Opinions de Yama Izakaya & Sushi Plano
Everything was great. I wish I was able to try more. The hamachi and tuna were my favorite. Everything came out really fast. My husband was impressed by the quality. He loved the yellowtail collar and shishito peppers. So glad we got to go here before the winter storm came into town.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Yama Izakaya & Sushi was an absolutely fantastic dining experience from beginning to end. The food was incredibly fresh, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. Every dish tasted carefully prepared and thoughtfully crafted. The sushi was especially impressive — fresh fish, perfectly seasoned rice, and creative rolls that were both delicious and visually stunning. You can truly taste the quality in every bite. The service was just as outstanding as the food. The staff was welcoming, attentive, and very knowledgeable about the menu. They were happy to offer recommendations and made sure everything was perfect throughout the meal. The timing of the dishes was great, and we never felt rushed. The atmosphere adds so much to the experience. It has a modern yet cozy vibe, making it perfect for both a relaxed dinner and a special occasion. The ambiance feels authentic and inviting, creating a comfortable space where you can truly enjoy your meal. Overall, Yama Izakaya & Sushi exceeded expectations in every way — food, service, and atmosphere. If you’re looking for high-quality sushi and a memorable dining experience, this is definitely the place to go. Highly recommended and absolutely five stars!
First time visiting this restaurant and we weren't disappointed. Food was delicious and service was excellent. Our waiter was Stephen, who was very friendly, efficient, and made sure we got everything we wanted on time. Price was reasonable for the quality of food, and we definitely will be returning in the future. Recommend giving it a try.
This sushi spot is incredible! The rolls were fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared — truly a treat for sushi lovers. The vibes were amazing, with a relaxed yet lively atmosphere that makes dining here a great experience. Service was friendly and attentive, and I also love that they stay open late. Definitely a 5‑star sushi restaurant I’ll be coming back to again and again!
Overall great place. Melanie served us, and she gave exceptional customer service…on par with a five star dining experience. Food was authentic and flavorful. The place was quite busy as it is a popular spot, but that didn’t really detract from the experience as they seem well equipped to handle it. If you prefer a more quiet experience, I’d recommend not coming during peak hours.
Yama Izakaya & Sushi in Plano is a hidden gem! The service was excellent—especially the bartender, who was super welcoming and attentive. They serve Asahi on draft, and it’s hands down one of the best beers to pair with sushi—cold, crisp, and refreshing. I really enjoyed the appetizer skewers—grilled to perfection with amazing flavor. And if you love wasabi, don’t miss the Tear Drop sushi. It’s bold, unique, and totally worth it. Great food, great service, and awesome vibes. I’ll definitely be coming back!
Chill spot, with hole in the wall vibes. Pretty lively for a Tuesday night at 10pm. Our waitress (I think her name was Melinda) was super attentive, nice, and overall helped make the experience great, she even suggested a roll that ended up being my fav, it’s the only roll wrapped in cucumber instead of rice! The sushi tasted very fresh, and delicious. I highly suggest you try the poppers, as an appetizer!! Will def be a returning customer!
Everything was delicious and reasonably priced! Our favorites were the 5 Rainbow Cucumber Roll and Shishito Peppers. The Octopus Wasabi doesn’t look appetizing or great in photos but tasted amazing. Everything was beautifully plated, the restaurant was lively for a Tuesday night, and our server was exceptionally attentive. We’ll definitely be back!
Yama in Frisco delivers a genuinely authentic Japanese Izakaya experience. The staff is consistently friendly and exceptionally hard-working. The extensive menu boasts a wide array of traditional Japanese dishes, with the Kushi (Japanese BBQ) standing out as a must-try highlight. Highly recommended for a taste of true Japanese cuisine."
