Great restaurant. I highly recommend it for a casual evening bite with cocktails or if your looking for a well crafted meal with uniquely prepared rye beverages. I had the rabbit and dirty pasta. While those may not sound to you like the perfect names, I can assure you that they were amazingly delicious. Look it up on the menu for more details please. I will absolutely be back many times more. Thanks again for the great service and awesome food!
This is our favorite restaurant! We come from our foodie city of Cleveland every year to celebrate our anniversary here. The atmosphere is so perfectly swanky, especially in the Rye Bar. Service is always great, never had a bad dish, and the cocktails are wonderfully balanced. If you appreciate whiskey, a stop to see the wall of whiskey alone is worth the trip. Try the shishito peppers and order any dessert, you won't be disappointed. Thanks for giving us an awesome spot to celebrate a memorable 14 years together!!
Absolutely killer. A fantastic location for a more formal dinner with either friends, or for a date. The roasted chicken is probably the best I've ever had, and I wouldn't even dare share the mac and cheese.
Dinner here is fantastic. The food is superb and the whiskey selection is huge. In addition, the cocktails list is large and inventive. A great place to spend an evening or just to stop in for drinks. Only downside is the space, as tables are cramped. However, there are two bars which helps spread out bar patrons.
This place was f...ing amazing! You better get there early for a bar seat! You'll find a line forming 10-15min prior to opening( we went Saturday) Awesome cocktails and food. We will definitely be back! Welcome to the wall of Whiskey.
Had a great diner. Colleen was quick and friendly, the flatbread and dry-aged strip very well prepared. Cheesecake dotted all the i's. I'm sure to come back
Great whiskey selection, probably the best I've seen on the East coast and maybe the country. you won't be disappointed in their cocktails or food, everything is top notch.
Very cozy place with great food. Recommend for parties of 2 as there are only several tables for groups of 4. The wild hunt and the shandy were great drinks. The small plates, pate, bacon candy and the shotiko peppers I think they're called were great. I had the rabbit kalbesa which was an explosion of several flavors. Great if you like several different flavors otherwise I'd recommend the pork shank. Overall a great experience and would visit again.
This place was amazing even on the skimmed down Covid menu! A+. Can't wait to go again. Thanks John!
Awesome atmosphere, great service, food was amazing!!!! Highly recommend the scallops, Tartar, smoked salmon, arugula salad and polenta!! #smallplates
My girlfriend and I came here for our anniversary dinner. Both of us have been dying to try it! I must say this was one of the most laid back" higher" end experiences I have had. The cocktails were strong and delicious. If I were to reccomend anything to someone, it would have to be the scallops or the bronzino. Hands down the best scallops I have ever had. The only complaint, which isnt much at all, is the portion size for the "large portions". The large size of the scallops was only 3, which only had me wanting more! Other than that, it was a perfect experience.
Delicious drinks, great dj, and very nicely setup space in this pop up in Butcher & the rye.
Excellent all around. Decor, food, service were all terrific. Barkeeps Ryan and Michael were wonderful. Try the Spoil the Rotten cocktail (created by Michael). Ryan has excellent bourbon recommendations.
Very cool place. First time in Pittsburgh and this place didn't disappoint. Every dish was amazing. Rabbit, duck rigatoni, Brussel sprouts, I could go on. Of course the #Ramsandparrots was awesome
Just went for drinks, but it was great! Quiet ambience upstairs with well crafted interesting cocktails!
Shishito peppers and barral aged Manhattan is fantastic! Great service!
I ordered the buttermilk fried rabbit which tasted amazing. I also had the dirty pasta to start which was yummy as well. The restaurant atmosphere is very nice and homey. I came a second time a few weeks later and ordered the burger which also did not disappoint! My friend ordered the steak and said it was yummy as well. I think the rabbit is the most unique dish and worth a try though!
Great restaurant! The decor is wonderfully cozy and warm. There are oil lanterns at each table and amazing antique fixtures and glasses. The drinks are whiskey based and amazing, especially from the upper bar; it has it’s own menu. The food was equally amazing; we had scallops and rabbit and Dirty Pasta. We ended with apple bread pudding. It was good. You won’t be disappointed.
This place had a great ambiance. Awesome smells of the wood fire. Great Menu and even better food. We stopped here after seeing the best football team in the world play at Heinz Stadium. The New England Patriots.
There were some very good things happening on the menu. Especially if you're not squeamish. If you're adventurous or not put off by the names of food, get the goat neck. It's fantastic. Tons of scotch options and some delicious brussel sprouts made this a great trip along with a very good wait staff.
