If you’re anywhere near Southern California, do yourself a favor and make a stop here! I traveled all the way from Kentucky, and this place was absolutely worth it. The food is authentic, flavorful, and beautifully presented — every dish tasted fresh and perfectly seasoned. The service was just as impressive — friendly, fast, and welcoming from the moment we walked in. You can tell the staff truly care about their guests and take pride in what they do. Whether you’re local or just passing through, this restaurant is a must-try. It’s easily one of the best Mexican dining experiences I’ve ever had!
The salsa was tasty and had just a little kick. The shredded beef burrito was also tasty and a good sized. 👍 I ate all but the last 3 inches of the burrito and added some of the salsa to each bite. In retrospect, I should have asked for them to add onion because it was just the shredded beef and refried beans inside it. At least it didn't have rice.
Always a must when coming to Southern California! Parking can be an issue but sooo worth it. There is usually a wait but never very long. The food is sooooo good, the prices are very reasonable, and the service is top notch!!!
This place has been a staple in my family for decades. We grew up eating here several times a week, easily. It's amazing.
This is a hidden gem! The food was amazing and very generous portions! Very good prices as well. We were extremely impressed.
The best home-style Mexican food around. The chips are made fresh at the restaurant, and the salsa is flavorful with just the right amount of spicy heat! My favorite dish is the Chile Relleno plate with a shredded beef crunchy taco on the side. The beans and rice are delicious as well. It tastes just like grandma cooked it—it's that good!
First time there. Went with my sister and her kids. Food was great. Service was so-so. It wasn't as loud as expected. Would love to take my kids there some day. Their complimentary chips and salsa isn't free refill and they give the same amount of chips whether there's 2 people or 4 people. They charge extra for refills.
What a great, Authentic place! Danny and Michelle took me there for dinner, they have been going there for 35 years. I ordered 3 tacos and the menu said 2 tortillas, I figured they were street tacos, but come to find out there are full-size tacos. I have a big appetite and had a hard time Finishing all three tacos with rice and beans. This place I will definitely be coming back to.
This is the place to come to for Mexican food in Placentia. I had the Chicken enchiladas, with rice, beans and green salsa. It was on point. The chips and salsa we very good. I highly recommend. Met the owner. Really great guy. Come here for Mexican food. Restaurant was clean and they are expanding.
Hands down, the BEST mexican joint I've ever been to. The meats are tender and fresh, the dishes cooked and fried to perfection, and consistently too! I always make a point to stop by when I'm in the area because food like this is unforgettably delicious.
Authentic Mexican food. Homemade salsa and chips served at the table. The salsa is not for wimps. We were very happy with the breakfast burrito and beef torta. There is no mild salsa nor sauce option. They have the red Tabasco, and Cholula. The restaurant is located on the corner of a neighborhood. Watch for green curbs and 15 minute parking. The curb where we parked apparently was only a 15 minute spot (green curb was in discernible) and our tire was marked with a sticker. Will definitely be back. Also, on the way out we came across some nostalgia-payphone with a phone book attached!
Great food. We got the tostada shrimp salad and the chicken enchilada plate. They don’t have a parking lot so you have to figure out parking around the neighborhood. Was under construction, I think. Looks like it was a house converted to a restaurant at some point. Been around forever and the food is what making this place last.
Delicious, quality, Mexican food that is extremely well priced with large portions. Laid back atmosphere for all ages. Food comes out fast and service is attentive and quick. Just try not to over eat on chips and salsa before your meal comes. Which is hard because the salad is excellent.
Since moving to Texas, we haven’t had decent Mexican food, specifically enchiladas. The taste and flavor of the ones we had (cheese & shredded beef) were very good with good flavor. My one and only wish was that they were hotter. While the plate was hot, the inside of the enchiladas were lukewarm warm at best. Normally I ask for them to be extra hot temp wise but I didn’t this time because it’s been years since I’ve had anything that looked this good when they came out. The salsa and guacamole was very good and worth ordering.
On multiple occasions, I was recommended to visit this establishment, and I finally took the plunge. I visited for breakfast on a Tuesday, and the place was quite lively. I ordered the chilaquiles with green sauce and carne asada. The green sauce was so tasty, I couldn't stop eating! I will definitely be coming back.
Excellent Mexican restaurant. Great service, as soon as we were seated a bowl of warm chips and tasty salsa was delivered to our table. Our drink orders were taken and soon delivered. Minimal wait for our food to show up. And the best thing was the prices. Two meals, glass of wine and house margarita - all for $35 ! Amazing in 2024 that you can dine out at less than $50.
A great friend of ours highly recommended this place, and we weren't disappointed. My honey got the salad burrito with shredded beef and I got the shredded beef burrito and both were fantastic. The salsa is homemade from what we can tell and it's super delicious. It's spicy but not over bearing, and it has a lil bit of heat that stays with you. It was definitely worth the drive.
I've been here over 8 times now! Every visit is a treat for my taste buds, and my favorite dish is hands down the arroz y pollo. The salsa is fantastic and spicy, which adds an extra kick to every bite. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, and they make me feel like a valued guest every time I visit. The atmosphere is casual but it is truly a gem.
If you want real home cooked mexican food, congratulations you found the best spot north OC has to offer. Been coming here for decades and have never found anywhere better than El Farolito.