This restaurant is an excellent choice for a delightful dinner or a cozy night out with a loved one. While I'm not a connoisseur of alcoholic beverages due to my body's limited tolerance, I thoroughly enjoyed the refreshing Peach Jelly Sake. If you have a sweet tongue like me. Takoyaki was absolutely delicious, similar to many other Japanese restaurants. Chicken Karaage was decent, though perhaps a tad ordinary. I'm eager to explore the spicy flavor on my next visit. The sushi presentation was visually stunning. If you're a fan of shrimp, I urge you to indulge in the delectable Sweet Shrimp. Even during our late-night visit around 9 PM, the restaurant was crowded. Be prepared for slight delays in service due to the high demand. I look forward to returning to this place in the near future
Whenever I’m in Texas and craving Japanese food, I always visit this place. The restaurant has a lively atmosphere, and the staff are friendly. I highly recommend the yakitori and agedashi tofu, which offer a taste just like back in Japan. Additionally, they have a happy hour where beers are priced attractively.
I didn’t come here for the restroom. Bro the Sushi here is top shelf amazing levels of fresh. Portions are huge, the quality of the staff and presentation of dishes is art. I’m here on a Saturday evening, they’re showing UFC on the screen and there are families and couples here. The kitchen is wide open you can see them preparing meals right in front of everyone. I’d eat here every day but then it would get old. All Stars ⭐️
Been coming here for years, foods always delicious, wait staff is always kind, timely and suggestive. My go to late nights spot. Atmosphere has traditional Japanese vibes. Not even a sushi fan, but I eat sushi here. The bar side is dimly lit and the music is better on the bar side. All together, love this place.
Food is ok. A smell from a kitchen is strong - we need to wash our clothes. Asian clients came after us, ordered similar food after us got their food (3 from 3 dishes) much faster before we got our 1st roll.
Ambiance: There’s tons of seating in the restaurant: sushi bar seating, booths, and large party tables. The restaurant stays open very late, and the service is great. Alaskan Roll: A classic roll that’s perfect for salmon lovers. The price is standard for sushi in the area, and the portion size is generous. The roll was very fresh with great flavor. Eel Roll: This roll was good but definitely on the smaller side. However, it was still fresh, and the sauce was tasty. Chirashi: This dish was just okay. I’d recommend sticking to the rolls instead of the bowl. It came with one piece of each type of fish, almost like a sampler with a lot of rice.
Food and service were good. The space was nicely decorated to feel authentic. Not sure if it's japanese owned or not but one thing I don't get is why sushi izakaya is such a thing. I always feel that the main is sushi so why not just be a sushi restaurant? Izakaya in japan are much more reasonable on price. Still, if you like japanese food this establishment is decent. Probably wont go back but still enjoyed the experience. I do think this place would be great for a large party. The private room they have is proper.
We have been coming to this location for a while. Lately the food quality and quantify have been inconsistent. For example, some raw fish hand rolls came out with very different preparation and presentation from recent visits. Some hot plate portions shrank. I am guessing it may have to do with line cooks not properly trained. Some food took forever to come out, had to be reminded (30 minutes+), some never showed. I like the concept of opening till 2AM and the expansive menu offerings. Hoping the ownership can focus on consistent food quality and service so I can give 5 stars again.
My husband has been talking about their poppers for years. We finally made it in, and he was right. The poppers are delicious. The sushi, however, was a little lackluster. It definitely didn't seem as fresh as it could've been. The avocado, for instance - you can see that it's already mushy and browning. The restrooms had some great features, but I unfortunately didn't get to enjoy them due to the foul smell and dirty conditions. We arrived just after they opened for dinner service, so I can't really justify the condition of the bathrooms by saying customers had trashed it all afternoon. Everything should've been fresh and clean right after opening. The poppers were fantastic, but I don't think we will be back. My husband agreed, it was a little disappointing.
It makes me sad that I have to right this review after have gone to this location many times. I have noticed the past 2 times I’ve gone the food quality hasn’t been that good as to prior experiences. I thought I’d give it one more try because maybe the cooks were rushed the day I went or something along those lines that could have affected the quality of the food. Unfortunately I was disappointed again and I won’t go back to have sushi. If you’re looking for a bar vibe, sitting at the bar in the second room is cool, the bartender plays good music.
