that works there lies to you about anything so don't believe anything they tell you. I get it, they have a monopoly, so they probably don't care much about this, but here are your warnings. We put our name in, they said a 2 hour wait and we had to stay close, but open seating at the bar. We hung around and after about 15 minutes we found a spot at the bar. Started ordering food at the bar, then they said since we had kids they couldn't serve us at the bar. OK, asked how long for To go food, and was told 15 minutes, so we decided to order it. Not 5 minutes after they call our name, only 20 minutes after we put our name in. The catch is they said we can't be seated now since we weren't going to get a full meal, even though we just spent $80 on the To go food (which we will learn soon wasn't even started yet). Talked to manager, he was no help, he led us outside into the cold and told we could sit there, and he would light the heater that was out (he never did). We waited 45 minutes for our 15 minute food. I get it, the place was busy, but don't lie and tell us 15 minutes when it was going to be 45, we would have chosen not to order takeout if that was the case. We just took our food to our Airbnb at that point t. Asked if ketchup and bbq was in the box, was told it should all be in there (fyi, no ketchup was in the bag, and only 2 small bbq sauce for 3 meals). All around a horrible experience from this place, but again, they have a monopoly, so they probably don't care. About the food, paid $6 for bacon and onions, got 2 small slices of bacon and barely any grilled onions, and hardly any fries, saw a lot more fries on the plates for the in house orders. The menus didn't say anything about cole slaw on the pork sandwich.

UPDATE- we tried this place again to hopefully have a better experience and it literally ended up so much worse! We put our name on the list and were told it would be 60-80 minutes and it ended up being 2 hours but the annoying part is they kept telling us to come check in every 15 minutes so we couldn’t even really explore pioneer town during the wait. We eventually sat in the beer garden and let the hostess know and after 30+ mins and I checked and they said they called my name back there and skipped me so we had to wait another 20 minutes - it was ridiculous. Then when we were seated, half way through our meal the table next to us had a kid that got sick EVERYWHERE! It took the staff nearly 5 minutes to start cleaning up and this family just sat there with their kid continuing to get sick. It ruined our dinner and our server just acted like nothing happened. I know the situation was out of the restaurant’s control but there is a way to promptly and discreetly clean up something like that. Also our server obviously knew we were grossed out and wanted to leave ASAP - she easily could have comped a meal or a side or a drink as an apology but nothing. Our meal was honestly ruined and as a local, I will never return and never bring guests visiting here again. ORIGINAL REVIEW - This place is definitely a place you go for the experience and for fun music performances/shows. We arrived and put our name on the list and were told it would be 60-80 minutes (we explored pioneertown as we waited) but luckily we got seated within 30 minutes — but our server didn’t stop by for nearly 20 minutes! He honestly ruined the experience for us because he rarely checked in and we saw him constantly mixing up drink and food orders with all the surrounding tables. At one point I saw him giving our drinks to the table next to us and I had to wave at him that those were ours. Every table complained at some point to him for some issue. We enjoyed the food but it was very pricey and everything was a la carte (so no sides included with entrees). My friend ordered a pulled chicken sandwich and it was completely cold which was odd - I worked in food service so it came across as if it was heated up in a microwave and just didn’t get warm enough in the middle. The atmosphere was super fun and we really enjoyed that - we got to experience sound check for the artists performing later that night which was cool. I would recommend this place for appetizers and drinks while listening to live music but probably not for a full meal in my opinion.

I had a highly disappointing dining experience at Pappy & Harriet’s this evening. Here's a rundown of the issues we encountered: 1. Salsa: The salsa tasted like it was straight from a jar, lacking any fresh, homemade flavor. 2. Steak: I ordered my steak medium rare, but it came out so rare that it was cold. It was almost as if it was barely cooked. 3. Fries: Despite requesting extra crispy fries, they arrived undercooked and limp. 4. Chicken: The chicken was excessively fatty and greasy, making it inedible. 5. Mac and Cheese: The mac and cheese tasted old and stale. Additionally, I specifically asked for no garnish, just plain, but my request was ignored. 6. Service: The service was incredibly slow. We waited over 20 minutes for our water pitcher to be refilled, and it never was. We visited Pappy & Harriet’s last year (June 2023) and experienced slow service, but decided to give it a second chance. Unfortunately, we were disappointed yet again. Overall, the food was so gross that we left most of it behind and the service was terrible. I wouldn't recommend Pappy & Harriet’s to anyone based on this experience.

Went for a concert and the place was packed. Definitely over a fire safety limit for capacity. We had paid $30 and left after maybe 10 minutes. We never even made it close to the bar.

I ended up sitting in the outdoor area since pets aren’t allowed inside. The outside setup has a simplified, very basic menu. Unfortunately, the food didn’t impress. The ribs were drowning in sauce, and with only flimsy plastic utensils provided, eating them without making a mess was pretty much impossible. The burger was okay—nothing special. Overall, the prices felt steep considering the quality of the food and the atmosphere.