Line was long to order food. When the food was ready they will look for a number they've assigned. Now, I was surprised how quickly it went with 2 people taking our order. Yup, it went fairly quickly considering other places. Go, ho, ho, thats the sight you want when you are one of the lucky people to find a spot t o sit indoors. It was really cold that day, and sitting in their outdoor section was not an option. This opportunity was our first experience, but finding an open parking space would be considered a miracle. We had to park a block away then walk. Now about the food; it tasted pretty good for the price. We have definitely had better tasting Mexican food, but you're going to definitely pay more. . They provide a salsa section for your chips if you purchas them, but the tiny plastic cups are truly challenging trying to dip your chip. Wie were disappointed though, when we ordered our food, they charge for chips. "What", we said under our breath." Ugh, we are used to and are willing to drive distances, expecting chips and salsa as an appetizer while we socialize wating for food. That extra charge makes the overall price considerably higher. So... if you are used to having and expecting FREE CHIPS and salsa while having conversations with friends and each other, this may not be the place to come. On a scale of 1-5 rating I give it a "3.7" (Not Bad) for a Mexican restaurant. It was rounded to 4 with the limited rating choice. Seats are a little uncomfortable, hard to hear with all the noise, but again, we get what we pay for. For the money saving price, without chips, it a good place to come.
We have been coming to El Farolito for years, and it is easily one of our favorite spots in Old Town Placentia. The restaurant sits right in a neighborhood and has that classic feel of an old house. We love coming here in person, but we also order takeout quite often because the quality is always so consistent. On our most recent visit, we finally got to sit in the new expansion area. It’s a great space and it adds so much more seating, which was definitely needed. The only downside is that it gets very loud in that room. The ceilings are extremely high, and the sound just bounces around. It seems like adding some insulation or sound-absorbing material up in the rafters would go a long way in making it a bit easier to have a conversation. The menus are also new, so it’s worth noting that prices seem to have gone up a bit with the changes. However, the food was just as delicious as always. One of us ordered the menudo, which they only serve on Saturdays and Sundays. It is great that they offer it in small, medium, and large sizes so you can pick exactly how much you want. Another person at the table had the breakfast burrito. It was a bit on the small side and felt like something you might roll up at home, so having it come with a side of rice and beans would have made it feel like a more complete meal. I went with the Mama’s Plate, which is a two-item combo. I chose a cheese enchilada and a crispy chicken taco. Everything tasted great, though the enchilada must have been cooked a little too quickly since the cheese wasn't quite melted all the way through in the middle. The service is always wonderful, whether you are sitting down for a meal or just picking up an order. We were also able to get our holiday pork tamales ordered this year. They are $40 a dozen right now, and you really have to call them early because they sell out every single year. If you haven't been to this local place yet, you should definitely check this family run place out.
Wow!! We dined at a great place. The chips and salsa were great. Thick chips, which I prefer, complemented the salsa. Beware - the nacho appetizer was very filling. And very good. The carnitas were delicious. The carnitas were sided with rice, beans and tortillas. After the nachos, we could not eat the Chicken and cheese enchiladas with red and green sauce. Eduardo and Joel provided great service.
So, many years ago, may be 20 or 25 years ago, with a group of coworkers from our office in Anaheim, we ventured a bit of longer travel distance for lunch, during work week lunch hour (fast, 45 minute in&out) and went to this authentic Mexican heritage place El Farolito. It was really a different, delicious fantastic, original spices and taste experience. Here we are, last week, no my grown up kids taking us to the same place. First, it was a fantastic family dinner adventure. Thank you El Farolito. But🫠, you know, you can do much much better. Why i gave 3 star for food? The people, are warm authentic, fast and caring, love what they do, great. The place is authentic, original, dow to earth, family kitchen table, the way it is suppose to be, great. But you really can go with time and enhance and improve your menue, what haven't you😪 Make it a home made short menu, Co trol the portion, a full full plate of rice and beans, extra, why, prove the quality of ingredients. I know family's come there to have dinner at reasonable price and not go out hungry. But a n authentic nowadays chef can do much better. Look give folks unlimited portion of rice when they order a meal, but don't bring an enchiladas where the enchiladas are list between the sides. Make the Nachos, the wonderful Nachoes with better arrangement and ingredients, the tomatoes, the cilantro, the aroma or cumin, the meat, the greens enhancing the appetizing appearance. Not a plump of things thrown together and put out😭 Mexican cuisines have so much, so much amazing variety and colors and taste it has to offer, please do that, reorest our deep and beautiful culture of thousands of years heritage come out, and feel good about it. Challenge yourself. Use your cultural imagination and creativity, from almost half a century of success to the next level. All the best, thank you El Farolito👏🙏

Fast friendly service. Plenty of parking in the back. chips and salsa were delicious. The food was fresh and delicious.
Food was okay at best unfortunately if you're having a birthday celebration they charge you for a cake cutting fee of 12 dollars but they don't cut it. That said make sure you see the menu. Definitely won't be celebrating nomore birthdays here.

I really wanted to love this restaurant. 50 years of family owned recipes in a true hole in the wall gem. The first red flag was the salsa....red canned tomato sauce with a few diced tomatoes. No seasoning, which was the theme of the meal. If you love spaghetti made with ketchup and weiners, you would have loved this meal. Bland beans, bland rice, even bland carnitas. So disappointing. The only reason I gave it a 2 is because the ground beef taco actually had flavor, and the beer was perfectly chilled.
Shame on the management I'm a senior that was having a horrible experience while eating my chile relleno. This plastic strip was stuck in my throat and had to pull it with my fingers in order to get it out. When I call they were too busy to take my cal. Finally they told me to go to the restaurant . I was very disappointed with the way they handle the issue. What a poor way to dismiss a loyal and long standing customer.