This place was very expensive with not many options. They say they cater more to sushi, but for the crazy price of their sushi you could easily go to an all you can eat place instead. My husband ordered the tonkotsu ramen and it tasted TERRIBLE, I can’t even describe the bizarre, super earthy flavor. Absolutely do not get it. I went with a simple California roll, which was thankfully okay, but overall this place was a huge disappointment. I tried to let the waitress know about the soup and she didn’t seem to care or offer to take it back, only saying they don’t specialize in soup.
You ever lost your appetite because something just disgusting or annoying happened to you so you don’t even want to eat your food anymore no matter how hungry/much you were craving that food?? Well, that’s exactly what happened to my family and me at this Yama location. Long story short, DO NOT GO HERE because the service is absolutely absurd!!!! If you do go here, you better double AND triple check your receipt because they will charge you for items you did NOT eat!!!! Right off the bat, service was horrible. Throughout the night, the waitress was rude and lacked proper work ethic, but I blew it off because I just wanted to eat my sashimi and call it a day. But when I saw my receipt included multiple items on there that we did not eat, and it was wayyyy more than it was suppose to be….that was the cherry on top. The only reason why we did not leave this Yama location and go to the Legacy location is because by the time we would’ve gotten to the other spot, it would’ve been too late to dine in. But guess what, after we paid, we made a to-go order right when we got into our car to pick up at the Legacy location because this one didn’t even have the items we wanted - only Legacy offered the extended menu like the Chinese Delight selections. So if you want that, do NOT go here! Save your time and go to Yama on Legacy. You’ll get better food, more options, and great service. I hope the manager and waitress read this review because I surely told them they need to revisit their customer guidelines. I wish I could’ve recorded the conversation the waitress were having with my family and me. Straight up RUDE. I also informed the other staff at the Legacy location so the owners can have a team huddle and see where areas of improvement may occur because having a franchise with one location being better than the other seems to be the trend nowadays. I just hope this Yama will do better AND be better. They’re lucky their sashimi was good because that’s why they’re getting 2 stars instead of 1. If it wasn’t good, I would’ve gave them 1 star
I've never been actually angry or ever disrespected enough to leave a bad review. But this place is not worth anyone's time or money with so many other restaurants around. Service wise, our server was an older asian lady with slim rectangular glasses. We ordered some skewers. When they arrived one of them were wrong. We politely told the workers that we didn't order the scallop skewer, we ordered the steak. Instead of just fixing it, the woman proceeded to look for the paper that we marked our order on. She then handed us someone else's paper rudely in a condescending manner telling us thats what we ordered. After we told her thats not our paper, she showed a digital screen which proved nothing. We had to repeatedly tell her that we did not want to order a scallop skewer but instead a steak. She told us that she'll go find our paper. And proceeded to go about her business for another 10 minutes. When we checked in again with her on the status of finding our paper, thats when she asked if we want a replacement. If that was an option the entire time, I don't understand why they had to be absolutely rude and condescending towards us when they can't even find our paper. It's literally one skewer. Regardless of the atrocious service, the food is pretty bad. The only highlight was the chicken and pork belly skewers. The ramen was bad considering theres much better places nearby to get ramen from. The chashu was basically boiled pork. The egg was not jammy, it was just a straight up boiled egg. As for the katsudon. This was the first time I ever had such a bad katsu. Over all it was bland, the meat was very dry, and it was super bready, but not even crispy. I would never go back to this place and I would suggest to anyone who reads this to steer clear.
Tried to eat here on Friday evening. Was a horrible experience they make you join a waiting list then go out of order on the waiting list. Then once finally seated the table was unclean, sticky, and smelt like cigarettes. I can understand a busy evening and having to wait but not going in order of who's waiting is unfair and then to get a table that wasn't clean in unacceptable.