Just down the street from the Renaissance hotel is this justly gastropub experience. Some few outdoor seating options, and seems like they have 2 level indoor seating. The bar is a beautiful amber lit setup with bottles going up, up, up, with a lovely sliding ladder. The bartenders when I visited seemed to be extremely courteous and great at engaging customers. I had no idea what cocktail to try. He asked what type of liquor I liked and from there gave me a delicious cocktail minutes after. Their oxtail burger is delicious with a tender patty, caramelized onions, fluffy bun and great fries. I highly recommend it should you visit. I would definitely come back.
Part whisky bar part restaurant Butcher had a great atmosphere. There was a wall of various whisky bottles some were hard to find. They also various specialized cocktails. Staff were knowledgeable and helpful in selecting a drink. I enjoyed the meal as well. The place reminded me of a bar you would find in Manhattan.
Good food. Very American. Could easily get a star but not on the route. Duck liver, lamb neck with ricotta were great. Lived the tartare too. Great whisky bar. Very friendly staff. Pittsburgh is a cool town.
Super good! Second time back and it was even better this time! Had Brussels app which was fantastic and the Sunday gravy which was perfect! Mains courses were great and the drinks rocked! Our waitress was super friendly but not over pushy. Her recommendations were on point!
We had a wonderful time here tonight. James, our server, did a fantastic job of making recommendations for us. He really knows this stuff! The food was very interesting filling and delicious! We were here for quite a while and had a good time at the communal table with our tablemates. This was not an inexpensive meal however. And there might be a wait on most nights. We happen to get lucky tonight and got a table right away.
I have visited Butcher and the Rye on two occasions. Over time they have maintained quality in their food. The menu was different between our visits (understandable with how much time past between visits), but both times the food was really good. If you have never been, I highly recommend you try it.
This was a great night. As a whiskey drinker myself, I was instantly floored by the sheer number of whiskeys available. On top of that, their cocktails were amazing, and offered a great variety of strengths and tastes. We had come in just for drinks, but ended up having dessert as well. Among all of us we ordered all the available ones, and not a single one was disappointing. All delish. Well worth it!
Very cool place! Upscale but not too stuffy where you feel like you need to be dressed up super fancy. I had the buttermilk fried rabbit and the chocolate mousse! Awesome 😊 only downer would be it's a little dark so the candle on the table was very much used as a tool to see the menu
Yes, it's expensive, but it should be on your Pittsburgh restaurant bucket list! Atmosphere is so warm and inviting. There's something on the menu for everyone. Burgers are top notch and there is always a more adventurous menu item to try out. Portions are filling too, so you get your money's worth.
Top quality food, fantastic whiskey selection, and an incredibly knowledgeable staff. I had a duck liver pate that was silky smooth with a wonderful sweetness incorporated that paired beautifully with the rustic bread accompanying it. My bartender recommend a 114 proof whiskey for the best old-fashioned I ever had. You don't want to miss this place!
First of all the atmosphere was fenominal. There was so much going on around you but you felt like you were in your own little nook. Very neat and eclectic, my wife and I are definitely coming back. The dining was different though exceptional. My wife loved it and she's a huge skeptic. All different types of people are welcome and that just added to the wonderful experience.
Fancy, top quality cuisine that feels rustic but is very popular. The dining areas are clustered in smaller sections and wait staff is well trained and organized to give excellent service. A busy night would not have an effect on fantastic attentiveness. You'd never know. The food is excellent and the variety of options is staggering.
We were heading to the theater for the evening, and made 5:00 reservations. The place is absolutely stunning, eclectic vibe...I would want to say upscale funky vibe. I liked it. Our server John was very good. We ordered brussel sprouts and beets for appetizers. Both were excellent-but the nod had to go to the beets (and I'm not even a big fan of beets!!).
Best experience ever! We did the shot ski which was fun but definitely not worth $10 a shot for a weak green tea shot. The drinks are absolutely fantastic I had one that was a coffee drink I'd definitely order again. The truffles fries are so freaking delicious and so was the cheese fondue!
Amazing! Last evening was our first visit and we were extremely impressed! While the seating can be a little bit tight it is still quite comfortable. The decor, rustic chic! I had the rabbit and truly enjoyed my meal. My wife had the trout and I was fortunate enough to get to taste it. We both agreed that it was phenomenal! The chocolate cake with just a hint of coffee was also over the top delicious. Our waiter, Ivan was extremely knowledgeable of the plates and made some excellent recommendations. If there is one area that could be improved upon it would be the drink pours. They were a little light. We will definitely be back.
Excellent cocktail selection, the bartenders are nice and very talented. The cocktails are diverse for most tastes, and the beer options on draft are unique and quite good. We didn't try any food while at Butcher & the Rye, but reading the menu many items looked amazing and well worth another visit to taste!
The servers and bar staff were super accommodating. Food presentation was aethetically pleasing, savory, and healthy. The ambiance sets this unique concept aside from any other place in Pittsburgh. This is the perfect place to meet with a friend or group! Not the mentions cozy and comfortable seating with dimmer lights. The decor was another nuance to add to the experience. LGBT friendly.
Came in for drinks and a light meal before going to a show. The menu wasn't huge but I found a couple things to try. Drinks were good and the upstairs seating in the lounge was pretty cool and laid back.
Atmosphere is awesome, especially in warm weather when it's busy. I usually sit at the bar because the one time I was seated I was unhappy with the service. It was only one time so I don't think I can speak for all the servers though. Bartenders are extremely knowledgeable and make a great "punch of the day." OH and did I mention the wall of liquor??
The drinks were cute! And the atmosphere was fun and unique. No food as it was a pop up. And I had wished there was food. A little disorganized upon entry but staff was very friendly. I would recommend the Spookeasy
Lovely ambiance and extensive selection of spirits, particularly whiskey / scotch / bourbon. Best sazerac I ever had. They don’t get five stars because they aren’t super accommodating if you are ONLY drinking. Friendly people at the bar to chat with. It gets loud; if you are looking for initiate listening with no strain, this place isn’t for you.
Good food and a cool place. The bar was really cool and the waiter was on point but good luck walking in without a reservation. I had to wait with a drink for a while before something opened up. Thank goodness my waiter was keeping an eye out for me.
The burger had great veggies. The fries had a great texture but were a bit over seasoned. The music choice was solid and the waitress was nice.
Great drink and service, Food was my style but with that said the dirty pasta was fantastic.
What a cozy little place in the downtown area of Pittsburgh. The bar is wicked cool looking and upstairs there is dark woods and taxidermy animals on display and feels real intimate. The buttermilk fried rabbit was crispy and sublime. The scallop appetizer was rendered wonderfully and capping off with the sticky toffee pudding was great. Happy eating and remember: don't deny satisfy!
Stopped in last night and got seated incredibly quickly for a Saturday in Downtown. Service was amazing the entire time. The hosts were getting people taken care of quickly, and Erin was an amazing server! The current pop up only offers appetizers, which we didn’t know, and a pretty limited menu at that. The food we did order was great, but there weren’t a lot of options for any dietary restrictions. It was also on the expensive side for just two apps ($70 for the food and two drinks). Great service, good food. I won’t be back for this pop-up, but I’ll keep an eye on what they’re up to in the future.
The food was all delicious and the drink selection was astonishing. The wait staff were friendly and very responsible. I'm knocking off a star because the portion sizes for the price are a joke. It's like $35 for three scallops on a bed of arugula. Also, their accommodations for large groups aren't too great. Regardless, I did *really* enjoy this meal, and I would definitely recommend this place if you're willing to pay around a hundred bucks a head for a good meal.
Great selection of rye whiskies. They also have a great selection of house cocktail creations. The food here was nothing short of excellent. I sat at the bar and the bartender was very attentive. These guys lost a star because My appetizer and main meal came out at the same time which made it tough to enjoy properly. I received an apology but that's all.
I had a good time here. I sat upstairs at the bar at the advice of the concierge at my hotel. The place is a little on the dark side but it has a warm feeling to it. The place on a Thursday night had a decent crowd and it was easy to get a seat at the bar. I ordered the beet salad which was amazing and then a steak. The steak was good, cooked exactly how i asked, medium rare charred, Pittsburgh style on the outside. Good thing I'm not alergic to the mushrooms as I asked for them to be left out and yet there they were. The staff was warm and friendly with the perfect balance of attentive but respectful. The only bad part was the very weak tequila offering. So bad infact, I passed.
Delicious food, experience and overall, was one of the best restaurants in the city. However, called today at 9pm to order pick up and was given a 3 hour window by Sarah. Kyle called me back 15 minutes to say they couldn’t do mussels for pick up and if I still wanted the rest of my order? Sarah then called me back 10 minutes later to say she needed my credit card and couldn’t give me a total of my order. Instead of 3 hours, food was ready in 45 minutes. Food was in a bag on the floor, in the corner when I came to collect.Sarah or girl by the check in counter then asked me if I wasn’t going to leave her a tip? Are you serious? B&R, you really let me down tonight, I was there this past weekend with colleagues raving about this place. If you don’t want customers to order pick up, then don’t.
